‘Piranha’ Swim Over to Horror In Your House
Overshadowing all other releases is Alexandra Aja’s killer fish film, Piranha 3D. Nothing else this week even comes close or worthy of your hard-earned dollars. Pick up the movie, grab a date, skip the popcorn and opt for a box of Goldfish brand snack crackers, relive the gore and fun from the comfort of home. That’s my plan anyway.

A college party is the stage for bloodshed and murder on HALLOWEEN NIGHT as a mistreated student exacts his revenge on those who wronged him. Using the effigy of a living scarecrow, his Frankenstein-like creation carries out his heinous plans. One female student, Trix, is the only thing that stands between him and the bloodiest massacre to ever take place on the night of All Hallow’s Eve!
LEGION: THE FINAL EXORCISM – MTI Home Video
Michael San Chica is an ex-priest. He is also an investigator documenting true events of demonic possession. When Michael comes to the rescue of the newly possessed Tatiana McMurter, daughter of a Baptist minister, he discovers that he has encountered this demon before, a demon he vowed to track down and send back to hell. Because this time it’s not business, it’s personal.
MICAH SAYS: This film contains the greatness that is “Rowdy” Roddy Piper. No word on whether “The Pipe” forces a demon to try on a pair of sunglasses, which, coincidentally, would be the only way I would fork over 20 bucks to see this film.
PIRANHA 3D (3D/Blu-ray/DVD) – Sony
Jaws… lots and lots of jaws. From acclaimed director Alexandre Aja (The Hills Have Eyes) comes the new action thriller PIRANHA 3D, in the latest eye-popping 3D technology. Every year the population of sleepy Lake Victoria explodes from 5,000 to 50,000 for Spring Break, a riot of sun and drunken fun. But this year, there’s something more to worry about than hangovers and complaints from local old timers; A new type of terror is about to be cut loose on Lake Victoria. After a sudden underwater tremor sets free scores of the prehistoric man-eating fish, an unlikely group of strangers must band together to stop themselves from becoming fish food for the area’s new razor-toothed residents. But our heroine (Elisabeth Shue) is seriously outnumbered, and with only one chance to save the lake and her family from totally being devoured, she must risk everything to destroy the aquatic carnivores herself.
MICAH SAYS: Easily my personal favorite guilty pleasure of the 2010 movie year. It’s got blood, boobs, and cameos – three things most horror fans can get behind. There really isn’t anything to dislike about this film (okay, maybe the post convert 3D). Piranha 3D delivered exactly what it promised – a bloody fun ride!
PSYCHOSIS – Entertainment One
After suffering a mental breakdown, Susan (Charisma Carpenter), a horror novelist, retreats to the countryside to recover. Things take a nightmarish turn when she begins having horrifying visions of a massacre that happened 15 years ago.
Scream Factory brought Frank LaLoggia’s 1988 Halloween movie Lady in White to Blu-ray several years back, and now Vinegar Syndrome gives the film a 4K Ultra HD upgrade.

1962. Nine-year-old Frankie Scarlatti enjoys a homespun childhood in a rustic Western New York town. The entire community gets into the spirit of Halloween, but then two bullies prank Frankie by locking him in his school cloakroom, leaving him trapped for the night. Alone and afraid, his slumber is interrupted when the ghost of a little girl appears, and Frankie witnesses the specter of her murder by an unseen assailant. Later, while recovering at home, the girl’s ghost appears to him again. With help from his older brother, Frankie begins investigating the circumstances of her death. He soon discovers that her murder was one of several unsolved crimes connected to a local child-killer. As the town’s bucolic veneer fades and long-buried secrets and tensions bubble to the surface, all of the clues to the mystery seem to point towards a huge mansion inhabited by a reclusive woman known as “The Lady in White.”
