‘Twilight’ Revisited in ‘Red Riding Hood’ Teaser Trailer, Poster Debut

Published

I’ve always been a fan of Catherine Hardwicke. I loved Thirteen, Lords of Dogtown, and I even thought Twilight was passable. But when she announced she’d be tackling Red Riding Hood for Warner Bros. Pictures, I expected her to shy away from the Twilight-esque drama and show us what she can do without Summit Entertainment producers barking in her ear. Apple.com premiered the trailer for the David Leslie Johnson (Orphan) penned story that looks like nothing more than Twilight with the lead love interest being a werewolf. Wait, that’s kind of the plot of New Moon, right? Anyways, the footage looks great, and I love Amanda Seyfried, Shiloh Fernandez and Gary Oldman, so maybe there’s something to this modern day “Little Red Riding Hood” tale arriving in theaters March 11? Check out the footage, poster premiere and synopsis inside. Tell us what YOU think.
In “Red Riding Hood,” Seyfried plays Valerie, a beautiful young woman torn between two men. She is in love with a brooding outsider, Peter (Shiloh Fernandez), but her parents have arranged for her to marry the wealthy Henry (Max Irons). Unwilling to lose each other, Valerie and Peter are planning to run away together when they learn that Valerie’s older sister has been killed by the werewolf that prowls the dark forest surrounding their village. For years, the people have maintained an uneasy truce with the beast, offering the creature a monthly animal sacrifice. But under a blood red moon, the wolf has upped the stakes by taking a human life. Hungry for revenge, the people call on famed werewolf hunter, Father Solomon (Gary Oldman), to help them kill the wolf. But Solomon’s arrival brings unintended consequences as he warns that the wolf, who takes human form by day, could be any one of them. As the death toll rises with each moon, Valerie begins to suspect that the werewolf could be someone she loves. As panic grips the town, Valerie discovers that she has a unique connection to the beast–one that inexorably draws them together, making her both suspect…and bait.

Rubberhead trailer

Few in the industry are as candid as Emmy-winning artist Steve Johnson (Fright Night, Poltergeist II, A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master) and that rare honesty is on full display in the first trailer for documentary Rubberhead: The Life & Monsters of Steve Johnson.

The doc is headed to the Fantasia Film Festival for its world premiere on July 23.

In Rubberhead, “Known for his intense work ethic, perfectionism, and obsession with breaking new ground, Steve Johnson created iconic creatures and effects for some of the most beloved horror and sci-fi movies in cinema history. RUBBERHEAD is a humorous and heartfelt portrait of the life and times of one of Hollywood’s most prolific monster makers, as well as a historical journey through the golden age of special effects makeup.”

As the trailer previews, Johnson shares outrageous anecdotes about his freewheeling adventures in Hollywood, chronicling his meteoric rise and subsequent fall. The doc also highlights cinema’s most groundbreaking effects and techniques, along with Johnson’s deeply personal account of self-sabotage, divorce, and serious struggles with addiction.

Linnea Quigley, John Landis, Tom Holland, and Oscar-winner Bill Corso also contribute as talking heads in this illuminating doc. Director Nick Taylor co-writes with Joseph Krings.
