Monster-sized Update on Tim Burton’s ‘Monsterpocalypse’
It was announced last month that John August was in negotiations with DreamWorks to write the studio’s feature film adaptation of Monsterpocalypse, a strategy game played with collectible miniature figures. While Tim Burton was originally announced to be “in talks”, at the time DreamWorks had yet to lock down a deal. A bunch of updates have hit the web, including details on what type of film it will be, how big the monsters will stand and if it’ll join the ranks of this decades biggest 3-D films. Details inside. The game involves game maps on which all manner of Japanese-inspired monsters, aliens, robots and insects do battle while laying waste to the cityscape, which changes for each game.

“-John August is writing the screenplay right now, consulting with the game’s creator Matt Wilson (who is also a co-producer)
-Tim Burton is developing the project to direct
-Being developed as a 3D movie
-It could hit theaters by the end of 2012
-Will not feature other properties like Voltron
-The plot involves giant monsters who attack earth. After the humans fight back, the monsters retreat, but it is quickly discovered that they didn’t leave, but instead burrowed underground and are sending some sort of signal into space. The humans prepare for a possible future attach and developed giant robots that will fight the monsters if and when they return.
-Most of the movie is going to be during that battle between the giant robots and the giant monsters.
-Tim Burton is developing the look for the monsters with Ken Ralston, four time Academy Award winner who has been involved with the visual effects on films such as Forrest Gump, Death Becomes Her, Back to the Future series, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Cocoon, Dragonslayer, Star Wars trilogy
-The monsters and robots are each the size of a very tall building.
-The robots are controlled by a crew inside of each one of these robots, and we’ll be seeing the battles from the inside of the bridge and the outside”

Michelle Williams and Daisy Edgar Jones star in the upcoming thriller A Place in Hell from writer-director Chloe Domont (Fair Play), and NEON had originally set the film for theatrical release on December 25, 2026. But we’ve learned that it’s been bumped to next year.
NEON will now release A Place in Hell in theaters on April 23, 2027.

A cutthroat criminal defense attorney (Williams), on the verge of making partner, sees her ambitions upended when a younger lawyer (Edgar-Jones) is brought in to replace her. As rivalry escalates into a battle for control, the two women push one another to dangerous extremes.
Andrew Scott, Danny Huston, Arturo Castro, Rob Yang, Kyle Mooney, Dani Oliveros, and Esther McGregor round out the ensemble cast of A Place in Hell.

A Place in Hell moving out of the Christmas Day 2026 release date is a great help to the Robert Eggers-directed Werwulf, which will now own the day without any genre competition.
