Earlier this morning Bloody Disgusting's Johnne Marrone took a trip to the set of Jim Mickle's (Mulberry Street) now filming Stake Land, a new vampire pic that looks quite extraordinary. During the visit, Marrone had a chance to chat with star Danielle Harris who revealed to BD that both Mos Def and Bill Moseley have joined the voice cast of Zeb de Soto's Night of the Living Dead: Origins 3D. Moseley will be playing Johnny, the same role he took on in Tom Savini's 1990 remake of Night of the Living Dead. Joseph Pilato, Mike Diskint and Helen Cooper also star. On the story front, De Soto, who wrote the script with David R. Schwartz, wants to update the tale partially by bringing out the characters’ backstories and make what he called “an American-style anime.” ...Read More

First TV Spot for 'The Descent: Part 2'
Posted November 20, 2009 @ 1:38

TV Spots have begun to air in the UK for Pathe's The Descent: Part 2, the highly anticipated sequel to Neill Marshall's chiller that was helmed by Jon Harris. While it arrives in the UK on December 4th, there are still no plans by Lionsgate to get it in theaters here in the States. The sequel will continue the story of Sarah, who as the only survivor of an all-female caving expedition gone horrifically wrong, suffers severe psychological trauma. Unable to speak, she accompanies a rescue team back to the cave, but events once again take a sinister turn. ...Read More

'Underworld 4' Being Penned by 'Shield' Writer
Posted November 20, 2009 @ 12:46

"The Shield" writer John Hlavin has been hired to pen the fourth installment in Screen Gems/Lakeshore's Underworld franchise, writes the Heat Vision Blog. Len Wiseman, who directed the first two films in the vampire-vs.-werewolf saga, is producing with Gary Lucchesi, Tom Rosenberg and Richard Wright of Lakeshore. Kate Beckinsale, who starred in the first two movies, has not cut a deal to return to the series (which we've confirmed is absolutely untrue); the third pic, a prequel, starred Rhona Mitra, who also has no deal. The fourth film does not have a director attached. Hlavin said the plot is under wraps, "but I can tell you it's not a prequel." He added, "It will satisfy old fans and excite new audiences, meaning that we don't want to redo the first three movies, so steps are being taken to honor what fans have loved but at the same time introduce fresh elements." The horror-action series has been successful for Screen Gems and Lakeshore, scaring up nearly $300 million worldwide. The sequel is set to hit theaters January 21, 2011 in 3-D.

As many of you know I thought Twilight was passable, not good, not bad, but passable. Somewhere along the way to releasing The Twilight Saga: New Moon, they lost even me. Missing multiple screening opportunities, I sent BD's own Chris Eggertsen, who appears to have the same feelings I had for the franchise. "...the producers went with Weitz, the safe choice, and now they have a major dud on their hands. I can only hope that young fans of the series will stay home this time. But I’m not naïve. It’ll be a blockbuster, damn it." Click the title above to read his in depth review and check back here at midnight to post your own review and tell all of BD what YOU thought.

Two New Hi-Res Stills from 'Daybreakers'
Posted November 19, 2009 @ 1:24

Lionsgate has really started to push Peter and Michael Spierig's futuristic vamp film Daybreakers, which features Ethan Hawke, Sam Neill, Willem Dafoe, Claudia Karvan, Michael Dorman and Vince Colosimo. We caught the bloody pic at the TIFF this past September (read the review) and are happy to report that it's quite a good time. You'll be able to catch it on January 8th. Until then, beyond the break you can dig on two brand spanking new stills that feature vamp Edward Dalton, a researcher in the year 2019, in which an unknown plague has transformed the world's population into vampires. As the human population nears extinction, vampires must capture and farm every remaining human, or find a blood substitute before time runs out. However, a covert group of vampires makes a remarkable discovery, one which has the power to save the human race. ...Read More

The original property, penned by Scott O. Brown and illustrated by Ferran Xalabarder, was published in 2007 by Platinum. Platinum is developing Cowboys & Aliens, Unique, The Witchblade and Atlantis Rising. Larry Fessenden Exits 'The Orphanage' Remake
Posted November 19, 2009 @ 1:54

Sad news from the set of Dark Sky Films' Stake Land where producer-turned-actor/director Larry Fessenden was on hand to promote the film. Back in August it was revealed that Fessenden would be helming a remake of The Orphanage for New Line Cinema and Guillermo del Toro. It appears the dream is dead. "THE ORPHANAGE was two years of waiting," Fessenden tells AITH. "Working on the script with Guillermo was a very exciting experience, but then I got into a casting miasma and that's where the thing is; I think they're gonna do it another way, actually. So I think I'm out of it. Hopefully they'll still use my script, but I'm not sure I'm directing it anymore. That's Hollywood for ya." Click the link for more. ...Read More

The film will be a re-imagining of Robert Louis Stevenson's "The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde," which will be contemporized and titled "Jekyll and Hyde." Whitaker plays Dr Jekyll, a rich doctor of great generosity who lives on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Peter Utterson, Dr Jekyll's lawyer and friend, investigates the mystery of who Mr Hyde is and why he is the sole beneficiary of Jekyll's will.
