Incredibly Lame One Sheet Debut for 'Vapires Suck' Posted 48 Minutes ago We got our hands on the official one sheet for 20th Century Fox's Vampires Suck, their latest lame-ass spoof movie arriving in theaters August 18. The real laughs come in knowing that this movie even got made. Vampires Suck is a comedy about contemporary teen angst and romance movies. Becca, an anxious, non-vampire teen, is torn between two boys. Before she can choose, Becca must get around her controlling father, who embarrasses Becca by treating her like a child. Meanwhile, Becca’s friends contend with their own romantic issues – all of which collide at the prom. Written and to be directed by Heckerling, Vamps tells the modern day tale of two young beautiful female vampires living the good nightlife in New York until love enters the picture and each has to make a choice that will jeopardize her immortality. Filming will begin next week in Detroit, Michigan. Johnston joins Alicia Silverstone and Krysten Ritter, already on board as two young vampires and Sigourney Weaver, who plays the role of Cisserus, a bloodthirsty "stem" vampire who has created a dynasty. Comedian Richard Lewis was announced last night. Johnston plays Mrs. Van Helsing, a posh British woman who is suspicious of her son's new love interest Stacey (Ritter). Posted 5 Hours 44 Minutes ago While Len Wiseman isn't the worst A-list director around, I've yet to see something of his that I love. This is the main reason I'm cringing at the idea of the Underworld/Live Free or Die Hard director getting behind the camera for Total Recall, Columbia Pictures' remake of the 1990 Arnold Schwarzenegger sci-fi action movie directed by Paul Verhoeven. The studio and producer Neal Moritz are aiming for a contemporized adaptation of the movie, which was based on Philip K. Dick story, "We Can Remember It for You Wholesale." It followed a man haunted by a recurring dream of journeying to Mars who buys a literal dream vacation from a company called Rekall Inc., which sells implanted memories. The man comes to believe he is a secret agent and ends up on a Martian colony, where he fights to overthrow a despotic ruler controlling the production of air. The movie explored one of Dick's favorite topics, reality vs. delusion, as audiences never knew whether or not the story was a dream. "When I met first met James Watkins, our director, he told me about a quote of Stanley Kubrick's, which was that all films about the afterlife or ghosts are innately consoling," Radcliffe tells the LA Times. "I think there's something about that that is very true to our story. While it is a horror story and it is very frightening, it's also about loss and grief. I read it on a plane, and I don't know what the people around me must have thought. I kept jumping and gasping..." Click here for the full interview. Posted 6 Hours 19 Minutes ago As always, it was tough to get into Hall H to see all that glorious new footage at this year's comic con, but there was one film we wouldn't have missed for anything. Drive Angry is Patrick Lussier and Todd Farmer's followup to My Bloody Valentine, and it looks to be one of the most kick-ass 3D films yet. Nic Cage, Amber Heard, the great William Fichtner, and TOM ATKINS (!), amongst many others, look to spend the bulk of the film's running time driving, shooting, driving AND shooting, or simply looking badass, all in glorious REAL 3D. No post-converted bullshit here, this is the real deal, and I think when people start seeing it and other real 3D films that are coming (Resident Evil 4, Saw 7, etc), folks will start to really see the difference and stop paying a premium for fake ones like Last Airbender. But even if it was in 2D, this movie looks to be a grand old time, and our own BC jumped at the chance to talk to Lussier about the cast, the cars, and the cameras. Posted 7 Hours 9 Minutes ago Quarantine 2: Terminal wrapped production last week in the blazing Atlanta summer heat. Up until now, the production has been extremely secretive, careful to keep the plot points under wraps while director John Pogue focused on getting his highly anticipated sequel in the can. The first Quarantine was almost an exact remake of the Spanish film REC, but the sequel will share little with REC 2. Posted 7 Hours 9 Minutes ago This past week we caught up with writer-director-actor-producer Eli Roth to talk about The Last Exorcism, his horror flick that began a slew of special screenings at the San Diego Comic-Con (more on this soon). While a full report is forthcoming, we did have a chance to briefly talk to Roth about Hostel: Part 3, and his highly anticipated return to the director's chair. In a new "hype piece" over at the Hollywood Reporter, they reveal that plans are still underway for remakes of Hellraiser and Children of the Corn, along with sequels to Scary Movie and Halloween. You can read about the Weinstein Company's plans here, although you have to think they have a lot riding on Piranha 3D this August, not to mention the major release plans for Scream IV in April. Could this be the resurrection of Bob and Harvey, along with a handful of horror franchises? I'm rooting for 'em, only if they make something good. Add a Comment (27) Related Link: Hollywood Reporter Richard Lewis to Bring Some Bloody Laughs to 'Vamps' Posted July 29, 2010 @ 12:34 Dark comedian Richard Lewis (a hilarious regular on "Curb Your Enthusiasm") will add some male blood to the romantic horror comedy Vamps. Amy Heckerling (Clueless) has written and will direct the project, which stars Alicia Silverstone and Krysten Ritter as New York socialite vampires whose freewheeling lifestyles are tripped up when blood is pumped into their romantic lives. Sigourney Weaver also stars as the queen vamp who turned them into creatures of the night. Lewis will play a former student activist who works as an ACLU lawyer. Red Hour Films is producing with Lauren Versel of Lucky Monkey Pictures and Molly Hassell. Principal photography begins next month in Detroit. The film will be a big ticket item, shot in 3D. Cameron's presence helped win over the studio with pre-production beginning in the next few weeks, and shoot next summer. In the Lovecraft tale, a gruesome discovery made during a scientific expedition to the South Pole in the 1930s hints at the true origin of mankind having come from elder gods from another planet. Bad things happen when those life forms are awakened. The project is years in the works for del Toro and producers Susan Montford and Don Murphy (Splice, Natural Born Killers, Transformers), and it is easily the most ambitious project contemplated by the Pan's Labyrinth director. I love the idea of getting the audience involved in a film in unique and interesting ways. Paramount has chosen to get us involved in J.J. Abrams and Steven Spielberg's 80's alien-creature feature Super 8 with their bizarre Rocket Poppeteers campaign. You've read about all sorts of oddness from snail mail advertisements to on hand Comic-Con Popsicle trucks, now they're kicking it into high gear with an official website for the Rocket Poppeteers! Go register and see what you find. While Abrams hasn't even begun casting yet, they definitely know they want this in theaters by summer of 2011. Being adapted by Seth Grahame-Smith from his own novel revision of the Jane Austen classic, when Abraham Lincoln was nine years old, his mother died from an ailment called the "milk sickness." Only later did he learn that his mother's deadly affliction was actually the work of a local vampire, seeking to collect a debt owed by Lincoln's father. When Abe learned the truth, he vowed revenge and kept one passion hidden throughout his life: the brutal elimination of all vampires. That **grrr** pulled a bait and switch with "Lost", tricking foolish viewers into loving the finale by pulling on their emotional strings. He literally crapped all over the series, and the fans. As far as I'm concerned he's the Devil, and I want his evil Hollywood mitts as far away from my genre as humanly possible. Too bad for me the writer is said to have closed a deal to do rewrite work on 20th Century Fox's Alien prequel, which the studio hopes Ridley Scott will direct as his next assignment, reports Deadline. I can only imagine the ambiguous finale that will have (sigh). Here's the kicker, word has it that it might not end up even being an Alien film. More inside. It's pretty cool; check it out inside. And if you missed the news, Lionsgate has shifted the Kevin Greutert directed Saw 3D to October 29 in order to avoid battling Paranormal Activity 2, instead, it will go toe-to-toe with Wes Craven's post-converted 3-D horror My Soul to Take. In my feeble opinion, the star is one of the best around, and is much deserving of major roles. While I sit back and wait for his career to literally explode, Murphy will tackle a new mankind ending virus in The Retreat (he previously starred in Danny Boyle's 28 Days Later). Deadline reports that Murphy begins filming this British thriller in September on location in Wales. Murphy and Thandie Newton (Vanishing on 7th Street ) will play a husband and wife who rent a remote island cottage while trying to repair their marriage. One day they find a bio hazard-suited soldier washed up on the beach, who warns them that everybody on the mainland has been killed by an airborne virus. That’s when the psychological fun-and-games begin. Carl Tibbetts, an editor who's worked on Alien Vs Predator (oh boy), is the first-time writer/director. Posted July 28, 2010 @ 4:01 Moviehole talked to Drive Angry 3D/My Bloody Valentine 3D director Patrick Lussier this past weekend who discussed another of his upcoming projects, Condition Dead, suggesting they’re talking about Nathan Fillion (SLiTHER) for one of the roles in it. This would be Fillion's third time working with Lussier – they previously collaborated on Dracula 2000 and White Noise 2. Condition Dead was written by ex-CHUD/now JOBLO writer Dave Davis, and is produced by Clint Morris (from Moviehole) and Joel Soission (Pulse). The script fixes on an elite team of government-subsidized zombie-hunters who are mysteriously ambushed by a viscous new breed of zombie. Tyrese Gibson, initially onboard as a producer, is no longer involved. Add a Comment (8) Related Link: Moviehole.net Gris Grimly Updates 'Pinocchio', Big Names Working on Stop-Motion Adaptation! "This film is being produced by Guillermo Del Toro and The Jim Henson Company," he tells Bloody Disgusting. "I will be co-directing with a stop-motion veteran (who's name is yet to be announced) and Nick Cave is on board to compose the original score. MacKinnon and Saunders (Fantastic Mr. Fox, Corpse Bride, Mars Attacks!) are also involved in the puppet fabrication. There are interested voice talents that only add to how promising this project will be, but I cannot announce them yet."
