TIFF '10: New Image Gallery for 'Black Swan'
Posted 10 Hours 54 Minutes ago

Before arriving in theaters on December 1 from Fox Searchlight, Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan will premiere at both the TIFF and in Venice. Starring Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis, Vincent Cassel, Winona Ryder, Barbara Hershey, Sebastian Stan, Kristina Anapau, we were supplied with a revised one sheet along with a few stills from the flick that centers on a veteran ballerina (Portman) who finds herself locked in a competitive situation with a rival dancer, with the stakes and twists increasing as the dancers approach a big performance. But it's unclear whether the rival is a supernatural apparition or if the protagonist is simply having delusions. How dark the film will be is yet to be seen.

After watching the horrid, horrid Shock Labyrinth 3D, it's hard to get excited for Takashi Shimizu's (The Grudge) latest 3-D effort, Rabbit Horror 3D. Starring Mitsushima Hikari, Kagawa Teruyuki, Omori Nao, and Ogawa Tamaki Rabbit Horror 3D will be filmed using Panasonic’s dual-lens AG-3DA1 camera, and it will use Christian Doyle as the main cinematographer. The movie is inspired by Alice in Wonderland, as the story mainly focuses on a stuffed rabbit from an alternate world. Just to give an outline of the movie, it tells the story of Mitsushima’s brother, who is sent to an alternate world after receiving the rabbit. To retrieve her brother, Mitsushima’s character will unravel the secret behind the animal. The filming is expected to be finished on September 8, as director Shimizu is set to go the Venice Film Festival. He’ll be heading the jury of the event’s 3D competition, and he also plans to show some footage from this movie there. Rabbit Horror 3D will open in Japan in 2011.

TV: A Trio of 'The Walking Dead' Teasers!
Posted September 4, 2010 @ 10:24

Entitled "Rick's Gun," "Hospital Corridor" and "Darkness," inside you'll find the first three TV spots for AMC's The Walking Dead, all of which will begin to air this coming week. The Frank Darabont-directed pilot airs on Halloween night. It kicks off the initial 6-episode first season. "The Walking Dead" tells the story of the weeks and months that follow a pandemic zombie apocalypse. County Sheriff Rick Grimes travels with his family and a small group of survivors, constantly in search of a safe and secure home. But the constant pressure of fighting off death on a daily basis takes a heavy toll, sending many to the lowest depths of human cruelty. As Rick struggles to keep his family alive, he will discover that the overwhelming fear of the survivors can be far more dangerous than the mindless walkers roaming the earth.

BD Review: Another Look at 'Machete'
Posted September 4, 2010 @ 1:29

Those of you who need a second opinion before slashing your way to theaters this weekend can find David Harley's review of Machete beyond the break. While I enjoyed the film, he liked it quite a bit more. Check back here after you've seen the film and write your own reviews to tell all of Bloody Disgusting what you thought. We'll give your reviews a push on Twitter (per usual).

'The Wicker Tree' Teaser Trailer!
Posted September 3, 2010 @ 8:03

The official website is now hosting the teaser trailer for Robin Hardy's The Wicker Tree, the sequel to Wicker Man starring Christopher Lee, Joan Collins, Graham McTavish, Paul Wesley, Susie Amy, Morgan James, and Natalie Parnes. Young Christians Beth and Steve, a gospel singer and her cowboy boyfriend, leave Texas to preach door-to-door in Scotland . When, after initial abuse, they are welcomed with joy and elation to Tressock, the border fiefdom of Sir Lachlan Morrison, they assume their hosts simply want to hear more about Jesus. How innocent and wrong they are.

Although there are no actual details yet, the New York Post is reporting that Dimension Films will soon be asking fans of Piranha 3D to vote on what celebrity death they'd like to see in the fishy sequel. In the Alex Aja-directed killer piranha movie, Jerry O'Connell played a Joe Francis-like character who had his manhood chomped off and burped up by one of the critters. Suits at the Weinstein Company are expecting plenty of votes for the folks from "Jersey Shore" and the "Real Housewives," which equal about a dozen new ways to cheese-up the sequel. If you could choose a celebrity to meet their fate, who would you pick? Personally, I'd rather see an actor or actress I admire take on the role, but that's just me...

It was announced on Robert Kurtzman's Creature Corps website that they'll be handling the special effects work for Sony Stage 6's Hostel: part III, which has begun filming in Michgan. Directed by Scott Spiegel, the direct-to-disc sequel stars Kip Pardue, Brian Hallisay, Sarah Habel, John Hensley, Skyler Stone, Chris Coy, and Thomas Kretschmann. Penned by Michael Weiss, the story concerns a Vegas bachelor party that turns grisly when the groom (Hallisay) learns that his longtime best friend (Pardue) has targeted him for ritual murder.

Universal Pictures has released the second clip from John Erick and Drew Dowdle's Devil, which arrives in theaters September 17. The clip features a post "blackout" sequence where one of the trapped individuals reveals that she was apparently bitten. By whom you ask? While the main plot's being kept under wraps, Chris Messina plays the lead role of Bowden, a sobered-up homicide detective who is involved with a group of people trapped in an elevator -- when they begin to mysteriously die one by one. Billed as being "from the mind of M. Night Shyamalan", Devil is the first entry in the filmmaker's "Night Chronicles" trilogy.

Posted September 3, 2010 @ 11:38

As you all know, Wes Craven is out in Michigan shooting Scream IV, the latest installment in the slasher franchise arriving in theaters April 15. Bloody Disgusting music contributor Jonathan Barkan (and a few of his classmates) was lucky enough to spend an afternoon with the horror icon, where they talked about all sorts of things ranging from his style of horror vs modern horror to his 3-D conversion of My Soul t Take. The other day you saw a tiny little look at Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington in Lionsgate's Saw 3D, the Kevin Greutert-directed sequel arriving in theaters on October 29. Inside you'll now find a super-sized hi-res version. Linkin Park's experimental new album "A Thousand Suns" hits stores this September. In Saw 3D, as a deadly battle rages over Jigsaw’s brutal legacy, a group of Jigsaw survivors gathers to seek the support of self-help guru and fellow survivor Bobby Dagen, a man whose own dark secrets unleash a new wave of terror.

Jess Peacock of Crawlspace Online writes in with a new book review/spotlight. John Everson's "Siren" follows the protag Evan who is entranced by the alluring song of the beautiful naked woman he saw in the surf one lonely night. But this is no mere seductress. She is a siren, one of the legendary sea creatures who prey on unsuspecting men. And she has claimed Evan as her next lover. The book is in stores now.

When Dimension Films' Grindhouse was gearing up for release back in 2007, a contest was held asking fans to create their own faux grindhouse trailer. The result was Jason Eisener's Hobo With a Shotgun, which has since been transformed into a full-length feature. While Machete's feature-length version lacked a certain, I dunno, authenticity, this unrated trailer for Eisener's film already looks like it knocked one out of the park. The trailer features Rutger Hauer (Blade Runner, The Hitcher) as the ass-kickin' Hobo. He gives one helluva speech -- and then the blood begins to flow. Oh does it flow. Color me impressed and excited. What do you guys think?

BD Review: 'Machete' Could Achieve Cult Status
Posted September 3, 2010 @ 1:00

Now in theaters everywhere is Machete, the feature film version of Robert Rodriguez's faux trailer that he directed alongside Ethan Maniquis. How did the long-form version turn out? Ironically enough, it made a better short. "'Machete' shouldn't be a movie - the idea itself defies Hollywood logic – but maybe that's the charm it has to offer. Maybe there's a cult movie hiding within? Maybe with the right audience, the right drink, and the right friends 'Machete' would be more exciting?" Click the title for the full review. Check back this weekend to write your own review and tell all of Bloody Disgusting what YOU thought.

Revealed to be "a true-life serial killer story", the massive synopsis can be found inside, along with the trailer!

We don't usually report on "dream casting", but you have to think Guillermo del Toro has enough weight to throw around to get whatever the heck he wants. Collider is reporting that Del Toro's first choice casting for his At the Mountains of Madness adaptation is none other than Tom Cruise. They also report that Chris Pine's name has been thrown around to also star in the 3-D pic being produced by James Cameron. Universal Pictures is producing this monster H.P. Lovecraft adaptation that tells the story of geologist William Dyer, a professor from Miskatonic University. He writes to disclose hitherto unknown and closely kept secrets in the hope that he can deter a planned and much publicized scientific expedition to Antarctica. On a previous expedition there, a party of scholars from Miskatonic University, led by Dyer, discovered fantastic and horrific ruins and a dangerous secret beyond a range of mountains taller than the Himalayas. Tom Cruise is no stranger to horror as he's starred in Interview with the Vampire and War of the Worlds. Chris Pine starred in Carriers.

Liam Neeson (After-Life) is in negotiations to re-team with his A-Team director Joe Carnahan for the survival drama The Grey, an individual familiar with the project has told TheWrap. Carnahan co-wrote the screenplay with Ian Mackenzie Jeffers, who wrote the original short story that the script is based on. The story follows a team of pipeline workers who struggle to survive in the Alaskan wild after their plane crashes there. The men come under attack from a pack of vicious wolves who view the humans as intruders who must be killed. Neeson will play the team leader, who aches to reunite with the woman he loves. The project was originally announced with Bradley Cooper attached (another A-Team star) back in February. It sounds like one was replaced for another.

Universal Studios Orlando tapped Michael and Peter Spierig (Undead, Daybreakers) to direct a creepy commercial for this fall's forthcoming Halloween Horror Night. "The only thing to fear is fear itself," the commercial declares before blasting a vomit-inducing Ellen promo across the screen. The Spierigs are hard at work on the upcoming Dark Crystal sequel. You can check out the official website for ticketing information on both Hollywood and Orlando Horror Nights, which both kick off a week earlier than previous years!

Contrary to Fangoria's premature reports, the second season of AMC's The Walking Dead has yet to be greenlit. Aint it Cool News reached out to the actual source, pilot director/executive producer Frank Darabont, who quickly debunked the story. "Shooting in February? As tired as I am right now getting season one through post, I'd rather shoot myself," he tells the site. Watch for an OFFICIAL announcement when the deal is sealed. The six-episode debut season kicks off Halloween night with a special, hour and half pilot presentation. Read our four part set visit. The adaptation of Robert Kirkman's Image comic is set among a group of zombie survivors of an apocalypse who are led by a police officer, Rick Grimes, in search of a safe place to live.
