THE GOOD SISTERS: R Squared Films

Breanne Good Kindra Good are sisters with a secret life — practitioners of witchcraft, glamours, and black magic. Fiercely protective of their privacy, craft, and ancient bloodline, they become suspicious of their new neighbor Daniel who also leads a life shrouded in mystery. Unsure if he is unnaturally obsessed with them – or if they are only being paranoid — the Good Sisters will have to draw all their power about them as it becomes clear their ages-old battle of good versus evil, light versus dark, freedom versus oppression may be about to begin again. Which leaves the question … who is being Good, and who is not?

TEX SAYS: Indie horror buffs should totally dig this new flick starring their queen Debbie Rochon and April Monique Burril (Chainsaw Sally). Directed by Burril’s hubby and Chainsaw Sally visionary JimmyO

THE HOUSE OF THE DEVIL DVD, Blu-ray & VHS): Dark Sky Films

Sam is a pretty college sophomore, so desperate to earn some cash for a deposit on an apartment that she accepts a babysitting job even after she finds out there is no baby. Mr. and Mrs. Ulman are the older couple who lure Sam out to their creaky Victorian mansion deep in the woods, just in time for a total lunar eclipse. Megan is Sam’s best friend, who gives her a ride out to the house, and reluctantly leaves her there despite suspecting that something is amiss. Victor at first seems like just a creepy guy lurking around the house, but quickly makes it clear that Sam will end this night in a bloody fight for her life…

TEX SAYS: Although technically not my pick of the week (oh what cruel fate to release the same day as Zombieland), House of the Devil is still one of the best films I saw in 2009. I’ll only amend my pick of the week to this if you are buying the Amazon.com special limited edition DVD that comes with the VHS Promo copy that was made available earlier to film critics.

SHE-WOLF OF LONDON: Universal

In the tradition of Universal’s famed collection of monsters comes She-Wolf of London. Now the complete series featuring all 20 episodes is available for the first time on DVD. Beautiful American grad student Randi Wallace never suspected that traveling to England to study with handsome mythology professor Ian Matheson change her life forever. While conducting research on the misty and mysterious English moors, Randi is attacked and bitten by a werewolf. Now cursed to transform into a bloodthirsty werewolf during every full moon, the two must find a way to save her. Follow their adventures from London to L.A. as they search for a cure, battle supernatural forces and the romantic feelings they have for one another.

SPIRAL (Blu-Ray): Anchor Bay

Joel David Moore stars with Zachary Levi and Amber Tamblyn in the harrowing story of a shy and possibly disturbed telemarketer/painter, his arrogant longtime friend and boss, and the carefree new co-worker whose love may offer a portrait of normalcy. But in a life scarred by dark secrets, can the truth be the most horrifying pose of all?

TRIANGLE: First Look

When Jess sets sail on a yacht with a group of friends, she cannot shake the feeling that there is something wrong. Her suspicions are realized when the yacht hits a storm in the Bermuda Triangle and the group is forced to board a passing ocean liner to get to safety. The ship appears deserted, but Jess is convinced she’s been on board before. They soon realize they are not alone… Someone is intent on hunting them down, one by one.

THE WOLF MAN (Special Edition): Universal

he original horror classic that introduced one of the screen’s most infamous monsters! Lon Chaney, Jr. portrays Larry Talbot, who returns to his father’s castle in Wales and meets a beautiful woman. One fateful night, Talbot escorts her to a local carnival where Jenny’s fate is revealed by a mysterious gypsy fortune teller. The dreamlike atmospheres and elaborate settings combined with a chilling musical score make The World Man a masterpiece not only of the genre, but for all time!

ZOMBIELAND (DVD & Blu-Ray): Sony (PICK OF THE WEEK)

Nerdy college student Columbus has survived the plague that has turned mankind into flesh-devouring zombies because he’s scared of just about everything. Gun-toting, Twinkie-loving Tallahassee has no fears. Together, they are about to stare down their most horrifying challenge yet: each other’s company.

TEX SAYS: Nut up or Shut up…this was not only one of the best gene films of 2009, Zombieland was one of the best damn films of the year! If you’re gonna run to the store today and grab one….remember “Cardio!”
