[Random Cool] German Vs. American Cut Scenes Of Psycho!

Published

on

Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho is of course an all time classic and should never be messed with. But here’s an interesting bit of historical ephemera regarding an early cut of the film.

Apparently a German Televison broadcast showed a slightly different cut than the US Theatrical Version which is the standard we all know and love. I suppose perhaps German censors back in the day were less strict about the treatment of sensitive material than their US counterparts.

While the changes aren’t all that graphic, there is certainly a difference between the two cuts in some very key scenes. I wonder if Hitchcock himself regarded these uncut moments superior or if he was comfortable with the slightly tamed down mastery of the version that we’ve been watching for 50 years.
