Holy crap the next couple of weeks are going to break my bank as there are hundreds of horror films debuting on DVD/Blu-ray, along with classics being re-released in high def. This Tuesday, September 29th is no exception as you can score Gremlins (only at Target), Snakes on a Plane, Labyrinth, Dark Crystal and Fulci’s awesome New York Ripper all on Blu-ray. Also premiering on DVD is Dave Parker’s hotly anticipated The Hills Run Red, along with the Adam Sandler producer The Shortcut. Check out the full list below.

BLOODWINE: R Squared Films

But when the machinations of a mysterious woman, Carmilla, cause a birthday gift to go horribly awry, Andrea is forced to make the most difficult choice of her life, not only for herself, but for her dearest friend.

BURKE AND HARE: Redemption USA

A Hammer Horror-style thriller recreating the story of the (in)famous Irish body snatchers, Burke and Hare. In the early 1800s, the supply of corpses used for medical research were limited to those of executed criminals, leaving a great demand from medical schools. When a resident in Burke and Hare’s boarding house dies, they recognize the business potential in grave-robbing. Demand for dead bodies grows so high, they start speeding up the death process on their victims! However, suspicions rise when they murder a man seen earlier that day!

THE DARK CRYSTAL: Sony (Blu-ray)

THE DARK CRYSTAL- a source of Balance and Truth in the Universe- was shattered, dividing the world into two factions: the wicked Skeksis and the peaceful Mystics. Now, as the convergence of the three suns approaches, the Crystal must be healed, or darkness will reign forevermore! It’s up to Jen -the last of his race- to fulfill the prophecy that a Gelfling will return the missing shard to the Crystal and destroy the Skeksis’ evil Empire. But will young Jen’s courage be any match for the unknown dangers that await him?

DAUGHTER OF DARKNESS: Redemption USA

Based on the play They Walk Alone by Max Catto, Daughter of Darkness is an atmospheric gothic chiller following an Irish maid with an irresistible attraction to men. With the reputation as a temptress where even the local priest is attracted to her, she is forced to leave for England. Sexual desire soon descends into psychopathy, as she lures a carnival boxer and other men in her new town, whose desire for her results in their downfall.

DINNER WITH A VAMPIRE: Mya Communications

The story begins when a camera crew unearths a thousand year old vampire from Mesopotamia. Years after his rise from the grave, the vampire becomes a famous horror film director and holds auditions for his up and coming film. Four young hopefuls are chosen and are invited to spend the night at the vampire’s house. At dinner the vampire reveals his true nature to his guests and the real reason why they are there, to kill him before dawn, as he has grown bored with his existence.

DRACULA’S FINACEE: Redemption USA

A late addition in the Jean Rollin collection, Dracula’s Fiancée (2002) has everything you might expect from the master of surreal horror, and so much more! Mad, chain-smoking nuns, raging dwarf-jesters, vampires, she-wolves, baby-eating Ogresses and wizards galore, as a professor and his young assistant on the hunt for Count Dracula’s remains are thrown into a surreal parallel universe.

FARMHOUSE: Monarch

Chad and Scarlet leave their old life and horrifying secrets behind in search of a fresh start. But when a near-fatal car accident leaves them stranded in the middle of nowhere, they turn to a mysterious farm couple for shelter. Chad and Scarlet soon realize that this shadowy pair is somehow linked to their past and the fate of their future is held in unforgiving hands. Together, Chad and Scarlet endure immense torture and heartbreak in an attempt to make amends for their past mistakes, but will they be able to attain salvation, or will it be too late?

FERMAT’S ROOM: MPI

Four famed mathematicians, all strangers to one another, are invited to the remote home of a mysterious man known only as Fermat . Once there, they are locked in a room and given a series of logic puzzles that must be solved within one minute each. For each late answer, hydraulic presses will push the walls closer together. Why have they been placed in this elaborate death trap? What is their connection to each other? And for genius minds about to be brutally crushed, is staying alive the ultimate enigma?

FLESH, TX: Well Go USA

In the middle of nowhere lives a crazed and disturbed inbred family, the Barleys. When Donna Parker and her daughter Tabitha Parker stop for gas, little do they know what really goes on in Flesh, TX. Once Tabitha disappears from the gas station, Donna summons the help of the local sheriff who is not all he is cracked up to be. Donna becomes convinced that somehow this crazy town is connected. After she encounters Sugar Barley the local town slut, the hunt to find her daughter is on. She must hope she does not come across the Barley house on the edge of town. THE HAUNTING OF WINCHESTER HOUSE: The Asylum

A family moves into the mansion to act as caretakers, but when a malevolent force abducts their daughter they discover why the house deserves its reputation as one of the most haunted places in America.

IN A SPIRAL STATE: Halo 8

IN A SPIRAL STATE portrays Los Angeles through the eyes of an angel named Daya who’s become mesmerized by the city’s interconnected yet utterly isolated inhabitants, particularly its struggling and flawed artists, frauds, and drug addicts. Of particular interest to Daya is suicidal actress Maya and murderous femme fatales Marlena, Danielle, and Honey. An angel named Gadi tries to prevent Daya from interfering in their lives, but he is unable to stop the empathetic Daya as she is drawn into the frightening and twisted machinations of the city’s underbelly. Mixing Kabbalah, quantum mechanics, struggles of human existence, and theories of our own spiral galaxy, visionary filmmaker Ramzi Abed weaves an urban and divine love story in this hallucinatory thriller that pulls audiences into a world of drug overdoses, organ thieves, and metaphysical mystery.

LABYRINTH: Sony (Blu-ray)

Sarah wishes her brother would be taken away by goblins, but when he really is, she sets out to rescue him and has to cross the Labyrinth before she gets to the Goblin castle.

MONSTERS VS. ALIENS: Paramount

When Susan Murphy is unexpectedly clobbered by a meteor full of outer space gunk, she mysteriously grows to 49-feet-11-inches tall and is instantly labeled a “Monster” named Ginormica. The military jumps into action, and she is captured by General W.R. Monger and held in a secret government compound filled with other “monsters” like herself. This ragtag group consists of the brilliant but insect-headed Dr. Cockroach P.H.D.; the macho half-ape-half-fish The Missing Link; the gelatinous and indestructible B.O.B.; and the 350-foot grub called Insectosaurus. Their confinement time is cut short however, when a mysterious alien robot lands on Earth and the motley crew of Monsters is called into action to save the world from imminent destruction.

TEX SAYS: Along with Coraline, this was one of the best kids movies I saw all year. Check it out if you’ve got a love for 50’s atomic era flicks!

THE NEW YORK RIPPER: Blue Undergound (Blu-ray)

A blade-wielding psychopath is on the loose, turning The Big Apple bright red with the blood of beautiful young women. As NYPD detectives follow the trail of butchery from the decks of the Staten Island Ferry to the sex shows of Times Square, each brutal murder becomes a sadistic taunt. In the city that never sleeps, he’s the killer that can’t be stopped!

TEX SAYS: One of my fave Fulci films (everyone else hates it) gets some Blu-ray love from the crew at Blue Underground!

NIGHTMARE: IFC

A young film student has a one-night stand with an aspiring actress. The next morning, there is a video camera pointed at their bed. But rather than a sex tape, they find what appears to be a brutal snuff movie starring themselves as the killers. They have no memory of the murders and there is no evidence of the carnage. Do the answers to this waking terror wait in the student s own work, or could the line between reality and illusion slice straight to the edge of madness?

THE REAL GHOSTBUSTERS: COMPLETE COLLECTION: Time Life

As Ben attempts to rebuild his life, he gets a new job and new home and is befriended by a beautiful young neighbor, Charlotte, his life starts to turn around but all is not what it seems and, haunted by visions of his dead wife, Ben starts to lose his grip on reality and begins to doubt his own sanity.

UNTIL DEATH: Mya Communications

Six years later, the sinful couple hires a handyman, unaware that he is the reincarnated spirit of Scola’s late husband. Gioia Maria Scola stars in this creepy horror film as a pregnant woman who poisons her husband and helps her lover bury him alive during a raging thunderstorm.

‘Lisa Frankenstein’ Shambles Onto Blu-ray in April With Audio Commentary and Deleted Scenes

The horror-comedy Lisa Frankenstein is headed home to physical media, with the film zombie-walking its way onto DVD and Blu-ray from Universal on April 9, 2024.

Directed by Zelda Williams and written by Diablo Cody (Juno, Jennifer’s Body), Lisa Frankenstein will also be available for a lower price on Digital beginning March 29.

Meagan Navarro wrote in her review for Bloody Disgusting,” Billed as a coming-of-rage tale, Lisa Frankenstein instead offers a celebration of outcasts and weirdos.”

“It makes for a sugary sweet, almost wholesome effort held together by a trio of infectiously winsome performances,” Meagan’s review continued. She added, “As a celebration of teen girls and outcasts who just want to be loved, Lisa Frankenstein ultimately charms.”

Kathryn Newton (Freaky) and Cole Sprouse (“Riverdale”) lead the cast for Focus Features, and the new film is rated “PG-13” for “bloody images and sexual material.”

Carla Gugino (The Fall of the House of Usher), Liza Soberano (Alone/Together), Joe Chrest (Stranger Things) and Henry Eikenberry (The Crowded Room) also star.
