Sludge metal is sort of southern metal, very much stoner metal, especially slow grooving rhythms.

Ambient sort of speaks for itself. Drone metal is pretty much exactly what it sounds like...droning sounds. Very little drumming, almost no audible vocals, just guitars used to create notes so low that at times they can be physically difficult to listen to. Definitely abrasive in its own way. Bands like Sunn 0))) are amazing in their ability to create heavy, ambient, droning songs using guitars that make use of almost no discernable notes. This is definitely one of the more interesting genres of music out there right now.
