Default The Suspiria Remake: Cancelled

Well after checking the Front Page news I was surprised that they cancelled it. Then I read that one reason was because "Writer of the remake's screenplay Katz informed us that the biggest challenge in writing the script was finding a reason for the witches to be using a dance academy for their evil-doings."

Wow. At least to me they really didn't get it. Argento movies aren't really about the "Why's". They just are. I know as a remake it will add or subtract it's own things to the film but I think these guys were ill-equipped to make this movie. I have no problems with remakes but I'm glad that these guys aren't doing it. Maybe someone else a few years from now will try it but for now I guess it's a dead issue.

Oh well, I guess we have Argento's Third Mother movie to look forward to.

I've actually never seen Suspiria. So a remake wouldn't have killed me. Just ment i would've had to check out the original.

I didn't realize they were going to remake this, but I'm glad it's not going through. I'm being somewhat facetious, but what does Suspiria have other than it's (arguably) Argento at his best? Also, figuring out "why" would be completely missing the point.

Well, good. I wasn't shocked when i'd originally heard suspiria was going to be remade, kind of seems to be par for the course these days.. Atleast for horror movies that either did well financially, have a large fan base.. or both. Just being such a huge fan of the original, I was almost certain they'd never be able to make it work.

Yes, i'm a tad biased i'll admit.. but the fact that they got caught up in development dwelling on such a minute detail as to why it took place in a dance studio pretty much cements my assumption for me.

Anyone who knows any of the history behind the writing of suspiria would know that the setting of the story was a semi biographical account of a past experience of Daria's grandmother.. and those factual accounts add a sense of reality to the film that can be quite creepy. Yes there really are crazed cults, or religious organizations out there who hide behind false fronts.. shit... you could frequent or be working for one right now. Two words, Wal-Mart..

Edit- Wait, is Wal-mart one word or two?

I remember that part in the in the AB DVD. It would have been cool if they actually said the name of the school she attended where all that stuff happened.

This is what makes me laugh...I'll take it for what it's worth but I guess these guys had a hard time coming up with a detail that if you watch the movie kinda explains itself...I enjoy writing in my past time...I would also hope to one day make my own feature...and at least I know that if I get stumped on something I don't advertise my future plans...It bugs me to no end that these guys are making how much a year to write and they can't even do that...On another note seeing as I'm a fan of the original this is kinda ironic...

They'd be better off remaking "Tenebrae" since that has an explanation.
