Default Friday the 13th Part 2 (2010)

Officially Announced

Shortly after the closing of the remakes opening weekend, Platinum Dunes Producer Brad Fuller announced that there would most certainly be a sequel to their remake of Friday the 13th.

Quote:
"First of all, you can bet your ass that we want to do a sequel"

-Brad Fuller
Quote:
Unlike the sophomore efforts of other franchises, the new “Friday” is expected to be not a sequel so much as a follow-up, those familiar with the project say," reorts Risky Business Blog "Jason Voorhees will be the villain, of course, but the new picture is expected to use elements of the original franchise more as a jumping-off point than as a template.

The reason? The reboot drew from the first four pictures in the “Friday” series, and producers are said not to be keen on the plot elements of the half-dozen movies that followed. And Marcus Nispel, who directed the latest film, is a possible but unlikely candidate to helm the “Friday” follow-up; the director is believed to be fielding offers for movies across other genres."

UPDATE A recent interview over at Hitfix with Forum and Fuller revealed that they are looking to release a sequel in August of 2010.

The project is still not green lit but the script is also not done either (via shannon and swift). They did entertain rumors about a possible winter setting, but that is only because everything about the movie is still open. One rumored laid to rest for now is the possibility of 3D. Unless they are granted a larger budget, they would not pursue that avenue.

They also did mention that they received some backlash over the quality of kills and that it would be a focus point of improvement in the sequel. I'm hoping they follow through as I did find myself becoming board with the kills in the theatrical release.

There is a lot of room for improvement for the next installment. Let's hope they can make all the right decisions in order to do so. (cough...lose the jacket!...cough)

Friday the 13th Part 2
Production: Platinum Dunes Brad Fuller and Andrew Forum
Director:
Writers: Damian Shannon and Mark Swift
Starring: Derek Mears (Jason)
Release: August 13th, 2010 (Est)

I knew this was coming. I won't be as excited for this one as I was for the first.

I actually really liked the remake. Will definitly see this opening night at midnight.

Would be cool if they brought back more of the original soundtrack though.

Why not? The other Friday thread was starting to clutter up with some talk about the sequel so why not separate the conversations. Keep the reviews over there and talk about the next one over here. Production could start up shortly after Nightmare wraps up.

Good news IMO. I really think that the next movie will be better. Not that I thought this movie was bad but it was simple. I think that it has to be that way because more than anything we needed a Jason that would be a badass again. What worked for me was that Jason kicked ass and wasn't the butt of jokes or given a campy role.

Maybe with the next movie we can get hints of a Voorhees back story (no prequal please) and get some better characters.

If someone can hold the damn camera steady, I just might be interested. More use of the classic music would be nice, too.

Yea I wasn't a fan of Jablonski's soundtrack either. besides Ki Ki Ki Ma Ma Ma it didn't contain anything from the originals. I expected a lot better. It almost sounded like industrial techno. At one point however I swear I heard the drum beat from the famous Part 3 soundtrack.

Oh and that 'porno' music he slipped in when that girl was rubbing oil on her teets, yikes. That sounded like the stoner music from FvJ when that douchebag with the beanie gets stoned with caterpillar Freddy.

I really think that the feed back from their first movie could impact the next one greatly. There were a lot of chances for them to take that movie to the next level. Hindsight is 20/20 but hopefully they can use that info to improve upon the next installment.

The campiness I can take, however it was just too cliche for me. Even Chewie toasts to being a cliche, that was horrible. I think if you go back and look at the dialogue from the originals parts 1 and 2 you can see that the characters live up to stereotypes buy their looks and actions, not by reminding you with their dialogue every two seconds.

That would depend on if the trend dies out by then.

I don't understand why we would need hints to his back story. It's not as if it's something that has never been touched upon before. It's rather well known.
