Default New Line Cinema is no more...

I tried doing a search for this, but I didn't see anything.

I don't know how a sleaze like Perez Hilton would be privy to this information, but this was just posted on his site. Take this with a grain of salt, as he reported like 3 months ago that Fidel Castro was so absolutely dead that doornails were jealous:

Quote:
New Line Cinema is dead.

Bowing down to corporate pressure, the heads of the movie studio resigned today. Major layoffs are expected imminently.

New Line will now be folded into Warner Bros.

Here is the email that was just sent out to all staffers:

"February 28, 2008

To: New Line Colleagues

From: Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne

Subject: Our Company

This afternoon, Time Warner is announcing that New Line will become a unit of Warner Bros. This is, of course, a very difficult and emotional time for all of us who have worked at New Line. While there is not much we can say that can lessen the impact of this announcement, we did want you to know about the decision before you read about it in the press.

New Line will maintain its own identity and will continue to produce, market, and distribute movies. But New Line will now do so as part of Warner Bros. and will probably be a much smaller operation than in the past. Time Warner hopes that operating New Line as a unit of Warner Bros. will allow New Line to focus on the creative side of movie-making, while reducing costs and taking advantage of Warner Bros.' distribution systems. The company will be holding group meeting with New Line employees tomorrow in Los Angeles and New York to discuss this announcement, and is committed to letting employees know as soon as possible about how this change affects them individually.

For our part, we will be stepping down as Co-Chairmen and Co-CEOS of New Line. This was a painful decision, because we love New Line and the people who work here have been like our second families. But we will be leaving the company with enormous pride in what all of us at New Line have accomplished together. From its humble beginnings 40 years ago, our studio has created some of the most popular and successful movies of all time. Those movies are a tribute to the amazing creative energy and entrepreneurial abilities of the talented people at New Line. They are a legacy that will endure forever.

Although we are stepping out of New Line, we intend to remain actively involved in the industry in an entrepreneurial capacity, and will keep you advised of developments.

We thank all of you who have worked so hard to make New Line such a success. We are very proud of every one of you.

Bob & Michael"

Was this expected? I'll admit that I haven't been as up on movie news as I should be recently.

Now, if only Warner Bros. can acquire Paramount and the rights to release F13 and MBV uncut.

New Line sucks. Boo!

They're not folding. We work directly with them on DVD promotions. They are still their own company, but the distribution will go through Warner Bros. who is their parent company anyway so it's really not a big deal. Just sucks that we'll get cut out of doing NL dvd promotions since WB is run by a bunch of dickheads.

They would never give them the special treatment...trust me...they're just as bad with old films.

WB released the original uncut everywhere except the US(where they don't have rights to do so), so I like to think they'd do it.

Well, only time will tell, but from the people I know over there...those movies probably wouldn't be high on their list for special treatment.

This really doesn't make much difference to me. So one of the bigger companies got eaten by a bigger company. They almost all play by the same rules anyway, so I really can't see much of a difference in what's going to happen as far as movie output is concerned.

I am more concerned with what Shaye is going to do, since he's leaving the company. He is, after all, one of the major producers that kept the Nightmare franchise going for so long, among other things. Where is he going, and what's he going to do from now on? If he isn't going to be involved with any part of the film making process we stand to lose a man who helps the horror genre stay popular.

Kind of sad, but New Line is one of the few big companies to start from scratch fairly recently and do well. There's so much changing of hands and incest in the film industry that it's best to just not worry about these things. It's inevitable.

They were nearly bankrupt until they picked up Lord of the Rings. My fondest memories of New Line are watching "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: The Secret of the Ooze" on VHS and seeing the trailer for Suburban Commando. Oh, the days.

I think we are all missing the moral of this story. NEVER listen to Perez Hilton because he/she is a stupid fuck. THE END.
