The new Nile album is a whole lot better than pretty good!!!

The new Slayer album I didn't really care for on the first listen, and just now only three maybe four songs have grown on me. I couldn't figure out why I didn't care for this until after a couple of spins. I was saddened when I figured it out, the band totally changed their sound! After nearly a 30 yr.career, and imo, not one bad album, they went and changed the formula.World Painted Blood has some Slayer moments on it, but not enough, it's like they went and tried to sound new, or should I say nu?

I thought I wasn't going to like this album, I mean God Hates Us All didn't stand the test of time and Christ Illusion ( with the expection of 'Jihad') got old in a week. I'm happy to say that World Painted Blood is their freshest sounding album since Divine Intervention. It's also nice to have Hanneman participate more for this album and Araya with the lyrics.

The Good:

A some what nice mix of Reign In Blood and Seasons In The Abyss.

Beauty Before Order is the most "Seasons-ish" sounding tune on the album. Love the evil relax vibe it has.

A big fan of the haunting dark middle section of Human Strain.

Unit 731 and Psychopathy Red is classic Slayer, whlie Snuff would fit nicely on Divine Intervention.

Araya sounds great.

The Bad:

My main problem with the production is the guitar tone. It's too thin not enough meat on it. I don't hear that twin guitar duel from Hanneman and King. It mostly sounds like one guitar for the rhythm playing.

I'm not sure how I feel with Playing With Dolls, due to lead tone it sounds like a watered-down Spill The Blood. I don't hate the song but I'm not sure if I can love it as I do with Spill The Blood.

I think the breakdown in Not Of This God is really stupid and gay. I hate how Kings always has to add in that nu-metal sound into their albums. When will he learn?

Americon is the album's only extremely bad song, very uninspired.

7.5/10, It's a huge improvement over their last three album. Let's hope the improvement continues with their next studio effort.

would be better of tom and jeff took over on lyrics. id like to see kerry go back to writing like he used to, but i think he just do something like "hail satan, motherfucker". The new shirts look badass www.slayerized.com and if you go to merchandise.
