The big turnoff for me with Jackson is that they have been owned or atleast controlled by Fender now for a few years and when I think about heavy metal guitars I don't think "Fender" at all. The only reason I have the Squire Strat is that I needed a guitar at the time and it was within my budget. I dunno maybe a Jackson Rhoads V or a Soloist will set me right.

At least with my experience Jacksons have faster necks which is nice for lead metal. But every time I play a Dean I feel awesome, like Dime.
