This one and the fourth tie for my least favorite. It just feels ridiculous and over the top by now. Almost like self parody and that's just sad cause the story is here; easily the most sympathetic story in the franchise to date. The bulk of the movie will undoubtedly appeal to fans of straight up gross out factor, but it doesn't strive to be terrifying or demented or at all captivating like the original.
Though I will say that the operation scene is something to behold.
this is my fav saw out of all 5.
it has so many twists and turns it makes you feel
like you just got punched in the face.
my fav scene ( spoilers ) was when jigsaw and amanda set up the bathroom trap.
dude if your a fan of this franchise then you will love saw III
YOUVE GOT TO BE KIDDING! The saw movies are so bad, they just keep getting worse, and the amazing thing is that i saw all of them, probably just because i wanted to see the 1st one, then i wanted to see the 2nd one to see if it could get better (wrong as hell of course) and the 3rd one i saw cause theire was absolutely nothing to see and i figured "fuck it". The first and 2nd movie started out ok, then just got downright awful and the latest 3 are just unmentionably bad. the killer"john" is the most pathetic rip off of a hannibal lecter smart guy killer, it makes me sick. gay as all hell. these movies are boring and are the same stupid shit over and over that just suprisingly get worse. And dint get me started on the "twist endings" the first one was kind of cool, then the following delved into a level of mindless absolute nonsensical bullshit that the directors themselves probably thought was fuckin retarted. I would give these movies negative 5 if i could. 3 giant thumbs down.
Great. Although this wasn't as good as #2, this is just under that line. This sequel packed the gore to the extreme and the plot was very very intriguing. When comparing this to #2, i look at what scenes are watchable (all), what scenes made me cringe (70%), and what makes it great. The whole movie is interesting because little does Amanda know that she is also playing a game.
The plot is great, the scenes are great, the texture is great, and most importantly, the gore. Without all that this film would've burnt to the ground. The best part of the plot is abruptly the ending when we are left hanging gobless, wanting more. As each year passes you realise that each sequel from then on is most likely going to drop greatness by a certain percent. This is no exception, although a great film, not as good as #2.
Overall Saw 3, is gritty, gorey, and great, a must for any Saw lovers. My rating is 4/5

Part 1 is the best. Prt 2 is the 2nd best. This is the 3rd best. Meaning they just keep getting worse. Even though I still like this one.
Great saw film! Jigsaw's latest game brings you to his deathbed and the judgement of his apprentice who may not be the best one to carry on the legacy. Another great twist like always and more and more gore!

My favorite of all of the Saws. Love Shawnee Smith. I thought this one had the most gore. And the first part made me turn away, and that never happens, usually happens with my mom. Loved it all over. This definitely should've been the last one though. Would've been better off. The rest of the Saws aren't as interesting to me without Amanda or John Kramer.
traps are great in this one. but when i first watched this one i thought the acting was very dissaponting...

Saw III is my second favourite of all the Saw films, yes it was the most gory and brutal, but it also showed a lot of character development in John Kramer and I think that's what it made it stand out for me.

I have seen all the "Saw" movies and while this isn't the best it certainly isn't the worst. Saw III is a good sequel because the ending is one of the best endings I've ever seen in a movie franchise. Speaking of the ending, the ending is so creative that this could have ended the series and the ending would have left a strong mark for the Saw series. Oh well what can you do. Saw III is also an okay film because there is more dialogue than traps. Overall I give Saw III a 6 out of 10 or 3 out of 5 skulls.
I love SAW 3, it has a cold and evil atmosphere and all the traps are disturbing. Without doubts the most violent of the whole franchise, besides the drama makes it a great history.
Since 2004, the Saw series has been thrilling horror fans around the globe, and is hailed by many as a new life for a dead genre. The box office intake for each film has increased with each movie made, pleasing not only the fans, but also the film's creators. The movies are all made on a very small budget, which makes their success even more of a delight. After seeing Saw III, I can safely say that this may very well be the best horror trilogy ever created. While Saw IV is already set for a release next Halloween, I'm not sure that they can ever top what happened in the first three movies. Saw III is directed by Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw II) and written by the brilliant Leigh Whannel (Adam from Saw, writer of Saw and Saw II) and James Wan (writer and director of Saw).
In Saw III, Jigsaw is on his death bed. His cancer is finally about to end him, and he plans for Amanda, his apprentice, to take over once he dies. As a sort of going away present, Jigsaw plans one final game of grand scale. This time around, Lynn, an experienced surgeon, and Jeff, a troubled father, become entangled in Jigsaw's grizzly web of torture and violence; Lynn must keep Jigsaw alive until Jeff finishes his tests.
Saw III would be the ideal ending to the Saw franchise, with loads of flashbacks, explanations, nearly perfect closure, and the most gore of any film in recent memory. The gore is really piled on here, with bones snapping, pig carcasses grinding, rib-cages ripped off – it doesn't get any worse than this. But this is, perhaps, what makes these films so great for horror fans. With all of the blood and guts displayed on the screen is a well-played-out story with plenty of twists and turns and interesting characters.
The traps are also an important part in any Saw film, and we get plenty of them here, including a twisting, mechanical crucifix crudely titled "The Rack", a device that attached to ones ribs that tears them out, and many others which involve chains, shotgun shells, and other such horrors.
The film also delves much deeper into the relationship between Jigsaw and Amanda, and gives the audience a behind the scenes look at what makes these killers tick. The acting is superb, perhaps the best so far in the series. The writers and directors seem to have learned what the fans really want, and delivered an amazing horror movie that is an instant classic.
You'll shield your eyes, you'll look away in disgust, you might even throw up – it really is that nasty. Saw III is actually more of a psychological thriller than it is a horror film, which makes it all the better.
Would have been better as a standalone movie in my opinion. Sure it has gore by the bucketload but it takes more than that to make a good horror movie, it takes a believable plotline and I am afraid this does not have one!
The idea is good but there is very little connection to the two previous films. Sure we see how Jigsaw and Amanda developed as characters and how they started out with the killings in the original film but that is all. And bearing in mind the third film takes off where the second on ended there is almost no link whatsoever to it.
At the end of the second film a dying Jigsaw is in police custody yet in the third film he has managed to escape and even more amazingly manages to survive open brain surgery whilst awake and no gen anaeshetic. He would have died of shock! Just too unrealistic for me. And for a dying man and young woman to be able to kidnap the victims and put them in the various traps is too farfetched!
The first two traps/kills had no connection to the story other than to increase the blood count. Jigsaw no longers takes a jigsaw shaped piece of flesh from his victims which is after all how he got his name. The guy in chains was doomed anyway because even if he pulled them all out the door was welded shut. And the lady in the angel trap would never have pulled those things off her ribs even if she had undone the harness. Both these go against the rules of the game as neither of them had any chance of surviving!
It would have been better if it was a standalone film or the sequel to the original, started with the lady doctor being kidnapped and the first two traps being incorporated later on in the film!
Can't say I am enthused about watching any more Saw films. And I am giving it a five purely for the inventiveness of the traps, the pig one was the best!

my least favorite of the 4 i have seen so far, i found this to be not that interesting at all, characters i didnt care about, like some you would care about in the first two.
a pointless "game" in the end as the first two had successful twists, this one does not.
When I found out that Saw 2 was coming out a year or so after Saw I was kinda disappointed, it seemed like LionsGate was just trying to ride off the big money flow from the original's DVD stardom to see if they can make a successful sequel. In my opinion Saw 2 wasn't that great, sure it was "good" but it lacked the magic touch of the original writers for the story and screenplay (Leigh Whannel and James Wan) so when I heard that saw 3 was coming out, yet again a year after, I could have bet right there that it would be garbage. Later on I found out that the same writers had returned to do Saw 3 - and they did their job! Saw 3 was great, it doesn't touch the original but it sure beats the Saw 2 into the ground - you get everything you'd expect from Saw and more. The plot in Saw 3 starts off right where Saw 2 left it and it makes for a GREAT intro before the opening credits. As the movie goes on we're taking back in flashbacks a few times to explain some stuff in the other two movies and it kinda dulls down a bit on the excitement meter. Once you make it past the slow down after the incredible rush from the intro it gets back into it and stays that way right until the end. I'm not going to give away anything but this: the ending delivers the goods.
Good movie should have definitely ended the series this movie I enjoyed. Favorite part is the Jigsaw head operation in the beginning I really enjoyed the ending, not as good as part 1 but gets the same rating as part 2 which is a decent sequel recommended.
1. Despite what "Horror518" says there are PLENTY of things wrong with the SAW movies. The first one is a blatant horror rip off of Se7en and pretty much just straight up steals scenes from it (i.e. when the detectives(danny glover and the asian dude...sorry can't remember his name) go to jigsaw's "house" "warehouse" whatever and he comes back and then there's a chase...eerily like when mills and somerset go to john doe's apartment). Not to mention the whole pay for your sins deal.
2.There's a recap at the end of every movie like I'm some fucking retarded person who can't get the twist and put two and two together without a montage of the movie I JUST WATCHED flash before my eyes. STOP INSULTING YOUR AUDIENCE!
3. The first SAW has good intentions/ideas(probably because James Wan has wet dreams after watching Se7en) but terrible execution. Cary Elwes was a disaster in this movie and should stick with movie's like the Princess Bride and Liar Liar. It's not just Cary's fault, all the acting sucked, even Danny Glover which blew my mind.
4. The third SAW is fucking garbage. SO many people died in what SOME might think are cool original ways but who gives a shit. The people that died mean nothing. You never get anytime to get to know them or give a shit about them. And the "twist" give me a break. *spoiler* The girl has another test? Oh come the fuck on really? TERRIBLE! It's waste of time. If I just want to watch people I know nothing about die I'll watch Faces of Death(at least that'll be the real thing).
AND FINALLY...
The 2nd SAW wasn't bad I found it entertaining but after watching the third installment I will never watch any of these movies again.
Darren Bousman started a good thing with the second but really shit the bed with the third.
The SAW franchise is for mass consumption and the instantly gratified(I.E. for people who like bullshit movies like Final Destination and it's sequels and think Scream is a great horror movie).
I've made it my life goal to see every horror movie (mainly every gory horror movies) ever made. By now I've seen about 70% of them. I can't remember the last movie that made me cringe, it was so long ago. You could call me so desensitized that even the worst of the worst gore puts me to sleep---literally.
But then there is Saw III.
I've seen all of the other Saw movies, including Saw IV, but I never say this one until now because my ex wouldn't let me. I already knew the story. I already knew most of the gore scenes . . . and it still shocked me.
Unlike the boring, ungory Hostel: Part II, this movie is made for the MTV generation. It doesn't take time to characterize cliche characters that could be copy/pasted from a hundred other movies, it doesn't start out slow and build "suspense" that isn't suspenseful, it's pretty much pure intensity from opening to finishing.
The gore is possibly some of the most intense gore I've seen in any movie to date. It's not as bloody as it could have been, but it's 1000x more brutal and creative than anything I've seen in any movie ever. And the lack of blood isn't because of a pansy director, it's because in the real situations there wouldn't be that much blood. Not to mention, this is one of the only movies I've ever seen where the camera does not blink once. No cut-off scenes, no pansy "no show, but grueling sound effects! OMG!", the camera simply does not blink away from the gore. Truly pornographic gore. Thank God someone has balls.
Gore aside, this has to be the single most intense movie I've ever seen in my life.
Mr. Disgusting things the new The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is intense, but, sorry, this makes that look childish. This makes both Hostels look childish. It makes the other Saw movies, including IV, look tame. The ending is intense I cried. "She didn't change! Because no one ever f***ing changes! No one is reborn!" The dialogue, without any of the gore, alone makes the entire Hostel and Texas Chainsaw Massacre series combined look unexciting. I have simply yet to see a movie with more pure, unholy intensity.
Saw III is possibly the most perfect movie I've ever seen. I'm not sure if I like it more or less than Saw II, but it's certainly close. Everything reeks of polish and genius, but still keeps the low-budget feel.
Forget The Mist or The Decent or whatever crap you're watching: WATCH THIS MOVIE.
"'Saw III' is a classic case of an ambitious sequel that has a few really nice ideas and some scenes that will make fans of the franchise very happy, but in the end it doesn't, it can't hold a candle to the original. It's a rule of the series by now that a "Saw" movie must include a lot of gory deaths as well as an unexpected twist at the end. While the first thing isn't so hard to come up with - and the makers definitely do a fine job thinking of the sickest, bloodiest deaths possible - it's the twist that seems more forced with each entry in the franchise. It's a disadvantage that we know for a fact a surprise is coming. What's worse is that in "Saw III" the final twist doesn't resolve a question we've been asking ourselves during the whole movie. No, it's question and answer in one and that doesn't make it particularly interesting. It's just a lot of explaining over some annoyingly edited flashbacks.
Speaking of flashbacks, there are way too many in this movie. We see things that we really never needed to see. Loose ends are tied up that aren't actually loose ends. It's like the writers read too many threads on the IMDb message boards for the previous movies and decided to spell out everything that has been ambiguous until now to put an end to all discussions once and for all. It only goes to show that those things were a lot more intriguing when they were left in the dark.
Jigsaw himself won't ever keep his mouth shut in this movie. The guy has thought of many cruel traps but his constant blabbering is his most sadistic device. He's already been overexposed in part 2, and this entry in the series continues to make that mistake. After the revelation about his identity at the end of the original, there really weren't too many mysteries surrounding him anymore, but part 3 still tries to come up with some (mainly about his relationship to his complice). Again, this is unnecessary and not very interesting information.
So, yes, "Saw III" is as fast paced as its predecessors and the gruesome torture scenes don't disappoint. See it, if you're looking for mindless fun, but don't expect it to knock you off your feet the way the original did. Apparently part 4 is already in the works. Now that's just going to be a waste of time as "Saw III" already ends the series. Guess, Hollywood never learns. 'Halloween' anyone?" --Superunknovvn, imdb.com
the best saw to date.
this movie really needs to spare some of its originality to other horror movie schlock. thats how good it is. the characters where very believable, and i think Bahar Soomekh did especially well. I thought this movie was very emotional, and it really messes with your head. Very unpredictible, VERY gory, but in a good way that is. awesome awesome awesome flick
saw 3 was a great addition to the series. it had a graet story to it. what really got this movie though was amandas story. amanda has been my favorite character in the series and i was glad saw 3 was mostly her story. the ending shocked me and left me in anticipation for 4.
Saw is one of the only movies with sequels that are easily as good as it. This movie is awesome!!!!! Blood, Gore, everything a horror movie needs... including a great story!!!!!!
Tobin Bell and Shawnee Smith are fantastic giving their superb performances of two of the most prolific human killers in History of Horror.
Bahar Soomekh and Angus MacFadyen play their part correctly, and the favourite Dina Meyer reprise her role as Agent Kerry (my personal favourite¡¡).
The traps are terrific and the film is a non-stop ride.
