This movie is hella fun, and in my opinion, more enjoyable than the first two. Ash at his best! Sexy, sly, and blood splattered! I can't believe it's been sixteen years already...
I was very skeptical about seeing Army of Darkness because it would tackle on a newer, outrageous direction set in the Middle Ages, but I was fooled again. This is as perfect and as brilliant as its predecessors and might even surpass the original in brilliance and creativity. It's silly, good old fashioned fun. If your looking for scares there is scarcely none, but that is nowhere near the film's intentions, it's suppose to be hilarious, goofy fun and there's nothing wrong with that.
I was also impressed that usually the gore level is maximum, hence Evil Dead, but this one was low. It served the purpose that you can still make a brilliant masterpiece and still exclude gore. This is a great addition to the series and I highly recommend it to newcomers. The evil dead trilogy is easily my favorite. Great work Sam Raimi. And if you've already seen the evil dead trilogy, check out the superior Drag me to hell.
hore_freak13 took the words right out of my mouth. Once again, bruce campbell proves that he is absolutely the epitome of MAN. i remember seeing this growing up and all i remember was the phrase boomstick and these cool skeleton warriors. sam raimi does not disappoint! another great addition :)
I remember this flick from when I was a young teenage boy, thinking how incredible Bruce Campbell is. Then I found out this was a 3rd movie in a trilogy of something called "evil dead???" I thought, maybe I'll have to check the rest out... and from there it became history.
Bruce Campbell is THE MAN. This is one set of movies they can NEVER remake because it will NEVER live up to the originals. Evil Dead is the definition of cult classic, and here folks is one hell of a movie.
Hail To The King Baby! That right hes back and pissed off as ever. Iv never laughed so hard. From beating the snot out of Deadites and demanding sugar from damsels in distress. Bruce Campbell is a cult hero. The direction for this movie and the sheer hilarity of it make it a timeless joy ride everyone should enjoy.
As far as horror movies go this movie is lacking. But if horror and bad comedy are what you are looking for then this one hits the nail right on the head. It definitely has its moments and does remain true to the original formula of some good laughs and some good ol' fashioned demon horror. This one takes the laughs side a bit too far and the laughs are not really there. I bought Evil Dead and Evil Dead 2 on VHS and then later on DVD but this one won't make the collection.

"This, is my BOOMSTICK!"
Oh Ash, never catching a break. Great movie, took the franchise in a different direction, added a lot more comedy without sacrificing what made Evil Dead good. Still got the gore, the deadites, the chain saw, and of course, the boomstick. Bruce Campbell doesn't get nearly enough of the credit he deserves, the man is a great actor.
Army of Darkness is a classic film. It may not be as great as Evil Dead II, as it sacrifices some scares for more laughs, but it's an astounding piece of art nonetheless. One cannot call himself (or herself) a horror film fan without seeing this movie. It's a must-see, and deserves more than the 3.5 skulls it received on this website. Watch it now!
simply good... nice effects for 93 .. and it was the best starting and ending in the fucking trilogy...shame that he becoms old in this virsion but so scary look
"Alright you primitive screw-heads, listen up", see this...this is my review of this film... Nothing but fondness for this flick. great! with rare exeption bruce campbell has never made a bad film(i.e. alien apocalypse, man with two brains). not near as gory as the first two evil dead films, but just as fun. the chainsaw hand is one of the coolest props ever. cool monsters too. great fun.

Fun entertainment and a cool horror film from the third entry in the evil dead series, this and part 2 are my favorites of the 3, this one was cool in where it took place at. ash is a fun character and bruce campbell obviously has a blast in these movies. he fits perfectly in this character
Hail to the king baby. The best damn movie ever made Horror or not. It rocks my socks.
I give Bruce Campbell vs The Army of Darkness 10 Deadites out of 10 Deadites.
"Ash is back, literally. Trapped back in the middle ages, the Evil Dead hero must not only do battle once again with the merciless deadites, he must also take on the savage Army of Darkness.
Bruce Campbell returns as Ash, the only surviving member of the first two Evil Dead movies. This story pretty much takes up where the last one left off, with our hero trapped in the dark ages. Only instead of being revered as a hero, Ash is beaten and shackled by an army of men who believe him to be a member of a rival army. Quickly Ash is put to the test by once again doing battle with an evil deadite when the army throws him in to a pit. However, what they didn't expect was for Ash to defeat the deadite, which he does, and thus they render him a salvation. Our hero is then brought back to their town, and asked to journey out in search of the illustrious Necronomicon, so the evil can be destroyed once and for all. Reluctantly he agrees, but just like Ash, instead of finding the book and destroying the evil, he finds the book and not only creates an evil Ash, but an entire army of undead skeletons. Now the real battle begins and it's up to the living to stop the dead.
Army of Darkness stars the excellent Bruce Campbell in the role that was tailor made for him, and once again, he does his job perfectly. Watching the punishment this poor man takes is really a reason to rent this movie in itself. He is really the main focus, and there isn't a lot of screen time for anyone else, except for Ash's maiden love interest played by Embeth Davidtz. But to the fans of these films ,I'm sure that's just the way they like it.
Also returning is Sam Raimi the director/writer who has carved his name in Hollywood with these movies. This is a great re-telling of sorts of the Jason and the Argonauts story, only with a little more schlock, however in some scenes, like the skeletons giving Ash three stooges treatment, there is a little too much schlock. Don't get me wrong though, the film is funny and does have some great one-liners, such as Ash introducing his sawed off shotgun as his "boomstick", and calling some of the men "primitive screw-heads". The effects are great, and the direction is superb, especially scenes of the Army of Darkness riding horseback and attacking the castle.
However, being a huge fan of zombie movies, I was hopping to see a few more deadites and a few less skeletons. Although I know Raimi did this on purpose so he could put a different spin on his story and keep it original. Of special note, on DVD there is the actual original ending that was not shown in theatres. It's a great ending that keeps a little more in tow with the story, and does an interesting job of setting itself up for a sequel.
Raimi, producer Rob Tapert, and co-writer Ivan Raimi, do a good job of putting this film together, and it is a lot of fun to watch. Although not as serious and as gory as the first two, this third installment definitely makes me thirst for another sequel. I do hope, however, that they go back to the style of the original films, cutting out a little of that schlock, and adding in a few more chills. So if you're in the mood for a horror trilogy, check out the first two Evil Dead movies and then get ready to take on the Army of Darkness." -- JohnnyPhoenix (Johnnyvolume555@hotmail.com), imdb.com
This movie is a classic. Plain and simple. The cult following is huge, and it is just loved by all. And for good reason. This movie is what I like to call "slapstick horror". You have unique camera angles, funny blood-squirting, and funny dialogue. It isn't meant to scare you, it
is meant to entertain you. Blood squirting isn't meant to gross you out, it is meant to be funny. And it is.
This movie is a sequal to Evil Dead 2, where ash uses the Necronomicon, but ends in medieval Europe, hailed as the savior of the people from the "deadites", which are pretty much the same monsters from the other movies. The story may seem a little odd, but that doesn't stop it from being good. I think the best part is when he screws up the magic words for claiming the Necronomicon (they were the ones from "The Day the Earth Stood Still") and releases all havoc on the land.
This movie is extremely enjoyable, and is, in my opinion, one of the funniest horror movies ever. It is too bad Bruce Campbell is regarded as a B-actor because I thought he was great here.
Overall, I would say rent it. You'll be glad you did.
