Who the hell would give this wanna be intellectual horror drama 4 and a half sculls??? WTF!!! The only people who will find any real enjoyment out of this film are psychiatrists and the patents. An experament in waisting my time is what this movie is!!! I understand what the writer and director were hoping for a mish mash of HAUT TENSION AND FUNNY GAMES (uk)but it was nothing what they had hoped for but a dull ride down dull st!!!
Director - Paul Fox
Writer - Wil Zmak
Actors - B / Indie Style, but in a good way
Who Will Love It - Psychosis / Thriller crowds, Horror DVD Rental fiends aching for that one satisfying find, amateur writers / directors looking for some positive reinforcement that YES, horror can be done, and done well, with out millions of studio ransom, and gilted females with a (fantasy of course) bloodthirst for an ex.
Who Will Hate It - The Impatient (which is fine, embrace it my eager zealots!), Monster / Mask Lovers, Strickly Gore Hounds, and the unavoidable counterfeit horror fans who need fear force fed to them in plastic disintegrating capsules from media saturation and public review.
The main character Samantha is a psychiatrist who works with mental and violent sporadics. She tries to have a quiet weekend at a remote cabin with her sister and boyfriend. (Note to travel agents: never use the terms remote, quiet, solitary, backwoods, secluded, isolated, or private when describing a cabin or home unless you really wish harm on a client.) The film is edited to make deep cuts between Samantha’s hospital life, and private distress but in a back and forward motion. The flashbacks are more like memories and thus less annoying than the scooby doo dream sequences. The man-in-the-woods turns out to be Harlan, an ex patient and sex offender and his new fair-haired boy toy. Harlan begins a serious of psycho-terror games on the three and Samantha tries to overcome her own issues to out-psych Harlan. The plot is twisting, but not leading to an unknown end. However, the end scenes themselves do have original merit and left me not shocked, but gratified.
