eh could have been better. too much focus on gore, good story though, one good death scene at the end, the other two sucked including the last one. sorry but i would have tortured the guy for A LOT longer than that. he was the hottest bad i've seen in a long time though. gotta see original now. eh.

I was pretty impressed with this movie. It surpassed my expectations. It has grisly violence and disturbing scenes. I just wish the ending was different. Definately, view this movie!

This is just as nasty and ugly as the original, but also very good. This is straight up exploitation/revenge and uncomfortable viewing. Although it is toned down a bit from the original, all the violence on display is graphic and upsetting, especially the attack on the girls and the rape in particular.
The gang of thugs are repulsive and when the parents strike back their actions, although extremley violent, are completely justified.
The entire cast do a good job and it's great to see Aaron Paul from TV's Breaking Bad in a major film role, but special mention goes to Monica Potter as the vengeful mother.
Horror is supposed to be uncomfortable and this movie wins in that department on all levels.
File this ine under 'one of the good remakes'.
I was never a huge fan of the original, though I appreciate it's impact on the horror/revenge genre.
The remake has a few minor changes and a few big ones. Not all of which benefit the film. The most obvious and obligatory one is the survival of the daughter. How convenient that the father is a surgeon! (though I think he was a doctor in the original, you never saw him in the ER or putting his skills to use at all) This gave the movie a happier, fluffier feeling and, perhaps, made the parents seem a little crazier and vengeful than was necessary.
It's so hard for me to judge this movie. Yes, it was an enjoyable movie as a whole but the fact that it's a remake makes comparisons an undeniable necessity.
The remake is a lot more toned down. The rapes and kills aren't nearly as brutal or disturbing to watch; getting your wiener gnawed on is a bit more intense than getting your hand caught in a garbage disposal, but the claw hammer in the head was a nice touch.
At the same time, gore effects have come a long in 37 years; maybe Iliadis was afraid of making a movie that might make people puke in the theaters.
Oh and as for Mr. Disgusting's rant on the ending, I totally agree (though Dr. Collingwood acted similarly in the original). It's just a little beyond the realm of reality.

I haven't seen the original so I can't comment on how it compares, but I can say that it was better than I had expected. The acting was excellent and the build-up was definitely there, but I wish it had concentrated more on the revenge aspect than the initial attack.
this movies is disturbing and realistic untill the last bit with the microwave

I just rented this movie and have to say I was a bit disappointed. I never saw the original but I have to say this one didn't please me very much. The camera was shaking around alot and the characters were terrible. Remakes are over rated. Stop this madness
Disgusting movie. I am a huge horror fan and this was not horror. There wasn't a single scary part about this movie. It was a pure snuff film. Anyone that gets any sort of enjoyment out of watching someone get raped is sick. Terrible plot, terrible development. Just a terrible movie overall, as it serves NO purpose. The original was stupid to begin with so why would they remake it the same? Would NOT recommend to anyone.

The Last House on the Left was brutality pushed over the limits. That being said, i believe that (spoiler) the rape scene was a little too prolong and disturbing for my taste. I was expecting it but i didnt expect it to be so disgusting. The brutality of the film was really good besides the rape part. i would not recommend it to anyone that is not a horror fan but if you are, i recommend a rental.
I thought the crimes shown in this were much more prolonged, disturbing, and realistic than any of the revenge, which was pretty unsatisfying.
And the parent characters were bullshit, no emotions or character development going on there.
The bad people had far more going on, Garret Dillahunt giving more of that cold psycho that he first brought to icy life in Deadwood, also cool to see Breaking Bad's Aaron Paul as a creepy deviant type.
But the parents?! There was no kind of emotional shift from Mr and Mrs White Bread, to Say Hello To The Microwave ( Ridiculously comical death scene).
But still, it's got more going for it than most of these bollocks remakes.
One of the best horror movies ever made! I went in with very little expectations and was blown away. I saw the original after this one, and I must say, this is by far the better movie. Skip the old, dated original, and go buy/rent this one ASAP.

This movie was not like i expected but still was alittle good. This movie was not as good as the origanal but still had that suspense to it. Its just this kinda had that everything happen at once movie plot to it. That was a slap in the face for the horror audience out there i no. This was an ok movie i really hope Wes Craven remakes r alot better than the origanal from now on. Wes Cravens had some pritty lame stuff out now 2...lets hope thats not how the new Nightmare On Elm Street is going to be.
Being a huge fan of the original, i went in with no expectations of the remake and was pleasantly suprised.
I wouldnt say it surpasses the original by any means, however it was decent, most certainly one of the better remakes of late. Although it lacks certain elements from the original that made that film so great, it does a decent job of modernizing the story to reach a new audience and best of all, it doesnt star Scout Taylor Compton and Rob Zombie wasnt involved. Double-win.
Overall it wasnt bad, not amazing. It was what it was and there are certainly alot worse remakes that have come out recently. Very watchable.
When I was younger and movies weren't as accessible to me then as they are now, I wanted desperately to see a little flick called Last House on the Left (original). It's notoriety had me very interested. Then I saw it. Garbage. I detetest the original and that may be why I like the remake as much as I do. It's not some shoddy exploitation endeavor, but an actually film. Complete with good actors, cinematography, and a tense atmosphere throughout.

If the original is anything like this, then I was wrong to be so sceptical. This movie started off ruthless (that's the best word to use to describe this film), and after the characters are introduced, it just keeps getting worse. I loved how realistic, well, for the most part, this movie was, from the graphic kills to the acting, except Paige, Mary's friend, I didn't like her. This movie keeps you on edge for the longest time and I was shocked to learn WES CRAVEN was behind the madness. I guess that's why it was so good and so gory. This movie is well done and you can get into it pretty easy, the rating on this is awesome, but the only thing I deduct from it is the too long rape scene. Other than that, this should be the next movie you see.
GO TO BLOCKBUSTER RIGHT NOW AND RENT/BUY THIS MOVIE!

Not a complete slap in the face to fans of the original, but damned close. Many of the best elements in the original are cut out to make the film a little more mainstream acceptable, and the changes make the film less impactful and much more weak. Catch the original.
i'm new here, so try to be nice haha. i'm not usually one for remakes, and i saw the original years ago. i thought it was so fucked up but pretty good because it was so wrong. i expected the remake to be completely awful and was pleasantly surprised when it wasn't.
such a big improvement over the original, that movie is so outdated, i actually didnt like the original that much i thought it was ok at best...this remake however is awesome, probably one of my favorite horror ramakes period, so intense, brutal and creepy.
Forgive me, this review will be long. It will contain emotion and it will speak of this movie has fair as it can. But first I want to say one thing, I am proud to be wrong. I don't condone remakes because more often than not the finished article is not that remarkable. This movie has taken my preconception of remakes away. This was by and far the most singular and emotionally experience I have taken in, in a movie. The Last House on the Left is the movie of 2009, there is no bones about it.
It is not Hollywood glossed, it is not pretty, it is however disturbing, brutal and not easy on the eyes but the fact is redemption is offered at the end and it makes this experience one of the most trying I have had lately in horror.
I went into this none the wiser, afraid I had made a mistake and finished the film realising I have had an experience I won't meet again for a long time. I love the original no doubt, but I will admit here and now that the remake is far superior in so many ways.
Plot: A family of three head to their vacation home. Their daughter drives into town to meet a friend who befriends a quiet lad. Going off to his to score some drugs, things turn wrong when his family turn up and the truth emerges. Kidnapped, they are driven away and end up in a forest. After being brutally assaulted, they are left for dead as the gang come upon a house to stay during a raging storm. However events turn sinister when it emerges that they are the parents of one of the girls. Now revenge is all that's on their minds.
This is a dark tale. What made this stand out from the other is the quick way in which it establishes the story and melds together. It quickly gets to the point without losing focus and keeps our attention.
The cast, what can I say. Monica Potter and Tony Goldwyn as the parents start off kind, loving but a little distant from their daughter. But when things come to crunch, suddenly we see two parents dedicated to protecting their child and exacting revenge against those. They did fantastic jobs in their roles and pushed the boundaries of what I thought was not even possibly. They were compassionate about their roles and did a great job of not only acting the part but displaying emotions that are hard to convey across the screen.
Then there was the, I dread to use this word, bad guys. Krug played by Garret Dillahunt, Michael Bowen as Morten, Riki Lindhome as Sadie and Joshua Cox as Giles. They were vile there is no two ways about it. The way they brutalise the girls and torture them, psychically left me shaking. That one scene everyone talks of, the most brutal is truly heartbreaking. There were moments when truthfully I had to look away, it is not nice on the senses and was too graphic for my liking, but I can understand why it was an integral part to the film.
Garret Dillahunt is the nastiest of all. He shows no emotions throughout the entire affair and it left me shaking how he can be so cruel in the face of humanity. He played such cruelty well and despite how evil he was, it made it easier to despise and hope his comeuppance was long and painful but honestly a fantastic actor by all merits.
Every actor/ actress did a tremendous job. Martha MacIsaac, who is known more for her comedy roles, actually managed to play a distressed, distraught individual very well. From her first to last scene you believe in the entire conviction of her character. Then there was Sara Paxton as Mari Collingwood, this is a remarkable actress. Able to teem between strong and weak she gave 100%, in the face of adversity she still refuses to give up and she made her character one of the best in the film. I loved her and longed for things to work her way, beautiful.
Soundtrack. This truly shocked me. There were moments when the music was soft and lingering but in some of the more pivotal scenes it was not there. Scenes where you emotions took such hold that music did not need to be a factor. But when the music was there, it was never shrill or over the top but engaging. It pulled you further into the movie and was a great contribute to the movie.
Cinematography and Special Effects: The gore surrounding the victims was nothing major but in the house pitted against the parents we get to see some fantastic special gory effects. A limb being literally pulled from one of the gang in a scene involving a sink. Gunshot wounds to the head, poles skewered through bodies, it all kept a sense of realism and I never felt I was watching cheesy effects it was a great attribute and a perfect gleam to the movie. Now the cinematography. Forests in bare limbo, branches against muddied grounds, the sparkle of a lake in the wake of the sun, it all sparkled wonderfully against each other.
This is a shocking experience that needs to be seen (leave before the final scene imo) but it is dark, macabre and a hard movie to watch but the redemption & aftermath makes it worth the price of watching.
This is far better than the original!!! It improved in everyway!Acting, kills, everything! The original had a great story but sucked.Remaking this was a good move. I am not a big fan of this movie, but it deserves an 8/10 just for being a BIG improvement over the original!
Finally a horror remake that actually improves in most aspects over the original! The acting was stronger, it was more intense, fast paced and brutal. The director did a good job creating a gritty atmosphere that was the perfect match for this film. I do think though that it seemed a little rushed in some scenes and I wish they would of kept some revenge scenes from the original that made the original so shocking but it mostly surpassed it by a long shot. Don't go see this thinking you're going to see a scary movie, this is pure horrific violence that a human being is capable of doing to another human being but that itself is scary to even imagine and that makes this viewing draining and hard to watch but solid none the less. Overall this remake beats the other horror remakes in the @ss excluding My Bloody Valentine that one was good too but they're in different leagues of horror and it's the first solid theaterical released horror flick so far this year, finally! See it!
The setting was cliche, almost exactly that of The Strangers. Only difference was the rain. But the screennplay was watchable and entertaining. The mum and dad were the most awesome characters. Didnt cared much for the kids. Their part of the story was predictable.
One question.
Why is it called The Last House on the Left when Monica Potter clearly said in the movie that there was the nearest house to theirs was at least 6 miles away? So basically, their house is the only house on the left. hahaha. dumb thought.
I am the horror fan who does not like remakes at all, But this one was great! The actress who played mary was so good, She made everything so real it was messing me up watching what they did to her it was heavy to me. Only thing i hated was SADIE the actress who played her was WACK and she made every part annoying when she was in it. That is whats wrong with remakes, I hate the actors and actresses they suck. But this one was my fav remake, Except sadie. I liked the different ending too.
definately one of the better remakes ! Friday was bit of a let down after all the hype ... Last house shocked and had some good thrills .. and the fact that most of it was shot in my hood made me feel a little closer to the film ! acting was cool, and characters well cast ! ... now we\ll have to see how badly/well they do with "Freddy" !
Well I knew the last scene was coming, so I wasn't as shocked. But I do feel it would have been better if they had left it without that, as the rest of the end scene was really good.
It was very hard to watch, but I did enjoy it more than I liked the first one.
A genuine conundrum this one. Solidly directed and at times blessed with outstanding performances (Goldwyn in particular), something about it just lacked horribly. Without the subtext and palpable anger of the original or the intelligence of Irreversible (another film with a horrifyingly unwatchable rape scene) it just feels empty, like a dumb studio horror thrown confusingly out of whack by the verve with which it delivers its brutality and serving only to leave a bad taste in the mouth. The 'what would you do?' argument is given absolutely no resonance or thought whatsoever, instead it feels like the movie is on rails, offering no surprises bar a horrendously ill conceived last reel thigh slapper that Illiades and co should be ashamed of. Part of me really wanted to like this, the rest just couldn't bring itself to play ball.
first 30 mins are i know it sounds stupid to say but just boring, after that it kicks into high gear and becomes incredibly intense and difficult to watch, really enjoyed it, great ending and i agree aswell with the fact that the very very last scene did spoil the film a little bit, and it kinda felt like it was just added in at a later stage cus the film was deemed too depressing
It was a good movie but it wasnt amazing. I would have to say i prefer the original. The one thing that really bothered me was how they changed the teen age boys character. I loved his character in the original were you felt bad for me and it seemed like he was fighting with himself to do alot of the actions. I just dont like how they made him such a good character
well if you want to feel something....this film does that. you feel sympathy, empathy, disgust, anxiety, compassion, hatred, sadness, fear etc.... this film gives you the vehicle to experience so many emotions. the original film is what it is...and definitely has it's place. it's good...and in some ways, is MORE raw in some scenes than this remake...but overall the acting in this film is much better, not even comparable, in my opinion...the casting was perfect -- it was a huge improvement in storyline getting rid of the bumbling sheriffs and allowing the parents to react to the situation in a more realistic way....just overall awesome movie. loved every minute.
Completely awesome. It was literally the best horror movie i've ever seen. Although I was a little freaked by the rape scene, it gave the movie a more grounded feeling that this could really happen. I was screamin for the parents to kick some serious a@#, and they did. Cinematography was great too. Loved it all the way!
Amazing,
one of the few horror movies which has the balls to be great! Very realistic and great acting. Also this is not a rape movie no matter what church goer will have you believe. As for remakes this is in the top 3 for sure along with friday, texas and hill #1.
This movie rocked. This is a great remake. It will have you cheering on the parents as they exact their revenge on the scumbags who raped, shot and left their daughter for dead. Some of the kills were good and the microwave scene at the end was awesome and kinda sadistic.
I was overly excited after this film, I loved it. One of the best I have seen in a LONG time. My heart was racing through the entire movie, it really had me going. Truly NOT a disappointment.
I love this movie, I was very happy when I finally got to see this movie. The original is kind of boring to be honest, but this movie is just raw, in your face, hardcore. A lot of people claimed the rape scene went too far, I disagree. When you go into the movies, you should now what you're in for, it's a brutal, disturbing movie that delivers. The last good remake that took my breath away way Hills Have Eyes, I fucking adore that movie. The sequel got a bad rap but I thought it was pretty fun for what it was, it wasn't oscar worthy by any means though. Anyway, I can't wait to get my hands on this DVD!!!!
First of all, this movie did not need top be remade. It was perfect the way it was. This remake was bland, the violence was way toned down, they only parts I enjoyed was the first scene, the food processor scene, and the ending. I thought the kills were mediocre, and I just thought that the movie was filled with cheap thrills (ripping Blair's entire shirt off just to tie her hands up? They could have ripped a little piece off, or since they were in the woods they could have used anything...I thought it was a poor excuse to have a girl sitting around in her bra).
I don't recommend this movie....go see the original.
Overall it was pretty good, but I did think the violence was toned down a little too much. I kind of thought it would be shocking like the original, but overall I would recommend it
just saw this last night. i thought it was great.the kills were pretty good.again we have people crying about a remake but they still go see it anyway.whah.get over it
I finally FINALLY got to see this in the theater
after getting a day off and I must say that I wasn't disappointed in the least bit with this movie. This is certainly one of the better remakes to come out in a while. Not since Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The beginning have I enjoyed a more sweeter remake. And though I enjoy violence as much as the next psycho, the rape scene was a bit too much for me and maybe b/c it looked so friggin real! Who knows, but this movie had me cheering for the good guys all the way and glad they got their revenge. This movie is every bit as bloody and raw and completely unapologetic as they said it would be and as the original was. This is definitely one worth reccomending! They did Wes Craven justice.
A remake handled well but please don't compare it with the original - this one was a ride through Bunny park DISNEYLAND, compared to "PISS IN UR PANTS" Wes Craven Original. I felt sick after watching David Hess dish out his rape sequences, as well as sing all those beautiful songs. I consider LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT to have the best soundtracks of all times.BUT It was not a bad trip, It was a kinda An extreme rated movie in a PG 13 Shell. The Girl doesn't die, justice prevails, wimpish son stands up to his evil father and two angry parents excat revenge in goriest manner ever. It was a kind of GUNG HO Roller coaster ride with the parents literally running berserk, with no ingenuity in their kills, except for the last, which was spoilt by some overzealous teasers - 4 we all were expecting the MICROWAVE SEQUENCE. In a nutshell, in order to make horror felt, u need to make terror linger on ur flesh, which this movie fails to do - u cannot flesh out the characters - Its more like they are bad, hence they will rape and kill. Chartacters are not explored, juat abt touched but KRUG stands out - he does enuff with whatever little screen time he has. Good remake but not extraordinary. WES AND CARPENTER STILL RULE!!!!!
This story was in need of a retelling and they made it darker. All supported by a tight script and excellent acting. This film has drive, and obviously has Wes Cravens touch and seal of approval.
I wanted to like this movie but it dragged on as I waited for something more. The villans were tacky and as one character eloquently expressed, "pathetic." The music from the trailer (sweet child of mine by taken by trees) would have blended so well but was not in the movie. The only good song was at the end, (satan's circus) which seemed to taunt the fake innocence of the immaculate setting. Other than that, the movie trudges along to no beat. There are no other layers. The rape scene everyone is losing their balls for was so empty, I found myself saying, "so this girl is getting raped, so what?" there was nothing else to it; and that was the problem. Everything about the movie seemed to leave me asking, "is that it?" maybe it was the acting but more probably the directing, I felt like I was watching some trash Eli Roth film where there is nothing under the surface except more blood and gore.
Well I can't give a full review due to the fact I walked out of the theater less then 40 min into it. I hated everything I did see.... a remake of a movie I hated so I'm not surprised theat I hated this one too. But on the bright side... I got my money back lol. I give LHOTL a Zero out of a Billion, Children of the Living Dead was better!
doesnt come close to the origional by far ,but it wasnt to bad overall...accept the microwave dealy that sucked.I realy never thought this was one of those movies that ever needed remade,it was just ok for me.
Great movie. So deserving of the baddies. I loved the atmosphere, and the suspense-talk about suspense. It was well directed. and it was a good cast. i think we can agree that Sarah Paxton is not going back to Disney after this flick. i was suprised they showed her, since she used to be the Disney girl, and they didn't show the other girl. Bold move indeed. I will get this on DVD.
Absolutly loved it. I was just a great remake and a great horror movie in general. Even though it wasnt need the microwave scene was fantastic. The best thing though was the fact that there was only my girlfriend and I and 1 other couple in the theatre and when the rape scene came up the other couple in the theatre went running out of the movie. LOL
I didn't know what to expect with this, the first one was so heavy. The first one almost makes you sick with the close up brutality, for me it was the stabbing of the friend. This one does it though, it was great. the actor who played Krug nailed it, I don't think he'll be cast as anything for a while and the actor who played the son was the same kid from mystic river and he had a not so desirable role in that one too. He was both pathetic and fun to watch because you never knew what the fuck he was gonna do. The atmosphere was great, i was on the edge of my seat the whole movie and my stress levels were through the roof. Thank god someone is doing horror some justice, I just hope what follows can keep up. The only thing I didn't really like was the dead brother thing and the head in the microwave. The brother part didn't seem to go anywhere, it wasn't really necessary and the head in the microwave cheapened what was great suspence. It should have ended with the shot of the house.

this movie and F13th gives me light that "real" horror movies are comming back. enough with this Grudge and The Ring bullshit.
Krug and The Father were both fuckin awesome the mom was not so great. the chick from superbad is super hot. nuff said
last house on the left remake
Yes ther are flaws with this film the pussy son that did not even try to save eather girl from the stabbing or the rape then the parents did not do any thing to him for it yea the brother frank best kill in the whole movie tha fucked him up i am happy that they toned down the rape from the orignal to the remake the whole piss your pants thing from the orignal was fucked up it was a good movie what would u do u that happend to your kid and the people that did it where right there a whole lot more that what the parents in the film did sorry a poke as a weapon come on been there done that a base ball bat would have been a little more reasonable i think i was hoping for more gore but all arround a good movie the head gag in the end funny
Great movie. Well acted. Brutal, but not as disturbing as the original. I was on the edge of my seat the last 45 minutes of the movie. I agree with Mr. Disgusting about the ending, it was kinda corny. The movie didn't need to end that way. It would have been better if Krug had been shot by his son.
**SPOILERS**
I agree that this film was handled well, and directed to a tee, but I also felt they lost the heart of what makes this story great with the "Hollywood" ending. I saw a screening and Q&A with the two writers. Adam Alleca, the first writer attached to he project, described his original ending in which the daughter dies, and the parents take the violence too far, becoming worse then the intruders. His version had an original and compelling ending that may have left audiences upset, but dammit it would have left them thinking, and debating for days. Unfortunately the studio was scared to make a film that might actually be thought provoking, and instead opted to hire on a second writer who made quick work at dumbing down the central theme with a happy and uplifting ending. The film then became your typical family fights for survival flick. Ultimately, it works in the theatre, but is easily forgettable and probably not worth a second viewing.
This was a perfect horror film from start to finish and what a remake SHOULD be. Garret Dillahunt was FANTASTIC as Krug and Tony Goldwyn and Monica Potter were great as the Collingwoods. This film is hands down the best remake I've seen come out of horror. Five skulls!!!
I just saw this movie and I liked it very much! It made me feel so uneasy in the pit of my stomach, just like a good horror movie should. I don't understand people complaining about the rape scene, if you don't want to see something like that, then why go to this movie? Anyway, all the elements came together really well in this one, and I loved the brutal deaths throughout. Although the last one was a bit corny, I still liked the idea behind it. Sara Paxton did a great job, as did everyone else. It left me feeling emotionally drained, but very satisfied.
Wow oh wow I was getting scared becus reviews were coming in postive for this film and I was like oh man everyone loves it. Thats bad. But shit was I surprised. First up I didn't think the rape was all that brutal. I've seen a shitload worst. But it wasn't about the rape. It was about the human emotions and sufferings of what we go through which made this movie stand out. All I can say is go by what every one is saying it's worth it and it kicks the other one in the ass... and the ending oh man that ending is the best ending in any movie EVER. Kudos to the writers for that. WOW>
Awesomely tense and disturbing throughout. some acting (the chick from superbad) was awful, but overall the acting was great! I kind of wish I never saw the preview as a lot of the goods are eluded to, but all in all this one does NOT dissappoint, so all of you remake haters can go fuck cancer. (PS the ending that the review below wanted... would have SUCKED ASS. the ACTUAL ending was great.
WHAT WAS UP WITH THE STORY..SO SAD ABOUT HER BROTHER DYING...THEN all of a sudden at the end.. she has a new brother who has watched her get raped..Um..NO!
The ending was great..but..come on we need a little bit more...that was cool but if a dude raped my daughter..and i knew i was gonna kill him..I would do more than what this father did..
Loved the Movie...Story, Ending kind of weak..
Loved the MOM AND DAD!!...
ACTUALLY... I REALLY WISH THE DAUGHTER WOULD OF SET THE TIMER ON THE MICROWAVE..... THAT WOULD OF BEEN BETTER...AND THEN THE FAMILY...STANDS AROUND TO WATCH....
TAKE A LESSON..WES CRAVEN...THAT WOULD BE A ENDING,..,
Synopsis: A family takes a weekend from there stress full lives to relax at a lake house several miles from town. A group of thieves happen to be escaping from town - rape and shoot there daughter and the parents seek revenge.
Opinion: First off i have never seen the original but to me this film delivered on all fronts. I like to look at this film as having two parts with the 1st half being contrived and slow at times and the 2nd half engaging and thrilling. I also thought that it was beautifully shot and for the most part will keep the viewer entertained with some decent acting and death sequences.
Three Triumphs
1. The film was shot well
2. Great death sequences
3. Gritty feeling
Three Flaws
1. Casting of daughter
2. First half of the film - slow
3. Story of the daughter was un-engaging
Three Reasons You Should See It.
1. The end of the film
2. A refreshing American thriller of 09
3. Great directing
Three Reason You Might Avoid Seeing It.
1. Rape sequence is a sensitive subject
2. Gory
3. Lack of care for the characters and what happens to them
Big fan of the original!!So when I heard about the remake I wasnt too exited.I got a chance to see it this week-end.And I can honestly say I wasnt Dissapointed.Unlike recent remakes. This film is in no way cheesy or Lame.It has a very serious tone to it.I had mixed reviews about this film after viewing it.The first thirty minutes or so of the film seemed to drag on,But believe me it was worth the wait.It was a solid remake that had some Awsome performances.Monica Potter was awsome in this movie!!!It didnt have all the violent scenes from the original,But it was still very Brutal!! So go see it.
I went with some friends to see the movie it was a little more graphic then I expected not that it was bad but did not expect it.
My friends were squirming in the movie seats covering their faces with their jackets funny stuff.
I thought there were some pretty amusing death scenes that made the movie intresting to see the movie I would say it was pretty good movie and recommend the movie to watch.
Enough with the pissing and moaning about the rape, violence, et al. Do your dam homework and know what kind of film you're getting into. If you don't know, show up, and get offended, too bad. That's your problem, not mine. Btw, STOP BRINGING YOUR CHILDREN TO R RATED FILMS! Morons!
As for the film, I've seen the original. However, after checking the previews I had some hope that this may be decent. Turns out I'm right. Though I don't mind too many changes. It's a remake, so the SAME story doesn't need to be told TWICE.
However, the initial setup was so dumb. "Yes! This sounds great! Let's run off with some creepy-emo kid who KNOWS HIS DAD IS A FUGITIVE and smoke weed with him in his hotel room. It's okay we don't know him and we're being complete idiots. Oh, screw your mom. Do what you want and keep the car and stay overnight. We're innocent youths!" I hope I don't have daughters this dumb. I didn't feel sorry for them one damn, bit. Bah!
Anyway, 2009 is not as brutal as the original (no surprise), but it gets the job done. I don't really think one is better than the other. However, it's not a total loss and I'm willing to mark it up a 'W' in the Horror & Remake columns. Still not too sure what the deal with the last scene was though. Was kinda out of place...Interesting, but out of place. *lol*
Apparently this is the feel good family film of the year. In the theater I was sitting next to a forty something year old woman and her two elementary school aged kids. In all honesty I wanted to bitch slap this woman and let her know how shitty of a parent she was. Nothing says "family friendly" like rape, torture, and and death! Great movie though. I think I may have liked it better than the OG Last House. Maybe I should have recommended to the woman that she not miss the 'I Spit on Your Grave' remake if it is ever made.
I think it's a better film than the original, which was so dated and choppy on a technical level.
The brutality is different in this film and used more sparingly, but still feels almost as unrelenting as the original with the strong performances and direction.
This movie kicked ass!! I wasn't a big fan of the orginial, and I know people that are total remake haters. But this movie deserves a watch. I actually seen it twice this weekend. It's got great acting, direction, and it's just awesome..
I was more than pleased with this one. I was worried off top when I arrived to my Harkins Theater and saw that there was only two screens showing the film in only 2 time slots for each. Not a good sign considering how much it was advertised, but it turned out great. Good fun! I wish it would have been a little more brutal like the original in some senses, but I will be purchasing this for my DVD collection when it comes out!
Now, I haven't seen the original The Last House on the Left, but I have heard that, for its time, it was a brutal film. Fortunately, this movie was not any different. The film wasn't excessively brutal like other films of this nature, but it certainly was brutal. Now, before I really get into the actual movie, I want to describe my experience at the theater. This movie was the most interesting experiences i have had seeing a movie in theaters. However, my fellow audience members helped out with that. First off, how sick have we gotten as a human species? Every time something horrible in the movie happened, people behind me would just laugh hysterically. Even during the part Sara Paxton gets raped, people were laughing. How sick are these people? Have films like this, Hostel, and Saw degenerated our minds with all this torture going about in horror films nowadays. Secondly, has it become harder to be a parent? Are the rules to being a parent becoming more hard to follow? The reason I ask this is that there was not one parent, not two, not three, but four parents who decided they would bring their infant child to see the movie. Maybe they wanted to save money on a babysitter, but come on, you don't just bring infant children to horror movies, especially ones the display nudity and rape. That's just common sense! But, I have to admit, it was also one of the best experiences I have had at the movies. Whenever a bad guy was offed, people in the crowd were clapping and cheering, and then I started to do the same thing. I think my only problem with this movie is that some of the parts that the film tries to make out as brutal, just aren't. But, thank God, most of the film was. Considering the number of victims this film had to work with, there is a good amount of gore. Nothing over the top, but i was completely satisfied. Overall, this movie was amazing and, even though it may not be my favorite remake of the year, I certainly believe that it is the best remake of the year. Mr. D was right, this film could have fallen short, but it didn't, and did not disappoint.
The Last House on the Left is a really good remake. I think overall, it was better than the original. The stuff done to the two girls wasn't as disturbing as in the original, but the parents' revenge is a lot better and pretty intense. The acting is very good and the violence is awesome. The director did a great job with the look and feel of the movie. The last scene with the microwave was kind of cool, but unecessary. I think they should have left that out. Otherwise, this is a really good movie that I'm looking forward to seeing again.
A brutal, thrilling remake with great acting and production values: fantastic! ***SPOILER ALERT*** I was also conflicted by the tacked on ending but wanted - needed to see it. However, the way they presented it after the family flees and shot in a room that was not in house, I think it was the father "imagining" what he would have done. After, he did check his pulse when the bad guy went down for final count. He wouldn't have left if he was alive. And there's no way his wife would have let him stick the dude's head in the microwave. The movie ended with the appropriate bang (pop?).
i thought this movie worked on every level. it was gorgeous, real, brutal, heartwrenching and intense. i personally have no problems with remakes just because i believe that it will not affect the original, same case here. i do love watching the original, but i mean come on, its a bad movie. i dont know if they were going for bad irony or w.e. with the soundtrack, but it practically kills the movie. the acting in the original is fine but the characters are so comical that they were never scary! so, many blessings upon this remake. the soundtrack is amazing, as a score by john murphy would be. the acting is superb and wasn't soured by one cast member( i dont understand why some didn't like monica potter. the part where the father says that mari had been raped and the mother refuses to believe it was so heartwrnching and beautifuly acted by potter) the characters here were real and i wasnt bothered by one of their actions. the villains were amazing and were actually sinister and off putting and even pulled off sympathey sometimes. the violence was never over the top and was mostly off screen but still packed a real brutal wollop. the pacing was perfect. the look of the film was also amazing, it never felt 'movie-fied'. the lighting was natural and the settings were amazing. i do not believe this movie deserves to go under the moniker, 'torture porn'. its a movie that strives and succeeds for sympathy and doesn't go for ' hey! blood! blood! blood! awesome kills! boobs man!' to not highly recommend this movie is foolish. also, since i went into this movie anticipating the microwave scene, thanks to the reviews, it was kinda ruined for me. but either way, it didnt bother me at all. i dnt feel it was just tacked on. i especially loved the way they segued into it. before the scene even starts you see the family gettin away on the boat, than it nicely makes its way back in time to see what really happened to krug. sure, maybe its a suspension of disbelief scene, but every horror movie makes u do that and i believe it was nicely used here. especially since krug is such a bastard, why not give him a nice send off. SEE THIS MOVIE, multiple times!!!
i saw it last night. i thought it was okay. better than most hollywood remakes but it seemed kind of overly long and the ending felt tacked on so there'd be a big finish. the rape scene was really uncomfortable though. theatre got very quiet during it.
In a way i was kinda disappointed but over all I enjoyed it. I felt that it was as bloody and gory as everyone said it was. I do feel that Tony Goldwyn was the reluctant hero in the film and he did pretty well playing his character. In my opinion I feel that if your not a true horror fan then you'll enjoy the film but if you are then you will be somewhat disappointed. Over all its a good popcorn flick.
As I sit here reading all these reviews, it can't help but roll my eyes at some of them. "the brutality and viciousness of this movie was uncalled for!........ I don't know anyone in their right mine who would want to watch two kids get beat, tortured, and THEN RAPED! I was disgusted " (Jason4eva).....Dude did you not watch the original? did you not know what you were going to be watching? The film had to be brutal, and the violence against these two girls had to be so hard so that the parents would loose any form of mercy, compassion, or mercy for these degenerates.
The movie was amazing, it was raw and real, and made no apologies for it. The acting was superb, after the emotional roller coaster these 4 criminals put you through, you can't help but cheer as their getting murdered one by one. The violence was over the top but it fit right in with the tone of the movie. (except for the microwave scene) The movie was near perfect! I hope to see more films Dennis Iliadis. I loved this movie!!!!!!!!!
I went into the movie really wanting to love it. I thought it was really well done, well paced and well acted. However, the way the parents dealt with the "bad guys" at the end left a lot to be desired. For some reason the parents seemed scared to want to hurt them. For example, the mother in the kitchen. She had access to knives and you think it might even go the way of the original. Nope. Hits the guy over the head with a wine bottle and runs. Lame. The only good part was the last minute and that seemed like it was added after a test screening when people must have said something about there being no revenge.

Okay, This movie was slow in the beginning. And tried very hard at having a good plot before heads were cut off and limbs were lost. The second half of the movie was awesome. (Just like the original)
The plot starts with a young girl and her stupid best friend. For some reason, They decided to cast the girl who the movie centers around with the ugliest actress they can find. I'm assuming Joan Rivers was too busy with the celebrity apprentice to take this role. I will refer to this chick as ugly throughout the review. This chick took off her clothes to reveal a two piece bikini. You could literally connect the dots with all her hairy moles and reveal a portrait of Maggie Gyllenhaal.
The worst thing about going to see this movie were the women in the audience. Clapping and cheering everytime both female lead characters did something semi positive. (And yes, I'm counting Justin as one of them. You'll hear more about him later.) It was extremely annoying. I'm actually writing my letter to Obama now. You people shouldn't be allowed to vote anymore. We tried it, we gave you some time.. But it's just not going to work. Stay in your kitchens and do not go to the 7:20 show on opening night at Westbury Stadium!!
Okay, back to the review..
A band of thugs rape and brutalize these girls. They are complete assholes. Especially the head asshole's younger son, Justin. This little bitch tried to be the good guy. The emo kid who never does anything wrong. He stood up against his father and refused to take part. So he watched and cried. He did nothing. He sobbed and sniffled, and these idiot women in the crowd are like "Alright Justin!! YAY!!" and they clap there stupid asses off.
Hey morons, The guy sat back and watched these two girls get raped and murdered!! He did nothing! If this happened in real life he'd be charged as an ACCESSORY!!
Do you morons know what this is?
An accessory is a person who assists in the commission of a crime.
Sigh.
Not only that, but this poor girl's parents agree with the idiots in the audience! Poor Justin had nothing to do with it. Let's let him live and slaughter everyone else.
If this movie was about me getting owned by hairy dudes, my dad would have killed Justin, And that's why I'm rating this movie 1 out of 5 hairy moles.

Before I went to see the remake, I rented the original to see if it was good. I liked the original, even though it was kind of gross. A couple months later, the remake comes out, and I went to see it yesterday. I thought the film itself was WAY MORE disturbing then the original, and more hard hitting. It was very hard for me to watch certain scenes, because I just thought they were just too disturbing. Overall, I enjoyed the movie, and when it comes out to DVD, I will definetly rent it to watch it again.
Wes Craven chose the right directors for this movie. The script was well written and that same sick and twisted feeling showing the insecurities of females remained the same, along with the cruel personalities of the criminals. There was about nothing wrong with this movie at all and was one of the best remakes that I've ever seen. I was very happy with the ending, with the nice music that turns violent when the house is shown again. Thank you, Wes Craven, for the original script for this film! =)
Overall, I'd give this film a 9/10.
I love horror movies, they are my passion.... but I hated this movie! The cast was amazing but the brutality and viciousness of this movie was uncalled for! I know people look at us as freaks and devil worshiper's and shit but I'm not! And I don't know anyone in their right mine who would want to watch two kids get beat, tortured, and THEN RAPED! I was disgusted and the only reason I continued to watch the trash was because I wanted to see the parents kill these mother fucker's! It's different when you watch something like the hills have eyes those are not really people and these were! Doesn't make me feel good about humanity and really I guess I didn't need a realization of our news! People if you've been in any kind of situation like this...Don't see this movie! No it's not as the as the 1972 version but it still messes with your head and disturbes the hell out of you! stick to Jason Vorhees or Michael Myers or Harry fucking Warden....those are good time horror flicks! I don't even consider this a horror film, but I don't know what u would call it!
I thought this renake was very well done. I am in agreement that the microwave scene was a little out of place. One thing that bothers me about thriller/horror/revenge/ torture flicks in general is the utter lack of suspicion and total trust that the protagoists always have toward the villains. I know thats what it takes to set up a film like this but I would like to see a little better level of self protection. That was one thing I hated about Funny Games...utter helplessness and trust by the affluent sheep.
Fireplace Pokers and kitchen knives need to be retired in favor of tasers, handguns, pepper spray, folding knives, etc.. The victims in these movies are just that...pre-made victims.
Other than my rant on the genre in general I thought this was a very good movie. Well acted, suspenseful and seemed to move pretty well. There were very few slow or boring parts and any parts that were slow were used to set up the more sinister. Overall a good movie and I would recommend it to those that enjoy this type of film.
In regards to the comment made by HorrorFan25: If you consider movies like SAW to be 'hardcore' and of an excessively graphic nature...You haven't seen SH*T yet. Do yourself a favor so you can live up to your username, go out and rent the following films (if you can even find them): August Underground's MORDUM, Tumbling Doll of Flesh, Cannibal, and Flower of Flesh and Blood. Come back and let me know how you define "GORE". ;-)
To me this movie was way better than the original which did not disturb me at all. Sara Paxton was a great actress and played Mari very well...is wasn't as gory as I expected it to be....the best thing about this movie to me was the score!! All the music fit perfectly with everything...I loved the music when Mari was swimming in the lake at the beginning, when Paige was running through the woods, and especially when they had the car accident...But while the score did help me enjoy the movie a lot more I feel like it would have been better if they had just decided to take out the part where the parents took revenge and focus on Mari juat trying to survive...I didn't enjoy this as much as the my bloody valentine remake and the friday the 13th remake this movie was still realy good!!!
Deaththrasher, why in the hell would you rate a movie so low when you havent seen the damn thing? You know that brings the overall rating down. Its fine if you saw it and didnt like it but dont rate it if you havent. This is for REVIEWS. For making comments, go to the boards.
I DID however see it and i thought it was so much better than it had any right to be. They did a great job and it goes in the "Great Remakes" pile.
The last house on the left is one of the most brutal and grotesque films I've seen in quite a while. It's upsetting and highly difficult to watch. The film guides you through reality such as rape, violence, and terror. If you have a weak stomach or can't handle horror films, you'll probably faint seeing this movie, literally. While that being said this is a brilliant and well made remake.
The last house on the left is about two teenagers who go out with this guy to smoke pot and have fun. Although the guy's family are a bunch of psychopaths, especially the father, who is a psychopath. The girls are raped and brutally assaulted and the guy's father unknowingly seeks help in Mari's house, the girl who is tortured. Now the parents of Mari discover the truth and gruesomely pick off these victims one by one, for revenge.
This movie left me feel uneasy and simply disturbed. I haven't seen a movie this brutal or difficult to view in a long time. This is coming from a gore hound who has seen "Saw" and plenty of grotesque films. People be forewarned, there is a brutal rape. This was probably the #1 scene that made me feel squeamish and queasy. This scene is quite prolonging and is so realistic you may faint seeing this scene.
The violence here is extremely brutal and over-the-top. The actor all act in pain and agony. While playing likable and admirable characters. I cannot believe how much material, the film got away with and not garner an NC-17. I mean we are talking about people stuck in garbage disposals, people hacked with hammers, people stabbed repeatedly with a knife, people being shot, and people being hit in numerous and graphic ways.
I must say this was a well made film. The experience was so real that I actually felt like I was in a situation like that. The movie sends a positive message while being brutal and very upsetting. Fans of the original, will not be disappointed, because the material here isn't watered down. I actually think they tripled the body count and the blood splatter. See The last house on the left if you love horror movies, are a gore hound, love Wes Craven and Sean S. Cunningham, or if you simply like realistic films.
This film is one remake that really outshines the original. The acting is solid and the film is shot very well. The story stays close to the original with a few minor changes that give the film more value. The new Krug (Garret Dillahunt) is extremly sadistic and heartless. The sadism of his attack on Mari (Sara Paxton) is very real and disturbing. I didn't care for (Martha MacIsaac) in the film Superbad, but shes does a pretty good job at portraying Paige Last House. You get a sense of her frightned state and feel sympathy for her just as you do the same and more some, for Mari. There is plenty of blood for the gorehounds and is used in just the right places through out the film.
Overall I this was a film that was made to make the viewer feel uncomfortable while watching and it succeeds in doing so.
Being a person that just saw the original Last House about a year ago. I thought wow what if they re-made this? Personally I'm not a huge fan of remakes, but this film I think needed one. It starts off with a bang (literally) and doesn't let up. It has great character development, excellent suspense, and had me asking myself: "What would I do?" Great. That's really all I can say.
DeathrasheR why would you rate a movie and give a review if you didn't see it? STOP COMPLAING the movie rocked and RZ Halloween also rocked. 3 great remakes in a row (RZ Halloween, Friday the 13th & Last House on the Left).
I don't like the idea of this being remade at all. I'm sure lots will think it's better then the 1972 release. You can never replace David Hess. Just like Rob Zombie's Halloween with Donald Pleasence part being played by Malcolm McDowell. He did not pull it off with me {and as much as I love A Clockwork Orange}. Please stop remaking these films because I feel Actors these days can't even pull off their clothes right. As much as people hate rape scenes, I see no justice for the ladies in the real world. So get over RAPE in a film. It's only a movie...... Maybe if they called it part 2 or 3 maybe 4 I would have gone to the movies to see it. I'll just wait to see it for free. 0 star's for you shouldn't have made it. Maybe I'm wrong about the film, if I don't call it The Last House on the Left it might be OK.
Wes Craven did it again. No other movie has made me feel that pit deep in my stomach like this one did. The look, the sound, the feel of this movie was just perfect all around
Mr. Disgusting is a giant fucking pussy LMAO! The microwave scene rocked, and in case you didn't notice stupid, IT'S A REVENGE FLICK! The audience is supposed to walk away feeling good that the villains are dead. DUMBASS.
When a horror movie is truly good, one begins feeling uneasy. This is the case with Last House on the Left. Iliadis perfectly combines horrific sequences with a soothing score. There is no massive bass in the music, instead we get a soft Disney-like tune that heavily contrasts the graphic sadism being shown. The film also has a lot of the violence happen during daytime, which is a good thing. I'm sick and tired of watching everything happen at night. The colors are vivid, the camera moves are regular (not fast paced or shaky), and all of this makes this really creepy.
Great remake. The audience was with it the whole time, gasping, hollering, clapping and cheering. I don't care about the ending, it felt good to put him through that situation.
Not as much torture as the original, but this one got to the point as fast as it could within a little under 2 hours.
I'd place it as one of the better horror remakes we've had in the last 10 years.
Just got home from seeing this film and I must say--I am impressed. Great cinematography, okay acting and just kill scenes. Worst part for me was the rape scene but every woman was squirming I'm sure. Parents kicked ASS and rightly so. Last scene should have been with the piece of shit guy getting it in the ass with a hot fire poker!! Karma indeed!!
all in all, great.
Can't wait for "Haunting in Conn"!!
FINALLY!! a great remake.. the best remake in my opinion.. after seeing a bunch of horrible and so so remakes i was losing hope.. hills have eyes, tcm, friday the 13th, amityville horror. lhotl delivered in every aspect.. could this actually be better then the original? I'd say yes
Just got back from seeing another so-so remake. Yeah it was good in parts, and the camera was actually steady for a horror movie! I couldnt believe how many kids were in the theater for this type of a hard R rating and the number of kids lined up for the next showing. Oh well. Overall not a bad flick, brutal as it should be, but I agree with other reviewers definetly not as brutal or graphic as the original classic. Nothing will ever be better than the mother in the original giving the uncle a bj and then biting his crank off and them actually showing it! Ahh 70's horror, where have you gone? Actors were very good, story was good with setting up a little more back story with the escape from police and how Mary was an excellent swimmer, but still didnt have the gritty feel of the original. I was waiting for Tony who played the dad to become more psychotic as he has been in past movies but he never did. There were more than a few people actually leaving during the disturbing rape and torture scenes towards the girls. A bunch of people yelled to those leaving "What did you expect from a remake of Last House on the Left" and some other remarks about they should at least have a little knowledge about what the films about and if not dont blame the theater. The ending I agree was very cheesy, I was waiting for the dad to get medevil on his butt after he paralyzed him but just wham bam, stick your head back, boom, credits roll. Our theater had a lot of people cheering and clapping at the end as well. I wo
I always laugh when I see how stupid critics react to these type of films. Richard Crouce bashed this film and the origional much like Ebert did say the TCM sucked because it was too groutesque and brutal. With films like these what the hell does anyone expect, it's not going to be about weddings or carebears! I can't wait to see it.
Wow, great movie. It actually did what remakes are supposed to do which is improve on its source material. It's no question that this is a far better film and even more effecting on an emotional level than the first one. Kudos to Potter, Paxton and Goldwyn for some incredible genre performances and congrats to newcomer director Dennis Iliadis who has become a master of horror with only one film. Great stuff I'm on my way to see it again.
Great film... I'd say the only weakness is the casting of Mari and Paige, although Sara Paxton's acting during some scenes was great. My only other complaint is the microwave scene... possible the most idiotic ending to a film ever.
This is one of the most disturbing and vicious horror movies I've seen in a long time. I loved every second of it, especially the last half hour or so where the revenge begins. Everything about this movie was flawless...the acting (especially Sara Paxton), the suspense, the kills, the music, the directing, etc. This movie is a nonstop thrill ride from start to finish, and I can't wait to see it again. 10/10 for sure.
This was stinking awsome!! I loved every minute of it, I was tense throughout the entire film. When i seen the rape scene I was furious but being a disturbing scene it led up to you cheering on the parents as they took upon themselves to extract revenge. And one of my favorites scenes ever to be captured on film was the part in the kitchen, The one with the sink!!! Loved that!! Aaron paul was fantastic being the victim in this part. A big thank you to the entire cast/directors/producers and espically Wes Craven for an excellent job, if they are reading the reviews then thank you
MINOR SPOILERS**************
WOW, this was a very kickass movie. It is very uncomfortable sitting through the beginning with the girls being beaten and raped, but wow, when the parents take over, they really beat the hell out of them. At this point in the film, after being emotionally down, it is nice to have a good lift. Our theater clapped.
very interesting fucking gri8t horror waiting for Movie.. Loved it and keep it this way Always..with Wes Craven NO MERCY

Wes Craven and Sean Cunningham have taken a cue from any of those DIY home refurnishing shows and spruced up their Last House On The Left with director Dennis Iliadis serving as foreman. For the most part, it's a success and a better film than the original.
The thing I'm most interested in seeing is how the megaplex audience will react to it. The original was made specifically for the drive-in circuit, so the fact that this is getting such a wide release to such a mainstream audience has me curious. It's certainly not Friday the 13th, MBV 3D or any other "fun" Slasher movie, so I've a feeling a lot of people are going to be a bit disappointed after seeing this.
The cast, from Sara Paxton to Riki Lindhome to Tony Goldwyn, is incredible. They all bring their A Game and it shows. In fact, Tony Goldwyn should be in every single movie made from now on.
Overall, I liked it. It hits all the right marks and pushes all the proper button to be an effective and shocking film that has been on my mind since seeing it a couple weeks ago here in Chicago.
Hey JohnMarrone, I was there too at Tribeca last night. I loved it! Not only were the actors great, and the kills gory, but the score was amazing too. For me, it was a complete package. I left that theater so satisfied, it was not even funny. I will definitely see it again and again. I highly recommend it.
Just saw this at Tribeca in NYC. Have to say, it was different than I thought. Director used the elements of the story and made it his own. Not very brutal - doesnt kick you in the stomach like the first one - but its a fresh take on the home invasion/torture film, and a great stand alone revisioning of the film while leaving the original intact. For the most part - except for those hoping to have their mind cracked by brutality - success.
Brutal? This movie was not brutal.
Maybe after one too many horror films - or the fact I live in one of the most violent cities in Mexico, quite probably the world - have made me insensitive to violence. The original was more disturbing even by today's standards.
Nevertheless, it was a very well shot movie and for the most part very well acted - other than the mother, everyone was spot on. The story is solid, the setting credible - alas, except for the microwave, that was just put in there for laughs and to have the audience cheering at the end.
Yet I feel the original one has a lot more significance in the history of cinema. It was a movie that pushed the boundaries of what could be put on screen. A depraved movie, sweetly playing just above the thin line between art and exploitation. You could really see the parents turn into wild animals in Craven's one.
This is just another horror film. A good one, yes, but not brutal or nothing to write home about.
Want something brutal? Watch Eden Lake. Want a horror movie that will make your girlfriend squirm without her looking at you like you're a psycho for liking horror movies? Then Last House on the Left remake is okay.
loved it! the acting was great, sara paxton did a great job. that rape scene was so disturbing, and so realistic, it really gave me chills. the parents kicked ass, and the movie was brutal! another great remake that surpasses the original
i just got home from the advance midnight screening of LHotL and i can honestly say this "remake" was sheer PERFECTION! it seems someone in "Horror"wood finally got it right!! congratulations to Wes, Dennis, and the entire cast involved in this film!! =)
