First of all let me just say - this isn't the same movie as Bob Clark's. This is a remake by name and season alone. If you love the original, then great. Don't try to compare the movies because one will always be suprior to the other and that's not what reviews are about. The original is a classic and the one that started of the slasher movie sub genre. Rate this movie on its own merits, not as a remake but as a completey different movie.
Right, onto the movie. I actually really enjoyed this film. I don't watch horror to be scared (because I really don't scare) and I don't watch them to be disgusted. I watch horrors to have a fun little ride for an hour and a half, to have a laugh, some good kills and a serial killer that stays with you.
This movie delivers on all counts. The kills were gory and very fun, the cast was beautiful and very well matched, having a cast of leading ladies kept the tension turned up and the backstory was a nice touch. The other thing I really liked was the fact that the characters actually took sensible decision throughout the movie, and the characters were solid.
The use of the christmas lights was brilliant too, giving the whole movie a sickly red/orange glow.
I wasn't too fussed about having two killers because it basically meant more death, which was fine by me.
Sure the film isn't a classic and it's not going to live on as a defining moment in horror cinema, but it is a good, fun romp and definitely worth seeing if you like your kills gory and your killers fucked up!
:D

This is no where near as good or scary as the original and a lot of it was boring but overall I liked it! The girls were great especially Katie Cassidy.(although suprised her and Mary Elizabeth didn't switch roles)And the always lovely Lacey Chabert although not a big enough part.As the movie went the better it got.The ending rocked! Overall its just a fun gory slasher to not be taken seriously so if u like that check it out.

Terribly boring movie!!! A waste of time and money
OMG! How could you not love this film. Sure it is nowhere near as scary and original as the first film, but it is so surreal and captures the the holiday well. Its funny, dark, gross, and beautiful to look at. It is completly over the top and I love it.
I'm not going to Compare this to the Original for it's been a few Years since I've seen the Original and wouldn't make a good comparison, so I'm judging this one merely on its own accord. To put it plain and simple, this movie "Bites" and not in a good way either! The "incest" storyline was pure B.S.! Having the Killer have a Sister/Daughter help him was just Stupid! Especially when they dressed the Actor up like a Ugly Transvite looking of a Girl! I mean lets be real here, at least hire a Ugly Actress for the Role "any takers"? Also the ending didn't make a lick of sense. This Movie was very Upsetting for I really had Higher Expectations for it, but in the end, it merely felt like getting a BlowJob and somewhere along the way, You get your Dick Bit Off! Ouch!!!
Terribe. Aboslutely terrible. I'm not even going to give this film the satisfaction of writing a long revi

I've never seen the original, so I'm going to review it as it's own movie, instead of from it's original material.
Out of all the remakes of the past 6 years, this is one of my favourites. The deaths were actually quite brutal (in some ways, at least), and I thought that the acting was decent. That at least warrants 7 stars.
This remake is far more entertaining than the original! In the original, the story is great, but the kills suck(And we don't even see blood or gore!)! In the remake, yes the kills are always the same, but at least its gory! One more thing, the remake is different than the original, which is a good thing.
too bad everyone has to hate a remake just cause they loved the original so much. if you realize that this is not the same movie that came out 35 years ago, you'll realize this isn't a bad movie. sure there are better slashers, but there are also far worse.
This is one of my top 10 worst films EVER. Even if you ignore the fact that the original is AMAZING and this can't even come close to it, the killers (yes, Billy's in-bred sister comes to kill the hot sorority chicks with him) don't look intimidating in any way whatsoever. I think what pisses me off the most is that a new generation of horror fans never even knew there was an original and now may be reluctant to see it because this one was such crap. This movie really grinds my gears.
Ok... let me brace myself and try not to go nuts while thinking about this movie. Just give me one second... ok... ready? here goes. First off I will start this review by stating the obvious fact that the original Black Christmas (yes kiddies this is a remake) is one of my favorite movies of all time. If you want to know more about the original, please see my review on it. That said, this movie is kind of tough to review for a few reasons. As a remake to the original this movie fails fails fails, badly... really badly. This movie sucks and while I was watching it in the theatre I started to get nervous thinking I might lash out and throw my cinema snacks at the big screen in front of me. While I was watching this film I felt like someone with tourettes trying my hardest not to spew out profanities every two seconds. Yes folks, this movie was awful and if you happen to be a fan of the original then I beg you not see this as it may result in you commiting suicide. Now let's try an experiment. Let's pretend that this wasn't a remake and let's pretend for a second that this was just another teen slasher flick with a completely different name. If this were the case I might be inclined to enjoy it. Of course I am a big fan of the slasher genre so it's hard for me to hate even the worst slasher film, but honestly if this wasn't trying to be a remake it would make for a BEARABLE little slasher flick. Oh yeah but to make it BEARABLE we would also have to pretend that they didn't make the killer all yellow looking... it just looked stupid and it didn't need to be there. Actually... no... I can't do this... THIS MOVIE SUCKED. DON'T SEE IT. IT'S TRASH. IT'S WORSE THAN TRASH IT'S ONE OF THE WORST PIECES OF CINEMA EVER.
This is such trash. How it was a rating of 6 from both BD and the users is beyond me. Aside from being an insult to the original film, it's just plain a agony to watch. I felt like Alex from a Clockwork Orange being forced to view this train wreck of a movie. Oh man, and once they go to the hospital for the climax? Fucking a! Don't even get me started. I think this movie will turn you retarded if you aren't prepared.
bit crap TBH not as good as the original and it sorta went out there in the end not a film i will watch again

OK, this version explained more than the original but seriously.... I could've done without the incest backstory. Was that really necessary? Yeah, it "made my skin crawl", so I guess it's not "on too tight". LOL, but seriously, it was gross and needless.
I own the unrated version. I like it it is a good slasher. I've nnever seen the original but I heard it was good. IT could have been much creepier though and the calls fro obscene.

Black Christmas isn't scary. Black Christmas isn't a good movie. So why such a high rating? Simply because Black Christmas is fun. I thought the kills were awesome because they were very gory and down right hilarious. All the chicks were pretty hot and it was funny to see them get killed. All I expected from Black Christmas was to be entertained and I was. Of course, Black Christmas isn't scary and is no where near a good movie. But even haters can't deny it, it was fun.
While nowhere as good as the original its still entertaining. I'm a hardcore slasher fan and even I am a bit judgmental when its comes to slashers. This movie is fun, has some great gore gags and its easy on the eyes. Its nothing new or mind blowing but it has some moments and as a Christmas slasher movie (something we dont have to much of) its better than most.
Silly sorority girls, beer bong expertise and trained flexibility in the back of SUV's will not save you from yellow skinned cannibals. The movie isn't mindblowing by any means, but a pleasurable watch all the same.

It was truly gory and I did actually gag at one point which is rare for me. It was an interesting movie and I like it overall but I'm looking to see the original for comparison.

flawed, kind of boring. still fun. watch the original.
I really enjoyed this, and I think it's incredibly underrated. The acting is fine (not great, but fine), the special effects are great and I really enjoyed the campy, over-the-top nature of the deaths and just the film in general. It took me back to the films of the '80s.
Compared to the original this is a piece of SHIT but it does haves good horror, bloody, gory and scary scenes like when the killer rips the eyes of his victims or when the tree with the eyes of the victims appears. But also theres good directing but the horrific acting was so bad except for Andrea Martin,Mary Elizabeth, Winstead Who is the best of them AND DIES WHO WAS REALLY ANNOYING)Crystal Lowe,Michelle Trachtemberg and Lacey Chabert but all the other actors and actresses sucked balls specially katie cassidy who was also really annoying that she survived the film.Thats not just the bad thing, but when you listen the music score of the film you will start laughing or your ears will bleed for such bad music score of the film.Anyway its worth the renting.
I thought that this was an awesome holiday slasher! To me, it's better than the original, mostly because I saw this first, then found out about the original. I love that it takes place on Christmas Eve and the Christmas scenery and killings. I love the killer's back-story and show that he baked Christmas cookies out of his mom's flesh! (SWEET!) I would really love to see BLACK CHRISTMAS 2!!!
I liked this movie. Yes it was quite dumb but it was fun to watch. The deaths were gory, but some could be seen from miles away. It seemed that there were to many characters with the story about billy's family and how he escaped the mental hospital, and someone seemed to be dying every 2 minutes. But it is enjoyable to watch!
for me, i loved the movie. it was so sick and twisted of a slasher which there arent many out there. the only problem was that, at times, it tried to be like scream which pissed me off. for example, it try to make a who-is-the-killer thing goin on. the other thing that i didnt like about the movie wasn't suspenseful enough. u can tell they tried to hard on that department. but other than that i loved it
I really didn't care for this but the redeeming factors for me were the use of color and the direction. Throughout the whole film there was a surrealism created through all those colored lights. The direction also kept up the surrealism. I would have preferred that be where the surrealism ended.
I absolutely hated that they wasted 20 minutes in the beginning with such obvious exposition. As they say in the musical Urinetown, "Nothing can ruin a show more than too much exposition."
I don't want to know who the killer is in the beginning. I don't think I should know initially unless it's a sequel.
It also just seemed rushed. I don't have ADD, I can stand for some story and character development. In this movie each girl got like one line to define her. I don't even think there were many stereotypes to help define them.
This was a great slasher flick. It had tons of gore and the characters were stupid and just got killed one by one. Your typical slaher flick. But for some reason I really liked this movie though. I dont usually see horror movies take place during christmas and I think its cool. There needs to be more movies like that. Silent Night Deadly Night was another example of how they make a horror movie on christmas.
Without a doubt one of the worst films ever made. There is nothing redeemable about this hack-job. Bob Clark's original is so wonderful, only to be spit at by this atrocity. This film's only saving grace is watching one of the most annoying female casts in history take dirt naps, and gives you hope that one day you might be able to write/direct/act a film better than this. I can't recommend this in any capacity. It's not even bad-funny. There are movies out there that make you feel the physical sensation of hate... this is one of them.
I brought this dvd 2day and I enjoyed this movie!! had gore and had tons of actresses i knew about!!! This movie was quick and is terrifyingly realistic. a good movie 2 watch when christmas eve night is 2 quiet.
The trailer made me excited to see this, but it was a huge disappointment. Unlike the original, which is way better, the remake has no suspense or tension. All that happens is the girls go off by themselves one by one, and they die. There isn't any chase scenes or anything. Also, in the uncut version, the girl from Buffy the Vampire Slayer gets her head chopped off because one of the killers throws a pair of ice-skates at her. They also should have left out the female killer who looks like a gorilla. Whenever she appeared on the screen I started cracking up. This movie is terrable, and even funnier to watch than the deer scene in The Ring 2.
