Not much to say about this one besides the fact that I would not advise anyone to watch it as it was a pretty bad remake with only 1 great scene where someone gets killed in a pretty cool way. Nothing else to say I would just skip it and go watch Martyrs

this was more of a thriller, but having Sean Bean as the killer was perfect casting. Either him or Jack Nicholson would've been fine because they're both intimidative.

still, this was a good movie, and that's that!

Fun

It was alright and kind of entertaining. It had its moments but its still nothing special. Sean Bean did make a good serial killer.

A great remake. Wonderful soundtrack, nice climax, beautiful cast and suspensful. Kudos.

It's good but a but not something special

it was okay not as good as i thought it would be

This movie deserves a better rating. It's thrilling, the acting is fairly good, the story actually makes sense, and the cinematography was quite good. Definitely should rent this or buy it.

I've heard alot of mixed thoughts about this movie. but i liked it, it was fine. I don't think it should have been called "the hitcher remake" because this movie had really nothing to do with the original, they pretty much just took the storyline and made it their own movie and forgot to kind of stay true to the original. Maybe people would of liked this movie alot more if it had nothing to do with the original, but i thought is was ok.

the only good bit was when the boyfriend got pulled apart...otherwise ive seen more thrilling stuff then that in my toilet!!

God what a piece of shit. Even for diehard horror fans like myself who watch literally EVERYTHING that comes out, this was painful to watch. The original is a nice creepy little film with some great performances. This remake? Awful. You will literally be BEGGING for the main characters to die a slow and painful death. Completely unlikable characters, and unbelievably stupid. Some of the dumbest characters I've ever seen in a horror film, and that's saying something. Seriously, you have a LOADED GUN pointed at the maniac's face while he's threatening to tear your boyfriend in half. WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU WAITING FOR?! SHOOT HIM! But no, instead she decides "Why shoot him when I could cry as he kills my boyfriend?!" Moron.

Avoid this film like the plague. One of the worst movies of any genre I've ever seen, and that's coming from someone who has actually enjoyed most of the Platinum Dunes remakes. This on the other hand just makes me want to vomit all over myself in disgust. Give me 20 bucks, a camcorder, and anyone who's acted in a school play and I'll make you a better horror film.

I did truely enjoy this movie... Sean Bean fans get ready he portrays a pyshco beautifully and it is nice to watch him and if your me, you cheer for him as is torments and murders... I enjoyed this one over the remake mainly because its make much more sense to kill the guy and torment the girl, at least in my eyes... This movie is tense, violent, and interesting. I personally recommend expecially Sean Bean fans...

I thought this was a good remake.

The Hitcher isn't terrible, it has it's bright spots, but too many lows.

Posted By: Screamer at 4:58pm, March 14, 2009

I gave this movie another viewing last night and I just can't seem to get into this one. Maybe cause of the fact that they try too hard to make the villian creepy, and he just isn't. Also, very unrealistic in the way that he kills every single cop at the station and on the road. And every townsfolk he encounters.
It isn't a terrible movie, but it is just too ridiculous to really like. An okay fun watch with some friends but that is it.

This movie wasn't anywhere as good as the original. Sean Bean as the hitcher was a decent choice, but the movie was just horrible as a whole. Rutger Hauer's hitchhiker was just plain vicious in a calm psycho way while Bean's was just plain psycho. I didn't like his fly off the handle moments, it just didn't fit, unlike Hauer's character who was so calm it was scary. The semi scene in this one was no where near as good as the original. I remember when I first saw the original I thought how cool it would have been to see Jennifer Jason Leigh's character getting torn apart, but as I watched it as years passed I was glad I didn't because it was just nasty thinking about rather than witnessing it. It comes down to the fact that this movie sucked on all levels, and if you really want to see the better of these two films stick with the original. Also, stay away from The Hitcher 2, it should have never been made.

The Hitcher is a good remake caught at a bad time. Although this is a entertaining film i think people are starting to get sick of these remakes. I have no problem with them but when you look at their performence in the box office they suffer. I love seing an original film and so do alot of others. When company’s stop putting their money into these remakes we will get some original thrillers. I mean i’m in anticipation for Friday The 13th (2009), A Nightmare On Elm Street (2010), and the rumoured Roesmary’s Baby, butwhat people want to see is new films, not ones predictable and oldish. By oldish i mean things that feel like DeJaVu. When watching this there was one film that stood in my mind because this is so like it. Jeepers Creepers. The only thing different really is that in this the creature is a serial killer.
The plot is basically the same as the original with added dialogue, and gore. I could tell that they wore hoping for the same-style feel by just how much it was like it’s preceeder. The plot has some suspense but as a horror flick it has satisfied me.
The acting is average with Sophia Bush as the “final girl”. She is believable but in some scenes she was terrible. Sean Bean is such a good killer. He pulls off the scary, killer look so well and i would’ve left him on the side of the road aswell.
Overall it’s a straight-out horror flick built on gore, and thrill scenes, but with more suspense my rating would be higher. My rating is 3/5

This movies is Great, Horrific, Scary, and has action in it.... a few of the greater reasons why this movie is awesome... But if you saw every other horror movie before this one then you might not think big of it.... There are scenes where it gets to "expected" like the Motel bit.... THAT remined me of Vancancy, but it was kinda obvious that the killer took the boyfriend somewhere.... so of course, after the killer tries to attack the girl, she gets her gun and searches for her lover... only to find that he's in a hard to get out of situation.
So i rate this movie because it was great, but needed some different ideas.

Unbelievable. Not the good unbelievable either.

Posted By: Jacques at 2:38pm, January 13, 2009

I just don’t care anymore. I don’t even know why I’m writing this review.

After you’ve seen every slasher ever made, seen them remade, seen modern slashers, seen slashers that claimed they weren’t slashers, seen countless modern “bring back the old days of horror!” slashers . . . who really cares anymore? It’s one thing to complain about the lack of originality in cinema, but it’s a completely different thing to complain about the ridicules overabundance of movies that are EXACTLY the same in every way. And what’s worse is that every one of these movies seem to think they’re some sort of original idea. Listen to audio commentaries: directors have a mentality that because THEY made the movie, it’s magically superior to the others exactly like it. They also know that if they can churn out another 80s homage or remake, they’ll be rich, because it’s an unwritten falsehood that every single horror fan must love, watch, and appreciate every piece-of-crap slasher ever made, or they’re not “A True Horror Fan”. But if a director is “A True Horror Fan”, wouldn’t he want to further the genre with original ideas instead of basking in the nostalgia of crappy slashers gone past? My point is, there is no need for The Hitcher. Or the thousands of other movies just like it. If you want a truly good slasher, check out the original Black Christmas.

The Hitcher is directed like a Hollister commercial. Primary colors are everywhere, with hollow, flat, fresh-faced prep kids running around for most of the runtime. There is a generic killer with generic motives. The acting isn’t good and it isn’t bad—how hard is it to ask collage kids to play politically correct collage kids? The cinematography is fun and colorful and gives everything a plastic sheen, as with all Michael Bay-produced slasher remakes. The pacing is average. I don’t think I would call this boring as much as I would call it just downright uninteresting. You know in the end the kids and the killer will either live or die, and we’ve seen both endings done so many times, who really cares to see it again? And in between the opening and the ending, the cookie-cutter plot is even less interesting. Not to mention filled with laughable plot holes. (Paper towels, anyone?) Calling this scary, gory, or anything else a horror movie is supposed to be is a laugh-out-loud joke.

There is nothing good I can say about The Hitcher, and there is nothing else I can say that people haven’t complained about before. The fact I’m even writing this page-long review is giving The Hitcher too much credit. You’ll have forgotten you even watched it within a week, maybe less.

God, I hated this movie. Shallow, annoying, stupid characters. They all couldn't die soon enough.

Posted By: whitewire at 3:07pm, December 28, 2008

I have not seen the original, I will soon, but I really enjoyed this movie. Sean Bean plays a great villian, and the rest of the cast does well in this film to. Platinum Dunes continues to deliver quality entertainment, and I can't wait for their upcoming projects The Unborn, Friday, Nightmare, Horsemen, The Birds.

This movie made sure when "my mother said never to do something " I never did !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted By: dherna7704 at 2:06am, October 9, 2008

it deserves like a 1 but just for the gore and the car crashes and that rabbit being run over it gets 2 points

Posted By: Protecious at 2:25pm, September 30, 2008

Stick to the original classic one, more scary, better directed, and overall just a more entertaining picture than this remake is.
I see why they thought perhaps a remake woudl be a good idea for this film since it's mostly unknown and would seem more new to people than a remake, however fans of the original who grew up on it, probably doesnt think there is much to offer here.

Posted By: HorrorDefender at 9:06pm, August 22, 2008

As the guy who username is DeadMayTasteBad the college kids are just really fuckin stupid i was all the time screaming you stupid bitch dont do that or let the fuckin hitchhiker with the family and call the police but what can we say they are teenagers but otherwise the movie was fun and gory i didnt got borned in none of the parts of the movie and i got to admit Sean Beans character was really creepie and insane and the acting of all the other actors was very good i think the movie is just as good as the original so rent it and youll be guarantined to have some good ol fun.

Posted By: muggs at 12:39pm, August 4, 2008

*****The Following Review Contains Spoilers*****

"Lots of like-minded responses here. This film was asinine.

The plot holes weren't just unbelievably silly. They were incredibly annoying. I registered just to come here and whinge about this pathetic film.

By the end of the film, you're GLAD those two stupid college kids are being tortured by the hitcher.

Why would you make yourself known in a dark basement/jail if you couldn't see the psychotic killer by yelling out nonstop - revealing your location - AND telling them you have a gun? Why would you be so stupid and selfish as to hide out in the toilet - where there are three sane people right outside who look strong enough physically to help you - when the whole point of you running into the diner is to call 911 (not just to order someone who obviously thinks you're crazy to call 911) and get an ambulance for the guy dying outside? Instead, you waste all your time getting PAPER TOWELS - which, yeah, are really going to help?!!! And if your boyfriend was in mortal danger of literally being pulled in half and you have a gun in your hand, why don't you just try and shoot him free or shoot at the wheels/engine of the truck? And to leave the experienced cop stuck to the car after an accident, without a gun, well exposed to the crazy dude when you're pretty crappy at using guns yourself to try and kill the bad guy is just unbelievably annoying. Other situations where the dumbest college kids on earth just endanger other people, especially members of the police by not communicating properly with them, and turn the audience against them.

Many other similar plot holes that will drive you crazy. The female lead was written so badly. She was tragically annoying.

Sean Bean can do so much better." --amazinggrayling, imdb.com

If you're looking for an example of how full of gratuitous gore, devoid of substance and/or any genuine thrills, scares shocks most modern Hollywood horror films are, than 'The Hitcher' is as good example as any. It, like all of Michael Bay's horror films, mistakes loud noises for actual genuine scares.

I saw the original a few years ago because I had heard from several people that it was the most thrilling movie they had seen. Well, I sat down to watch it, and only then realized that it would take me more than one sitting to finish the movie. I really did not like it.

I was excited about this remake, as a fan of Sophia Bush (for her acting skills, I swear!), and went to see it with an open mind. I really enjoyed it -- the actor playing Jim was very good and pretty convincing, and as usual Sophia's acting was above average.

The movie's thrills are above and beyond what any Asian horror remake has to offer, or any other recent remake (aside from Aja's 'Hills' or the Dawn of the Dead remake), and are well executed for the most part.

This is definitely oen of the better remakes and is far underrated. Definitely worth a rent, or maybe a buy... just be warned, it's no masterpiece.

I didn't find anything good about it.

good but not better than the original

This is one of the greatest horror/thriller/accion movies ive ever seen with its good actors, bloody scenes and suspense.

Posted By: Repo!Screams at 3:44pm, March 30, 2008

This is one of my favorite horror/thriller movie remakes I thought it was a great movie and Sophia Bush and Zachary Kingston and both vry likable actors that suck you into the movie. And Sean Bean is creepy!

Posted By: leatherfacekillserinfan1 at 8:09pm, March 29, 2008

When I brought this movie 2day, i was excited to watch it. I started loving this movie as soon as it started. I fell in love with Sophia Bush as soon as I saw her and I loved how they used move along by the all american rejects. since i have a suround sound system I turned the movie a little from all the way up and it made me jump alot. I thought Sean Bean was creepy but 2 familiar. he in 2 many familiar movies( lord of the rings 1, silent hill). The action sequences were great and made te movie exciting. I fe;t the love between Grace(sphia Bush) and Jim(Zachary Kingston) in this movie. this movie was very well done and to me is in ranks with house of wax on the best horror movie remake list.
