The best thing about Knowing is not the actual disasters but the conflict inside the character of Nic Cage. Is it personal curiosity or a screaming conscience that causes him to go and explore the message behind the note?
Whether we like it or not, the world will come to an end, and Knowing's depiction of it, setting aside the aliens, is wonderfully believable.
Wish I had dug up a paper that would have told me not to watch this one. The premise was interesting and there were some cool scenes but the rest was boring.
One of the best, unique and surprisingly creepy disaster/thrillers I have seen to date. It kept me intrigued and on the edge of my seat from beginning to end and had some great and intense action scenes. I thought the acting was pretty good but not amazing but the filming was excellent and director definitely knows how to create a spooky atmosphere. The thing that kept me from giving it a five star rating was the ending which kind of makes the film lose its effectiveness and realism. Overall I really like this film and it's one of a kind and a little underrated. Recommended!
I have to say, I`m a sucker for a good disaster movie - which this almost accomplishes.
The first half of the movie is quite engaging and mysterious, fairly original (as far as a disaster movie goes) as well. In facet I really enjoyed this movie up until the end, when it clearly becomes CREATIONIST PROPAGANDA. I mean come on, could they have been anymore obvious...
So personally, that completely ruined the movies for me... but if you can overlook this, or are in fact a Baptist, then it`s definitely an enjoyable movie with some great effects. Which at the end of the day, is pretty much why we watch these movies, right? Oh and Nicolas Cage acted like a googly eyed dink through the whole movie as per usual. Nicolas Cage NOT being in this movie probably would have improved it as well.
Average. The film starts off a little mysterious, but from then on, it's just really boring. The 2 hours and 10 minutes on screen, really wasn't worth the ending, that I didn't get (Although i have a theory). The premise was great, but the build up to the finale, was really a let down. The CGI effects were obviously fake, which made the film seem a little cheap. Several "jump" moments, and great disaster scenes, but there was several plot holes, never resolved.
The plot was jus another doomsday theory, just extended, and attempted to be better. The plot at the start was really good, but then slowly got lost before the movie finished. The ending was just really really confusing, and just unexplained.
The acting was actually quite good, with the exception of "Nicholas Cage" who's just seemed a little too miserable for the role. "Rose Byrne" was one of the standouts, and very believable in portraying "Diana".
Overall "Knowing" is way too long, and too boring, with a few cool moments. My rating is 2/5.
Alex Proyas is a brilliant director he's responsible for some of the most conic films of our time The Crow, Dark City and even Hollywood action fest I, Robot. He has a way of taking a generic concept and transforming into something dark and uncompromising. the execution of this some what doomsday thriller is no different. it's also one of the mot terrifying films I've seen in awhile. the subway and plane scenes were so realistic and left me speechless with tears in my eyes. I highly reccomend this film and suggest you run out and catch it immeadiatly. Despite a few flaws which aren't even worth mentioning Knowing is the bets film of the year. It's breath taking.
was good to a point the ending really spoilt it, felt like the whole movie had been building to go somewhere amazing and it just fell flat on its face, the ending was such a let down, my advice is simple go and see BUT leave before the ending cus i dont think ive ever been so let down with an ending ever, cus the film was so much better then that ending it deserved a better ending that suited the rest of the brilliant movie, such a let down
WOW!! I was surprised. I was expecting a typical type disaster movie but wow the filmmakers actually have some balls. Surprising ending added to a suspenseful and enjoyable movie. Go see it.
What and amazing movie. Those diaster set pieces were insane. And I can't wait for the un-rated to see if they add more, or up it up a knotch. And hands down this was the most violencest PG-13 movie to date. Actually ever made. If they can do PG-13 films like this and Dark Knight then more people will actually like them. Those set-pieces were hard to watch and chilled me to the bone which is hard to do. I still can't shake them out of my head. SOme of the other CGI with the animals and the fake planet at the end was horrible. But w/e the set-pieces made up for it. The ending a lot of people are bitchin at, but it was different, and bold. And had a great meaning. Alex does it again. Thanks.
i expected a lot more out of this movie but it was ok.... Nicolas Cage was a good actor as usual and the story was really goo and the plane and the subway crashes were actually terrifying and hard to watch..even for a PG-13...the special effects at the end were kinda crappy but the ending was amazing!!!! this movie did drag along though and was boring at times.
This movie would have easily gotten a perfect 10/10 from me had it not spun itself into a totally different (and dumb) direction in the last 15 minutes or so. It's a very intriguing and entertaining flick, and the disaster sequences are very realistic and terrifying to watch unfold. Awesome special effects work. But what really kills the movie is the whole alien nonsense. You'll know what I mean when (and if) you see it, but it really ruins what could have been a flawless action/thriller. I recommend seeing Knowing, but I have no doubt that how it ends will piss off many people (myself included).
i really dont understand the horrible reviews for this. i thought it was great. I saw it with a packed audience and there was even some applause when it ended. Loved it.

I don't know if it's just that all the other disaster movies i've seen that makes me hate disaster flicks (armageddon, the day after tomorrow, etc) but i was pleased with this. I'm in agreement next and the second national treasure utterly sucked ass though. I have to give it up for the disaster sequences and the ending which honestly caught me off guard. I happen to really like this movie even if it's mostly due to my LOW LOW LOW expectations going into it. Elements of the plot were weak such as the whiskey spill on the paper and the fact the "whisperers" even bothered to distribute the number sequences at all but i can take it in stride. I have to go see it again to see if i liked it as much as the first time. Even if you didn't like it there is still a trailer for the new terminator flick so make lemonade biotch.
This movie was one of the best science fiction movies I have ever seen. It was just amazing. The concept and the ideas he thought of were just top notch. Great CGI too.
The idea, and the concept bore me to tears. Judging by the commercial alone, this just looks to be terrible. No, I will not give it a chance. I won't even watch this when it comes on HBO, just like I haven't watched the second National Treasure movie. Why does Nick take roles like these? I don't get it.
It started off pretty good. I liked the beginning when it showed the classic 1950's. It was kinda scary a few times with those 'Whisperers' The things that got to me were seeing the people burn after the plane crash, dying in the subway, and the depressing ending. Nicolas Cage did a really good job, as did everybody else, and thought the special effects were pretty cool, but toward the end seemed silly, involving some kind of alien/angel/demon thing. It was confusing toward the end. I probably wouldn't recommend KNOWING!!!
Holy fucking hair plants. This movie BLEW. what the fuck happened to Alex Proyas? The douche blasts out of the gate of obscurity with 'The Crow' and 'Dark City', then proceeds for the better part of an entire decade to shit on a plate and film it. This movie at the very least had some interesting sequences, but it's all made moot by the hammy acting by Cage and his limp-dick supporting cast. BALLS. I really wanted to not hate the fuck out of this.
