One of the better werewolf movies. I really liked how they tied the coming of puberty with the changes of a werewolf so what we see is Ginger making 2 big chnges, at one level she is becoming a werewolf and a woman at the same time. As she is becoming the werewolf, we have the plot of her becoming a woman which is what everybody in the movie is seeing happening to ginger with the exception of her sister.

THis movie is way sick. An original take great character composition especially with the sisters makes it one of my top three werewolf movies. The second is awesome as well. THird is kinda wack

Good Werewolf movie. I could have been better but still a very entertaining movie.

Do not let the cheesy tagline and the low budget discourage you from seeing this movie. Ginger Snaps is absolutely a feminine movie, driven by two amazing lead actresses who start out as two goths who just (don't) want to fit in, but when the oldest sister gets bitten by a werewolf on the full moon, things get hairy, in more ways than one. First off, if you pay close attention, you'll see Ginger Snaps filled to the brim with symbolism involving women coming in to adulthood and how it changes them. Second, the acting is so natural and easy to believe. Third, the script is very cleverly put together, and fourth, the resolution will leave you startled. Perfect.

great movie, one of my favorites. Is definately stronger in the first half of the film but its a great movie. The two leads are amazing and really help bring you into the film.
OMG how is this film not 10/10 with everybody this is a great film, acting was awesome as an "outcast" myself I totally felt the whole vibe of this and the wolf effects were sooooo good, forget the sequels mind you but check this out this is the #2 werewolf film ever.
This movie was and still is a real treat to watch. I first saw it years ago and still to this day continue to pop it in my DVD player when I feel like having a good ole fashioned Friday night alone in my room with a few good horror films playing. The two main characters the film is centered around really pull you in and make you actually care for them and the problems they are both facing throughout the entire film. This movie was a very original take on werewolf stories and it delivers where most films that try just fail. Not only do we get good acting, a pleasant look and feel (the movie looks great), some incredible scares and a great story, but we also get a great load of laughs thrown in to remind us that a lot of good horror films take us on a joy ride of not only chills and thrills but humor as well. The film is followed by two sequels, part two being very good and part three being somewhat mediocre, and although I enjoyed the entire series, the first one has always and always will stand out as a classic in the horror genre. Two thumbs way up.
I had an unhealthy obsession with this film when I was in 8th grade, even forcing my teacher to watch it (and she loved it) It was one of my favorite films and still one of the most memorable films I've seen.
It was decent imo. Way too much emo teenage drama for my liking. Things finally got going at the end. It had it's redeeming qualities, but wasn't nearly as good as The Howling or AAWIL. Ginger was really hot though.
This was a very well done werewolf movie that is usually forgotten. I believe this is one of the most underrated movies of the 2000's while movies like Blair Witch Project are the most overrated. This movie has a dark atomosphere and at times a very dark sense of humor, it doesn't take itself too seriously but at times it does, but not in a bad way. The story of the two sisters gets to you and you can't look away from the screen, you just want to keep watching their weird suicide pictures and see how Ginger is changing. Watch this underrated movie and enjoy. An easy 8/10
The third bets werewolf movie ever made behind AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON and THE HOWLING. Wonderful characters, slick direction, and great effects make this one a keeper. Do yourself a favor and buy the Canadian DVD even if you haven't seen it. You won't regret it.
This is my favorite werewolf series ever! Fantastic acting, characters, story, and gore. I've watched this and its sequels several times and I love them all. Definitely recommend!!!
I love werewolf movies, but it's hard to find any that I can actually call "good" movies. I can enjoy crap like "Darkwolf" but that doesn't keep them from being crap movies.
"Ginger Snaps" is a great movie.

Wow, I expected to just sit, watch, and be mildly entertained, but this movie was great! Absolutely captivating. Best Werewolf Movie I have ever seen (that's not necessarily saying much, I guess, but you get the idea)
This is the best werewolf movie I have ever seen. The movie has fantastic pace to it. If you are a fan of the lost boys and dog soldiers then you will like this movie. Its not your typical PG-13 teen horror bullS*it its a fantastic movie. Good blood and gore scenes! The acting is done very well and keeps you hooked to the rolling credits
There is nothing higher I can say of any movie than that it's memorable. I've seen literally thousands of movies and, honestly, the second after I write a review for them, I usually forget them. They're just a blur then. Asking me to even remember the main character's name as the movie is playing, much less afterward, is just a joke, because characters have no character anymore. In the majority of movies I force myself to sit through—a lot of them critically acclaimed—I can walk out in the first opening 15 minutes, then come back in the last 15 minutes and know everything that happened when I was gone. (And, no, I don't do that, though I wish I could.) But Ginger Snaps isn't like that at all. It's memorable. While the majority of Hollywood just draws plots out of the pathetic pit of clichés the original monsters—vampire, werewolf, ghost—have become, Ginger Snaps doesn't. It's truly the most original werewolf movie ever written.
But do not get me wrong: Ginger Snaps is a drama set in a horror universe and that's all it tries to be. I could go on to the point of nausea about how pathetic the drama genre has become, but Ginger Snaps also flies in the face of those clichés as well. Do not let the word "drama" scare off all the hardcore horror fans, either. Ginger Snaps has enough blood—the opening scene must have sent PETA through the roof!—and action to hold you until the end. The dramatic bits are some of the best I've ever seen, as well, because none of the characters are clichés and you honestly care for them. Also, I've seen a lot of "funny" horror movies that just repeat the same jokes over and over again, but Ginger Snaps had me genuinely laughing quite a few times.
On a technical level, the directing in very clever, and it's noticeable. The camera shows/doesn't show certain things that always keeps the audience in a bit of mystery as to what just happened, and it's never once annoying. You hear a certain conversation and you assume it means one thing, then the next scene shows it meant something completely different. I've never seen directing quite like this, and it was very well-done and never predictable. A lot of the movie even has a crimson tint to it, which was downright awesome. Acting is perfect.
Now the bad: The length is a little unnecessary, especially around the ending, when it seems the same things keep happening over and over. It it were cut by 20 minutes or so, my score would be a lot higher.
The visual effects are horrible. The werewolves look like big plastic figurines, being that their skin and faces don't move. This has nothing to do with the overall awesome effect of the movie, and can be easily ignored, but it's just a big problem I have with calling it a perfect film.
In the end, though, Ginger Snaps is nearly perfect, even if my score suggests otherwise. You won't see a better teen drama in your lifetime, and you won't find any film out there like it at all. Ignore the really bad pun, but it's totally a beast of it's own.
Ginger Snaps has to be one of the most memorable horror movies of all time. A sleeper hit of the highest grade. As a Canadian, I have to say I'm quite proud of this movie. Previews made it out to be another lame teen slasher, but there was something different about it. I decided to see it and my instincts proved right.
I'm fairly desensitized to horror movies, so I didn't get scared while watching this. However, it's loads of fun and emotionally draining. The music is also worth noting. Mike Shields score for Ginger Snaps is dark and brooding and really puts a dent in your mood. This is an indie movie that is sure to obtain a cult following in the future if it hasn't already.

Wow. I watched this movie a week ago and I'm still thinking about it. This movie is definitely better than 'An American Werewolf in London.' It has a gorgeous teenage actress and a great coming of age story (that high school is so realistic) mixed with awesome gore and many disturbing situations. The ending was purposefully unfulfilling, and you'll need to see the movie to understand what I mean. See this film NOW!

Completely genius no complants here this movie rox
Everytime i was in the DVD store i would see Ginger Snaps 1,2 and 3 for rent and i would always passed it because it never really caught my attention but when i had seen mostly all the horro movies there i decided to go with this movie thinking it was going to be a B grade movie but when i watch it OMG It was amazing! Not only scary but funny as well.
For a Canadian horror movie it was really surprisingly good I know this for a fact as I am Canadian! I really enjoyed Katharine Isabelle in this movie she born to be GINGER the only complaint I have with this movie is Mimi Rogers!! WTF??? She had no place in this movie!!
This is one of the best movies I have ever seen. As a girl horror fan I love horror movies aimed mostly at girls and its fun making my boy mates watch it and having them cringe at the period scenes :P.
Emily Perkins is amazing, as she was in IT and it has some amazing quotes. Excellent opening and closing scenes, you have to watch it.
