I thought this movie was awesome. Not as good as the original but it was still good. Zombie picked good actors. It was great to see Danielle Harris once again. She still did a great job as usual.

really good

I loved it.

Posted By: Atheist-American at 2:02pm, November 8, 2009

The problem I have with this movie is the problem that some people who have wrote glowing reviews for it: the backstory.
This is the major problem (besides the fact that the rest of it was basically a carbon-copy of the original), not because there is one, But because Zombie did a terrible job at doing it. He wants to give a reason for the madness as if Michael is a human, yet still wants Michael to be this unstoppable killing machine. If that's the case then there is no reason for a backstory since it doesn't play into his evilness. It just shows that this maniac had a shitty childhood. Once you see that that whole section of the flick is unnecessary, what's left? The exact same original, just with more cussing and blood. Nothing special, but still leaps and bounds more impressive than what Zombie did with the sequel.

Let me get this clear, this movie is not the original. Not at all. And by that I mean it is nothing like the original, which I like.
The age of Michael Myers has changed. Originally a 6 year old who killed his sister, he is now a 10 year old who killed his sister, step-dad, and sister's boyfriend. A thing they could have changed from the remake is some of his reasons for killing. In his childhood he killed a bully for picking on him, his step-dad for harassing him, his sister for ignoring him on Halloween, and his boyfriend for causing it. And also in the original script for the remake, the lady who he killed in the asylum originally when told Michael that his baby sister was cute, told him that she could have not have been related to him, technically remarking that he was ugly. So it showed that he killed the people that made fun of him. That did not really tie up his random killing later in the movie as an adult, like where he killed the janitor who actually defended him in most situations. They changed his concept throughout the movie. Rob Zombie said in when of the special features of the DVD that Michael Myers as an adult, you still picture Daeg's (Child actor for Michael Myers) presents in adult Michael Myers. However I did not and I am sure most people didn't either.
His childhood made the movie feel less scary. The movie was not scary actually but it was entertaining. I was actually interested in what happened to Myer's real father, which they should have shown in the movie. In the original script and in the Unrated Directors Cut, the escape was different. I preferred the escape scene in the theatrical release where the security was shifting Michael somewhere and Michael broke out of the chains and killed the security guards, over the Unrated escape where Michael was in his room and the harassing employ and his cousin come in with a girl and rapes her, giving Michael the chance to kill them and leave the room. Which leads me to another thing. This movie has 3 sex scenes (not including the deleted scene with Myers sister and the Unrated escape) which had something to do with the storyline but was not needed. While the movie was not really frightening it was entertaining and unlike its original Mystery and Suspense film, this falls into a horror.

I'm atually one of the few that really like this film. Not a patch on the original by any means, but I like the new take on it. If you can watch it and seperate it from the original, it plays quite well. It's not Carpenter's film, but it'll do for now. Not seen H2 yet, but still looking forward to it depsite all of the criticism.

Posted By: The Spook at 3:27pm, November 6, 2009

This movie was actually really good! The backstory part was amazingly good, but the Original has a better "Slasher" part, but still, this is a great movie!

Good Movie!

As a fan of John Carpenter's, I feel that Rob Zombie gave a incredible take on the most notorious serial killer in the history of horror films. As a teen in the 1980's when I was "allowed" to see the famous classic, I always wondered why Michael Myers killed his sister for no reason. Of course, Dr.Loomis said it best, he is "truly evil".

In Zombies modern version, he gives us a "reason" and I love him for that. But now that I am older and know the etiology of psychopaths, there does not even have to be a reason.

The cast is stellar and the script solid. The young actor who plays Michael truly is like Damien from the Omen, but with a heart, because he loves his baby sister (Laurie) and his mommy.

Some die hard horror fans may not appreciate Zombie's tale of Michael, but I did and knowing Zombie's style of horror, I was not shocked by this version or felt like he dishonored Mr. Carpenter's vision and art by any means. Call me sadistic or lacking taste, but its my opinion and I am sticking to it.

If you like true slasher horror and raw performances, especially by the upcoming actress Scout Taylor-Compton, who has the pleasure of stepping into to some huge shoes by taking over the helm for Jamie Lee Curtis. So sit back and enjoy the carnival ride, you will feel the rush and want to come back for another.

This was an epic remake of a movie and should be resoected as such! The original was better though. But still a great remake is hard to do with an awesome parent film.

Posted By: jula at 4:21pm, November 5, 2009

not that bad,a few jump scenes, but that`s it.the death scenes weren`t scary and original.

Posted By: Mrmcd666 at 5:16pm, November 2, 2009

I don't understand why everyone wants to bash this movie, I though it was great for what it tried to do. The biggest criticims of this movie was about the origins of Myers and to me that was the best part. What did you want Rob zombie to do with this movie, exactly the same thing all the other Halloween movies do hack N slash and nothing else? If you dont want to see the origins than dont see this movie but if your curious then this is the perfect movie about how a serial killer gets his start

Posted By: JoshG16 at 1:48pm, November 1, 2009

This Remake Off a calssic will never ever be better than the Orginal but it a prety damm good Reamke special by Rob Zombie himself. It has a back story of wh Micheal Myres was soo Evil which good but Micheal myres is not a bloody/gorey killer and that what this film show overall love it very good remake will be a classic for this centry

Posted By: =AuTI_tAkahashi= at 5:00am, October 23, 2009

Let me get something clear first: For me, John Carpenter's Halloween was not perfect, but I get the reason why it's called a classic. While Rob Zombie's version of Halloween was not that bad.

Now that I've said what I needed to say, let me get to my point: You never, and I mean NEVER, remake the "Citizen Kane" of horror movies. "end point"

Posted By: MONSTA at 10:37am, October 20, 2009

I really like this film. I watched this film knowing it was not going to be the original and that is what I liked about it. Zombie made this movie his own version of the Halloween story. The look into MM stay at the asylum added to the already great legend.

Posted By: mR BuLL SaX at 10:12am, October 20, 2009

Not a bad remake, Wouldn't go as far to say that its was a brilliant film, but for a modern day twist on an old classic it did well and kept me entertained from start to finish.

Posted By: elala92 at 7:27pm, October 19, 2009

Was it perfect? Absolutely not.
Was it good? You bet! It might have basically regurgitated the whole second half, but it provided a modern-esque feel to it.
My only problems with it were the fact that Rob Zombie decided to explain why Michael is the way he is. Some things are just better left unsaid; I like a little mystery to my slashers. And lastly, there has to be some type of time contradictions. I don't know if that makes sense to any of you, but it seems like the film's time-setting flips around; it goes from 70's to now. That doesn't make a lot of sense.

Posted By: Psychos at 5:29pm, October 19, 2009

It wasnt that scary but the first kill of the movie was a good one and i enjoyed the end of the movie

Posted By: CountOrlok at 1:34am, October 19, 2009

What a piece of crap. The death scenes weren't scary, they were laughable. Instead of suspense, you get shaky-cam and bad acting.

And Zombie ruined Micheal Myers - he's now an emo little kid in a dysfunctional family. Lame.

Terrible, terrible movie.

0/10

Posted By: Niallist at 1:02am, October 19, 2009

What more could I expect from Rob Zombie. Another horror film drowned in ridiculous filters to make up for the fact that he cannot direct, complete with a cast of blond buxom women and men who look just like... well... Rob Zombie.

Oh, and great job building up the character of Micheal Meyers. He was a little redneck with an abusive father and a whore mother who wore exclusively t-shirts of bands like Kiss and Lynrd Skynrd. Some real good characterization. Jackass.

Ultimately, the only history that could fit Micheal Meyers was the one that Carpenter gave him. An unexplainable middle class mute sociopath that kills for no apparent reason whatsoever. Trying to put some stupid trailer park reasoning behind his actions ceases to make them scary and unexplainable and just makes them fucking stupid.

Overall, there was no suspense or plot. Zombie substituted the overused shaky cam routine instead of actually making any scenes scary. Meyers' actions didn't make any sense throughout the movie, and none of the movie's acting stood up, with the exception, of course, of Malcolm Macdowell's, whose presence in this sea of mediocrity and staleness still confuses me.

For fans of Carpenter or the original Halloween/Halloween 2, do not under any circumstances see this movie. Horror fans whose favorites do not include Saw or Jeepers Creepers should not see this movie. If you're a fan of Zombie, I guess you'll like it, but I probably hate you.

Posted By: evil_ash86 at 2:49am, October 17, 2009

this was much worse than the John Carpenter version.

for one thing, Michael Myers originally only killed his older sister, but in the remake, Michael killed his entire family, except for his mother and younger sister, and he also killed his sister's boyfriend and a bully.

it was only okay, but i didn't like it because of what Rob Zombie did to Michael Myers.

the only good thing about this movie was Malcolm McDowell, he fit the bill of Dr. Samuel Loomis perfectly, much better than Donald Pleasance.

Posted By: horrorsofmymind at 2:15pm, October 16, 2009

well it was ok i like how it show more background of michael childhood and what made him do that but other then that it wasnt good original way way better

Posted By: PULSE101 at 7:26pm, October 8, 2009

john carpenters halloween was the begining of THE slasher film. and i remember being dissapointed when i got the news of Halloween being rebooted. i thought to myself "why would they? johns was perfect! what could they possibly do to make it better? HAHAHA they cant!". but i felt something when we saw young michael myers childhood, something strange, something i have not felt before with a reboot. I FELT DISTURBED. i finally understood why he got as phsycotic and enraged as he is. Terrible family, bullys at school, and a poor white trash life. as soon as it got passed the first 40 min of the movie i knew I KNEW this was one of my favourite horror movies of all time. the whole concept that Rob zombie delivered was just disturbing to think about. disturbing to even watch. after this movie had ended i had chills down my spine, hair on my arms standing up then i took a deep breath and said slowly....."I WAS NOT EXPECTING THAT AT ALL". all in all this is a movie that will haunt u forever and make Halloween a holiday worth screaming about.

I usually have to opinion that no movie deserves a 1/10 no matter how much I hate it. This movie has proven me wrong though!

First the movie removes all the mystery about Michael Myers. He is really just a guy who was mistreated as a kid - LAME! NO, he is a small kid that is EVIL, and one day he just started killing ;)

The acting in the movie is very bad, especially the kid who plays Michael Myers! The movie feels very disconnected, and pointless. I makes you not care at all about what happens in the movie.

A remake should be judged on its own terms, and that just makes this movie even worse.
Just DONT watch it! Then you should rather watch the decent H20 is you are looking for a "new" Halloween movie.

Posted By: Horrorfan81 at 5:23pm, October 5, 2009

I loved it. It was a perfect REBOOT! Screw all the haters this was a way better remake than Texas Chiansaw, & Friday the 13th put together! This was in (my opion) THE BEST REMAKE EVER!! and for all you haters of this, Do you really want to see the same thing over again? Halloween (1978) has already been done!! Do you really want to see the same movie over again shot for shot? I know i don't.

Posted By: immortaldeath at 4:45pm, September 22, 2009

boring. i have never been so bored during a Halloween movie(yes this bored me more then 3+5). i mean i liked some parts alot but overall the dialog sucked and the whole background on michael myers defeats the purpose of "the shape". i think zombie should stick to his own movies. dont get me wrong it was a horrible experience watching this, i just expected more i guess and i was let down big time. hey at least its not worse then the Friday the 13th remake

Posted By: gloomyish at 2:01pm, September 16, 2009

i really enjoyed the added plot to this movie from the original. the scene where he beats the kid to death with a big stick sends shivers down the spine! him murdering his family was a lot more exciting in this movie too.

i felt like the pace was a little off. a bit too slow in the prequel portion and a bit too fast in the remake portion. it would have been nice to enjoy watching Michael take his time in terrorizing and peering in through windows. maybe more footage of people running from him and trying to hide. i do enjoy how the prequel portion added reason to the remake. michael finds his baby sister, the only one he allowed to live, existing in a new life. and he means to destroy it. he kills her new parents, her friends, and then seeks her with an unknown (yet disturbing) intention. the editing in this movie was pretty bad. i heard an interview later where Rob Zombie mentioned how this movie was rushed out of editing and tossed into the theatre. a pity. i hate when i notice obvious flaws in a film the first time through. but overall, this was a good flick. the cameos didn't bother me much, they were short lived. i love how he looks. there are just a lot of aspects of this film that are really well done, and a lot of problems with it too. but overall, it was enjoyable. captivating. and fun. i was never really a huge fan of Michael Myers. he always seemed to be the biggest 2-dimentional sissy out of all the big names. he was just some dude with a bland squeeky clean mask and a kitchen knife. but i think Rob made him scary. gave him some soul and filled him with poison. made him bigger. made his mask scarier, dirty, and more real. gave him some purpose. and while i think a better mix of these elements into the original masterpiece could have been done - i can't overlook the fact that MICHAEL MYERS SCARES ME NOW. seriously. and i owe that to this remake and it's sequel. so bravo to that.

Posted By: Bostic101 at 3:32am, September 13, 2009

Zombie killed a classic. I didn't care to watch Michaels background for a hour. I knew he was disturbed..most killers are. I will say the orginal is woth your money but this was a terrible redneck remake.

Posted By: trickytreats at 7:30pm, September 11, 2009

If only he had spent more time editing this movie than it could have been great, but hearing people laugh at certain parts of the movie was not a positive sign. Loved the opening scene though.

Posted By: Insane Wolf Terror at 3:18pm, September 10, 2009

One of the best remakes I seen!

Posted By: Repo!Screams at 3:01pm, September 6, 2009

Wow, I'm so slow I just realized that Danielle Harris plays Annie, wasn't Danielle Harris the little girl from all the original Halloween movies? >_<

I actually liked this movie, not my favorite but not as bad as people are making it out to be. Number 2 doesn't compare to this one though, shame. ;|

Posted By: Nosferatu_the_vampyre at 10:55pm, September 1, 2009

This movie is total rubbish, skip it and watch the original instead.

Posted By: testadilatta at 4:37am, August 30, 2009

The first time I see this movie I hate it...
Now I see it in a perfect atmosphere, in high definition and I love it...
Zombie here isn't at the level of "Devil's Rejects" but this Michael Myers is awesome.

Posted By: SeeScottSpaz at 3:40pm, August 28, 2009

Zombie knows how to make a horror movie.

Posted By: My Science at 10:33pm, August 23, 2009

I give almost every movie a chance. Movies that start bad, usually end bad, but there are some out there that redeem themselves. I stopped this one about 30min. into it. I like Zombie's movies, but not fit into a mold of a classic, which is what this was. The classic spastic dialog just killed this movie from the get go, there was nothing that could be saved. I just couldn't bring myself to watch such a butchering of a classic. I had to shoot this one in the head. Save yourself, skip this.

Posted By: deadgoon697 at 3:48pm, August 23, 2009

Carpenter's Halloween is one of my favorite films. So it was with more than a bit of hesitation that I saw Zombie's re-imagining. I'm about fifty-fifty on all of his movies, and this is no exception. The first half is great, however, the second seems to be rushed. Seeing as we spend the majority of the movie with Michael, there's no real reason to care about the people he's slaughtering when he comes home. I understand this was supposed to be more "about Michael," but come on, I have to at least care a little bit about the ones dying (not side characters, but main characters). Visually, it's great. I absolutely love the visual style here. But with this re-imagining it lacks a lot of the tension of the original. It's not a terrible movie, but it's far from perfection.
As a side note I would like to state that I prefer the theatrical version since it doesn't have that absolutely moronic rape scene that the Director's Cut has.

Posted By: Dextias at 1:23pm, August 23, 2009

Rob Zombie's remake clearly suffers from inconsistency, thoughtlessness and simple foolishness. The first half is decent depicting disturbing settings, a fairly interesting introduction and some stomach turning violence. However, once the second half of the film kicks in, the decency is replaced by a dull, mindless and foolish slasher-flick revolving stupid characters and worse dialogue, and poor, blank suspense.

Posted By: groundgamer at 6:57am, August 23, 2009

This is what I call a solid remake. Halloween is to story of Michael Myers, the phyco child, that kills his family, and then grown, returns to his hood and finishes what he started. Halloween is a great movie, I loved every second. The amazing soundtrack, the great acting, and the amazing hack "n" slash element. The guy who played the grown up Myers did a great job, and the child is just wonderful. The team did a great job here, and this movie is worth your time.

10/10

Posted By: jburtrum25 at 7:14pm, August 21, 2009

I am a DIE HARD fan of the original Halloween and I have to say Rob Zombie did a perfect job with the movie!! The way he explains Michael's back story is spectacular!! Daeg Faerch is the perfect young Michael. All in all 10 out of 10 stars. CAN'T WAIT FOR H2!!!

Posted By: NightmaresPl0x at 6:57am, August 21, 2009

Amazing job

Posted By: freaq90 at 12:44am, August 20, 2009

I loved loved loved this movie, and I am a huge fan of Rob Zombie's films so far. I feel that each of his films has been better than the last...so this makes me VERY excited for Halloween 2.

I think Rob did an excellent job re-imagining the Halloween franchise. I liked that he did his own thing with it...and I REALLY liked how fucking violent it was.

People bitch that this isn't the Michael Myers that they're used to...well, I think the old Michael Myers has been done to death in the previous films. I liked that Michael Myers was a huge, hulking, unstoppable killing machine in Rob Zombie's version.

About the only complaint I have with Rob Zombie's films is that I think he could sharpen up the dialogue in his films a little more.

Posted By: Jonny Darko at 4:18pm, August 19, 2009

As a remake goes, this is one of the finest. Rob Zombie re-invents Halloween as the ultimate slasher it once was. His spin on the story was brilliant and Tyler Mane's performance of Michael Myers is truly menacing. The prequel story was great to watch and see how Michael grew into the monster his is today. Well done Rob Zombie for rebooting the franchise the way it should have been done, not just a boring shot for shot remake we are used to seeing.

Posted By: freak182 at 1:13pm, August 15, 2009

great remake would have been better without all the nudity

Posted By: Mr. Bloody Perfect at 8:34pm, August 13, 2009

i really liked this version. many people seem to be bitching that it's just like the original halloween, but (correct me if i'm wrong) that's why it's a re-make right? you can't "remake" a movie and change everything (example: house on haunted hill). the only problem i have with it is that zombie changed michaels family from nice middle class people to white trash. other than that very good.

A good remake with some flaws. Zombie did a good job with this one.

Posted By: YoungHorror at 2:47am, August 7, 2009

Ok ok, I know that NO ONE can touch the original, but this was a pretty damn good movie for what it is. Rob Zombie is a true horror fan and respects the genre. Who could have done a better job? No one. Solid movie.

Posted By: HNIC16 at 5:06pm, August 6, 2009

This movie was so stupid it could not compair to the original halloween the original halloweens were way better than the remake if rob zombie really though that he could make a better halloween he was sadly mistaken this movie was stupid the only good about this movie was the girls boobs.

Posted By: Belasco at 7:57am, August 5, 2009

The first half was good, the second half was pretty much 'halloween by numbers'. Am expecting morte from H2.

Screw you guys!!! Zombie did a great job.

Posted By: hellangel at 7:07pm, July 30, 2009

fuckin awesome! I know alot of people are going to hate me for saying this, but i thought this was way better than the original. I do love the original, i do. Its classic, but Rob Zombie just did such a kickass job on this!! Loved it, can't wait to see the 2nd one.

realy cool remake. Zombie has style.

Posted By: tommyblah at 7:54pm, July 21, 2009

Now I admin, I'll take whatever they'll give us in the Myers department and I'm a huge fan of Zombie's previous films, as well as some of his music. But after many watches I've come to the conclusion that this movie blows.

First of all, I don't like taking ALL mystery out of Michael - he is officially no longer 'the shape', he is no longer 'pure evil' or mysterious. Zombie tried to justify his actions, maybe because this was his family and it was his fantasy to become this maniac. Right off the bat, we have a horror film that is not scary, which is like a chick flick without love.

The white trash element doesn't fit. It ruins everything. Michael is kind of this overweight child that tortures and kills animals to get out his aggression against his family. Now maybe make him introverted and not such a loudmouth, it could go over better.

I hated it in theaters, kind of liked it with my first watch on video, and then hated it each time after. Let's get to key reasons aside from the white trash thing being out of place...

Many shots of Myers standing stalking in the daytime look awkward and should have been reshot..pay attention to these when you watch.

The mask is almost too deteriorated and from the pics I've seen from pt 2 it's getting much worse by the minute. The leather getup --ehh, it'll do but I'm not a fan.

He's too much of a powerhouse rather than a mysterious shape that stalks and goes in methodically.

The cop treats Loomis like he's full of shit the whole movie, then all of a sudden at the very end, goes "oh yeah, Michael's sister that he was cradling after the childhood murders lives in this town. i know because i was the one that took her and put her up for adoption. we better go back and save everyone." WTF? you don't build tension by revealing inconsistencies at the very end.

At the end, it seems like they keep adding things to extend the movie. Instead of running down the street, Laurie runs in a house and upstairs, so Michael can do the board-smashing scene...very forced and unrealistic.

I don't like that he's just going after Laurie so he can be with her, or whatever the hell he was implying. It weakens Michael, and once again, he is no longer the emotionless, pure evil, "shape" that is Michael Myers.

Everything that related to the original seemed forced, not acted or executed as well, and just not Halloween-style. The only "good" parts are the things that are in all of Zombie's movies...white trash spewing vulgarities at each other.

Bad reboot. Say what you will about F13th. As a fan of both, I am psyched to add that one to my collection...this one, I'm kind of bummed because it will get very few watches over the years.

You can take liberties in a reboot, but don't overstep your boundaries. This did...F13th danced on the line but IMO kept it real.

Posted By: Mayhem at 12:28pm, July 18, 2009

I enjoyed this one, I like Michael's backstory I like the streamlined version of the origial, loved the violence, gore and nudity. The original will always be a classic, but this one was good way to get the franchise on it's feet again. No more kung-fu Busta Rhymes...

Posted By: horrorbuff28 at 6:57pm, July 17, 2009

this was a good movie but i wish it was a little more original and not so much a remake of the horror classic.
in other words i wish rob zombie would have put out his own ideas for this movie but he basically took situations from the original halloween and put it in this one.

Posted By: skatekid95 at 1:26pm, July 17, 2009

An all time great in my opinion, rob zombie did a great job

Posted By: Philogelos at 6:10pm, July 16, 2009

First of all let me confess that I've only seen Halloween2 and Halloween H20(I know, I'm trying to correct this mistake!) From what I've understood from H2, Michael Myers is a killer trying to kill is little sister, to complete the killing of his whole family, beggining a killing spree with a body count more than the healthy standards. In H20, Michael achieves his goal (letting me wonder why does he keep on killing people in the rest of the movie but whatever!). Oh, and I mustnt forget that Mikey has an unnatural strength and invulnerability, making him unstopable! Michael is pure evil. The boogeyman.
Now, let me quote ScreamBloodyGore: "Michael Myers is no longer pure evil!". Unfortunately, this is true with Rob Zombie's "Halloween". After all, Myers is just an ordinary kid who grew up in a twisted family, in the perfect enviroment for a serial killer to come out. I think the kid would be sick if he didn't came out a psicho. But Michael Myers wasn't that kind of killer. He was the Evil himself, idealized and personified, not a product of a family or a society. He isn't there to show us society is wrong, the sistem is wrong. He is there to warn us that evil exist and its unstoppable.
I don't thing it's such an horrible movie as everyone paints it. It has some really good scares and it's always nice to see Myers wander around with his Shatner mask. But it's nothing more than a bad fan fiction, not really an Halloween movie. Besides, is very sad that Zombie didn't freaked out directing this as 1000 corpses, wich would have made much better movie.

Oh and I almost forgot! Sheri Moon!? She's ok as a wicked daughter from the freaky family but mothoer of Michael? Nope...

THIS MOVIE MAKES ME THINK WHY DID HE EVER PLAY MUSIC AND THIS FILM MADE THE OTHER FILMS LOOK LIKE CRAP I LOVED THIS FILM AND I HOPE THERE ONLY GOING HAVE H2 AS THE ONLY SEQUAL

Posted By: ben_tramer at 10:56pm, July 9, 2009

It wasn't...that...bad. Very decent in my opinion. Just take this and the original seperately, and as the original should already be on a plane that will never be reached, it should be easy.

Then enjoy this film as a throwaway slasher, and you'll find its decidedly more than that. Not much more, but still decently scary and Danielle Harris is nude! Come on now folks, that speaks for itself too.

Over all...not as bad as everyone is making it out to be. But of course, it doesn't touch the original. What does?

Not much.

HELL YEAH!!!
Rob Zombie Cleans Up The Very Very First Mistakes And Brings More Value Into The Series That Begans A Reboot Series In This Film Acting Screenplay Never More Than Scary Michael Is Now The Second Best Killer In My Book.
Whats A Halloween Night With Out Jumps ?

Posted By: mister fresh at 2:13am, June 30, 2009

The movie wouldn't have been terrible if it was the original. On its own, it is a decent movie, it did a good job showing Michael's fucked childhood, and did a good job showing him progress into the killer he eventually became. The kills weren't bad, and the story was executed fairly well for Zombie. The problem is, this wasn't the original, this was a remake that shit all over the original. Zombie is excellent when he's in his element, his dirty, sleazy, backwoods horrors are great, but he tried to do the same thing in his adaptation of Halloween, and for any true fan of the original that just didn't work. I can respect the fact that he tried to give the film his own edge to it, but it just doesn't work trying to change an old classic that much. My only other complaint would be, when the hell did Michael become a 7 ft. behemoth?

Posted By: bufffiiieee at 11:01am, June 29, 2009

I think Rob Zombie did a great job on trying to make this film his own.I was very impressed and enjoyed every mintue of this movie. Could of done without the cussing every sec. though

Posted By: horrorfan25 at 2:16pm, June 27, 2009

As soon as a Halloween remake, or more accurately a "re-imagining" was announced two years ago, my expectations went through the roof. Mind you, I never saw the 70's classic until a year after the remake was released. I watched the first ten minutes and was appalled at how awful both the dialogue and the film was. I forgot completely about the remake and then remembered it after I saw advertisements of Halloween II, the upcoming sequel this year. I finally sat down and watched the whole movie and I must say, it was not worth the wait.

Before the remake, I saw the late 70's classic twice and still thought it was brilliantly made and easily my favorite movie of all-time. The remake is a complete bastardization of everything that worked in the original. Not only does it lack the suspense and thrills in the original, it tries to cover it up with unnecessary buckets of blood and gore. The original showed that you don't need excessive violence to make a movie scary, the imagination is scarier. The characters in this one are like cardboard. They have no emotion or feeling and they're just "added" there.

The pacing is also off. This is like two movies in one. The first half of the movie is impressive and certainly shows that Rob Zombie can put a spin on a classic and not ruin the brilliance. After the first half, it takes a step down and loses all the hope and faith in its previous hour. I also thought that it was unnecessary to show Michael's childhood, because it takes away from what was so frightening about a messed up kid that comes from a typical family and has an obsession with killing. Here the frightening level is absent.

Also the dialogue here is just terrible. The characters are way too scuzzy and dumb for their own good. I don't mean to offend anybody here and I'm anti-racist but it's like Rob Zombie turned it into a white trash redneck film. That is how piss poor the script is. In the original the script was amazing and a breath of fresh air. To avoid the film from getting half a skull out of five, it did have a few redeeming qualities.

For starters, I thought the kills were more elaborate and plentiful. While they are unnecessary, they certainly are bloody and more creative. The first half of the film is actually pretty good and if Zombie stuck to the first half of the film, for the whole movie, it would have been great and not receiving all these terrible reviews.

Hopefully, Rob Zombie fixes his mistakes and makes Halloween II an actual decent film. Although, even looking at that is pointless. There shouldn't have even been a remake, unless it's at least half as good as its predecessor. You know the old saying, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Posted By: Mr.ClassicMonster at 1:38pm, June 24, 2009

Apart from his family being white trash (they should have been middle class as they were in the original) the firts half of this movie is really good because it really gets inside Michael's head. When it starts the rerun things go down hill quickly and it gets repetative.
So this is half a fresh and good movie and half Psycho 1998 remake.

Posted By: Sopho at 7:24am, June 24, 2009

Rob Zombie is a great director and all, but how many remakes of this film do they have to make to realise they will never beat the original one? He's even directed a new one coming out later this year too. i think they should just give up on all the 'Halloweens' and think of some fresh stuff to write. Not saying they are bad...it's just time for something new and original.

Posted By: RiddleintheDark at 10:29pm, June 22, 2009

When it was announced Rob Zombie would be directing his own adaptation of Halloween, he wasn't taking on just any film but rather one considered by many to be synonymous with the genre itself. The 1978 original had eerie music, a silent killer who is relentless hunting down his younger sibling and her high school friends. From the start of the project, Zombie made it clear that his version of the movie would dwell into Michael Myer's psych and uncover the events that led up to his psychotic behavior. According to the original lore, Michael Myers grew up in a nice suburban neighborhood and raised by loving parents. However, this is in sharp contract to the remake, where Zombie offers a bleak outlook on his upbringing. In his version, the step father is foul mouthed drunk who spends his time watching television and yelling out expletives to his wife and her children. The mother is infamously known as Haddonfield's local stripper by Micheal's classmates. To cope with the stress, Michael puts on clown mask and dismembers his pet rat and the town's cats. This gradually leads to him killing an annoying bully and later those living at home. Fans seem divided on how Zombie approached retelling Micheal's past. Is Michael pure evil like in the original or more a product of his environment? Zombie seems to have flare for creating characters that have a white trash mentality and make sly, disparaging remarks to each other. Relying on it so heavily in his films make Zombie the writer look very limited in his character development.
Zombie doesn't improve on the story for the second half of the film, in fact he doesn't contribute much at all. As in the original, Myers manages to flee the sanitarium and make his way back to Haddonfield. From here, Zombie takes the film down familiar territory as we watch a near replica of Carpenter's movie in a compressed but less thrilling adaptation. This is disappointing because we know Zombie has creativity with establishing horrific scenes, like when he first directed a House of 1000 Corpses (the scene similar to Alice in Wonderland). There's a good possibility Zombie has such a high regard for the original that he felt by moving the location or eliminating characters, most fans wouldn't buy into it. Either way, I feel Zombie will actually deliver a violent and suspenseful sequel. Few people have ever raved about Halloween 2 being a great follow up. Maybe Rob Zombie should have started here all along?

Posted By: BassDude88 at 4:36pm, June 22, 2009

This film is one of two parts, and I know that opinions on them divide viewers. Let me be quite clear: I love the original, and up until halfway through, I loved this one. The beginning part detailing Meyers' childhood/early years was interesting, and definately got me excited to see what would happen when he escaped.

Unfornately, this is where it fell down for me. The second half became increasingly dull, and I felt quite disappointed about it. Zombie tried hard, and I think was almost on to something - Unfortunately he couldn't keep up the tension when it came to the adult side of the movie.

6/10

Big fan of Zombie and think he brought a great old story a real vision... All of the Zombie haters of the world should not deny this movie its excellence... Twisted, gory, violent, edgy, and surprising... Must see for any horror fan, A sequel will only bring more of the same...

Posted By: ScreamBloodyGore at 9:39am, June 13, 2009

I saw the workprint version back in Aug.31,07. I guess the best word here is empty. The movie just feels empty. The first half of the movie was pretty good, not great but I was keeping up with it. The opening credits sequence where it plays over the scene of Michael running from the school and then pauses for the Halloween title was by far my favorite part of the film. But why- oh' why does Zombie keep on having massive amounts of profanity and vulgarity through out the movie. It just cheapens the movie. Blame it on bad taste or Hot Topic, I guess?

The second half of the film is nothing more but a water-down brief summary of the original. It has no flare, no grace or beauty. Where are those long drawn-out creepy shots of Haddonfield durning the daylight. Laurie and her friends come across as a bunch of jerks and brats. Lynda was a really retarded character. I had no feelings for any of the girls. This whole half was lazy and at times almost a parody of all things horror.

The Good:

The opening credits sequence
Danielle Harris' tits
The movie's score
The use of Black Sabbath's Heaven+Hell, but something tells me it's not in the theatrical version.

The Bad:

Horrible acting
A dreadful dialogue
Silly amounts of swearing
No tension or eerie Halloween (the holiday) feel
Paper thin characters (Laurie and friends)
Zombie is too one dimensional. All his movies feel too much alike.
Michael Myers is no longer pure evil!

I still haven't seen the theatrical version yet. It sounds much worst from the reviews. A different opening credits sequence, along with a another new terrible ending- no thanks.

Grade: F

I thought this was a big pile of arse!

I liked House of 1000 Corpses & Devil's Rejects (& I'm a fan of his music all the way back to La Sexorcisto) so when I heard Rob Zombie was directing this I didn't have the usual "oh fer fuck's sake why?????" feeling you get when a remake of a classic hits the screen.

The beginning was good, but as soon as we get to "15 years later" it turns to crap!

Good things:
Danny Trejo (always worth watching... bring on Machete!)

Sheri Moon (Rob's Mrs is gorgeous even when really skanky)

Bad things:
Pretty much everything else, the kills were pretty bloodless & McDowall, while usually good, is no Donald Pleasance.

Still...... tons better than the dogshit "The Fog" remake!

Posted By: hisdinnerisintheoven at 10:37pm, June 12, 2009

Boring. Boring. Boring. I honestly don't know why people like Rob Zombie movies. I don't think he even really understood what made the original scary... NEVER explain what makes 'evil' evil. it's boring.

Posted By: HalloweenFridayThe13Th at 7:48pm, June 3, 2009

Rob Zombie's Halloween is an awesome horror movie just as good as John Carpenters. This a movie I can watch a million times & still enjoy it.

Posted By: mill biller at 3:50pm, June 2, 2009

michael myers is scary again, i hated the white trash element, WAY too much cussing, the death scenes were well done, the first half was better than the second half, then end:)

Posted By: VeryEvilDead at 3:49am, May 31, 2009

Ehhhhh

Still on the fence with this one. I was entertained most of the film. Something just didn't feel right though. The first half was a good idea with bad execution. The second half was just a rushed version of the original.

Posted By: ninbatmanmajinjigsaw at 3:06am, May 31, 2009

dude this movie was fucking intense.
every minute of the film i enjoyed and loved.
it was awesome it scary it had old classic scares and most of all young Michael was awesome...

laurie strode was ok i liked her alittle at times but some times alittle anoying..

but overall this movie fliping ruled

Awesome movie!!! Although no one can beat the original, Rob Zombie still brings a really good remake to the Halloween franchise!

meh

Posted By: marsdreamjunky at 7:54pm, May 9, 2009

while not as good as the original, of course, this was miles better than all of the sequels after Halloween 2. the acting was good, i mean come on it's a halloween movie, the gore, not a mindless gorefest but very violent and brutal, and once again michael is SOMEWHAT scary. the mask looks great too, i always thought it looked like shit after the original. scout taylor compton was good as laurie strode...her constant screaming was kinda annoying, but she did just as good as any other young actress in the role could've done. malcolm mcdowell was a great loomis, and danielle harris was kick ass in the little role she had. i could've done without the whole white trash element, such as every single male character in the film having scraggly long hair, and i would've also liked to know what time frame the film takes place in, but that's just me nitpicking. a good film, and a decent remake.

Posted By: ugapuppy at 12:10am, April 28, 2009

I am such a huge fan of the Halloween franchise. Lets face it, the series needed a facelift after running its course with Halloween 8. So I was excited to see a new take on the classic.

Halloween 07 was a mix bag for me. If you are going to remake a film, please do something that the original did not do. I felt that Rob should have made his Halloween without any reference to the original. He did for first hour, but when he got to Lauri Strode and company all he did was a fast pace cliff notes version of the original film. While not bad film overall, it just bacame too predictable and left me wanting something. I was not fully satisfied.

I will say this, Rob does a brilliant job in adding tension to scenes.

When i heard Rob Zombie was remaking Halloween i was pumped but nervous at the same time.

But after i saw it I LOVED IT!!!! He created a unique vision of one of my favorite movie legends, call me crazy but i liked it better than the original. Great cast, great acting, great directing.

My trust in Rob has gone up even more after i saw this movie, cant wait for part 2

Posted By: BloodCount at 5:16am, April 25, 2009

Hated this movie. The first one was really scary with mike chasing Laurie around with a knife and you could feel the adrenalin pumping. Rob Zombie made Mike a longhaired kiss fan and took away what was scary about him. Mike looked so innocent as a child in the original and that made him scary, but in this he just looks wierd. I know Rob did not want to be too close to the original but this movie is not the kind you can remake. Friday the 13th is a movie you can remake without disapoint people. Other remakes like the Hills have eyes was very close to the original but it made it's on twists at some points and it turned out great but remake Halloween is just WRONG! What next a remake of THE SHINING! If they do that Stanley Kubrick will rise from the grave and strangle the director.

Posted By: cjr83 at 8:53am, April 19, 2009

i think that some of the reviews of this were undeserved i am the first to bitch about the post carpenter halloweens(not counting 3 that isnt a real movie)
but this was just insanely good the scene in the woods is just on another level

Posted By: JTJ10 at 3:58pm, April 18, 2009

I loved Rob's version of this classic. Although alot from the old was used, some new was thrown in as well. It scared me more than original b/c old movies cant scare me(i dont know why). Scout was great as Laurie and i loved how Rob tried to ground this one a little more in reality. Great job Rob!!

Posted By: mr.something at 11:29am, April 18, 2009

great modern reimagination of the an old classic and cant wait for the sequel. not the best film of all time but its pretty damn good compared to most movies coming out these days.

Posted By: Truhorrur at 10:55am, April 18, 2009

Wow all i can say is WTF to all you people who claim to be horror fans and then go and bash this film. Now lets get one thing straight, the original sucked!!!! there i said it and it had to be said. stop defending the original just because u saw it when u were 6 and thought it was good, it wasn't. ALL of the Halloween films sucked until this one. Micheal has been one of the worst characters in horror, i mean after the 2nd rthe whole plot goes to shit even worse than jason takes Manhattan. This remake was amazing and BETTER than the original, the characters were real and micheal was finaly someone to be scared of. IOf you dont agree you probably watched a different movie like the shity original!!!

Posted By: djrb345 at 1:24am, April 18, 2009

John Carpenter's was a near masterpiece of suspense with minimal bloodletting. It started out much like a ride on a rollercoaster...slowly at first, building to an over-the-top thrillride.
Carpenter scared us like the old horror masters.
Rob Zombie's film, like all of his movies, was just the bloody overkill of a classic.

Posted By: Paraphyco at 10:01pm, April 17, 2009

Out of all the Halloween movies, this would be my favorite. It explains the way Michael Myers became such a monsterous phycopath killing machine. His childhood, sanitarium time, and the actual time he became the infamous ''the shape.'' I love the way Zombie took this old, beat down character, and turned him back into what he should be. I always love how he took a 250 pound, 6'9', body builder instead of a average, scronny man and made him have some sort of supernatural powers. But Rob Zombie did go over board with the swering and the shots of nudity. But overall I loved it

Posted By: bloodnguts313 at 3:32pm, April 14, 2009

i thought that its was quite great and it scared me to death. i turned it off ounce because i was scared so much!? Congrades it was great....i did thing the original was a bit better tho.?

Posted By: Skratchy at 7:09pm, April 12, 2009

Just bleh.

Why was Michael Meyers messed up? Cause his daddy was a meanie? Oh no! How lame. A story better left untold.

Aside from that, there was just nothing about it that made it stand out or even convincing for that matter.

Best part was when he beat the shit out of the Spy Kid.

Posted By: donatos at 12:37pm, April 7, 2009

Half slasher half porno

Posted By: hisnamewasmichaelkruger at 10:03pm, April 6, 2009

One of the best remakes.

Posted By: alexzisgod at 8:48pm, April 5, 2009

THE POINT OF MAKING A REMAKE IS TO MAKE IT YOUR OWN AND ROB DID THAT AND HE DID IT WELL. THIS MICHAEL MYERS STORY IS NOT BASED ON A TRUE STORY. IT'S FICTION AND WITH FICTION, YOU CAN MAKE UP WHATEVER YOU WANT WITH THE STORY. ROB DID A GOOD JOB WITH THIS MOVIE AND I RESPECT HIM FOR MAKING IT HIS OWN.HE DID A GOOD JOB.

Posted By: Alexandra_Hellborn at 6:35pm, April 5, 2009

I wanted to kill my self for spending money at a theater to see this. He messed up everything. The mom was never a stripper, the dad was not a dead beat and did not get killed in the original, and mike never showed signs of being crazy. That's what made Mike so scary, he was crazy for no reason. All he seemed to want is to show as many tits as he he could in one movie. The only thing I like was that he got Danielle Harris to be in it. I was so mad when Mike died at the end. This was one of the worse remakes ever.

Posted By: evildave at 7:07pm, March 29, 2009

there is one thing to say, this shits poor

Posted By: AvoidTheCheese at 6:53pm, March 29, 2009

I honestly think that considering Rob Zomibe's past works, he really could have made this film his own. A touch o' Zombie. But he didn't. He gave people what they wanted to see: stupid killer who was disturbed as a child with long hair, *ouch* scenes, a run-and-hide in stupid places girl, and sex..lots of stupid sex that is. What a good example of mainstream remake Betty Crocker recipe gone terribly wrong movie! Just when you thought there was hope for mainstream cinema..

Posted By: chambon913 at 12:35am, March 28, 2009

"Halloween: Remake" was awesome! I really liked the back story because in the original Film it doesn't say who "Laurie" is and in the remake it shows why she lives with a different family.

I think Rob Zombie did a great job Reinventing "Michael Myers" Halloween Franchise. I can't wait for the sequel this August.

I recommend this film to any Horror Fan, some of you may not like because its a remake but its A lot better than the Original Film.

Posted By: Jason4eva at 5:00pm, March 27, 2009

Terribly dissapointed.I always loved Rob Zombie but what he did with this movie sucked! Michael Myers is my all time favorite villian and he made him into a white trash spoilt brat kid! HATED THAT! The first hour of the film totally sucked! Then we get this terribly annoying girl as our Laurie Strode? one of horror fans favorite heroins? you are kidding me? The only thing good about this was having another Halloween fav (DANIELLE HARRIS) back in it.And her scenes were weak.

Posted By: Knife2urDome86 at 4:36pm, March 27, 2009

Carpenter's Halloween is one of my favorite movies of all-time. I have enjoyed Rob Zombie's films, but I haven't loved them. I was glad that we got the Michael Myers backstory, but then it just feels very rushed to try and get to the end. The ending itself was lame.

Posted By: j34ngr4y at 3:01pm, March 24, 2009

Why? It's a great movie with great directing and acting... why? Why remake it? And on that note I hated this movie for daring to think it could be half as good as Carpenters... F U Rob Zombie I hope you get and S.T.D and die! 0 out of 10

Posted By: james___2008 at 9:17pm, March 23, 2009

As ive read above, Rob Zombie is a gory director. His success is his use of over the top gore in movies.
The success of the original halloween was the lack of gore and that was what made it so scary.
I don't think it is as bad as everyone says it is but it does drag on a bit.
All in all it is nowhere near as good as the original but a decent enough remake

Posted By: TheOutcast05 at 11:12pm, March 21, 2009

Normally I hate even the idea of re-makes... However, I also disliked the original Halloween quite a bit, so figured I'd give this a shot. For me, this was everything the original should've been, just enough back-story to give us an understanding for the character and his motives, and just enough violence to sink our teeth into. Nice work Zombie

Posted By: bloodlust89 at 10:55pm, March 18, 2009

I am usually a fan of remkaes, but in this case,I think it should have stayed on the shelf. Zombie had some good ideas with where to take this movie, but it just didn't translate onto the screen. It just dragged on longer than it needed to, which left me feeling bored at some parts. On the positive side, it WAS Michael Myers back on the big screen; I think he is the one creepiest killers of all-time, and he lives up to that billing in this remake. All in all, it was worth making.

6/10

Posted By: Cipher000 at 7:24pm, March 15, 2009

I know a lot of people hated this movie but i thought it was pretty good. Gross though, i covering half my face for the stick beat down scene. An unneccesary remake it may be but cool and fun none the less.

Posted By: Cr8nkenstein at 12:47pm, March 15, 2009

Great movie... Looking forward to the sequel.

Posted By: Brandon371 at 12:27pm, March 15, 2009

I actually liked this one better than the original, this one was more entertaining and bloodier, which is always better. What I truly liked about this movie is that they show you more of how he became Michael Meyers, notorious serial killer, and not just show you him as a kid for 2 minutes, then cut right to when he's an adult. I also like Scout Taylor Compton, who plays Laurie, so she also made the movie good. I think fans of the original should check this one out if you haven't already seen it

Posted By: gutsontheceiling at 4:31pm, March 9, 2009

I enjoyed this flick, even though I am very faithful to the original. I really disliked Corpses when that was finally butchered enough for it's release, but I did enjoy Rejects. I suppose I had a good idea what I was in for with this, I just wish it had some genuine suspense and fright, which it did not. I hope the sequel will feel fresh and find ways to actually scare.

Posted By: randomrick at 10:13pm, March 8, 2009

Definetly a rob zombie movie for sure, but i found it very enjoyable.i liked the first half back story alot, the mental ward stuff was pretty decent and the end in a nutshell was halloween. Good movie not the origional, but what could be?

Posted By: horrorfan200 at 9:07pm, March 6, 2009

the big problem with this film is the direction rob zombie is not the ryt director for a halloween film robs a gory director and ucnt had too much gore in a halloween film soo change director and h2 shud be gud but they ddnt soo itl probley be shit il still watchin but very dissapointed

White Trash Cinema and Meathead Horror combines to make not only the worst remake of 2007, but the worst theatrically released film. There's a reason August is considered the "dump month" for film.

There is no merit in this remake and it's easily, Zombie's worst film. I wasn't a fan of House but I liked Rejects.

The Devil's Rejects had a mad sense of twisted fun that's missing here. This film is angry and soulless. Filled with degenerates and stereotypes.

I doubt H2 will be any different. Just another set of trailer park suburbanites that we can't wait to see offed, because the sooner they die, the sooner the credits roll.

Terrible film that shouldn't have made it past the pitch.

Posted By: DrJohnMan at 10:18pm, March 3, 2009

I desperately wanted “Rob Zombie’s Halloween” to be a good horror movie. I loved the first two Halloween movies, and I thought 4 was pretty good also. After that, I think the car fell off the cliff. One of the main problems of the sequels was that the continuity drove me nuts.

I hoped that Zombie could restart the franchise, and bring before a cool trilogy of Michael Myers. Well, what we ended up getting was a pile of white trash film making. I don’t remember there being anything that even came close to the greatness of John Carpenter’s original. To be honest, I am embarrassed by this remake, and believe it belongs in the trash with a lot of other remakes.

Thanks a lot Rob, you really broke my heart. I hope H2 is better… and if not, maybe another director can come and bring the horror back to Halloween.

When I saw this in theaters I nearly hated it! But after watching the unrated version twice, and then many times after that, I've come to love this movie. Of course I didn't like it as much as the original, which I've been watching since I was around 6. But I'm not going to judge this as a remake, I'm going to judge this as a whole different movie, a "reimagining" if you will.

The actors are well casted, especially the actor who played Michael, Tyler Mane, did his job perfectly. He brought a whole new feel to Michael, he is no longer a stiff seeming robot, he has feeling and moves more like a human, which was a good change of character. Rob Zombie directed this well, I really didn't pay much attention to direction 'till I got the 3-disk collectors edition and watched the 4 and a half hour making of documentary(4 and a half times) but now that I pay attention to Rob Zombies virtually perfect direction, I realized...it is virtually perfect, there are few things that I'd change about Zombies genius reimagining of such a classic and iconic monster.

Back on the acting/casting. I absolutely love how they brought Danielle Harris back into the Halloween series, she was definitely one of the best child-actresses and now in her laterish years still is a very talented actress. Of course they had to find someone either as good as Jamie Lee Curtis, or better. Scout Taylor-Compton is a very talented actress and played Laurie extremely well. At first I was a bit skeptical about who they chose to play Laurie Strode because she didn't match Jamie Lee's style, but then I realized that it didn't matter, she still is a really great actress.

Now on to young Michael, played by Daeg Faerch. I absolutely love this kid, he has such a evil quality to him. Plus he is a great actor. He brings such a different feel to Michaels character, so much that when Michael is older and slashing his way through Haddonfield, you picture Daegs presence underneath the mask. Dee Wallace(as Cynthia Strode) was also a great cast choice, since they didn't really show Lauries mom in the original, you don't have to sit there and find the bad and good differences between old and new versions of her character. Malcolm McDowell, who played Dr. Loomis, was also a great addition to the film, he brought something different to the character of Loomis, not in a bad way either.

Long story short, I really, really love the casting for this movie. The story really didn't have much changes to it, and I really love how they did Michaels childhood and showed his time in the asylum. I liked the first hour a little more than the rest because it delivers something that the original didn't; some past history. Which really affects your judgement of character on Michael because you see the innocent boy he once was.

The first half, his childhood, was great. It showed Michaels background and what he had to grow up with. The second half, him in the asylum, was also great. Showing him and Loomis's relationship and how Loomis was treating him and how Michael just gets worse and worse really forms a good image in your head. The last half, of course, was not as good as the original, but it was not a bad version. Michael seems so much more intimidating than in previous films(props to Tyler Mane)

The soundtrack was amazing, Tyler Bates perfectly remixes the original tracks by John Carpenter. No doubt that without one of the best horror soundtracks of all time, Halloween would not be as popular. At times in this film there seemed to be some unneeded nudity(when Big Joe Grizzley is on the toilet). But when Danielle Harris is topless, "at no point do you say "woah, nudity!" You go "aah, I'm uncomfortable and I want to get out of here" - Rob Zombie. He couldn't have put it better, when she is running from Michael topless you don't just stare at her chest, you actually pay attention to the scene. And with that said, clearly Zombie succeeded with that scene.

There is so many things about Rob Zombies version of Halloween that without, could have ruined the movie completely. That’s whats so amazing about Zombies directing and writing. "When people say 'are there any inventive kills?' I say 'no, there isn't" - Rob Zombie. I agree with Zombie when he says that realistic kills are scarier in slasher flicks. Thats what Halloween delivers, and is still original at the same time. Something bad about this movie is that Zombie's cast often uses an unrealistic amount of blood. I heard that they already used around 2 gallons of karo syrup based blood within the first 2 weeks. Not saying I don't like a lot of blood, which I do, and they didn't use enough for it to be too unrealistic, and not enough to ruin the movie, at least.

Rob Zombie still kept a lot of the original horror elements that makes Halloween, Halloween. I have to stop because of the character limit, but here is a link to the full review, please read: http://sites.google.com/site/horrorreviewsinc/halloween-200 9

I agree with the positive reviews! Not Bad at all!! must say it lands at # 3 for me in regards to all the Halloween movies. I don't get all the remake bashers. If you are that committed to the classics (and I do love the Classics), then don't watch the remakes. I gotta admit some of the reviews are crazy, remember everyone; these movies and actors are not trying to win Academy Awards here. LOL!

a average movie. it's ok, but can't beat the original.

I really don't understand why some people bashes this movie?! It's a great movie! Acting is great, Tyler Mane does an awesome job as Michael Myers! I think Zomvie did a great job with this movie! And, it's cool that Zombie shows Michael's backstory! I like this one, and I can't wait for the sequel!

Well to start out I'm a fan of the Halloween series and have seen all of them minus the 3rd one. Personally I liked this one over the original. I found that one to be slow paced and boring. The kills were great. The only downside is that the intro was too long, they should spent less time in the intotuiton part. There wasn't really a kool long chase scene. With those minor adjustments I would have liked it a lot more.

8/10

Shitbuster. Rob Zombie is also a shitbuster with films and music.

Posted By: billbeast at 9:29pm, February 20, 2009

Cool. I'm not a huge fan of the original, so I was expecting this to at leats be better than that, and it was. This was so gorey and every death was so well done it was amazing. The plot was slightly different aswell. I loved how the movie showed how he became the serial killer he is, and why he went to get his sister back.

The plot had taken the outline from the original, but Rob Zombie made it better. From get go, the film was definately going to be gorey, and the dialogue of the characters just makes the film modernized. The ending wasn't what I was expecting, but it was ok. A scene where he slits his mums boyfriends throat made me cringe. The plot itself makes the film seem so much better than it actually is, and it's probably one of the best remake plots of late.

The acting was great, and very believable. What I loved was how the acting was so modern, which I wasn't expecting, even when the plot was based 15 years previous the acting was still modernised which was great.

Overall "Halloween" is a modernised, better version of the original which is a great edition to the remake shelf. My rating is 3.5/5

Posted By: LuJr81 at 6:23am, February 20, 2009

I like the direction Rob went with this, I always wondered why Michael was the way he is. I know it "ruined" the mystique of Mike, but thats why its a REMAKE, if it would have been a shot-by-shot remake people would be bitchin about "originality". Thats why I like Rob's Halloween because its original.

Posted By: Mortagon at 6:09am, February 18, 2009

After reading all the reviews and commentaries from the haters on this site I didn't have high hopes for this remake. I must admit that while I thought the original was an ok movie, I didn't think it was all that special.

I actually found it quite interesting to see the childhood of Michael Myers and I think the kid that portrayed him did a really good job.

All in all I think this remake is quite good and I think some of the negative reviews I've read about this movie comes from people who A) Hate remakes in general or B)Hate anything that has to do with Rob Zombie or C)Thinks the original is a holy grail that can never be touched or meddled with.

This version and Carpenters version.
Shut the fuck up. This is fucking Rob Zombie
He did wat he was supposed to do take the movie and make. Ffgfgdgggghhhhjjj it pisses me off. These are two different films stop comparing. I give it two thumbs up

I wanted to like this movie,i did,but the plot holes, terrible acting, and lack of suspense, made this film pale in comparison to the original. We got the great Jamie Lee Curtis from the original, but there is nothing close in the remake.

To me this franchise went "Down Hill" after Halloween 2: Th Nightmare Isn't Over. (IMO) Every film after 2 was just not needed. So what Zombie did to "reboot" or "remake" the series was very much needed. This movie was in your face and made me feel for Michael Myers. His terrible childhood and his time pent in the mental Hospital. Over all it was one hell of a movie and I can't wait for Zombie's Sequel.

By far one of the greatest remake films i have seen since the Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003)...i love how Director Rob Zombie delved deeper into Michaels chldhood...it was pretty disturbing...also a better explenation of how he got his mask and why it was so messed up.The acting wasnt all that bad, i just didnt like the way he portrayed the girls as "sluts". I also didnt really like Dr. Loomis he wasnt portrayed that good. Michael was probably the best acting in the movie....cant wait 4 Part 2 of this movie, maybe itll turn out to be better

Posted By: cjhorrorfan13 at 9:11pm, February 7, 2009

I LOVE THIS REMAKE!
best remake i have ever seen
im so happy that its like a prequel!
but i have to say i like the Laurie strode parts the best
the music in this is awesome!
i really really really wish the chase scene was ALOT longer it was great!

Posted By: IWRS at 10:21pm, February 2, 2009

First off, this was not a bad horror/slasher flick.

Second, because this was a remake, that is all it will be to me.

I understand fully that Hollywood is out of fresh ideas and we are gonna have to learn to deal with remakes, and thats fine. But when a remake goes far beyond 'remaking' and utterly adds to, subtracts from and chops up the original script, it just makes it hard to enjoy.

The actual remake part of this movie was not bad, I however could have went without all the script changes. Im not going to get into it, any person who has seen the original and understands the franchise story of how Michael came about understands fully. My fear is that this film will bring out a whole new generation of young horror fans under the wrong impression, who may have never seen the original, and, upon watching it after this film, not going to enjoy it as much.

My opinion is that if Rob Zombie wanted to remake this, he should have just remade it. If viewers are confused, watch the originals and use your imagination, that was always part of the fun.

Overall, not bad makeup effects, a few good blood spills and a few quick spooks, but other than that I DONT recommend this film to an already avid Halloween fan of the original series.

Posted By: frawgman at 6:47pm, February 1, 2009

the complete lack of character development kills this movie. I just stopped caring about halfway through. all the acting was good and the film has a very 70's exploitation feel about it which is cool.
another thing i didn't like was how sleazy it was
and frankly degrading to women. just about every female character in the movie is presented as an amoral whore. and whats with the ridiculous amount of obscenities? it gets old really quick

Posted By: ShellieStein at 1:22pm, January 29, 2009

I thought it was pretty good. I like how Rob Zombie went more into Micheal's past to tell more about why he turned out that way. I can't wait for H2 to come out in the Fall.

Posted By: WickedIrish at 7:41pm, January 25, 2009

Rob Zombie did a great job delving deeper into Micheal Meyer's past.

Posted By: bcbolo at 6:14pm, January 25, 2009

I did not like the script very much for this movie and overall I hated how Rob Zombie gave everyone long hair. Why do they all have to have long hair like he does? Does he find it scary? I do not recommend this Halloween over most of the others. This movie even tampered with the original scripting for why Michael was put in an asylum in the first place and how he got the mask. If it was accurate to the original story, filling in the gaps, it would have been fine, but overall I was not impressed and I do not think Rob Zombie would be a good director for "H2" either which is the worst name I've ever heard. He is tampering with my favorite slasher, and I do not like how he made this film. I hope the next one doesn't ruin the series even more. Overall, this movie gets a 3/10.

Posted By: thefritz at 4:22pm, January 19, 2009

How does someone take something thrilling and make it mundane? I don't know how, but Rob Zombie sure does, as is all too evident from his remake of John Carpenter's classic film Halloween.

This film is a disappointment on many levels, which has as much to do with the daunting task of trying to recapture lighting in a bottle as it does with the director's attempted vision. The original Halloween, a film widely regarded as the beginning of the slasher genre in horror, was a film about suspense and tension that built to a fantastic climax that left the viewer breathless. Zombie however, thought it would be more compelling to attempt to validate Michael Myers by giving us a lengthy look into his childhood. This seemed to be in an attempt to ground his evil nature in an abusive setting but the result was the same as watching a bully in a bad teen sex comedy. Zombie turned Michael Myers from a silent, unstoppable stalker into a bully with a mommy complex.

The worst part about the excessive gloaming over the young Michael Myers is that, by the time we move to "the present" we're only at the end of Act 1. That is the real tragedy of this film; the self-indulging Zombie proliferates as a story is only interesting to Rob Zombie. In his attempt to make Myers a darker, scarier character Zombie forgot what made him so fascinating in the first place; the fact that he was a mystery. A shape, if you will, and nothing more. Something almost alien that you cannot sympathize with, hence the terror. Michael Myers isn't the anti-hero, he's the villain, plain and simple.

I can't give any real praise to this film because it's just not very good. This is an observation based more on Mr. Zombie's career as a director than comparing his version to the original. I didn't like his first film at all, but thought that Devil's Rejects was a fantastic Sophomore outing and a marked improvement on his abilities as a storyteller. Halloween makes me wonder if that was more of an accident than an auteur perfecting his craft. Because when it comes down to it, even the poorest horror films should at the very least NOT be boring, as this film all too painfully is.

Great movie, and hopefully the second will be even better than this, action, suspense and gory horror, amazing!

Halloween: The Beginning

Posted By: fantasmagora6 at 3:31pm, January 14, 2009

I guess its all in opinion....but in my eyes this movie was interesting...it wasn't scary but it was very intriguing...the way he aproached the story...right from the beging of how it started was brilliant...I guess it lacked as a horror film...but it was a good concept...

Posted By: MikeIsEvil at 4:01am, January 14, 2009

When I heard of a Halloween reboot, I was excited(the franchise NEEDED one). All hope was lost when I saw that Rob Zombie was directing AND writing it. Needless to say my gut instinct was correct and it was horrible. From the terrible CLICHE(!!!!) backstory, to the pointless vulgarity to the annoying cardboard characters that werre literally just there to die to the half assed remade second half. He didnt know what he wanted to do it seemed. No suspense, no scares, not even cheap scares, no nothing. Just boobs, gore and "fuck"....I was so happy for a Halloween reboot, but Rob Zombie ruined what could have been the start of a new, great Halloween franchise. Ill give it a 1.

Posted By: MR.PANCHITO at 5:11pm, January 13, 2009

its a good movie considering that rob zombie made it his own mostly except for the second half of the film which was rushed into the killing scenes.the mask is awesome in this movie and the little michael story was good it could haved used a better dr loomis.other than that i cant wait for rob zombies h2 sequel.

Posted By: theintruder138 at 3:12pm, January 13, 2009

This movie is kind of a guilty pleasure, i do enjoy. I think the young Myers fucked up the whole character for the rest of the movie. The acting is decent.

Posted By: spiderbucket at 1:03pm, January 9, 2009

The original always gets the kudos for being fresh - which it was. But this is as good as it gets on the re-make front. Rob Zombie is a fan like the rest of us and obviously did his best. And his best is pretty damn good.

Posted By: HoozKook at 11:55am, January 9, 2009

This dose not match up to John Carpenter's original but I still liked it. I don't agree with many fans when they say this film "Raped the series" because I think Rob zombie made this movie his own. If your a fan of the original series and want something new then check this out. But if you feel that such subjects as violence, gore and rape are to strong to be in a movie, don't see it.

Anyway a solid film thats very entertaining, I would recommend renting it

Posted By: mikethademon at 8:04pm, January 8, 2009

I thought this was very good for a re-imagine. Not as good as the original, but I liked the story. It was a little dramatic though. I know there really isn't supposed to be a story, It's evil on two legs!(Dr. Loomis/R.I.P). I'm looking forward to the sequel!

Posted By: halloween9movie at 9:33am, January 6, 2009

Finally someone breathes new life into Halloween Rob Zombie created a Prequel and a remake that really showed Michael's anger none of the other movies ever done that

Posted By: Fungii at 8:09pm, January 2, 2009

Nevermind that the original is a classic and didn't need to be remade, what's with Rob Zombie's fascination with white-trash scumbags? All his films are filled with these tiresome characters and you have to wonder if he's ever going to make a film without them. Enough already! And I'll die a happy man if I don't have to watch his talentless wife in another movie. Please. There's a lot wrong with this movie and most of the blame lies with Rob Zombie. Of course, he's signed up to direct the sequel, so we're stuck with him making basically the same movie for the fourth time. Ugh.

Posted By: capkronos at 7:31pm, December 30, 2008

Yawn. Another loud, pointless and illogical remake utilizing music video style editing cuts every two seconds, spastic shakycam during nearly all the horror and action scenes (Note to future filmmakers: This technique is NOT cool or stylish, it's annoying and played out, so lay off), a bunch of obnoxious cretins screaming vulgar dialogue at the top of their lungs and a once ambiguous and eerie presence reduced to a pro-wrestler sized behemoth explained away in wholly cliched terms (Serial Killer Stereotypes 101, anyone?). Do people nowadays need to be spoon fed every last detail because they're either unable or unwilling to engage their imaginations anymore? Rob Zombie apparently thinks so.

Just like most other mainstream American horror films of late, this mistakes being unpleasant, gory and dreary with being suspenseful or scary. And at the end of the day it brings nothing new or interesting to the table. A waste of time.

Posted By: the_apocalypse484 at 3:07pm, December 30, 2008

Rob Zombie's Halloween was an interesting movie. He did a good job of modernizing the plot and making more action. It seemed to me that Michael Myers had a multiple personality from the stressful life at home. Tyler Mane is an underrated actor who does a good job of bringing Michael to life. Scout Taylor-Compton also does a good job of looking terrorfied.

Posted By: HalloweenFanatic78 at 12:15pm, December 30, 2008

This was a masterpeice of a movie! Rob Zombie made himself proud! As did the cast. Tyler Mane was an unbelievable Michael Myers. He wasn't just a man in a mask running around. He was like a true actor. You would swear that Michaels mask had different expressions, but it's just Tylers amazing acting. Scout Taylor-Compton was an amazing Laurie Strode. She wasn't a perfect little girl like in the original, she was a good girl, but with attitude and actual PERSONALITY!!!!! The chemistry between all the actors was phenominal. This is a truly amazing addition to the already record-breaking series!!!

Posted By: jasonvoorhees601 at 9:25am, December 29, 2008

This excellent remake does not at all deserve any negative reviews. This is the best horror remake I've seen since The Hills Have Eyes. Rob Zombie's image of a darker Michael Myers was amazing. Even though this is not as good as the original. The acting was great, music scary and somewhat original, filming locations were almost the same as the original, and the plot delivered. If you are a TRUE Halloween and Rob Zombie fan, then this is a movie recommended for you.

Posted By: whitewire at 2:52pm, December 28, 2008

This is the worst remake of a horror movie since Psycho (which was just pointless). Let me start by saying I LOVE horror remakes. I love horror movies, but lets be honest, even the best and most iconic horror series have a lot of room for improvement. Especially since when remaking you can take parts that worked and eliminate what didn't work. Platinum Dunes kicks ass, and improved Amityville, TCM and I suspect their Friday the 13th will kick ass.

Zombie took the best horror villian of all time, Michael Myers, who is supposed to be just pure evil, and turned him into a white trash, crybaby brat kid who snapped. Boring. I am so disgusted with this remake. The soundtrack is ridiculous. Michael Myers is ridiculous. The acting is laughable, Malcolm really disappointed. The entire Myers backstory is terrible.

Again, I love horror remakes, I think the horror genre is the perfect genre to do remakes for. Most horror remakes are better than the originals. Halloween is the worst of the remakes and I put in the same boat as the Psycho remake, The Fog and Black Christmas, which are the only remakes that disappointed me.

Finally for the record, I love Zombies House of 1,000 Corpses and The Devil's Rejects. Great movies. The whole white trash thing works really well with those movies. But I did not want the Myers family to become an extension of the Firefly family, which is exactly what Zombie did.

Posted By: tarman82 at 2:15pm, December 28, 2008

This movie was ok,I thought this was one of the better remakes out there but I think the fact that micheal was normal up until that halloween night, and is suddenly taken over by this force, like in john carpenter's is alot more impactful, and it didnt appear micheal was an unstoppable force, just a big crazy dude wasn't what I, and alot of halloween fans were expecting,I did like robs atmosphere for the movie, updated and in the right direction,I think the original is far better, especially the extended version, but this was a very good effort, and I got my moneys worth at the theater, and I guess micheal did survive getting shot in the face since tyler mane has been confirmed for h2 which I'm very excited to see!

Posted By: Slasher17 at 11:11am, December 28, 2008

Why does this movie get negative reviews?! It was fucking better than the original.Yes, the original had lots of good suspense, but the killings were no where as good as in RZ's version.

Posted By: da_linkwent at 10:34am, December 28, 2008

this movie fails, the end

Posted By: DeathRay87 at 2:34am, December 28, 2008

its hard to decide if im happy or mad about this remake. Im happy for the fact that in no way shape or form was this better than the first and it could never replace it, and im mad because rob almost made me dislike my favorite masked murderer from my childhood. TRuly pointless

Posted By: horrorking95 at 5:12am, December 26, 2008

Probably one of the most under rated remakes of all time! I (to be honest) think this is better than the original, it's less boring, it's got more action in it and more of a back story to Michael showing him as a boy which I think worked very well! The scene where he kills people as a boy I found very disturning. This delivers more than the original and I think it should be praised more than it is! Watch it and your see that it's not as bad as everyones saying.

When this movie came out - I still remember how horrible the reviews were - I was very scared to even touch it, because I simply love Rob and his work. Finally I went for it and I was unpleasantly surprised, which is a good thing !!! It was brilliant. Let me be frank - guys - Rob could have made it an adrenaline ride with thrills, chills, spills and tension and suspense but what he did was : TAKE US FOR A RIDE INTO MICHAEL'S MIND. It was toooo gooood - It is textbook depiction of how a Serial Killer is created - how innocence is scarred, how a child takes his first toddling steps towards evil, How evil manifests into notoriety and then ....we understand y and how monsters are born. When Michael was killing, there was no shock or surprise but it was portraying the plight of a child's mind stuck in a vortex of evil.Loved it, really great - awesome - 20 years down the line - it will be hailed as one of the Slasher classics - excuse me!! its not a slasher actually - its more than that - Five thumbs up to Rob Zombie - Please keep it cuming - waiting for the sequel.

This movie was alright not as good as the original but it was an alright remake.

Storyline: When michael was a kid he had a rough time growing and on halloween night he murdered his whole family except his mum who later commits suicide. He ends up in a mental hospital and grows up to be the michael we all know and love and from that point on its the same as the original pretty much, just with added violence. 10/10

Acting: It was all fairly good acting no one really stood out that much except for michael of course. 8/10

Special Effects: Think of it as the original halloween just directed by a gore hound. Although it wasn't too gory the few deaths that did happen didn't hold back with the violence. 8/10

Best Scene: When michael teaches that so called "bad ass" bully a lesson. 7/10

Ending: Michael is shot and killed (but we fans know michael can never die) 7/10

Overall this movie didn't stand out much out of all the horror movies Iv'e watched it had good moments and bad moments like most movies, just more of the bad moments. I give this movie 6.5/10

While I dig Micheals new look,I'm rather angry at Rob for turning this into another gore flick. The original was about suspense and tension, not a high body count and nudity.I like how he humanized the Micheal Meyers character and enjoyed the amount of depth that was added to his character. My gripes, however, far outway the good I see in this movie.First off the body count,it is totally wrong for this movie, the rape scene in the unrated version is totally uncalled for and only serves to show Zombies obsession with white trash. The dialogue between the characters is totally forgetible, and Malcolm Mcdowell totally fails to exhibit the obssesive behavior so well portrayed by Donald Pleasance in the original.I also can't tell when the hell this movie is supposed to take place,i.e. the soundtrack and wardrobe don't match the fact that the characters are walking around with cell phones. All in all my main complaint about this film is that it brings to much unneeded filler and not enough of the original movies spirit. On one more note,Rob Zombie needs to stop putting his wife in his movies, she can't act, she's annoying, and the best part about this movie is that she's not in the whole thing. In conclusion,if your going to remake a classic movie of any genre, don't skim the original and make up the rest....Well except for the Shining.

Posted By: cherrybeat at 9:58pm, December 12, 2008

This wasn't as good as I thought it was going to be. Sure, the intro was good, but the vulgarity just ruined it. I was disgusted at some parts, and tempted to turn it off. It was nothing like the original. Very few horror movie remakes are anything worth watching. This movie is good for a laugh, but not much else.

Posted By: megalodonbite at 6:32pm, December 10, 2008

I had to write this review due to my recent obsession with remakes of horror films. Many people seem to hate the idea of a remake because they believe it can never truly live up to the original. This is true to a certain extent, however the remakes almost turn them into a completely different feel or kind of film. So there are other types of things to appreciate. Such as the difference between the original Amityville Horror and the remake (which blew the original away). Texas Chainsaw the Beginning pushes the idea of Leatherface to the limit giving us the gore we as horror fans dreamed about for so long. Hopefully Friday the 13th will live up to this as well. That being said...I just want to extend a great big F-U and thanks to Rob Zombie for completely DESTROYING an excellent idea that could have been great if done by someone else such as Platinum Dunes. You take the greatest horror film of all time, that most fans would crave a remake of, and KILL every bit of potential we have for seeing it come true with your useless, crappy, thoughtless, senseless, unworthy of the plastic filmstrip, worst mockery of Michael Myers to date film. Zombie, I really wish you were reading this now because if you are...the only question I have for you is "DID YOU REALLY THINK THIS WAS GOING TO BE GOOD???" Did you REALLY think you created a kick ass Halloween remake or something? Did you actually WATCH the film before you released it? Did you sit there and make comments while you were watching it such as, "yea, that scene rocked!" or "Michael Myers is bad-ass in this one! WOW!?" You obviously did. So this tells me you have NO CLUE how to create a good horror film if your life depended on it. When I first learned that YOU of all people were making this film, I was ready to get drunk and jump of the nearest bridge but I still gave it a chance. And what did you do? You DESTROYED it. Do me a favor and stay away from remakes...FAR AWAY. I just needed to get this out. Michael Myers is truly dead :(

Posted By: tom holiday at 11:51pm, December 9, 2008

the movie was pritty bad. I would have liked it better if you done you own thing then to rely solely on the original for inspiration. I would have kept the characters strong then to have it solely be about michael story. I would have updated the score a little bit. Kept the orange lettering like the original. I would have kept the same michael but added new scenes completely. I don't think the audience should feel sorry for michael. I sure don't. Maybe next time you will do better.

I loved it

Kick Ass movie redone the Zombie way!!

Posted By: killerkong56 at 2:55pm, December 7, 2008

not a good movie at all. the cursing was stupid, the shaky cam is gross, the lighting is poo poo, and the backstory is boring and ugly.zombie killed this movie. don't let him touch anymore classics. pleeeaaase! suckish movie!

Posted By: patricktullius at 2:30am, December 6, 2008

it was okay.. not the best, but not horrible

Posted By: Quint's Machete at 10:37am, December 4, 2008

Awful film!!! Donald Pleasence would turn over in his grave. RIP Mr.Pleasence...you are Dr.Loomis, McDowell doesn't come close to your great performance!!!

A good remake.
I dont know why people dont like it

Posted By: JohnnyHorror30 at 8:29pm, November 30, 2008

I loved this movie! I also Loved the original, I think that with 29 years between both films its safe to say that the 2007 was a bit more violent and had a ton of nudity and sex scenes but that is what our generation has become and we are to sensitized to films nowadays so writers and directors tend to go overboard and do what ever they can to be the most over the top movie, well horror in general. I like that this remake had a backstory on why michael myers became a psycopath as in the original they gave you that disturbing unknowingness of his character. Like I said I like both movies but don’t compare them because of the time difference in each film. But the original is the best movie for halloween night to watch durning trick or treat time.

Posted By: daltonio823 at 11:10am, November 30, 2008

This was THE best Halloween movie yet, including the original. I loved it! I just wish Rob would come back for the sequel!

Posted By: NurseTonks at 2:01am, November 24, 2008

I freaking love ROb Zombie..... and I liked this movie souly for the backstory of Michael Myers. Everybody and everything needs a backstory. I loved it.

Posted By: terrornights at 12:51am, November 24, 2008

horrible piece of crap

Posted By: kaicooper at 11:06pm, November 23, 2008

i didnt care about the CLASSIC Original while watching this fucking porno REMAKE .. i like it very much .. but the way he was killing girls was cheap .. i donno why.. but its good movie .. waiting for the sequal .. come back ZOMBIE but with good acting and no more porno

Posted By: rusted31 at 10:34pm, November 13, 2008

I loved this. The original is my fave Horror film of all time but I thought Zombie did an OK job with this. He botched the supernatural elements of the character and I didn't like it that his family were redneck white trash but it is Rob Zombie after all. I liked the brutality with the kill scenes , nade such a refreshing change from all the torutne porn which was/is going around and this film had some genuine creepy moments. Young Michael wearing the mask and killing his sister for the first time was one of them and the third act become relentless with his pursuing of Laurie. Doesn't come close to the masterpiece that is the original but of course it wouldn't, no matter who directed this remake so haters need to build a bridge. The climax was edge of the seat stuff and I would love to see a sequel, or better still a remake of Halloween 2.

Posted By: gorehound62 at 10:25pm, November 13, 2008

why did rob zombie have to ruin one of the greatest horror films of all time? i restect zombie with what he did with 1000 corpses and the devils rejects, but this is garbage. im not trying to say its a completely horrible film. its not a bad slasher film. but to disrespect the original film by putting its name on it, and trying to recreate a classic, is just not good. zombie tried his best to sex up and gore up the film to make it more shocking, witch im all for, but it ruined what made the original so scary. i love gore. but the original halloween was frightening without the use of excessive violence. it just relied on good old fashioned scares. all in all, its a decent horror film. but, it spectacularly failed in trying to recapture what the original did.

Posted By: Kevlar at 7:44pm, November 11, 2008

It was gory, scary and had good acting. ONE thing this movie didn't have was the atmosphere of the original.

Posted By: yeonightmare at 6:37pm, November 8, 2008

I almost dont want to say it, either because the first is such a classic, or people will hate on me. ha but i will, in my opinion, Rob Zombies Halloween is better than the original. Giving the man behind the mask a new life, showing us his mind, and what happened before the escaped killing spree, as well as his reason for kiling. I cared about the characters, the Dr. was better than the original and Scout Taylor-Compton actually looked like a highschooler (a hot one at that) as jaime lee curtis looked like a 25 year old. I lied it better, plain and simple sorry John Carpenter, your still the shit, Zombie just may be better.

Posted By: dan_madge at 10:52am, November 3, 2008

Alot better than I was expecting from a man who made two utter fucking abominations such as House of 1000 Corpses and its pointless, shit sequel. Coulda done without that whole backstory, but it's the only remake done well, besides Dawn of the Dead 2004.

Posted By: sweetestsadist at 10:34pm, October 25, 2008

Wow, I'm surprised to see so many positive reviews of this movie on this site. Everywhere else I hear or read about this movie keeps hating on it because, "HE SCREWED UP MICHAEL MYERS CHARACTER!" I will say this now. Michael Myers had no character to screw up. Get over it, you haters. Michael Myers in the original Halloween is the blandest villain in any horror movie ever made. Dr. Loomis carried that film. I admit that Rob Zombie just gave Michael a textbook serial killer history, but he did it well and I give him kudos for attempting it. I applaud all of you that gave this movie a high rating for actually watching the movie and not trying to compare it to the movie you thought was cool when you were eight years old and couldn't let it go. It's not the most creative movie, I admit. But it is superior to the original (which is by my favorite horror movie director, John Carpenter but I give credit where it's due). Now to finish on a tangent, Rob Zombie really seems to like A-cup nudity doesn't he?

Posted By: EViLPiXiE33 at 6:43am, October 24, 2008

I saw this movie three times in the theater

I thought Rob did a great job telling his side of the Michael Meyers story.

The Original Halloween is still a Masterpiece of course

Posted By: Dr.Gonzo at 9:44pm, October 23, 2008

Zombie did a wonderful job bringing michael myers back.everything was done well.the obsession with the masks was a good idea.i thought it was great.

Posted By: Acathla at 11:03am, October 23, 2008

The original Halloween is one of my favorite movies. I love the entire series. Own them all on dvd and grew up watching them. That said, Rob Zombie's Halloween is an excellent remake to this beloved franchise. Everything about it is great. I love the brutality Zombie brings to it. He has created the most brutal Michael Myers of them all. Every actor brings a top-notch performance and the movie never lets up until the end credits. Can't wait for the sequel; even though Zombie has nothing to do with it, he has set the bar high to carry this series for years to come.

Posted By: RiKAnSolja1 at 12:01am, October 21, 2008

I think it would have done better if it was not a HALLOWEEN film. It was a good story, but I only found Michael Myers scary when he killed for his own pleasure not because he had a bad childhood.

Posted By: SniktSnikt70 at 12:16pm, October 20, 2008

I really liked it, then again anything with Myers is likely to get a multiple viewing from me. Zombie's passion for the genre came through brilliantly. Also, Captain Spaulding's cameo was enjoyable.:)

Posted By: Callum-Da-Grouch at 12:04pm, October 20, 2008

This was a ok movie!
It felt a bit...unorganized!
It spent way to much time with his childhood, which was un-nessary.

Posted By: Guitarded at 11:06pm, October 13, 2008

I know i KNow, No one can redo Halloween, its a crime, blah blah blah. Truth be told, this movie is fucking good, i dont give a flying fuck if you're too blinded by your love for the original (which i adore as much as the next guy). this is another RZ masterpiece.

Posted By: WinterRaven at 11:24pm, October 12, 2008

I liked it better then the original and liked that he explored just how messed up his childhood was. My major problem was with the ending of the movie. It should have been over about 15 minutes sooner then it was.

Posted By: tonikeen at 4:54pm, October 12, 2008

i actually liked this one more than the original

Posted By: HisNextVictim at 6:17pm, October 11, 2008

The first 3/4 of the movie were actually really good, but then the rest of the film was just a reason to show girls slashed up.
It was still better than what i expected

Halloween (2007)
[Circuit City 3-Disc Unrated Limited Edition (OOP)]
(5.5/10)

(This DVD version/review is NOT for the current 3 disc version with the 4 hour documentary third disc, but the one that went OOP shortly after release)

Pros:
*At least they got the "dimensions" of Michael's mask right (see various sequels). If only they did the same with the "condition".
*If you're into cameos from actors who haven't worked in twenty years, seeing this movie will bring back memories (both good and bad).
*Zombie can direct well, make no mistake, but he really needs to put down that pen.

Cons:
*Turning the second act into something similar to 1998's Psycho was a huge mistake.
*If you met the kid Michael was in this film, he wouldn't had a chance to grow-up. You'd just kill him from sheer annoyance right then and there.
*This film is one (if not THE) main reasons why classic Horror should NOT be remade.

What can I say, this update disapointed me. While the introduction and history of the pre-teen Michael Myers was nice as a prequel of sorts, the almost word-for-word remake of that fateful Halloween night fifteen years when "He" came home lacked the same spark as the first time around. Each new actor seemed to turn in a murder-by-numbers approach with the established characters, and the movies new ending really paled in comparision to the 1978 original. While to any fan of the Halloween franchise should see this at least once, it will definitely NOT replace your yearly viewings of the original. If only Rob Zombie concentrated on making a prequel only instead of this watered down attempt to lure a new generation of audiences, this could have been a little more satifiying.

While I'm here, let me let others in on what exactly is on that Circuit City bonus disc. First off, it's in a paper sleeve (not part of the original packaging), that has only one extra feature, a 20 minute discussion with Rob Zombie & three other cast members at Comic-Con 2007. In fact, it doesn't even have a menu, just plop in the disc and it begins. I was wondering why this wasn't just put on the 2 disc as maybe an easter egg or something, it should have fit in the space nicely. Oh, and concerning that regular's second disc....if you missed Malcolm McDowell's personality from "A Clockwork Orange" after he made that film, check out the 10 minutes of Bloopers with him, he's a riot, almost as if this film brought out the lost "Alex De Large" outta him again. It's just too bad it didn't show during the actual movie.

Overall, the extra features were more entertaining than the movie. A movie that didn't need to be remade, but worth one look as to see why not.

(Here's a couple of counter-points in response to a rebuttal of my original review)

*The Mask. Yeah, a bit too detailed. Also in my opinion, a bit too dirty too. Sure, it's been underground for years, but it did give it a "too much" appearance.

*Scout Taylor-Compton (aka new Laurie). Full agreement here, there was no sympathy for her, viewers could care less if she were to live or die.

*Rob Zombie-Future Great Director. I've said this before: "He's a great director but a sh*tty writer. Put down the pen and make someone else's vision for them and you'll do just fine"

*Cameos. A tad overkill though, ain't it? Sure, a couple of familiar faces are okay, but to gather a group of "has-been who who's" felt a tad too much (at least to me).

*Danielle Harris...topless?!!?. This is where others and I will greatly differ, but I've been regularly watching Halloween's 4 and 5 for over twenty years now, and Harris will always forever be that little ten year old girl to me. To see her now topless in this made me feel like Peter Pervert. What's next, Dakota Fanning in the 2015 remake of Showgirls? Child actresses should realize that, it ain't fair but they've got fans at an early age, and we still look at them that way. There's no doubt she should be in this movie out of respect for her in part saving this franchise, but she could have taken the knife while keeping her top. (EDIT: While I originally disagreed with this action, on further thought I was too harsh and have somewhat changed my mind. An actress should be allowed to grow-up no matter what age she was when she first got famous. It took another discussion with my wife for me to accept this more fairly. But to me, she'll always be that little girl in the clown suit Michael was chasing).

*Halloween '07 deserves no time of discussion and will soon be history: You're probably right, but over on say BloodyDisgusting.com, it still gets 20 posts a day. And 90% are negative. Who says a bad remake is forgotten after awhile?

Posted By: 69Ghosts at 10:24pm, October 9, 2008

Rob Zombie is the shit. This is my least fav movie out of the 3 hes done so far. I liked it tho, he cant make a bad horror movie in my mind. Cant wait for T-Rex!!!

Posted By: MrHorrorfest at 6:28pm, October 9, 2008

The number one reason I didn't see this in theaters is because Michael Myers scares the crap out of me. But after a couple months I decided to see it. I was so pissed! Haha. This movie was okay. Not so great though. It made me actually want to watch the orginal.

i really like this movie its one of my best im gonna get the 3 disk set !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted By: Protecious at 1:10pm, September 30, 2008

The first hour of the film was the best thing, it was going in such an interesting direction, perhaps it would have been better just ending with him escaping? ... i felt there was two films cramed in here, two different films, the first being a very good psychological look at the serial killer in youth format, and the second being a rehashed unsure remake of the original, the second half took away from the beginning hour and i believe if they just made it about 80 minutes of the begiinning story, overall it would have been alot better, my rating for the first hour is 9, the rating for the remake stuff would be about 6, so ill give this about a 7

Posted By: T-REX 5149 at 2:24am, September 28, 2008

I Felt Zombie has done a fantastic job on Halloween because if you realy think about it its a better then the whole Halloween story line, he kills cause of the curse of thorn thats fuckin stupid, but to just say cause of a terrible environment it made him a psychopath much better then 5 more films of bullshit they need to stop after 2

Posted By: deathtiger at 5:00am, September 13, 2008

Mediocre. One of the main reasons I didn't enjoy this film, was the back story. Michael Myers was far more scary to me, when you really had no idea why he was killing people..that first scene with him as a child has still stuck with me from the original.

I must say that Rob is definitely improving on his director skills, but let's hope he doesn't try to remake another classic horror flick.

Posted By: bigmo_402 at 10:20am, September 12, 2008

This is definitely Zombies best movie and there's no way you can ever outdo the original. There were a few flaws and alot of more than enough cussing but thats a Zombie film. Definitely Worth Watching

Posted By: jigsaw_fan87 at 6:09pm, September 5, 2008

Okay. It's time for me to defend this movie. Let me start out by saying that I am a huge fan of the original "Halloween". I think it is the "Citizen Kane" of horror movies. I've even enjoyed the sequels, with the exception of part 3 or course. Michael Myers, to me, is the gold standard of scary, so I enjoy it anytime his pale face lights up the screen.

So you could imagine my dismay when I heard that Rob Zombie was going to be remaking a classic. Now I am a fan of Rob Zombie the director. Not so much Rob Zombie the writer. I love his style just not his stories. So I was a little miffed, like most people, when I heard he was doing this.

But to my surprise the remake is a worthy remake. That's what it is, a remake. This has no connection to John Carpenter. This is Rob Zombie's Halloween and I enjoyed almost every minute of it. We no longer have the quiet yet heroic Doctor Loomis. We now have an arrogant prick Doctor Loomis, and knowing that he's a different character was fine by me. The movie was intense, actually emotional is some places. By far Mr. Zombie's best work to date.

Really my one dislike of this movie is the character of Laurie. Now I understand the thinking of not wanting her to be as innocent as Jamie Lee Curtis' Laurie, but this incarnation to me came off as a complete stuck up bitch. The original Laurie loved babysitting. This one, not so much, so she was annoyed for the whole night. You can still have a Laurie with attitude and not her be so ruthless. But like I said only a minor quibble.

So in closing I would just like to say that this movie is much better than it's getting credit for. If you watch it knowing that it's no longer John Carpenter's slow moving, atmospheric classic. But rather Rob Zombie's hyper, in your face reimagining. Then perhaps you will have more respect for it. I know I did.

Anyways, until next time...

Posted By: awjhall at 7:35am, September 5, 2008

I had really been looking forward to watching this however I ended up sorely disappointed. The suspense that was such a big part of the original was almost non existent, and the film was so disjointed it was almost like watching three mini movies all crammed into one.

Once again it pampered to the myth that all teens do is either talk about sex or have sex which is now really rather boring. There was excessive bad language and sexual references which put me off and a revolting and totally unnecessary scene where two prison guards raped an inmate in Michaels cell . I'm not sure exactly what Rob Zombie was trying to portray with his version of the film but he would be well advised to NOT try to remake any other classic horrors before he ruins them as well!

I'm not a prude and I love a good blood n guts horror but this was just plain awful!

Posted By: andypanda88 at 12:05am, September 2, 2008

This movie wasn't perfect, but then again no movie is besides Troll 2. People only hated this movie because it wasn't shot for shot Carpenter's movie. The original was so good that there was no way people could ever truly love this version, and that's understandable but not a reason for denouncing it. Yes Zombie does the whole white trash thing, but he does it well and it's entertaining. If you don't like it stop bitching and just watch the original. I personally feel that this version was better than anything that would have come out, unless it would have been a silent film with Jason and Michael in space.

Posted By: sixxchik at 9:59pm, September 1, 2008

i honestly really love rob zombie films and i think that this is one hell of a good movie. its deffinitaly not the original but who wants to see a movie get remade into the same thing. i love the original probably more than this version, but i only have one complaint about this movie and thats who the hell thinks the one chick playing that highschool cheerleader is for one in highschool & she is a crappy actress. other than i loved this movie.

Posted By: gore nut at 11:56am, August 29, 2008

i don't know why so many people say this movie is shit! as far as remakes go this is one of the best I've seen! rob zombie has made this movie his own and retold the original story in the best way possible! its bloody its violent its full of hot teens with their tits out! what more could you ask for from a Halloween movie!?

Posted By: jus10jw at 7:43pm, August 27, 2008

The test screening version was better than the theater release. The theater version gave me a headache and killed my eyes with all of the shaky cam. Either way this should not have a better score than any of the other Halloween movies

Posted By: greybackfenrir at 9:23pm, August 25, 2008

Not as good as the original, but then again what could have honestly make the '78 version better? I enjoyed much of this prequel/remake other than a few elements that should have been shot differently and some scene rewrites, but overall a decent film. Though the Unrated DVD is better.

Posted By: HorrorDefender at 8:22pm, August 20, 2008

I dont give a shit what critics said the movie was excellent. First people were bitchin about how theres was alot of sex, violence and language so wasnt all that in the original.(by the way the original was also critized for having all that) Second people also said Scout Taylor Comptons performance was terrible so i was lauguing my ass off because of that this is soppused to be a slasher film so theres allways have to be a screaming virgin who survives at the end. Third i really liked how the film worked like a prequel and a remake at the same time whick also people kind of liked what didnt loved it and besides that kid who plays the young michael myers is scary as hell and his performance was the best of the movie. Forth people didnt liked the way the remaked part was shown i actually also loved it because it looked so good and the neighborhood looked and was the same used in the original. Fifth the new michael myers looked perfect strong, big and scary and also Malcomn Mcdowells performance was also excellent he did looked alot like Donald Pleasance in fact everybody did there best Rob Zombie directing, Danielle Harris and all the other actors acting so watch it and enjoy the ine of the greatest remake of all time.

Posted By: Doc Clockwork at 12:19am, August 18, 2008

A promising beginning undone by a completely shitty third act. Whoever played Laurie Strode was so annoying I wanted to reach through the screen and stab her myself. They should have ended it before Michael got to Haddonfield and just called it a prequel.

Posted By: summer_nights at 11:40pm, August 17, 2008

I was originally upset that they were scrapping plans for a 9th sequel and doing a "reinvention"... But eventually I accepted it and went into this movie planning to LOVE it before it even started... I had the perfect positive mindset! By the time the movie was finished I was horrified... For all the wrong reasons! I haaaaaated it! It had lost all the Halloween "feel" the other installments had and was replaced by something that was so... Rob Zombie. It just didn't sit well. Michael Myers is trailer trash... Scary!!! Danielle Harrison's (Jamie Lloyd from Halloween 4/5) Annie was about the only thing I found enjoyable in this movie.

Posted By: dimebag_is_god at 11:11pm, August 17, 2008

I honestly enjoyed this movie, and I truely hate remakes (with an exception to The Thing 1982). I mean, what's the big deal with this reimaging, I mean, Malcolm McDowell is the next best thing for Dr. Loomis, I mean would you like to have seen R. Lee Ermey trying to find out why Michael did what he did. Speaking of which, I thought the boy who played the young version of him was actually pretty good. Also, the blood is what I'm expecting with today's movies, I mean it's pretty much blood being sprayed around so much that it's amazing they don't just get a couple of theatre employee's to go into the theatre and spray the audience with fake blood. The premise so basic that an eight year old with A.D.H.D. could follow it. My one problem, why so much noise, I mean seriously, those were the parts that got my adrenaline pumping was when Micheal would pop from behind corners with a loud noise following. Other than that, there's not much to go on about, and I know I'm missing out on alot right here, but I'm too tired to review every single from of this movie. All I have to say to those who are ripping on this film is what do you expect, Francis Ford Coppola to team up with Stanley Kubrick, write a script that makes The Godfather look like a pile of shit and have Lawrence Bender produce it? Those expectation are way too high. Anyway, good movie, and a good remake, give it a shot.

Posted By: 13JasonVoorhees2009 at 9:03am, August 14, 2008

I really wanted to see this film, when i found out it was coming out..once i saw it, i thought it was alright. I'm not saying it was a bad movie, but it just didn't make me feel like i watching a halloween movie. Don't get me wrong it's way better than Halloween 5, 3, and resurrection, but i thought it could've been better. Also I know this is Rob Zombie who directed it, but did there have to be so much Cursing every second, i mean teens don't cuss that much..and Also Halloween was never meant for it's blood, just for it's suspense. This Remake gave more blood than suspense, and it also copied every thing after michael myers escapes from the Sancuary. The kills were alike, and the scenes were very alike. In my opinion The girl who played Lori, sucked alot..she was the worst character in it, and i didn't feel bad for her at all, i just wanted michael to kill her..but instead it's the other way around.
Well..overall it's an alright movie, the ending was a little crap, almost like it was rushed alittle. Thanks for reading my review..=)

Posted By: vegansteve at 5:31pm, August 13, 2008

I honestly don't see why people hated this movie so much. Out of a lot of the remakes out today, this is probably one of the best. A lot better than the remake of Dawn of the dead.

I liked the storyline of his childhood and how it built up. I really enjoyed this film.

Posted By: DarKnightmare at 10:10pm, August 11, 2008

AWESOME! Who would have thought Rob Zombie could make a great movie on Michael Myers. I don't care for Zmobie's other films but this one is the best from his works yet!

For me I enjoyed not as good as the original but better than most of the sequels not as good as the original but who on earth thought it was gonna to the 1978 classic stop comparing it to the original which is surprising for myself to say because I'm one of the all time fans of the original. People are complaining about all the white trash in the beginning which I thought shouldn't have all been used but time and time we read this millions of times the actors told us thousands of times Rob Zombie mentioned it billions of times it's a whole new take on the Halloween movies. Michael has been reborn. There was plenty of nudity plenty of gore and plenty of bad language but this is a rob Zombie film. Its his re-imagining of the film things change for me this was one of the best remakes/re-imagining of the 2000's time and time we've seen all the shitty remakes. What do you want another Psycho remake done by shot by shot? 2nd half of the film wasn't as strong as the first. But for me the last 15 minutes were clever. I enjoyed this film.

The only decent thing about the original Halloween is the music and it was a rip off of Argento's Deep Red. Halloween may be the most overrated film in all of Horror, except for all of you who feel Friday the 13th is also a classic. Call Zombie's remake trashy, sleazy, over the top, etc., I really don't care. This film should make taken not as a remake because it is not. What do you want? Another Pyscho remake done shot fot shot? Zombie dwelves into question's of why peolple turn out the way they do. What "creates" a serial/killer and who is truely responcible? Ulimately, we all must take responcibility for our actions, howerver Zombie gives an empathic Michael. We understand on a deep level why he does what he does. Is this movie perfect? Fuck no it's not, but at least Zombie is willing to push the envelope. I would argue that the original Halloween in many ways was detrimental to the genre because of the ending. It has become a hacked cliche and even at the time it easn't that scary. Why this film is worshipped is beyond me. At the time Dario Argento was in his prime making true art from the genre and Rami's far superior Evil Dead was lurking just up the road. I did not not see the theatrical version of Zombie's film so i cannot speak for it, but his director's cut, which i had a pre-screen copy of is, with all of it's faults, one of the better recent american hooror films. Besides, when all of you Halloween fanatic heard Zombie was to direct, just what did you expect from the man who made the best american horror film of the last few years (Devil's Rejects)? John Carpenter made one great film and Halloween isn't it, however it was a remake.

I think that people are already biast about this film because of the original. Everyone here on this website liked it. If you don't like the original then get out. But the thing with remakes is that it has a horrible title. "Remake" shouldn't be the word. It should be called "Original Take to an Old Story". Whats the point of going to the theatre to see the same thing you saw in the seventies. Rob Zombie knew he would be bashed but he did his thing and the movie turned out to be amazing. Obviously its not as good as the old one. We get it already but is a new movie. The movie was superb in its defense as well. I thought it was the best horror movie I've seen in a long time. Partly because Rob Zombie directed it but also because it gave an outragous idea a realistic surounding. The humanity in this film was incredible. It drew so many questions in my head. Whos evil, the killer or the ones who made him? Who did make him? Was he even made? Question upon question basically. Also, the characters had hearts. They weren't stupid. Especially not the mother. Even after her kid did that, she never gave up until it was obvious that it was too late. Which of course is where he truly becomes Michael Myers. Great movie. Great performances. Pretty much everything I wish every horror movie I saw was made up of.

Clearly not as good as the the original, but it delivers the scares and is disturbing at times.

Posted By: Anthropophagus at 5:22am, August 2, 2008

It thinks much more highly of itself than I think most people do of it. It starts of very powerful and depressing, then as soon as the other characters are introduced, it turns into a standard 2-dimensional slasher movie with nothing to show for itself. Not terrible, but decent.

Posted By: Jacques at 8:47am, July 31, 2008

I'm going to be honest and say I've never seen the original, and I know NOTHING about slasher movies. Both were before my time. As me to write a 10-page essay on torture porn films, I could write 20 pages. And I have before. But slashers, I know nothing about . . .

The beginning of this film was very boring. For the first hour and a half, I literately had to fight myself not to fall asleep. Myers growing up just was too "I've seen this a thousand times" for me. If they cut that out and just cut to him killing his family, then cut right to Halloween night, it would have been a lot less boring.

From that point, I think the only thing that carries the movie is the feeling of Halloween night. This movie gave me the same feeling as those old kid's Goosebumps books on crack and grown up.

As for the gore, there wasn't really any to speak of. All the kills were cut-away scenes, and all the blood was sparse. Nothing you haven't seen in a PG-13 movie before. But the kills were pretty fun.

In the end, I think I'm just glad this movie did what others of its kind never do: it actually takes something childish, such as the old Goosebumps books, and makes them more mature without making it more boring or sacrificing the same emotional experience. (If only del Toro understood what Zombie now knows when he made Pan's Labyrinth.)

In other words, it's FAR from hardcore or intense, but it's fun. Don't look at it with a critical eye, just enjoy everything the horror genre is amazing at in pure, meaningless, fun form.

Rob Zombie has done it again! anyone who said this movie sucked are idiots because this was a brilliant remake! good acting, good plot, good kills, perfect 10 in my book!

Rob Zombie Brings Halloween into the 21st Century!

Posted By: TheDeadMayTasteBad at 5:53pm, July 19, 2008

"The basic problem with Rob Zombie's remake of the classic horror flick Halloween comes from its purpose. The only reason he should have even considered attempting such a feat is if he seriously felt he could service the film by giving it an update and improving some of its shortcomings that result from the tests of time. Sadly, Zombie not only does nothing to improve the film, he hacks and slashes away all of the mystique the original had and rips open brand new gory, messy, and pointless holes throughout.

The character of Michael Myers in the original film came from a fairly well-to-do suburban family, yet inexplicably turned out a rotten, merciless killing machine. It is pretty essential to Michael's "Boogeyman" persona that he appear as something almost supernatural, and certainly nothing the audience could ever sympathize with. Yet Zombie drags a newly fashioned back-story out for half of the movie, trying to give reasons for why Myers does what he does, stomping all over the mystery that surrounded the original character and struck fear into all members of the audience. It is also a major part of the character of Dr. Loomis that Michael be the impossible case study, one that even the most accomplished psychologist couldn't comprehend. Instead, Zombie makes Michael the product of a run-down, white trash environment.

Zombie saw it fit to remove almost all of the classic scenes that made the original so memorable and replace them with blood-strewn bodies of naked women at every turn... Mystery, suspense, and the creepy aura of the unknown are what make up a good horror film, and the original Halloween is THE classic example of this. Also, as a side-note but something that needs to be mentioned, who the hell talks like Laurie and her two friends in this film? These three girls, the blonde friend in particular, converse as if high schoolers find it extremely cool to drop the f-bomb every other word and sound as annoyingly immature as possible. The entirety of the dialogue written for their parts suggests no one involved in the making of this film has any idea what teenage girls talk like, so one of them decided to make it up and make them all look like total fools. I had already given up on the film by this point, but it seriously made me and everyone I came with kind of concerned that a film could get all of the way through the editing process and into theaters with such odd dialogue that would actually cause us to look at each other with quizzical faces.

My one piece of advice to moviegoers everywhere is to stay at home, dim the lights, and watch the original classic to remind yourself of just what makes a horror movie tick, just how great movies of that genre once were, and just what it feels like to truly be scared - heck, that's exactly what I'm going to do to try and push this steaming pile out of my memory. It's bad when a horror movie comes out that's filled with lots of cheap gore, overused expletives, and pointless nudity, it's far worse when it's done as a remake of a classic. The only people this film will strike horror into the hearts of is fans of the original, and sadly this is not the type of horror they paid to see - they, like myself, will be absolutely horrified at just how bad the abomination of a remake that Rob Zombie's Halloween truly is. THIS IS MY FAVORITE MOVIE EVER!!!!!

Posted By: Lyssa284225 at 4:13pm, July 9, 2008

This movie was actually good (well no duh Rob Zombie made it) Even though it had completely pointless parts i would still rate this movie a 9/10

Posted By: bombthreat at 3:29pm, July 4, 2008

So there it is, the BIGGEST piece of steaming SHIT I have yet seen coughed up and put on the big screen. I HATED HATED HATED this movie. Rob Zombie is a HACK. His arrogance in taking away what everyone loved in the original or just basic stupidity in not understanding what made it work is staggering. The original is my fav movie of all time and there are several reasons for why it worked. The atmosphere, the blue night tones, the amazing framing of scenes with MM way off in the corner and someone talking on the phone or doing laundry off on the other side. MM was not a real person per say, he was the boogie man, when you saw him you couldn’t imagine his face, or the person behind the mask he was just... THE SHAPE, a regular sized person, someone or something who could exist. I mean this new MM looks like Kane, the wrestler (the only problem is Kane actually made a better movie in See No Evil, and that is PATHETIC). There was suspense in the original, I mean the opening tracking shot was like 10 min long! Zombie took all of what made Halloween work and tossed it out making the WORST remake of all time. The acting by his wife is cringe inducing, the script has some of the WORST dialogue ever put on screen, I mean WHO TALKS LIKE THAT!?!?! Why the skids at the beginning, WHY?!?!, is there a reason for that, and holly crap is zombie misogynistic, he really does not like women, I have not seen a movie where women are treated like that in a long time, I Spit on Your Grave type stuff here. Aren’t you also supposed to care about the characters or relate on some level? Where is the strong Laurie Strode character we cared about, the Jamie Lee Curtis!, all we get is this annoying, unmemorable, completely unoriginal heroine. Where is his sense of pacing, the last reel feels like a mishmash of scenes re-imagined that he remembers from the original cut together with some hyper editing. Don’t get me wrong, I am not one of those guys who doesn’t like remakes…I just hope when they do one they take more of what made the original good and expand on that…NOT take out all the good stuff. I am not sure what is wrong with Horror movies makes these days. This should not be that difficult a task, it just takes some restraint which people like Zombie are clearly missing… the great films that scare people are based somewhat in reality…that feeling that it could happen to you...there is also very slow pacing, horror needs time to percolate, it isn’t just a series of visually horrific scenes mismashed together. A few movies have dared to slow things down in recent years and they are what people talk about, say what you will about High Tension’s ending but that opening scene is amazing, another movie out now called THEM (ILS), a French movie is the best horror movie I have seen in a LONG time, the opening scene in that and the rest of the movie will scare the shit out you, it is SLOW, it is SCARY and it is a old school slasher flick. Another movie, Hatchet claims to be old school but it is old school in the Friday the 13th part 6 old school, not Halloween or the first 2 Fridays…there is too much humor and exaggerated characters.
Do your self a favour, go hunt down Them it is what Halloween remake should have been.

Posted By: BUULOK at 7:38am, July 4, 2008

Shit, I liked this. I dunno, I always liked the huge "juggernaut" style killers. Whatever. Im no film critic.

Posted By: Chariot at 5:16pm, July 3, 2008

I hate to say this because I am such a BIG 'Halloween' fan, but I was just dissapointed. You could tell it was an RZ film with all the trashiness, sex, and language - it just didn't feel like Halloween to me.
It would have been recieved better, I think, if this wasn't a remake if this was the orginal 'Halloween', but it isn't and Rob didn't make this remake live up to the classic, like a good remake should, instead I left the theatre in shock of what I just saw.

The only thing I liked was the look of the film. That's it.

The plot didn't make sense, like no questions were answered - it was predictable 'oh yeah a boy grows up in a white trashy home so he has to kill' and the mom. Why did she have to be a stripper? (that just angered me). And what was the point of Deborah's boyfriend? Just another white trash character in this movie and someone for the young Michael to kill?
And so why did Michael have to kill Laurie? Because he loved her? That I wanted to know and didn't find out. And the ending - what the HELL?

Err. It's just it's 'Halloween' you would think Rob Zombie would of got a clue and thought 'I have to deliver', but no he delivered a typical horror film that I was dissapointed in and it didn't have the suspense that the orginal had.

I give this movie 2 skulls for the good cinematography and for Michael being a total badass in the later part of the film.

I'm not sure what's up with all the reviews below me. Computer error? Well, I enjoyed the movie as well, though the first half did have some weak acting. Scout Taylor-Compton made a great Laurie Strode.

YES AGAIN A PERFECT AND SOLID REMAKE THAT ADDS TO MY COLLECTION.

Posted By: BK's Finest at 10:30pm, June 20, 2008

Good movie...

Posted By: FistFace at 10:22pm, June 20, 2008

This movie answered question about a new Michael Myers in a new series. Rob Zombie's movie is a remake not a prequel. The original movie is like a really awesome sandwich that you have eaten and it was very satisfying. Rob Zombie attempts to remake that sandwich by using the remains of the sandwich which are floating in the toilet but he thinks dressing it up with some lettuce (gore and some abused twisted childhood angle) you'll look past all the crap. The remake is nothing more than a sh!t-sandwich with a bunch of cliche' junk served on the side.

Michael from the original series was a normal kid who became possessed and hence unstoppable. The "real" Shape from the "real" movie makes you fear him. RZ tries to make you relate or get to know him.

Rob Zombie's movie does not show you anything about the original Michael Myers. It is a new Michael Myers. If it was about the original Michael Myers then the parts of the movie that were in reference to the events occur the night he came home would have been shot for shot.

You can tell that RZ cares more about his image of being "spooky" than making a good movie.

This movie had as much to do with the Michael Myers story as Halloween 3.

To everyone saying "I liked how they explained his childhood."
NEWSFLASH! This is not Michael Myers childhood; this is the Rob Zombie's counterfeit version of Michael Myers' and his childhood.

This movie is comprable to people who watch the original Batman and then go around saying "Joker killed Batman's parents." Then you (who know) can say maybe in the movie but not in the source material.

RZ counterfeit stands alone from the Halloween series. It is not connected and it does not mesh up with it.

As far as I'm concerned Rob Zombie owes me 109 minutes and 8 bucks.

As far as buying his dvd...I guess I can go take a dump and save 14.99.

Not to Great Rob Zombie Kinda Over did it with micheal myers.other then that Rob shouldnt do remakes anymore.

Posted By: Death Warrior at 8:46pm, June 16, 2008

This movie was amazing. It answered some questions that I was wondering, like how did Micheal become so evil, or where did he get his original mask from? I really love this movie. The original movie was great too.

Posted By: The_Shape7 at 3:03pm, June 13, 2008

This movie was one great big dissapointment! what people fail to realize Michael Myers WASN'T in need of depth in character, doing that totally destroys The Shape's Mystique he was totally exploted and reduced to a white trash family! there for making him a typical serial killer in a mask because he was a product of his enviorment. Rob Zombie spent WAY to much time on his background and didn't bother to pay attention the rest of the film sence he claims he so up tight on details then when the fuck was it supposed to take place if it was 17years later? It sure as fuck wasn't in the 70's not to mention that linda made a phone call from a modern day cell phone! Fuck RZ and fuck this movie it shouldn't of never been remade in the first place and the final mistake RZ made was giving Michael motive! There wasn't any real method behind Michael's madness that's what made him so scary because he was unpredictible and you didn't know very much about him. I just think RZ's Halloween is the basatard child of the series and to me it's bullshit that this is what we get for a last Halloween movie a shitty fucking remake.

Posted By: superbum at 11:01pm, June 5, 2008

I liked it very much. It was hardcore and unrelenting and modern. The scene of Michael kicking the truckers ass in the bathroom felt so fucking realistic...the intro music (Rush!), sound effects, acting, angles, etc. all came together perfectly for that sequence.

This is coming from someone who didn't grow up w/ the original.

Posted By: Domino19 at 3:16am, June 5, 2008

Well the orginal Halloween is one of my all time fav. movie so i was really hard on this one. So I loved how it went into detail about Mike Mayers childood and i loved the blood and guts but it just wasnt as good as the orginal.

Posted By: norman4477 at 11:17am, June 4, 2008

who the hell rates these movies on this web site. they said halloween was one of the worst remakes ever...fucking lame!!!!!! rob zombie fucken kicked ass with this remake. and gave michael myers some depth and character. fuck the asshole who rated this as one of the worst remakes of all time!!!!!they put it in the same catagory as the grudge and one missed call, the wicker man, omen 13 ghost etc....

Posted By: Savinis_bitch at 11:29am, May 21, 2008

What is Rob Zombie thinking!???

Does he feel as a superstar he has the right to tamper with absolute classics?

I think all his films are rubbish as it just looks like he's makng a quick buck, if he truely appreciates horror he should LEAVE IT ALONE!

Posted By: Butterkeuh at 6:41am, May 20, 2008

i'm a big fan of rob zombie, his music and his movies, but this movie was total bullcrap.
I hate it !! sorry Rob but you can do way much better.

Posted By: TMac at 7:14pm, May 12, 2008

I thought it was great! I really like how Rob told the origin of Michael Myers.

Posted By: bivman at 9:12pm, May 11, 2008

I give this movie 8/10. One, because it is a Rob Zombie Film and Two,because I love how he gave us the origin of michael Meyers. Although we see Michael kill his sister in the original, we sort of see why Michael does this in the first place (even if the reason is because he is just an unbalanced child).

I have to disagree with the BD reveiw in the fact that they say they dont know why Michael becomes a mute. They actually do tell you why. It is when he meets Danny Trejo's character. He tells Michael to look into his own mind and that no one can hurt him in his own mind. Also, during the scenes at Smiths Grove Sanitarium, Michael is seen wearing masks more and more, he is retreating within himself during those times where as he becomes completely withdrawn in his own mind, thus becoming a mute at an older age.

It is hard when movies are remade because they can be like "Dawn of the Dead" or they can become another "Prom Night" when the nothing but the title is the same. Rob Zombie made a very good movie in his own style without changeing the entire movie. Lets face it the movie is a classic and if nothing but the title was same than Zombie would have been slammed for that as well.

Posted By: DiegOmen16 at 2:12pm, May 11, 2008

The movie could of been better if the part that was remaked should of been a little different but besides of that its a great movie filled with a more gruesome michael myers, great acting, tons of blood a story thats gives michael myers reason to kill and long and scary good chasing scenes.

Great Movie Disapointing Ending

Posted By: heatherlindsays at 2:21pm, May 2, 2008

Rob Zombie = Greatness.
The movie was great. My only complaint is I don't like the way it ended. Him in the attic or wherever was a rediculous part. He could have done so much more with the ending. Still a great remake.

Posted By: horrorgirl at 8:17am, April 30, 2008

This was an awesome remake!! I liked how he showed Myers past!! Zombie did a great job and I personally like all his movies!!

Posted By: scorpiokorea at 4:07pm, April 29, 2008

i thought this was a documentary of michael myers. the movie went through alot of his life. the last part of the tried to make the audience jump but kinda failed. im my personal opinion it was a T&A movie or a horror version of 8 mile.

A Great and Faithful Remake. In my top 5 of the year.

Rob Zombie is definatley 3 for 3 in my book.

Posted By: Fridaythe13th at 12:27pm, April 24, 2008

I like the look and feel of this Halloween. I love Rob Zombie's work and I especially like it in this one. I don't see where all the negativity comes from, from Bloody Disgusting. The original is the original, this is a whole new aspect to the Halloween franchise. I loved it.

Posted By: cwatts at 5:37pm, April 22, 2008

Rob zombie does one thing perfect. low brown in your face hillbilly. He knows how to take dialogue and disturb you. Whats creepy about house of 1000 corpses is his characters and how the interact not the death and mayhem. With this film, it just does not work for the old school fans.

He makes myers a monster but one built by his society not because he is pure evil.

I don't like it. That being said if you love zombie and his films this might be your favorite horror film.

Me... its watchable once. 5 out of 10.

Posted By: Carrie at 5:29pm, April 22, 2008

I've said it before and i'll say it again, Rob either needed to remake this movie entirely or do it totally different. he takes some of the best scenes in the movie (michael as a child killing his older sister) and ruins it with his own twist (having him not NOT wear the clown mask). He shouldnt have ruined the perfect parts of the old movie. it was so bad, there are actually no words. Tho I don't know why I'm shocked, I mean have you seen the devils rejects?

Posted By: downward_spiral at 3:51pm, April 20, 2008

You know no one really likes this movie and it makes me mad because I think this is a great remake of the original. It is the original Halloween but with Rob Zombies twisted touch. I loved this movie and I thought it was awesome. Rob Zombie is on a roll with making great horror movies.

Posted By: MyOwnAutopsy at 6:14am, April 14, 2008

Rob Zombie - terrible music artist as well as movie creator. The ideas of is movie are really interesting to me because they never seem to be his own. He did to this movie what Micheal Myers does to his victims.....butchers them. I love how there seems to be this built up shock appeal to Rob Zombie movies (thats called sarcasm) and his movies are about as original as his music.....or at least as boring with very little of any creativity. Thanks for f**cking up a classic.

rob zombies halloween is one of the best remakes of all time it has it all michael myers!!!!!!!!!!!!! and thats all it needs

Posted By: zombiefan09 at 11:26pm, April 11, 2008

Since 1998, I have been a hard-core Halloween fan, and when I first found out about a remake, I was kind of hesitant. Then I saw pictures and a teaser trailer. Then, I was all for a remake. I remember the day it came out, I couldn't wait another day to see it. When I finally saw it, I thought it was awesome. I didn't really like all the swearing. I loved Michael's backstory, the time in Smith's Grove with Dr. Loomis, how Michael escaped, and etc. I don't like the rape scene in the unrated version. I also love the ending! I read about a sequel to the remake that is TBA in 2011. BRING IT ON!!!

Posted By: jimbobutcher at 1:49pm, April 6, 2008

I thought Rob Zombies Halloween was the best out of all the halloween movies! I really enjoyed it! Better actors, Michael was bigger and scarier, much more brutal and it talked about Michaels childhood. the original didn't talk much about michaels childhood which sucked! People who didn't like this movie are just fools! They don't know a good horror movie if it bit them in the a$$! Rob Zombie did a fantastic job on Halloween. Keep up the Excellent work Rob Zombie!

Posted By: aerollica at 1:31pm, April 5, 2008

I thought this film was very good. Sure, its not the original, but its far better than all the sequels to Halloween (1978). The first part of this story, brings a sense of irony and makes you think what Michael would have been like if he had a better, more loving family, than the complete wasters he got lumbered with.

Gradually, he becomes so psychologically seperated from any sense of the real world, that he kills animals and family members and ANYONE whom gets in his way, to express himself. When he goes from the cute blonde kid to the overwhelming powerhouse killer he becomes, there is a sense that nothing or no one can stop him. An evil with only one frame of mind, which is TO KILL!!!!!!!

That terror that comes from your own kids or kids you know, that could become so psychologically impaired to the point where they are pretty much in an existence of their own, with no sense of mercy for anyone else, is a frightening thought. All brought on from a combination of how they were born, and how they were treated, as a kid.
Having a strong bond and love for your child, whom has become evil personified, and not being able to ever know them, as they were, would be amazingly hard to fathom, for anyone.

All in all, I enjoyed this film and its multi-layered emotions and concepts of what could make someone (Michael) become an evil force of nature.

Posted By: cdmenzel at 1:54am, April 4, 2008

Oh come on everyone...
The point of this movie was to forget the orginal and enjoy this new "vision". Of course the original was better, they always are! And yes, the end especially, was a little too painfully dragged on. BUT, Rob's typical make-you-feel-like-this-could-happen-to-your-next-door-neig hbour-tomorrow, like he did in Reject's make this an interesting take on the familiar tale. Heck, out of NOWHERE, both Sheri Moon-Zombie and Danny Trejo easily put on the best performances of their careers.
Seriously, watch it again with an open mind. It will be different, I guarantee it.

Posted By: peepnklown at 12:31am, April 4, 2008

ROB! What did you do!?
1st Michael Meyers didn’t need a prequel (that wasn’t the point of the film).
2nd We don’t need to sympathize with Michael.
3rd We don’t need you giving cameos to your friends in this movie!
4th Its called suspense…used it!
The only thing I liked about the film was Michael Meyers looked fantastic (I wish he looked that great in all the films…and it was good to see Mike kill again).

Posted By: nohandtyper at 9:55am, March 23, 2008

It wasnt horrible. But it definitely could have been better. I liked how, in the original, it seemed that Michael grew up in a decent family. I thought that made what he did much creepier than this messed up family. I also felt that the content was WAY overdone. Sex is not a pastime, and no one (not even high schoolers) swear like they did in this one. If Zombie could (for once) tone down his movie and actually focus on caring for the characters as well as their nature, I think he could have done a great job with this one. I also believe that it takes a true director to scare an audience without threatening them with content (though some films need the worse content to work).

This movie is not worthy of a 1. I think that's pretty harsh considering the trash that's come out the past 10 years. It could've been better no doubt, but it could've been a whole lot worse!!! I myself rather enjoyed this movie. And I would definitely recommend it! :)

I would rather watch Sister Act 2: Back in the Act than sit through this atrocity again. Not even gonna get into why it was awful. Just sucked and sucked hard.

Without a doubt the worst film of 2007 and one of the worst in the genre of all-time. Rob Zombie brings his no-talent hack direction to an incredibly beloved contemporary classic and brings it to the trailer park. There is not a frame of this film worth speaking a kind word about. Not only did Zombie take all of the scares and mythos out of the character, but then he ends up just copying John Carpenter's original film for the last half of this shit-fest. Unforgiveable and offensive. It's a shame this made enough money to warrant it as a "hit".

absoutly loved it. watched it several times. the directors cut was deff. better.

i liked that it sorta showed why michael was the way he was. it just didnt start out w/ him killing his sister one day.

its deff. a must see and a must own. one of my personal favs.

Rob Zombie KEEP MAKIN MOVIES!

Did any of you even watch the sequels? I wonder if you complained so much about them? this was a far better Halloween movie than 4-8 were. Do I love those sequels? Yes. But they are mostly terrible movies with bad incarnations of Myers. This made Myers a threat again. I think its a little passe' already to just hate this movie so much. If you hate this one you probably dont like any of the series. This one helps re-establish Myers in a serious manner. The last 4 films in the series were products. This had some actual artistry put into it and it shows. Was it perfect? No. Not many movies are. But jesus at least the Mask looked good...which hasnt happened since 1981.

Posted By: Zombie Dude at 1:51am, March 2, 2008

Main problems were the characters. I felt more for Michael than the other characters. I think at least Laurie should have been developed a bit more. Michael’s motive wasn't really explained like Rob said it would be and the language was a little overboard and could do with some improving.

Still I managed to enjoy the film and think it's a massive improvement over the later sequels in the series.

I agree completely with jmpollack, this movie is God Awful.. Most Popular horror monsters have reasons for why they can do what they do.. Freddy sold his soul to dream demons, Candyman is haunted by his violent death and therefore kills to keep his memory alive, even Jason kills for revenge because of those horny camp kids who were responsible for his death. But what bout Micheal Myers??
OH YEA its the oldest cop out in the book "He's just crazy" "He's just Evil" therefore he is unstoppable.

This movie was advertised as revealing all new things we never knew about Micheal and what exactly did we learn? Micheal had a white trash family, was apparently very girly as a child and all of a sudden for no apparent reason stops talking and wants to kill his entire lineage After killing his sister (Again for no reason).
Not only that but he goes from wimpy girly boy to a 300 pound 6'6 linebacker who apparently did nothing but hit the gym.

The real kicker was the scene where Micheal Escapes the Asylum.. The orderlies doing everything short of giving him the keys and daring him to leave. It was all so lame. A college kid starting out could have done a better job. Rob is a horrible director.. stick to music for the love of god.. You people giving this 4 and 5 stars have the depth of a warm puddle of piss..

I own this movie. I love this movie probably more then the original, only because I prefer gore and blood over my imagination. Even though it's pretty twisted. Rock on Rob. You know how to make a movie. (:

For those of you who think Halloween was a good or even great film, I am so sorry to tell you, that you have no taste in horror films. Rob Zombie showed a lot of promise with house of 1,000 corpses and it's sequel The Devil's Rejects, both of which I own on DVD, but with Halloween he fell through. This movie should not have been made. There was nothing original about it and the Michael Meyers back story was a complete waste of time. I understand what Rob Zombie was trying to accomplish with this fulm, but he was better off leaving the series where it was. He only made it worse.

Posted By: justincantrell at 5:23pm, February 19, 2008

i dont know what everbody i getting all angry about if you liked devil's rejectsand house of 1000 corpes you should love this film i know i did..gore...check...nudity..check..cameos out the ass..check...maybe it's just me but i loved this movie, and i don't compare it to the original at all to differant movies..the old halloween would not stand out in todays horror movies the way it did back then trust me. i thought this one did.

Posted By: MEAT at 2:56am, February 16, 2008

Rob zombie is a horror fan-boy that big studios throw money at because stupid people like his tripe...and there are a lot of stupid people. real horror fans should avoid it at all costs. no redeeming qualities what so ever. i wish it was possible to give this pile zero skulls instead of 1/2. the only positive aspect of this movie is that it's so shitty it makes you appreciate good horror movies even more.

I enjoyed myself. Didn't break any boundaries, but wasn't NEARLY as inept as everyone thinks it is. So, I can you can all hate me now.

i thought this movie was one of the best remakes in a long time.....the movie was brilliant the acting was brilliant and rob zombie is brilliant

my only complaint is the ending WTF!

Posted By: DJ_Rascal at 8:25am, February 10, 2008

Going into this, you have to understand i saw the original when I was 10. My attention span then at the time was horrible and its one line in the whole movie that explains Laurie is his sister. It wasnt until a week before I saw this did i understand that fully. It never made sense to me through out the sequels which i really did not care for except H20.

Knowing more of who Micheal was helped me to better be afraid. To know what white trash of a family he came from, the constant teasing, the horrific events in the asylum; its no wonder he went completly nuts.

I found the newer micheal (older version) to be more brooding in a way thats not sean connery but very "thats right bitch im gonna feed you those 9"pumps and shove this knife up your ass sideways sort of brooding.

I did in fact enjoy the story more than so much the tweeny bitch with no acting skills and bad style of wardrobe who couldn't scream. I give it a 4.5

This movie is a bloody, brutal, gory masterpeice. It is one-hundred times better than the orginal, which I thought was an un-orginal, boring movie. I know for that last statement, people will flame me, but it's the truth. This remake is much better in ALL areas. The backstory in the first one was explained just a little. A young Michael Myers kills his sister. In this movie, he kills a classmate, in an amazingly brutal sequence, his stepfather, his sister's boyfriend, and finally, his sister. He is then sent to the mental institution. He claims to not remember, even going as far as to ask his mother, "How is everyone at home?"..which she answers, "Everyone is fine."
Just when Dr. Sam Loomis begins to even crack Michael a little bit, a nurse makes a small crack, and Michael snaps, and kills her. The unrated version of these sequences are longer from what I've heard, but it's worth it. When Michael finally starts going after Laurie and her friends, he's already murdered nine people. I won't spoil anymore of the story, but I will say this. There were parts of this movie, even though I'd seen the orginial, that I was downright shocked at. Some people who survived in the first, die in this, and I'm pretty sure that works vice-versa, if I remember correctly. The ending left it open for a sequel, actually, it was more like telling you there would be a sequal, which I am hoping is as good as this movie.

This movie is a brutal, bloody, gory, heart-stopping thrillride that anyone can enjoy. It takes suspense, terror, and brutal, bloody, violence all into one heart-pounding, edge of your seat thriller. Even an hour later, my heart was still pounding. I would reccomend people who haven't seen the orignal to not even bother and watch this one, as it is much better, more explanatory, and downright more suspenseful, and terrorizing.

I never liked any of the Halloweens before this one except H20. This movie was terrifying in theatres.

first of all I liked how it began. I liked seeing the background of Michael Myers. I do think they spent too long getting him out of smiths grove(even longer in the unrated) but besides that the beginning was intresting.

I liked the 2nd half of the movie better than any horror movie besides my other 2 favs The Texas Chainsaw Massacre renake and, the House Of Wax remake. I loved Scout Taylor Compton as Laurie. I thought Michael was one of the most terrifying killers i have ever seen. Rob Zombie did an excellent job of making Michael scary.

Anyway back to Laurie. I thought Scout was the best choice for Laurie. She showed real emotion and horror and, she made the scene where Michael was using a huge block of wood to get her out the attic awesome!

What really made me like Halloween was the ending. It was exciting an excellent scream queen movie. Scout made me enjoy the movie more than i thought I would of.

I give this movie a 9!

This movie was great. I didn't get the chance to see it in theaters, but the Uncut verion on DVD was scary. I wouldn't say it was as good as the original, but it does pull a close second. It gave more details into the life of Myers, but it just wasn't the original. Zombie did do a very good job with the child part of the movie though, and this made it incredibly intense. Again, not as good as the original, but still scary as hell.

I wish there was a way on here to give half a star. This movie was a disgrace to the original.

The ambiguity of Michael Myers in the Original Halloween added to his creepiness. Now that Rob Zombie made sure we knew his entire back story in the movie Michael is now the main character and not Laurie. So after the first hour of crap in the mental institution we are cheering for Michael to be able to kill all the girls.

The girls also are probably some of the most annoying on screen characters I have ever seen. The dialogue was terrible and it reminded me of how much I hated Rob Zombie's writing in all of his films.

Another complaint I had is that part of what made Michael Myers frightening is that he had almost super human strength, that we are lead to believe is power by the evil inside of him. The new Michael Myers is just huge and there is no reason to believe that he is evil, just completely insane.

This film was inept in every conceivable way imaginable. Here's a list of flaws the film suffers from, and just to be clear this film doesn't have any redeeming qualities. It really is a piece of shit.

1. Poorly written unrealistic dialogue and characterization. Seemed like an immature 14 year old with the freedom to go nuts wrote the script. Too much profanity and too much disgusting perversion. NOBODY speaks like this.

2. The plot is uneven and cliche'd. You have an hour of generic backstory, and 45 minutes of a typical rehash of the original film. Why does the backstory dominate the actual story( or reason why people would go see this movie? ) The second half seemed more like the original film in cliff notes form.

3. Rule of thumb, if you explain too much about the villain, you end up killing the villain's ability to be scary. Not to mention turning him into a generic serial killer. Killing animals? Growing up in white-trash? Not only is that unoriginal, it's pointless and stupid. So Michael's a gerbil killer now?

4. The horrible soundtrack. Since when did Halloween become Woodstock or American Graffiti?

5. The useless excessive cameos. Not only were there too much familiar faces, they didn't serve any character purpose for the film. They were just put in for fan purposes so the audience can play "name that famous actor". It's distracting and takes you out of the film.

6. No suspense.... at all. Just brutality and buckets of blood. Zombie totally missed the appeal of the original which was not bloody mayhem. It was pure terror.

In closing, Rob Zombie bit off more than he could chew. He is not a talented writer or director, and he's only getting gigs due to his rep in the music business. With some schooling( he never went to film school ) and maybe writing classes, he could very well be competent.

As it stands though, he's an amateur that shouldn't be allowed to work let alone remake classic horror films.

Maybe he'd fare better directing traffic.

Over-rated! This movie is nothing special.

Posted By: What Is It? at 5:52pm, February 3, 2008

I feel this was the best Halloween film since the second one. I'm glad Rob Zombie didn't just make a remake thats an exact copy of the original. He brought something new to the series and made it into a great film. I will will say that the unrated DVD makes the film even better than the theater verison. Don't go seeing it hoping it will be like the original. Its a new story on the character Micheal Myers that makes it even bettter.

Posted By: brandonsl21 at 5:25pm, February 2, 2008

Ya know the film did NOTHING for me in Theaters. But, the uncut version I REALLY liked. I don't know if I went into the theater expecting the same things in the original Halloween or what but I hated it. But the Uncut DVD I REALLY REALLY liked. I give it a 3 out of 5 and hope for a 2nd film.
