Slasher films have made a comeback, lackluster as most of the new ones may be. Theaters are overrun by remakes of movies that A. Didn't need to be remade, or B. Simply weren't good enough to deserve a remake. Hatchet broke the cycle of monotony, at least. The story behind the slasher was pretty tragic and the kills were painstakingly gory. The plot is pretty average, but offers a few laughs along the way. Just don't try to take this movie too seriously, it's just gory, violent fun. I would recommend this movie to anyone who's just looking for a nostalgic walk down slasher memory lane, as the movie is classic in it's feel and atmosphere.
Cameos from Robert Englund and Tony Todd grace this flick with a few extra laughs, and the movie is simply enjoyable. If you're looking for the next movie to inspire nightmares, look elsewhere. There's little chills to be had from Hatchet. But if you just want to sit around and watch something entertaining, give Hatchet a try.
my new all-time favourite serial killer horror flick. why? i don't know, i just do.
it features an all-star cast like Kane Hodder from 'Friday The 13th', Robert Englund from 'Nightmare on Elm Street' and much more.
the only problem i had was that serial killer flicks were in the 60s, 70s and 80s, and are remade today. by creating an original slasher film in the times that its yesterday's news unless a slasher's remade, they've just wasted films and imagination, because it's the same thing.
an innocent person has a bizarre back story, they come back from the dead to kill people who trespass on their grave or the people they fell victim to in the first place.
still, this has become my all time fav.

i dont understand how anyone is giving this a low rating. it was loads of fun. It kind of sagged towards the end and the beginning takes a little while to pick up but once the characters get on the boat its great. The villain was great. AMAZING AND FUN gore effects...especially when he pops the womans head like a pez dispenser. great stuff. OH and mercedes mcnab (harmony from buffy) is one of the leads. whats not to love?
This movie is fresh and it is an awesome throw back to the 80's with some new school flavor I dont know how people are bashing this movie I grew up in the 80's and love slasher flicks and this is just fun!!! Long live Troma
Why the hell do people like this lame movie? You either have to be topped full of drugs, or drunk out of your skull to like this. This is the worst horror movie I have ever seen in my life. Infact, I don't give it a score, I give it 0. Hatchet is a horrible, badly acted, corny American "horror" with stupid jokes and horrible special effects with obvious fake blood. Stupid sets that are obviously in a studio, horrible moster effects and a terrible set of cast members. This is honestly, the worst movie ever made. Hatchet is just lame.
A delightful little slasher film with some good jump scenes and plenty of gore. mixes all the right ingredients: bad humour, societal criticism,stereotype-wary charactors,i-need-somebody-anybody-its-the-end-of-the-world romance, and a gross and unnaturally strong villian that has a disturbing urban legend background. To top it off its compulsively re-watchable and fun! YAY!
It's a decent (supernatural?) slasher that kinda drags on a bit in the beginning and ends with a blood drenched finale. It had some decent acting and pretty poor effects. But it was funny and gorey and a decent way to kill time. Don't watch this if you want a smart psychological thriller. Watch it with this in mind you'll laugh, you'll cringe and you'll laugh some more.
Good Parts- some very well done gore effects, pretty good acting, some very funny parts, creative kills, very creepy setting, very well paced
Bad Parts- can be too dark at times, some gore effects are very fake looking (ripped off arms? they're clearly under his shirt :O ), plot seems very generic and manufactured
Overall a very entertaining and gory film that will deliever some amazing kills but is plagued by an uncreative plot
This movie was really awesome!!! Today they don't have anymore ideas for films, so they make a bunch of PG-13 crap and remakes, but HATCHET was a brand new slasher flick with a brand new story and some of the most awesome kills I have seen in a slasher movie! I think this movie could represent the return of TRUE horror! THIS is what a horror movie should look like!
the fuckin worst! bad acting shitty practical effects the actual kills werent bad just the sfx and give me a break "old school american horror" give me a break sum 1 needs to study there american horror. i feel u truhorrur i read so many reviews how this was amazin. a waste of a rental.
This movie was a great throwback to slashers of the 80's, it is campy and you have fun watching the movie. The death scenes are just so perfect and this movie contains one of the great decapitation scenes of all time. I recommend this movie to all slasher fans, and it has great cameos by Robert Englund and Tony Todd, and of course, Kane Hodder is the killer. An easy 8/10
Sigh im still recovering from watching my favorite Jason (kane hodder) be reduced to becoming this victor crowley loser. this is the campiest, corny pice of shit ive seen in a while. i was sooo pumped to see this after hearing good reviews, kane, and the fact it claimed to be "true American horror" i havn't been this disappointed since quarantine.
This movie was what you expected. A fun slasher movie. And uhhh, to TXzombieSC, this movie didn't even come close to taking itself too seriosly... That's exactly why the movie worked.
I am STILL to this day trying to figure out what there was to like about this er, um film!!?! The IMDB web page on this film warns you of a "spoiler" alert, and I can't figure out what was being spoiled..Look, films are subjective I admit, but what possible reason is there to recommend this movie? Acting? Script? Characterization? F/X? Can't be the plot(?). Maybe this is one of those films that 10 or 15 years from now we will look at as CAMP and that what was what everybody involved wanted you to believe. And I am a fan of "campy" movies, but that only works if you're not trying to take yourself too seriously...
Bad ass. Exactly what you'd expect. Big, fucked up dude killing idiots; just no holds bar ass kicking. The gore effects are really cool too. A bit short and the end leaves you wanting more, but those are my only complaints.
You know what gets me pissed, I bet the same person who wrote this review, along with most of you below me who users who gave this movie a good review, thought lake dead sucked. How the fuck were they so different besides this movie was a joke, and lake dead wasn't but there were cheesy parts in it that made you laugh? Honestly lake dead was better than this anyway, this was ok though. but lemme know if your one of those people.
i loved it, a good slasher movie for a newer generation that isn't a remake of an old one that tears the franchise apart *cough* seed of chuck *cough *Texas chainsaw massacre. specially loved having Kane Hodder in it and the lack of digital effects
to say that those who rate this movie low, must not be horror fans (because they just dont get it) is bullshit.
i find it hard to describe the disappointment that resulted because of this movie. i did expect the 80's vibe which i was excited for because i love friday the 13th and sleepaway camp and all those...but it DID NOT work for this movie in any way. it just felt stupid and like it was TRYING to be an 80's film. of course the filmmakers were trying for that but the way they went about contrasted awfully with what resulted. the gore is fun and cool but barely saves the film. the nudity, im sorry but who cared. im proud to say that a horror movie does not need nudity to be awesome and really is always unneccesary, pretty much. but it is in friday the 13th and sleepaway camps and all those and for every reason it worked. in this it didnt feel random or sexy, it was just an awful plot device that also failed at a character development. i wasnt at one point rooting for any of the characters, which i found myself doing in real 80's movies. in the end i question if this movie was actually honestly trying to be an homage to the good ol' days of horror, or if they just made a shitty film and decided to call it an homage as a cop out....my vote goes to number 2.
Great film for gore comedy fans.I loved it's no holds barred carnage.Kane Hodder was great as Crowley.Plus it's cool to see horror icons in small cameos.I't won't win any awards for acting but it's scooby doo gang meets backwoods killer vibe is why it's destined to be a cult classic.
Brilliant funny and intelligent, ive never been a fan of comedy in horror movies, but in this movie it just works end of. i just loved it, it had the stamp of somebody who was a true fan of the genre, one of the best true horrors ive seen in years, oh and the kills and gore in it are truly fantastic but dont descend into the stupidity and torture porn of Hostel and Saw, which i thought was fantastic brilliant brilliant brilliant movie, must see for every horror fan

This movie sucked. It was a piece of shit. Horrible acting, horrible dialogue, horrible FX. Comedy/Horror is starting to make me sick. When It's done good (Slither), it's great, when it's done bad, like this piece of shit, it really sucks.

so cool movie and scary and much gore ...but..guys .. why a fucking comedy?? why all ppl now bringing comedy in horror movies?? ... stope mixing comedy with horror plaaaaaaz u fucking peace of shit
I found Hatchet to be well short of the mark. Other than some nice, gory deaths, there was nothing in this film to hold up interest. Shonky acting, laugh-free 'comedy', and a hackneyed plot.
My wife, who is normally a big fan of 80's style slasher flicks summed it up brilliantly:
'I'd rather get raped by Bob Saget than watch that again'
this movie was good but the story isn't all that the best thing to do is to sit with a group of freinds and cheer when you see people get ripped apart! this movie has badass gore! with a ok story
Great movie, similar to Friday the 13th movies but much gorier & funnier. That Victor Crowley monster was badass . I've never seen better gore on any film.
Thiws is definately one of my favourite horror comedies, second to shaun of the dead
I wasn't expecting the movie to be that funny, but low and behold, i laughed. A LOT.
And the gore was amazing too! And there were boobies :D

Adam Greens Hatchet Is A Gruesome Funny Throwback To 80s Slasher Films,Such As Friday The 13th,And Halloween.
this movie is awesome! kinda corny plot but amazing gore, tons of nudity, and funny ass dialoge! it goes back to the roots of 1980's American horror flicks and this is one of the best!!
