This was really boring. I couldnt get into this movie till the very end. Bad...but the undead sis was hawt:) 3 and a half
I'm just a sucker for these movies. I loved it, the performances are fantastic utterly convincing. Emily Browning was simply brilliant and it's so unfair she never got any recognition to pull off her charachter took a lot of skill and she did it brilliantly. Arielle Kebbel was also fantastic and just as good in my opinion the chemistry was fantastic between the two of them they were utterly convincing together as sisters.
I loved the screenplay, there was so much depth to it, but at the same time the horror elements were really good aswell and there are a few decent jump scares.
The direction was also amazing the film visually just looks stunning. The ending is a massive part of this film my only complaint is it maybe could of have been revelead a couple of moments earlier then it was, because i did guess it. It was just really obvious because no-other charachter was talking to Arielle Kebbels charachter. However i still enjoyed the ending and the revelation of who the child killer was, which i didnt guess at all.
had a good and complex story...its good to see a movie from time to time thatisnt just brutal killings and death...it did lack a lot of umph, but the ghost of alex was pretty hot though!!!
What is there to say about a remake of a remake... Well it's weak at best, the young lead is slightly convincing... and I mean slightly. Overall it proves whole heartedly that Americans do not know how to interpret the jaded minds of the Japanese.
Those guys are great at what they do, and remakes are thoroughly unnecessary.
The most notable difference in this remake is the sexualization of the two girls. It's an extremely hollow remake with nothing else more to contribute except the objectification of its young leads.
wasnt bad at all...just not amazing. Elizabeth Banks played great creepy stepmom type. I hated her. The whole time i was like, SHES IN THE HOUSE!! dude seriously, why not just leave? anyways, really creepy...definately rent it.
Lately there is nothing more annoying to me than wasting time and money on "new" films that I later find out are (usually poorly executed) remakes of great horror films, such a Quarantine (Rec), The Strangers (Them), and this film, A Tale of Two Sisters remake. I wish that Hollywood would stop spoon feeding the masses diluted versions of great films lacking of their original tension and true visual horror.
The original is my fav. asian horror film and personally I didn't think this remake was that bad...I tried not to compare them which is impossible but this one surprised me a bit since I was expecting the worse.
Not a good movie, mediocre to bad. Very boring and the "twist" didn't save it, for me at least. I have seen that trick a lot of times before in much better movies than this. The question is: Isn't there another twist? Why are they using the same one? Oh, well...
This movie is alot smarter than it seems... Also the first time in the long while I can personally remember being caught completely by surprise... Not overly special, but sit down and watch it you may be SURPRISED...
This movie wasn't all that bad and wasn't like the rest of those yawn yawn japanese remakes or korean remakes. Here the ghost were like clues not menacing or anything like that. And the ending was a complete mind fuck which I was so pissed I didn't see coming.
So the whole movie up to the ending was decent, elizabeth banks was a complete cunt in the film, and she should play more roles as a bitch. So rent it, it's a good way to kill and hour and 20 mins.
What a hunk of junk. Anyone who loves this clearly has never seen the original and is totally complacent watching plain old boring American ghost movies that are completely devoid of originality or shock value and play it safe with the PG-13 rating.
The one saving grace? Arielle Kebbel. Yes, yes. Mmmmmmmmm
Great. The film keeps the suspense building right up until the very end, and that ending is truly amazing. The great effects, and the creepy atmosphere mixed together gives the film the mood needed in order for it to succeed in shocking in the last few minutes. The ending was truly a masterpiece, and it had me gobsmacked. The movie is really one of the better remakes, and will definately be one to remember for years to come. The clues left throughout, although confusing near the end, make you think back when the film is over, and go "How could i be so stupid". I had several theories in mind, of what the ending was going to be, but again i'll say it, it was fantastically unpredictable.
The plot, was closely adapted from "A Tale Of Two Sisters". The suspensful build-up is very well used to shock in the films climax. The dialogue, and sense of stupidity in the audience when ove,r makes the film a worthwhile experience.
The acting ws definately one of the strong points to the films overall greatness. Fellow Aussie "Emily Browning" was definately a highlight as "Anna". She portrayed the role triumphantly, and was realistic. "Arielle Keppel" was also a standout, even as the supporting role. The best acting by far was from "Elizabeth Banks". She portrayed suspicious step-mom "Rachel", and her effort was exceedingly intriguing, and had moments of true scariness.
Overall "The Uninvited" is definately the best Asian remake made yet, and the shock ending will leave you gobsmacked. My ratins is 4/5.
not to bad actually. Suprising for a hollywood big budget film. Most suck ass. Seeing the girl from grudge 2 in a bikini was nice. over all good movie. I did catch the twist though right from the start.
I've never seen A Tale of Two Sisters so I don't have anything to compare this movie to, which might be the reason I liked this one so much. The story progressed at a nice pace, and the cast did a nice job, especially Elizabeth Banks (hot stuff! haha). But in all seriousness, this was a decent movie, with a nice twist at the end. A lot of people in my theatre didn't understand the ending which just left me baffled. I found it easy to understand, I think most of you guys will too.
It was alright, better than the shit fest The Unborn.

I thought this was an intense and scary ghost story with an out of left field twist that really worked. All 3 of the female leads were awesomely cast, the best of them bring Elizabeth Banks, who easily turned her charm on and off to play her role convincingly. I can't wait for the DVD so I can see it again.
I really can't stand it when studios try to market films by comparing them to other films. "From the producers of _____and____" seems like they are trying to sell a film, because it's similar to one that made alot of money. I hate it, but it works.
The Uninvited probly wouldn't have been intriuging to me because I knew it was another Asian horror remake, but the fact that The Ring and Disturbia were good, I decided to give this one a go. I really wasn't disappointed with The Uninvited.
When it starts up, Anna (our heroine) does a ridiculous voice over monologue, ruining what could have and should have been a very suspenseful, psychadelic scene in the first 5 minutes. There were a few cool looking scenes, particularly with the ghosts that Anna sees. I only noticed they did this 3 times or so, but thats good because they didn't over do it, or vice-versa. Solid special effects, sound, lighting, all that technical stuff was there on time looking good. This film reminded me more of Disturbia than anything else, as far as the look and feel of it goes.
This is a horror movie for the younger crowd, but it wasn't so PG-13 (or "diet horror" as I like to call it) that it really doesn't alienate the hardcore horror crowd as much as Prom Night, One Missed Call, and all that other crap did.
Overall, very solid film in my opinion. Give it a go if you have not already. I garentee you will not be as dissappointed as you would think.
the worst thing about this movie is that "a tale of two sisters" will never be made into a suitable american version. SERIOUS waste of time and money, particularly if you're a horror movie fan and especially if you were a fan of the korean original. another one of those horror movies that bust out a surprise ending that makes no sense whatsoever.
This ending is common in horror films that involve psychological thrillers. This film was not the best of the horrors that I have recently seen, but after coming from My Bloody Valentine 3-D (Remake), I did not want to see an ending like this. This movie had its moments, but it was not amazing. Overall, this deserves a 6/10.

I actually had very low expectations and when I paid to see the movie I thought it was a big mistake. Boy, was I wrong. I'm glad I went to see this movie in theaters.
The uninvited is about two sisters, Anna and Alex that must protect themselves against the evil Rachel Summers (Elizabeth Banks), who killed their mother and started the fire. It's up to them to save themselves and their father.
The film was actually really good. I expected a piece of crap like Shutter and Prom Night, but I'm still shocked on how great this movie was. There was plenty of twist and turns that you won't see coming. There was one scene that was pretty freaky and grisly for a PG-13. The twist at the end is already, worth admission. The acting was great, the story was very good, and the whole movie played out well. As long as your expectations are low and don't expect something special out of The uninvited you'll be happy you paid to see this one in theaters.

I did expect this to be a little bit better. I actually expected this pg-13 horror movie 2 be scary. While it wasn't a bad m ovie it just got boring at parts and the scares wern't scary at all. But I did enjoy the ending 2 tis movie and was glad 2 see Emily Browning in another movie again.
I liked Elizabeth Bank's preformance, but that's about it. The film dragggggggs on with scares that come off as boring and funny. I found myself thinking numerous times during the movie, "When is something good going to happen?" A waste of time and money.
It really is one of the best of the japanese remakes, but it still wasn't a great film. I actually really enjoyed it, up until the ending. I felt kind of cheated, I don't know. But I did like that the movie focused more on story, rather than continuous BOO moments because when the scares came, they successfully delivered. All in all, it was decent, could have been better if the ending went differently, but it wasn't bad.

Not bad. I was expecting a horrible film, with disasterous editing, and CW acting, and from experience (One Missed Call, The Eye) I was expecting the worse. If you go in with this mindset, you might be pleasantly surprised. This is a Teen horror film, a lot of horror fans will be quite bored with the twists and turns that have become Cliche, but for those who can turn off their brains and sit back and just appreciate what it is...I think you might grow to like it, even if you don't want to.
The acting was decent, I was pleasantly surprised by Elizabeth Banks, and the sisters, eventually, felt like sisters, they fought and gossiped, it was pretty fun. You might laugh at some of the attempts at scares, but it sure as hell got the audience at my screening to feel, well, scared, a few times they screamed. The tension does build up very well. My big complaint is the ending, it just didn't work with what we had seen, sure they left the clues, but no one (except me at my show) could pick them up to understand. So a lot of folks left confused, which is not a good way to leave the movie.
But in the end, it was fun, it at least paid its dues to the original, and didn't smother us with sad attempts of, BOO, scary sound scares..catch this one on a matinee, it's hard to find it disappointing when you compare it to the other remake garbage we are spoon fed every year.
