Spielberg as usual delivers some cool effects, some great visuals, and good actors acting. The only problem with this was the change in storyline. They aliens buried this stuff in the earth a long time ago? Really? That's just dumb. And they could have also left out the troubled family drama scenes which really only served to fracture the main story and slow it down.
Thought it was great at for about the first hour. It manages to start off with great intensity and keeps it going for quite a while. That is until they meet up with Tim Robbins's characters. It just goes downhill from there; suddenly feels like Spielberg is dying to relive his Jurassic Park glory.
Hell, they even rip off the velociraptors in the kitchen scene. Except now it's in a cellar with alien surveillance tentacle things. When you think about it, how insanely unrealistic is that? Would the aliens seriously bother searching every nook and cranny of every building like that?
At least they kept the original ending, but I could've done without the predictable Disney catharsis that preceded it.
i first watched this movie on HBO and i loved it...the action ws very well paced and the movie was very suspenseful...all the acting in the movie was very good my favorite being dakota fanning...this movie is a good thriller and one of the best alien movies...
The thing that I loved most about this movie is that it really established the sheer dread of the end of the world. Also, I dont really like tom cruise but he was very good in this movie.
I loved this movie and I'm not a usual tom cruise fan but I couldn't actually believe how good it was. I love that different kind of fear that alien movies give you, and I think this did it

I can't be bothered to got into a full detailed review of this movie so I'm going to make it short and sweet. The storyline was awesome, aliens in tripods craving the destruction of earth. It was good how they were buried under the ground instead of coming from the sky or giant star trek space ships. The acting was suprisingly good, I am not a fan of tom cruise though. The dialogue was good I didn't have a problem with it. The cgi was AWESOME! extremely realistic and deserves points for not having shock value gore. The action wasn't bad there could have been way more. It got extremely dull and boring at times. The ending was a piece of shit and unexpected. Cut the boring, pointless dialogue filled scenes and get on with the action. This movie should have been a land mark sci-fi epic but it passed off as just fairly good. Overall I give war of the worlds remake a 7/10.
This was a great film. Huge scary fuck off tripods hellbent on anhiliation and nothing else. The scene when the first tripod erupts from the earth was waaaaaaaay cool . Pity it was let down by a sudden ending. Hell , even Tom 'maniac' Cruise was decent in this.
