I read the book before I saw the movie. And both suffer the same problem. After the possessed cop dies, the story kind of gets boring.

Very rarely it happens that a film spends way too much time on developing characters. This is one of those times. Could have been a great possession-flick, if the demon had been more present than everyone else.

I thought this was bad. I like Perlman, and Stephen King, but something about this movie aggrevated me.

This movie is okay. Ron Perlman is creepy as the embodiment of evil in the desert, but the movie is too heavy-handed with its "God will save you if you just believe" crap. Besides that, the movie might be worth a rental.
