One of the finest blends of horror and comedy ever committed to celluloid. The type of film that most people may not enjoy, but no self-respecting horror buff could ever deny the greatness.
I frickin love Jeffrey Combs. He is awesome in this movie. This is probably one of my favorite films. This movie has it all, a crazy mad scientist, hilarious story, lots of gore, and reanimated corpses! You can't get any better than that. Definently worth seeing.
This is a very enjoyable B movie classic. The movie features Herbert West, who I think is one of the most enjoyable mad scientists ever (played by Jeffery Combs). The movie is very gory and actually pretty funny. Watch this movie if your in the mood for a laugh and a bloody good time. 9/10, one of my favorites :D!
Jeffrey Combs is one of those great iconic B movie actors who could've easily made it to the big leagues but, either never wanted to or major film casters always manage to look over him. A brilliant, intense actor (i.e. his padded cell scene in From Beyond) this is no doubt his greatest role: Dr. Herbert West.
From the gripping opening scene to the outrageous climax, this film is nothing short of gory well crafted art. A must see.
such a classic its pretty undeniable that once you watch it you wanna watch it again.its campy gorey funny over the top at times but all well worth it, plus jeffery combs is awsome!!!

There is nothing to hate in this film. It is just pure goodness throughout. And what's more is that it was hilarious to boot.
Great fuckin film and FX for 1984, pure entertainment, What balls for Stuart Gordon to stay true to his vision (this is HIS story not Lovecrafts original) and not cop out on gore to get an R rating. (The film info up top is incorrect, it is unrated)

A classic.

its not every day a film is made where a man is decapitated and seen carrying his own head. this is a great movie. jeffery combs delivers his best ever preformance. the gore in the film is great. this is the best of stuart gordons hp lovecraft movies, although least like the story. david gale was pretty freaky. one of the best horror finales ever filmed. recommended to any horror fan.
This movie is just great.
Jeffery Combs did a good job at being
Dr. Herber West, that role was so convincing.
I agree though it was a bit cheesy and the gore was silly
but in all the right ways.
=D
Im prolly gonna get lynched for this but I really dont like the Re-animator movies. I think they are really boring and not funny and just plain mediorce.
Re-Animator was a one of its kind when it came out, I DOUBT IF YOU WERE EVEN A THOUGHT IN YOUR DADDYS HEAD IN 1984. Jacques stick with the new stuff and quit reviewing the older movies. You're not very good at it anyway. Who would give 10 skulls to ALL the Saw movies?

Yet, you have Saw 1-IV as films you enjoy in your profile...isn't that just a bit hypocritical. Saw was an interesting premise, but people being killed by machines is not original. And, every sequel stole from the first. So, your originality argument is right out the window. Please, come again.
PS. Re-Animator is great. I was late to the party and saw it for the first time this year. I laughed my ass off and enjoyed the overall stupidity.
What do I define as a 1-star movie? A movie that was a complete, utter waste of time. Like almost every zombie movie, excluding The Evil Dead, Re-animator is just pointless. The plot lacks any facet of originality and left me with that common “Why did they even feel the need to make that a movie, we’ve seen it all before so many times!” feeling in my gut. There was not a single thing Re-animator had that other movies that came out before it didn’t have. The plot follows the same clichés zombie films have always followed from their birth, and the characters are just as boring and forgettable. Average let’s-get-a-girl-in-bed-in-the-opening-scene doctor, average mad scientist, downright cliché evil teacher—can you name a more cliché cast for a cliché movie?
This is when most of you who love this film will be arguing back: “But it’s meant to be a comedy! Who cares if it’s unoriginal?” To which I have to say that even the humorous moments were pathetically unoriginal. My thought were, “Oh, ha, ha, ha”—I’ve seen that joke so many times I’m not even sure I can call it a joke anymore—“humor, humor, ha, oh, ha.” Once you use a joke it’s no longer funny , and every joke in Re-animator has been used in every predictable zombie movie ever. Same “humorous” situations. Same slapstick gore that isn’t even slapstick to us anymore.
Speaking of gore, what is everyone talking about when they call this “insanely gory”? The gore is just average if not a little below average. It’s the same generic amount/graphicness you’ll see in any and every zombie movie.
I’ll really never understand how movies like this get hailed as being brilliant classics (just because they’re old) and modern movies get trashed for being too predictable. Really, am I the only one who sees the irony in that statement?
Overall, Re-animator was a dull waste of time. Nothing you haven’t seen hundreds of times. The humor is so generic it’s unfunny. The gore is average. The plot is so unoriginal I really don’t know who even had the stupid idea to make this a movie. I can name a lot of other Lovecraft stories that would be much better movies.
Oh, and did I mention most of the runtime is just a bunch of naked men running around? Now THAT is disturbing, not the gore.

After all my years of loving horror films and hearing about this one, I've finally seen. I gotta say, all those years of hype were well worth it. So demented and unrelenting in it's execution, it's not hard to see why this film is mentioned among the like of The Evil Dead and Dead Alive. Just campy, gory fun from start to finish.

I rediscovered this movie about a month or two ago and fell in love with it again. Fucking Amazing! Great story, Characters, crazy gore filled with weird shit and some really funny one liners. Highly recommended for any horror fan. In fact if you haven't seen Re-Animator, then you are not a true horror fan.
WOW! when i first saw this movie i fell in love. great gore, funny at times, serious all rolled into one. it also breaks the mold of your typical zombie movie
One of the all-time greatest freak flicks ever...wow. A decapitated head performs cunnilingus...A cat gets thrown against a wall (leaving a bit of brain for a second!)...Eyes blow out of heads...Giant naked zombie freaks bite off fingers...Intestines attack people...amazing stuff.
Classic horror film. Funny, clever and absolutely disgusting. 'Re-Animator' is the real deal, and an absolute treat for gorehounds and horrorfans alike. Jeffrey Combs is wonderful as the demented Dr. Herbert West. You find yourself rooting for him even though he's up to shit that is against all laws the laws of mankind. Love this movie, and you will too once you discover it. BTW: Only film I know of where a decapitated head goes down on a woman.
