Ugh...A total Suspiria rip-off. Agnes Bruckner and Patricia Clarkson did as well as they could with what Lucky McKee gave them, but it wasn't enough to rise above Lifetime Original (Halloween) Movie. As much as I love Bruce Campbell and Dario Argento wannabees, it wasn't worth the two hours on Netflix Watch Instantly.
Walking through the local Blockbuster one day I saw this in the $3.99 bin. I saw it had the "Hor" label that Blockbuster slaps on their horror movies. This being the only horror film in the bin I naturally picked it up and was pleasantly surprised to see Bruce Campbell's name on the cover. When finally home I popped it in the player with fairly high expectation, these expectations were not met. But I did in fact find myself watching a decent film, this is worth a rent at the least the acting is excellent and the atmosphere is good the story was a bit lacking and it seemed to drag a bit. All in all this movie was pretty average, but still worth a look to any fans of this horror sub-genre
'The Woods' is a psychological thriller with some genuinely disturbing moments. There are a myriad of good choices that the filmmakers made in the creation of this film, but it's not perfect by any means. The plot is probably the best part, and I'll try not to spoil any of it. Basically, there is a strict, old-fashioned private school deep in the forest somewhere in the Northeast back in 1965. It just so happens that something is not quite right in this prestigious institution - girls are disappearing, and soon after arrival the protagonist starts having terrifying visions dealing with the ominous forest that surrounds the school. She starts to wonder if the orthodox, conservative teachers aren't quite what they seem, and the situation quickly devolves into witch-filled turmoil.
The plot is great, but so is the acting. The girls who star in the film portray very interesting, conflicted characters, and the teachers are genuinely creepy, especially the woman who never speaks (I swear that whenever she turned her head there was a 'creeeaking sound).
My quips are few and far between. The most predominant criticism of this film is probably the pacing. It starts a bit slow, and has high and low points throughout. Of course, character development occurs during points of 'plot drought,' so it's not a total loss. Unfortunately, the movie skimps in the gore department, except for a few notable exceptions. I should also mention that Bruce Campbell doesn't get nearly enough screen time. He's in probably 15 minutes of this movie, tops. That being said, he looks good and carries himself well as the protagonist's conflicted father.
This movie may not be all that entertaining, but it's a classic witch story with some teen angst, cat fights, and scary-looking old women thrown in for good measure. I recommend seeing 'The Woods.'
i love lucky mckee movies but this one lost me.it seems like he was going for a new spin on the witch scenario but fell waaaaay short>didnt like it.

Typical, forgetful, but decently scripted and pretty well acted. It has a nice mystery to it. I enjoyed it.

I'd never heard of this movie until I found it on my girlfriends shelf. I saw that it had Bruce Campbell in it and figured I'd give it a shot. I didn't figure I'd like it as much as I did, but it turned out to be a fairly decent movie. It was a little hard to follow and had some slower spots, but all in all it was a good movie. Some of the scenes were pretty intense, and creepy, but the end wasn't the climactic experience I was expecting from the build up. Still, I'd watch it again.

This film is VERY watchable, Bruce campbell Did a great job and some scenes are creepy at manyl levels. It takes off very slow at first and gains its way up there :) Very intresting story.
I actually enjoyed this movie very much. They way I found out about this movie is through Bruce Campbell searches and thinking that this was the original movie that he did that later became The Evil Dead, but silly me, this was far from it. Now, acting is pretty good, story is good, and the atmosphere works rather well. If there was anything I would change though, it would have to be the ending note card, it has no purpose, much like that from the Megadeth music video for Hangar 18, but that's it. All in all, a good movie, and Bruce Campbell is always awesome. If you see it at your local video store, I would say pick it up just for the time killing attributes it brings about.

If you're afraid of trees and limbs don't watch this. Worth watching once
