I more or less hated this movie. Ideas, characters, and plot were all terrible. Hope its the last.
Didnt expect much of this prequel after seeing the so so Hypercube. They really went over the top with the traps and gore on this one. The plot on the other hand seems to not know where it wants to go. More questions then answers here. The end is a cool suprise for fans of the original too.
The first kill was pretty cool but after that this cube is really a letdown. It's like they ran out of good ideas and just said what the hell . I'D rather watch the first one again.
It takes a lot to weird me out. To date, the only thing that I can honestly say weirded me out was the video game Killer 7. The first Cube wasn’t as weird as that, but it tried hard and came close to being on my Top Ten Most Weird list. This movie came closer.
Discarding the epics like Star Wars or Alien, I’d go as far to say this is THE best sci-fi movie I’ve ever seen. It’s almost as perfect as it could get.
The only disappointing aspect is the lack of nihilism as the first film. “There is no big brother, no one watching us except us.” This film slightly destroys that amazing—and slightly original—aspect, but by the end of Cube Zero I think it’s pretty easy to see how things evolved to the nihilism of the first film. This is the beginning, after all, not the final product of what the cube has become and what it is.
On a technical level, it looks much, much better than the first Cube. The gore is also just about copious, more over-the-top, but not quite as in-your-face as Hostel. It just adds another level of coolness to what already is probably the perfect surreal, minimalist sci-fi movie.
I think they could have pushed the weird level a little bit further, as well as the plot. But this still beats out most anything pulp Hollywood is trying to call entertainment.
Amazing! especially when the guy in the beginning thinks that gunk thats sprayed on him is water, truly classic to see him tear away his own face. I didn't see any of the other cube movies before this one so I was probably getting ahead of myself, but the concept wasn't hard to catchup with. I gave it a 7 cause it slows down for to long to often, but really makes you think about the whole project and who's behind it and what the hell is the purpose of murdering these people in extremely painful fucked up ways, but its to much fun to twacth to even think about that.
