Not to happy about this movie. The story had some good ideas but didn't come off right. the killer reminded me of early Jason(before the hockey mask) just not as evil and vicious. Not at all what I thought it would be from the reviews I read.
This flick really surprised me.I give it high marks for acting and suspense.Although the body count was low as compared to 80's slasher flicks, I was highly entertained.Give this movie a try, you will not regret it!
To be honest I hadnt heard about this movie until reviews this site. But it sounded right up my lane. So I found it and watched it. I will say it is an odd one. Not a horrible movie just odd. I liked it although it could have been so much better. The whole premiese of basiclly not only kidnapping a young boy but deminting his soul is kinda different. Your often told that you choose your own destiny no matter what life you led. However this story begs to differ. It ok, not great but goos enough to keep on to the end. Had some parts I jumped in!It doesnt really have much of a so called twist to it, its pretty much a givin from the start. I hate alot of plain creepy music in a movie, however in this movie it was the best part. It really wasnt cheesy and kinda Goth.
ok malevolence isnt awsome or anything its kind of a splice between halloween and friday the 13th.I enjoyed it on a whole mostly the older slasher feel its not ground breaking but i liked it just fine.
The atmosphere is fantastic and writer/director Steve Mena should be given some praise for trying to change the typical slasher story a bit, but those are the only truly decent things about this film.
First complaint: The violence. Now I don't necessarily need buckets of blood and gore to enjoy a slasher (even though it helps), but the violence in this film was incredibly tame. I seriously thought this movie could have easily passed for a PG-13 rating. Hell, the original Halloween is more violent than this!
Second complaint: The twist. I pretty much figured out the supposed "twist" within the first 30 seconds. It was so clearly obvious I actually didn't consider it a twist until I hit the interwebs and saw people claiming it was.
Someone said in an earlier review on here that this film is basically a homage to the very first slasher flicks, which it pretty much is. The problem with that is homages rarely live up to the originals and this film is no exception.
Low body count, very little blood, slow-burning with no real payoff, average to crap acting (which doesn't bother me so much, but for some it might) and a twist people should see coming a mile away.
Worth at least one watch since some people will enjoy this movie, but definitely NOT worthy of the amount of praise it's received.
after reading all the great things said about this picture, i just had to check it out myself. this movie is so under-rated. not your average slasher flick, this one takes some twists & turns not typically seen in horror movie plots. somebody put a lot of thought into this movie & it showed. the cinematography is excellent, the camera angles were effective, too. yeah, there's a couple of cheap thrill scares, but nothing that takes away from the movie. give it a try.
Good acting. GREAT atmosphere. Storyline leaves a bit to be desired (needed to flesh out the backstory a bit more), but didn't detract from the movie much. If you like older slasher flicks, this will bring back memories! It's like a homage to those great slasher flicks of yesteryear.
This movie was great and fittiingly Malevolent. The setting was brilliant and creepy. Stevan Mena delivers a top notch movie with hardly any budget. It just shows that u dont hav to hav limbs heads and gore allover the place to hav a great horror movie.You look at movies like TCM and Halloween they had creepy atmospheres that were key elements in the movie, but by no means am i placing the movie in their status . Bottom line this is a great movie
Not bad, characters and set up are nice. The killer is a little weak and unconvincing. Maybe that has something to do with the potato sack he wears on his head. But the killings are fun and it's got me looking forward to the sequel later this year.
This movie is really good. I have read that is sucks all over the place. When i bought this movie as i do they gave me a discount card. I was happy enough to take that. Then when i got home and put in the movie i found myself yelling at the tv watch out!, there he is! I really enjoyed the old style of the killer being right there in the dark corner or closet. So many movies want to just show everything and there is no suspense. This movie while not the greatest acting, but come one you don't watch horror for acting, it is for the ideas. The idea was fun. The story ok but the movie killer behind the victim in the dark always does it for me. I recommend this movie for anyone who is not totally concerned with great acting but a good story.
The time I spent watching this movie is time I will never get back, and that sucks. Thank god I only rented this one... Because I'll tell ya, if I had bought it, I'd be contacting Steven Mena demanding a refund.
