one of Wes Craven's best made horror films since "Nightmare on Elm Street" and "The Hills Have Eyes".
i guess it's because it was an all-star cast, having featured Neve Campbell and David Arquette and other guys. in my opinion, Drew Barrymore was the best actress, and it was sad to see her die, because her parents are right in front of her, and they don't notice anything.
This was absolutely Wes' best film since Nightmare on Elm St. Great actors, great script, and great kills. A slasher classic to say the least.

The first scream was awesome. The whole movie I seriously couldn't figure out the killer and normally I always pay much attention to these things so the end was a great twist.
Scream is and always will be in my top 20 horror films. The film brilliantly takes slasher movie elements to a new place. Gone are silly slashers in masks stalking lame teen characters running aroung half naked. This wicked, gory, mean, and self-referential story goes beyond what many slashers have done, and like Halloween, it has made slashers fun once more. I think what makes Scream and its sequels so successful is the writing. In the Scream universe there are well though out characters with real life problems. There is pathos, which is something you do not find in most slasher movies. I guess on some levels it is a slasher soap opera. Oh what fun!

Ahhhh...For one brief Moment, during the 90's "My how time Flys" alittle Movie called "Scream" came along and immediately changed the way we saw Horror! Suddenly the "Slasher" Flick could be Entertaining, Smart, Witty, Well Written with Drawn Out Characters that the Audience could actually root and care for! From the "Whats Your Favorite Scary Movie" Phone call that Drew Barrymores Character gets at the beginning to the "Not In My Movie" Neve Cambells Sydney says when she assures herself and us that the Killer is Dead and Staying that way when she shoots Him one last Time in the Head! In the Middle of all this was a Murder Mystery, a UpDated "Who Did It" and "Why" for the New Horror Generation! Wow, hard to believe they made Movies like this or at least within the Horror Genre or since the passing of Alfred Hitchcock...Was this little Movie A fluke, In a World full of Fiday the 13th's pt 100 "Jason gets Medicare" to Halloween 15 "Michael Myers gets a Hip Replacement"! Yes this Movie was truly Amazing and seemed like finally Horror was gonna get the Recognition it rightfully deserved!! It had two Sequels to "Finish" out the Trilogy that upon My Understanding was always meant to be! Kevin Williamson of "Dawsons Creek" Fame Wrote this Original Story and brought it to Life, and Besides Drew and Neve, the cast Included Cortney Cox, David Arquette, Skeet Ulrich, Rose McGowen,Matthew Lillard and Jamie Kennedy who all played their Parts with such Conviction that you "almost" hated to see any of them "Get It" but what would a Slasher Flick be without the Kills? Yeah, this was suppose to be the "Future" of Horror, and here it is now, 13 Years later, and what is playing at our Cineplex, Halloween "Remake" Friday the 13TH "Remake" My Bloody Valentine "Remake in 3D" and the list goes on and on, yet where is the Original, thought provoking, Fun yet Nail Biting, Suspensful, Thriller/Horror/Slasher Films at? Oh Yeah, they are stuck in 1996, when this Gem of a Movie Premiered! So, "Whats Your Favorite Scary Movie"? For me, Scream is Definately One Of Them.
Wes Craven's somewhat overrated, nevertheless, strong comeback with Scream in collaboration with Kevin Williamson... screams confidence, resurrecting the 90's rather tiring and stagnated horror-genre by breaking new ground in projecting clever parody directed at the genre and itself, rewarding black humour and innovative scares, and the concept is as refreshing and appreciative as it is successful and rated-R.
This is probably 90's horror at it's best. A classic slasher flick, with plot twists and turns, some great acting and some gory action! Scream is a teen slasher, the rather simple type. Woman in house, phone call, woman dies. But it's better than that. The unique phone call, the unique running action, the unique gore fest action that this slasher movie is known for. Scream is a truly great movie, despite some crummy acting, it is by far the best of the three, with a lovely thought out plot, with mystery in every corner. It will keep you thinking for sure, and it will have you on the edge of your seat, watching all that wonderful gory action. I think this is one of Wes Cravens best projects. I asure you, when watching Scream, and the phone rings, you won't pick it up!
This movie is my favorite horror movie, I love the whole movie, sum of it was funny it had a nice storyline, it never went off it always stuck with the storyline, Their was some great actors and wow it an awesome movie
This has to be one of my favourite horror movies. Love the epic 10-min intro and the fact that its a cliche without be too over-the-top. Scream definitely defined a genre!
I love this movie, "scream" is one of my favorite horror films. The cast was great! The story was great! Everything about this movie is just amazing, this movie will always be a classic to me!
Fantastic! One of my favourite horror films of all time, I love the way it gets going right at the start and never calms down! ITS BRILLIANT! I love the Scream mask as well and what a twist at the end! I love the opening scene as well!
WELL I FORGOT WHAT HAPPENS IN THE FILM THIS WOULD BE THE ONLYM ONE I WATCHED BUT I WOULD SAY NOT WES CRAVENS BEST WORK HIS THE HILLS HAVE EYES ARE THE REAL FILMS OF GORE BUT SCREAM IS SORT OF A FILM MEANT FOR TEENS MAYBE THOUGH IT IS ADULT I MEAN IN A AY THIS FILM MAKES FUN OF SLASHER FILMS CAUSE THE FILMS AT LEAST THIS ONE IS IN NO WAY SCARY AND FROM WHAT BI HEAR THERE ALL THE SAME BUT I WILL WATCH THE 2,3 AND THE NEW 4TH ON COMING OUT
I saw this film during the second week of its release. My friend saw it opening weekend, & recommended it. I enjoyed the whole opening sequence with Drew Barrymore. That's actually (DB's death) my favorite part of the movie. I liked the "Randy" character, & all the references to the older horror films. Horror references such as this are a great way to spark the curiosity of fans who have never seen some of those older films mentioned in the movie. My cousin had never heard of "The Town that Dreaded Sundown", & it inspired him to go check it out. He loved it!!! He also tracked down "Trading Places" just to "see Jamie Lee's breasts". One of the better horror flicks of the 90's. Great job by Kevin & Wes!!! Rose McGowan was Hottt!!!
One of the first horror films I saw. My mother kept saying that I was and never will be allowed to see this film because of it's graphic nature. When I was finally old enough in the eyes of my mother I was finally allowed to rent this film. I popped it in the DVD player and watched. Once the film ended, I started it back at the very beginning and watched it again. One of the few films ever that I've watched once and again right after.
This movie is so good. Fast paced. Great mix of comedy and horror. It spoofs slasher films without being a goofy parody. One of the best openings in the genre.
Never before have I seen a movie so fresh, funny,(yes, funny) and downright scary! In this rare case funny and scary join forces and in an even rarer case, actually work together.
They do this in a unique tongue-in-cheek manner that is suspenseful, horrifying, and makes you chuckle, too. It's very effective, believe it or not. And to add to the fun, stars such as Neve Campbell, Jamie Kennedy, Drew Barrymore, and Courtney Cox are littered across the film's story.
The story is as follows:
When a young woman is murdered, people start pointing fingers. After the killings begin to grow more and more sadistic and gruesome, accusations fly and grow out of hand.
Then, everyone grows convinced that their is a killer on the loose that took his love of scary movies one step (or more) too far. He stalks his victims ass essential horror movie trivia questions, and guts, stabs, and slices them to bits.
Who will save the day, I wonder. Who? This film takes the ordinary slasher genre and turns it into an awesome guessing game.
Easily one of the best slasher movies of all time. Everything about it is sheer brilliance. From Drew Barrymore's thrilling opening scene, to the comical writing and characters, to Rose McGowan's infamous death scene. Acting is top notch, very well thought out story. Not much more can be said! Wes Craven is god!
Without a doubt, the greatest horror film to come out of the '90's. My own personal favorite of all time. I really don't think anything could have been altered in this movie to make it better, great cast, amazing story, very edge of your seat. This whole series really stands out as one of the greats. Part one in particular. 10
The Best slasher movies of all time. I wish there was a machine that could allow me to completely forget that movie just so i could see it again for the first time.
THE GREATEST SLASHER MOVIE EVER! Actually the greatest movie ever! My all time favorite movie! This movie changed my life and gave me the real love of horror! The cast was amazing! Although Drew Barrymore as Casey Becker was only in it 12 minutes it was the powerful acting from an actress in any horror film! And her strongest performance yet! She was amazing! As was the rest of the cast...Neve,david,courteney,rose,mathew,skeet,jaime....ALL OWNED THEIR ROLES! Plus Wes and Kevin together is just brilliant!I can't express how much I love this movie...there are no words! And no film yet has been able to blow a opening away like that! Biggest star in it killed first! Can't feel any more in warms way than that! From the get go you feel like no one is safe! Love it! Now I want to leave work and go home and watch it!
Greatest horror movie hands down ahha. In my opinion anyways. It was got me into horror at the tender age of 7, lol. And I was hooked. Opening 15 minutes are fricken amazing.
i loved this movie so much i have a ghostface costume and i bought the dvd. perfect movie. i could understand the feelings and the emotions of the charactors. i loved the ghostface costume, the way the killers stalked their victims (the phone call with voice changer). the movie had a perfect cast in my opinion, and i could relate to the charactors, because i am almost a teen, like the charactors were teens, and i just think this is a classic movie.
