This film is a cult classic to me and my friends. This movie's dark tone is so original and mystical that it holds my interest for the entire duration of the film. It's also the best vampire/werewolf action story ever conceived. Can't wait for more Underworld!
This movie is very under-rated. The acting is decent, the effects are good, and the story line is entertaining. I would recommend this to horror fans and action fans.
Score: 8.5

why BD gave this a bad review is beyond me but UNDERWORLD is a great action/horror film and all 3 have become some of my favorite movies and one of my favorite franchises.
After Twilight came out i just wanted 2 see more of horror based vampires and werewolves(not trying to insult twilight but they did kinda hurt a vampires reputation now, though twilight is one of my favorite movies and i am eagerly waiting for new moon and Underworld offered them.
Kate Beckinsale is a good actress in this and makes this movie much more believable than if they had just chose a women for straight guys to gawk over instead of care for and has good acting skills. Scott Speedman was just as good in his role as James.
The story in this movie is wonderful and really keeps you interested and I never once got bored.
The only problem I had with this movie was that the love story between James and Selene could have been a little more developed but hey that's what the sequel was for as well.
Underworld was a great action horror film and is sure to leave you entertained and is just a fil to have a fun time with
Why all the hate? I enjoyed this movie alot, maybe cause of my vamp\wolf love. But this was a good movie, awsome story, tons of action, maybe too much CGI and a weak love story. But other then that, amazing!
A perfect example of a film just oozing with potential, but ultimately is a huge let down. Why do the Lycan prepare for the final confrontation by rounding up all their guns if they just turn into werewolves instead of using the fire arms? And what happened to the "sun" bullet idea?
It was ok, I wanted more than I got out of it. The werewolves looked terrible and more like werecats than wolves. The vampires... yeah, the movie was just bad.
boring. not trying be condescending, but personally for me to enjoy a movie, i need at least one of a few things. a decent plot, decent characters/and/or actors, or really decent action scenes. underworld has none of these. if i was 10 or younger, the whole vampires vs. werewolves idea would be enough to entertain me. i didn't hate this movie initially, but after multiple viewings i kind of do. sometimes mediocrity pisses me off more then just plain terrible, if for no other reason then the film makers took inherently interesting concepts, and turned out a final product that was mediocre on nearly every level.
judging from the final product, it seems as if the writer/writers were looking for an excuse to have werewolves and vampires fight, which is an interesting idea in itself. but they decided to be completely unoriginal about how these two species to fight. they literally took romio & juliet, and made romio a werewolf/lycan, and juliet a vampire. speaking of which, what the hell is a lycan? is it werewolf in another language? and even if it is, they call vampires vampires, why don't they call werewolves what they are? i hated the godfather like vampire organization. why do they have a mansion? why do they have to be stereotypically dressed in nothing but black? is that just a vampire rule? or initiation? 'like welcome to club vampire, here's your black jacket, black shirt, black socks, and black shoes.' i hated the bullets the vampires use that emit blue light for some reason. nothing is rememberable in this movie, not even kate beckinsale. i have nothing against pale women in real life, and i understand that she's a vampire in the movie, but there was no reason to make her that conan o'brien kind of pasty. all in all, unless you love the shit out of werewolves and vampires, skip this movie. though even if you do love werewolves and vampires, i'd be surprised if fans weren't disappointed for making a movie this bland with their favorite creatures.
THis was a Great movie that started an amazing franchise. Nothing like this was out there before and it has become one of my top films ever.

Boring and forgettable. I tried re-watching this film before the sequel came out and couldn't even finish it. I can't believe a franchise swamped from this heartless Matrix-wannabe horror film.
i liked this movie, the only reason i bought it was because it was on the $10 rack at JB-HI-FI but i think i made a great choice, for some reason i didn't get to finish the second one but hey i will just rent at the video store
"Underworld" won't turn heads, but if your head is already pointed in its direction then your eyes probably won't mind what it seems. Which is mainly due to Kate Beckinsale being strapped in ultra-tight leather. No reason to worry here, you can enjoy the view because this isn't another craptastic lure like "Catwoman": action, sex, and violence will come with your meal.
"Underworld" is essentially a retelling of Romeo and Juliet from a post-modern gothic vampire/werewolf perspective. The good news is that if you were disappointed with "Blade: Trinity", "Underworld" should satisfy you.
Overall, if you look at it as just a fun action movie I think you’ll enjoy it. The over-the-top action reminds me of a video game, which is really fun to watch.
The blue camera effects and Kate were both amazing. The plotline was just as slick and stylish as the action. But the werewolves were retarded looking.
Action-horror fans will be in awe. As long as you don’t look too deep, I don’t see why people on this site seem to hate it so much.
This movie ( i think) was purely made for Kate to look sexy in, there's something good behind this sloppy boring plot but wasn't executed well enough. Maybe someone should remake it, it's slow. It might as well became a mini series.
BOOOOOORIIIING!
