First of all, Zombie made this movie with the intention of it being like TCM. It's supposed to have a 1970's feel. And all of this shit about character depth? Did you really feel for any of the chacracters in 70's horror films? No! The villians, or heroes, are just what we are watching. Not much more, devil's rejects however takes that and turns them into characters we love. This is one of the best halloween films ever.
At first, I thought "well, I like Zombie as a musician, however, I don't know about him as a director." But then I saw the movie, and for being the low budget film that it was, I found it pretty enjoyable. The characters all had fun personalities, he did very good at creating "anti-heroes." He did even better in the sequel. The movie plot may sound cliché at first (kids get lost and stumble upon a mad family of murderous freaks, etc. aka- The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Plot) -however, the experience is awesome, and you really get drawn into the movie. The visuals made it seem was like watching a nightmare. It's about as good as independent films get. The most original cliché I've ever seen. Good job, Zombie.

Crazy awesome movie right here. It was hilarious and sick and I absolutely loved Captain Spalding. I also loved the visual style that Rob Zombie had going. It was very gritty and dirty throughout and the colors he threw in made me feel like I was in a nightmare. This was one sweet movie.

Two words Fucking Awesome. I love it because it has the 1970's thing going on and not a lot of films do that now. Also loved that character Doctor Satan by the way....lol....all of you who think this is not creative need to go die cus your stupid and should just kill yourself now.
Where to start with this movie is the question? It is nothing more than a new rendering of the classic Texas Chainsaw Massacre plot where a group of folks run into some deranged family that lives in the middle of no where. They then have to try to survive on said families on stomping ground while each member gets brutally picked off, and there is brutality galore.
Where Zombie goes wrong is a lack of character depth, an idea that he covers up with tons of gore. The gore is decent but somewhat over the top and unrealistic at times as well. Dr. Satan? Really, is that the best that he could come up with for a villain. He should have just called him Dr. Evil.
As one can see, I have a hard time taking Zombie's film seriously at times, not being able to distinguish between their being spoofs or a serious attempt to scare. Scare, they do not. It is much like his form of music, an attempt to just shock someone to death in hopes of covering over the lack of development.
In summary, there is not much character development and far too much ripping off other ideas, especially TCM.
The most Fantasic movie of all time. People either Truley Love this film or severely Hate it... When I watch this film I dont sit down expecting to be grossed out, I expect to be entertained... as this movie isn't high on the gore, but halariously funny and just fun to watch... Its a sexy movie, a Comedy, and a little horror an Rob Zombie has masterfully peiced it together to make it my fave movie of all time!

very strange movie that feels like a throwback to the horror films of the 1970s, which hasnt been done to much lately, i felt the movie had alot of confusing changes and was a bit tied together without satisfactory results by those intended on making a horror film that didnt turn out to be this end result, but a fun cast and wonderful visuals this was a borderline good horror film.

I love this movie! It's better then Devil's Rejects in my opinion.
Absolutely ALL style and ZERO substance. Hell, even the supposed "style" really isn't that stylish, the art directors just mistake bright colours for actual art. This film, despite its self-referential claims, it's not in the slightest bit scary, or, astoundingly, interesting.
I rate a 9, because Rob Zombie did a very good job at this movie, but the thing that I didnt like, was the fishboy part. It looked to fake. Now I LUFF Rob, but he could have done a better job making the fishboy, then it wouldve been boosted to a 10, && thats why I chose a 9.
This is a complete waste of time. Nothing original and it seems that Rob Zombie thinks that the scariest thing in the world is hot girls under a black light. Black lights aren’t’ scary it just reminds me going to play laser tag or a Def Leopard concert. On that note, a one armed drummer is far more terrifying than Dr. Satan.
As much as i love Rob Zombie, This was just not good. I enjoyed The Devils Reject, it had the same people same char. but this movie was really the worst horror movie i have ever seen.
This movie is so fucked up and weird. But thats why I like it. Ya the movie produces more questions than answers but I still love the feel of it and the art form of the sets and atmosphere. I love Rob Zombie and I think every movie he makes is fucked up and amazing. Great movie all around.
I've seen this movie once-then handed the dvd straight to my brother-in-law,nothing about Rob Zombie interests me,this was the first & certainly the last of his films I'll watch. His music is rubbish too. Garbage, rubbish &more garbage! The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre could wipe the floor with this trash! Unfortunately I had to score this with 1 as couldn't go lower.
i really liked this movie b/c it was like taking a step into rob zombie's mind. :D it was like nothing i've ever seen, it was creative, it was funny, it was just a really great great movie.
I liked this movie a lot more than the Devil's Rejects. This was more like a horror movie where DR's was more of an action/suspense. But I still like Halloween the best!!! :)
Well being a fan of Rob Zombie's music I was excited to see what he had to offer as a director. I had high expectations for this movie but then it totally exceeded my expectations. It was incredible. The characters, the plot, eveything was enjoyable.

This is by far my favorite movie. Sheri Moon is my god, and I admire that woman to no extent. I love how they worked in the filters to make the movie truely eerie, even though without it just the sure fact of how twisted and developed each character was was enough to make this movie a keeper.
Beautiful directorial debut. Zombie has made a seamless transfer from a stellar musician to an exciting original director. Loved this film in all its gorey greatness
this movie was the most unbearable hideous piece of rat feces ive ever had the displeasur of laying eyes on!!!!
first of all the dialogue half the time is fucking retarded the acting sucks, and the story just twists and turns until u just sit there and wonder "WTF?"....i dont recommend this movie to anyone and if u have a copy of it plz do urselves a favor and BURN IT!!!!!!!!

Not that great. Some scenes are good and some are just hideous. The sequel Devils Rejects is way better.

One of the best films from 2003. I can't believe it took two years. Up there with Wrong Turn,Cabin Fever, and TCM remake.
As Rob Zombie’s first addition to the world of Horror/Shock Cinema, House of 1000 Corpses is, without a doubt, one of the most talked about horror films of the 21st century. Fans of the horror genre either love it or hate it--there really is no in between--which is why House of 1000 Corpses will forever be a unique addition to the rather disappointing era of modern horror cinema. As a devoted fan of the wonderfully gruesome world of blood, guts, and gore, I personally, have witnessed—in disgust—many people trash this film, mainly for how closely it reflects some of the most legendary films of the late 70s/early 80s underground film era. Clearly Rob Zombie has taken many of the concepts used in House of 1000 Corpses from movies such as Tobe Hooper’s ‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ and Jim Sharman’s ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show’, but should this fact really be considered a bad thing? How many writers and filmmakers don’t incorporate ideas taken from their own personal influences in their own work? That is a question that indeed, cannot be answered easily, mainly because all artists use this technique to improve their own creative abilities.
Masters of the Macabre such as Tobe Hooper himself consider Rob Zombie’s ‘House of 1000 Corpses’ to be a uniquely impressive homage to the 70’s horror era—That fact, in itself, proves my point. However, there is so much to be said about the film that putting emphasis on that one very fact wouldn’t justify how admirable a film ‘House of a 1000 Corpses’ truly is. Upon viewing the film, one must take into consideration the individual who wrote, directed, and generally devoted much of his own free time away from making music to the production of this film. It’s quite obvious that it would be extremely difficult for someone who is as familiar with the gruesomely imaginative as Rob Zombie to contribute such a huge disappointment of a film to the horror genre. Even those who really aren’t too familiar with Rob Zombie’s previous work in the music industry are at least somewhat aware of what the man is all about. In fact, his appearance is a dead give away. Those of us who are loyal fans of Rob Zombie know that he’s all about everything that our parents tried sheltering us from when we were too young and naïve to understand that the horror genre is intended to do three things and three things only: Shock, horrify, and simply entertain the audience.
Not since John Carpenter’s highly respected horror film, ‘The Thing’, have I been so impressed by the special-FX enhanced villainous creatures that are featured in Rob Zombie’s ‘House of 1000 Corpses’. In fact, the antagonists in ‘House of 1000 Corpses’ are really what make the film as incredibly disturbing as it is. I was particularly impressed by the notorious, ‘Dr. Satan’. A barely recognizable portrait of something that was once human but has clearly become something much worse—Dr. Satan provides a whole new explanation of the term “Inhuman Monster”. To briefly summarize the essence of his character, Dr. Satan, a corrupt and questionably mortal M.D., unsuccessfully attempted to create his own breed of “super humans” by performing unorthodox medical procedures on his patients from a former mental institution. Once the authorities and local town’s people new about his ruthless behavior, they took him out into the forest and hung him, but to their dismay, his body went missing from the site where his body was buried. Although Dr. Satan was unsuccessful at achieving his own twisted goal of establishing his own breed of evil super-human beings, Rob Zombie was incredibly successful at painting a vivid portrait of how terrifying it would really be to be trapped in some sort of underground lair with such creatures as Dr. Satan and his army of brain-dead “Super-Humans”.
Rob Zombie has clearly devoted the majority of his life to the macabre. He has perfected his own natural ability to stimulate the deepest, darkest corners of the human mind by successfully concocting a sort of “gruel” out of ordinary, as well as not so ordinary concepts that offend, disturb, and downright terrify the average individual. Even those of us who have “wiped the slate clean” and completely desensitized ourselves to the vilest subject matter are able to recognize and understand why Rob Zombie incorporates the ideas that he does into his work. As a devoted fan of the genre and someone who views horror films religiously, I personally trust Rob Zombie above all else to knock the wind out of me with his brilliantly twisted, gruesomely imaginative creations. I look forward to seeing what he has in store for horror fans in the upcoming future, and I have faith that other horror fans that have bashed his work in the past will take a closer look at what Rob Zombie has to offer the ever-changing world of modern horror cinema.
