This review is for Jason X: the Screener, which is pretty much the same as the theatrical release.
There has been much talk surrounding this movie and I read a few reviews completely ripping on this movie. The problem is people's expectations and what they want to see. To set things straight, this is the 10th installment of the Friday the 13th franchise. What can you expect from the tenth sequel?
I watched this movie with the thought that its going to mediocre and just be another cheesy ass Jason movie... and it was. The movie was everything I wanted, hoped for and expected.
The acting was horrible and 80's like, with some great little one-liners for laughs. The script was very basic and did a tremendous job of avoiding the fact that Jason went to Hell. But besides that, what do you want? Jason walking around killing people, that's it, that's all I want to see!
Most of the kills were very creative and something special to behold, unlike others where Jason would just smash a guys face into a wall and walk away. The movie had some good gore and built some great suspense.
One downer besides some of the lame kills and the horrible acting was the Star Trek feel. I cant believe I actually had to use that movie to compare it to Jason X. The sci-fi feel was very apparent and took away from the overall horror theme. It became a made-for-TV-cheese-a-athon.
Anyone who's a Friday the 13th fan will love this movie, regardless of its cons, but beware if your one of those people who take things very seriously and really puts things into perspective, because this movie really is crap, but fun crap!!
Score: 6 / 10
