Plot:
''- Scientists and American Air Force officials fend off a blood-thirsty alien organism while at a remote arctic outpost.''
Till today we have two movies and one video game based on short story ''Who Goes There?'' american SF writer John W. Campbell Jr. and influential figure in American science fiction (he had influence on such autor slike Issac Asimov and Robert Heinlein).
For me personaly John Carpenter version isn't remake of this movie beacuse we have two different visions and point of view of two different style directors based on one story (like Dracula or Frankenstein movies we have them many but they are not remakes).
Best thing about this movie is that he had no movies before who will do influence on him. He was first movie that started SF madness and golden age of Sci-Fi genre and certainly he have one of five best SF stories ever told on big screen.
When he was released the term UFO and ET are little known but interests about space and aliens grew from year to year. This attribute will do him only favor.
Second best thing is that we have very good story and one of the best about aliens - a humanoid monster whose cellular structure is closer to vegetation although it must feed on blood to survive. And for that time we have very good monster played by James Arness and more importantly we have effective acting (one of best in fifties and sixties). Script is without blemish writen by Charles Lederer. This movie is one of my favorites and one of best SF movies ever made and don't compare him with Carpenter's masterpiece beacuse is different movie from different time (this is time of anti-communist feelings and McCarthyism). ''The Thing from Another World'' is pure classic and must see movie for audience who not seen him yet.
THE BEST SCENE:
- Captain Hendry and his men, following a suggestion from Nikki about how to deal with vegetables, set it alight with kerosene and it flees into the night (great scene for that time and very dangerous)
- The Thing is attacked by sled dogs, and the scientists recover an arm, bitten off by the dogs
BEST QUOTE:
Dr. Arthur Carrington: ''- No pleasure, no pain... no emotion, no heart. Our superior in every way.''
[referring to McPherson's gun]
Ned "Scotty" Scott: ''- You sure you know how to use that thing?
Lt. Ken McPherson: ''- I saw Gary Cooper in "Sergeant York."
