I watched this before I went and saw the remake and im glad I did. Very good documentary over a great horror icon.

If you think you're ok with the special features included with the Friday the 13th box set, you're wrong. This includes a lot of sweet info and many more interviews, and best of all it includes the Angry Video Game Nerd! Great for true Friday fans.

A great documentary for Jason fans, though if you're a fanatic like me then you probably won't learn anything. Regardless its cool to see all those connected with the films reflecting on them after all these years.

Essentially a love letter to the fans of the big man in the mask, every Friday fan should at the very least have seen this.

I was so glad to see the old cast come back to relive their Jason days. I loved how at the end the actors did their famous quote from their respective films!

I do think they sped through each film a bit though. Still a great buy for Jason fans!

This is almost all recycled material from the old DVD box set. I don't think I saw anything fresh on it, besides the last 15 minutes discussing the remake. Seen it all before...

The best documentation I've ever come across on the FRIDAY THE 13TH series belongs to Peter Bracke's book 'Crystal Lake Memories'. This doc is very fun if you're a fan of the series, but still feels lacking in terms of how in-depth it gets. It's sorely missing people like Kevin Bacon and director Steve Miner's insight. Tom Savini's wraparound segments as host are really bad and waste time that could be given to more interviews and footage. I guess my biggest gripe is the lack of structure in terms off storytelling. Bracke's book went movie by movie and dove deep into each of them. Here we get people spending way too long talking about mundane shit like "why does Jason do what he does?" Who cares? Give me Crispin Glover's explanation for his dance moves in 'The Final Chapter'. Overall, still fun and cool to see what a lot of the FRIDAY alumni look like now.

Documentary about the Friday the 13th series with tons of people reciting scripted dialogue about how scary Jason is. Hardcore fans will cheer while folks like me that think the series is half assed should save the $$$$ and hit it as a rental. What really pissed me off is that no one will mention Bava’s “Bay of Blood” as being inspiration when it so clearly is. You got a killer stalking teens hanging out at a lake or bay. And kills like, victim in wheelchair – in Bay, Machete in the face –in Bay, Double impalement –in Bay. One asshole even called the double impalement death original.

Very well done. It was a trip back in time.It brought back a lot of great memories. The Friday flicks were a staple during those weekends during my highschool years. I picked up the new & uncut edition of the original film this morning. The doc is hosted by fx legend, Tom Savini. It was nice to see Vera & Fox again as well. My only hope now is that the Jaws doc "The Shark is Still Working", will get released sometime this century. Anyway, I highly recommend "His Name was Jason". A great doc for a terrific horror franchise!!!!

This documentary is for die hard Friday the 13th fans, not casual viewers. If watching the-making-of featurettes is your thing, this is for you. If not, don't bother.
