Awesome serial killer movie I though it was better than Hannibal.

oh to see where it all started...and to think you could have lived without it!

I couldn't get into this movie at all. I've always enjoyed Anthony Hopkins as Dr. Lector, but Edward Norton is what took me away from the movie. He was not very convincing as Will Graham. I've seen some of his other movies and they were fantastic, but this just fell flat. Maybe i shouldn't have read the book before watching this. That very well could have been the reason i thought his performance was not as good as it could have been.

I really love Red Dragon. Sure it's a prequel, to the awesome Silence of the Lambs. It's good to see Anthony Hopkins back as Lecter.

he biggest downside to this movie is Edward Norton. I don’t rate him very high as an actor. However, Hopkins has a perfect performance and removes focus from Norton’s character which the movie tries to portray as being strong and in control with an underlying psychology of fear. The chemistry between Hopkins and Jodie Foster was better orchestrated and more intense than that found in Red Dragon.

When you throw in actors such as Hopkins and Harvey Keitel, one cannot feel less than compelled to watch this movie. The script was very good, but I felt Will Graham should have made the connection between the murders much sooner. It was a disappointment that too many clues were given at such an early stage in the movie. As such, one has to rely solely on the characters journey and not the destination.

Lecter is such a polished character, the likes of whom are rarely seen in fiction. I wonder whether any other actor could have portrayed him any better. From the moment the film started, the audience is touched by the man. Lecter’s intellectuality and creative genius coupled with the barbaric may not be a new combination for a psychopath or even a sociopath, but he can effect with words what most poets cannot.

The film runs full circle to where Lecter meets Clarice the moment before The Silence of the Lambs. It is this one crucial scene, this one small moment, which makes the ending satisfying. Despite Lecter’s brutal inclination, I cannot imagine any viewer wanting him dead. He is too spectacular a character to die. He must live.

OK. Red Dragon isn’t as good as Silence, or Hannibal, but it wasn’t bad. I was hoping for more of Dr Lecter but was dissapointed. Hannibal wasn’t as engaging this film and the film overall just wasn’t brillian’t as i expected it to be.
The plot wasn’t bad, but i was hoping for more of Hannibal, I loved how they made it as the killer had a heart, because he did. The first 30 minutes were bland and boring, and weren’t what i’d expect from the franchise. I was hoping for engaging riddles and clues, but nothing. I loved the ending because Clarice Starling was about visit Hannibal. It was great.
The acting was great and believable. Of course Anthony Hopkins just makes you scared with a look, and the expressionless talking is so evil. The other performences were great but nothing like the great chemistry between Anthony and Jodie Foster.
Overall the film isn’t as good as you’d expect, but it was watchable. My rating is 3/5

Anytime Anthony Hopkins plays Hannibal Lector you cant go wrong. although I still like "Hannibal" The best from all Hannibal Lector related films. this one was still pretty cool to watch, it's very similar to Red Dragon, I am still hoping to see where and what Hannibal Lector does after "Hannibal" because Red Dragon is a prequel to that and Silence of the Lambs.
Overall worth watching, not my favorite entry but a solid horror film.

this comes close to silence, but dosent quite get there. hopkins is great again, and ralph fiennes is creepy. makes manhunter look like a home movie.

I enjoyed this movie, especially the opening scene, getting to see how Hannibal Lector got caught in the first place. However this movie is the EXACT same movie as Silence of the Lambs. It is a prequel, but it might as well have just been a remake because the plot is the exact same. Still a good movie though.
