I picked this movie up only because it was only like $2.00, knew nothing about it and it was an amazing find. This movie was really good. The story worked and the killer was a very disterbed man who did what he did very well. This movie is one you all need to see.

A vastly underated and misunderstood little masterpiece. Scott Reynolds is a genius who needs to get off his ass and make more movies. Everything about The Ugly works, from the off kilter stylisation to the odd, low key performances. It oozes menace and existential dread throughout. If you haven't seen it you need to track it down now.

"I enjoy killing.. isn't that enough?"

An indie horror film from New Zealand, one that really sends chills down your spine.. The characters are well written, and you do feel for the lead, even though he is a serial killer.. Forget the Ring and all the other japanese knock-offs, bring on more horror films like this.

I agree with Blackdeath that this is an overseen gem of a movie. It's more of a psychological thriller than a typical horror to me, as you are torn between feeling really sorry for the serial killer character (especially in childhood flashbacks) and wanting to make his pain go away, to thinking, you Ba****d-with all you have been through how could you do that? In fact, as many of his victims are disabled in some way or another, does he see himself as an angle of death or is he just a pervert?

Watch it and see for yourself....

Don't pay any attention to anything anyone else says about this film, as I can best say it reminds me of any Eddie Gein story mixed with the filthy entrails of Henry:Portrait of a Serial Killer with a supernatural twist.
The Ugly starts off with the story of Simon, his overbearing, abusive mother, and the deep seeded neuroses her "upbringing" left him.
While watching this, you may be reminded in a format sense, of Silence of the Lambs, but it is definitely worth watching to the end.
See it and remember it, for this is one of horror film's great unappreciated gems.

This movie is awesome. It is really good and what a great idea. This movie has some ideas that most don't take to the place that this one does. This movie pulls you in very well. It has been years since this movie, and mean like 8 years and me and my friends still talk about how great it was. This thing is a great killer/psycho movie.

Iv'e seen this but can't remember a thing about it. So I guess it bored me hehe....Most probably because i'm sick of these cliche movies. I don't think there was anything substantial or grounding to this movie.
