I don't know why, but this movie tugged at my heart strings. It was decently made and action packed. I don't care what others say, but you're missing out if you skip this film.
Don't let the cool exploitation-style poster fool you. This film pretends to be intelligent character-driven horror, but in the end it's just another silly, zombie-esque flick up with an unsympathetic lead, and half-witted reasoning. I ended up fast forwarding through the second half kills just to see where it was all going, which was disappointing to say the least.

So if you want to know how to make zombie teenagers this is the movie for you. Just put some PCP in kids when there young, dope them up more and more and more and bam you got instant zombie kids.
Yeah right. FUck that shit, The acting was pure shit. The dialouge was lousy, there were some neat gore scenes but that couldn't save a lousy movie with a lousy ending.
I'm quite happy that I had extremely low expectations for this film, because it turned out to be pretty entertaining. There are a lot of things wrong here, but for some reason they are easy to work through.
The story is fantastic, and the execution falls short. A change in actors was necessary as I don't feel that they filled in their character roles properly. I have grown quite tired of the teenage outcasts hanging out in some vacant parking lot idea.
The biggest issue that I have is, again, the bad pairing of actor-to-character. The second issue I have is the poor build. I didn't hate Ronald Perkins before Hopper killed him.
I enjoyed the movie though, and I think that most of the negative reviews are based on the expectations of the viewers being so high before going into it. It is quite a shame because it really isn't a bad movie.
i didnt know the movie was about psycho people i thaugh it was about a killer it was alright the acting was horrobile it needed more blood but it did have violence. an alright movie
Perkins’ 14 (Afterdark III)
This installment of Afterdark is one of my favorites. I even bought it before watching it, which I never do. This is because Michale Graves (my favorite artist of all time) plays in the film. That said; the movie itself was really very good.
Our main character, Sheriff Dwayne Hopper, (played by Patrick O'Kane) develops very well as the movie progresses. I ended up feeling really bad for the guy because of all of the tragic crap that he went through in his past and is still going through during this film. O’Kane did a great job portraying his character.
My favorite performance was by the Sheriff’s wife, Janine Hopper. Mihaela Mihut plays the part, and she did an excellent job. At one point she was terrified and crying and nearly brought me to tears – she was that damned good.
It was brilliant to cast Richard Brake for the part of Mr. Perkins. Brake (“Batman Begins” and “Hannibal Rising”) is one creepy looking dude with a cruel and evil-toothed grin. Perkins’ character was all calm and sinister and just downright mercilessly malicious. He really gave me the willies.
The other characters were kind of typical, except Michale Graves’ character, Eric Ross. I am totally bias, but I really enjoyed his performance. The guy can act, and his vocals were great for screaming too. Michale also has the coolest / goriest death in the film. We also got a sampler of some of his new music because his is playing acoustic and singing, “Blackbird” (found on albums Web of Dharma and Illusions Live! 2008: Viretta Park) as he enters the film.
Okay, the storyline. For the first 45 minutes, there is mostly character and story development, but then the fun starts. This was a good idea for a horror movie, pretty original. It was like a zombie flick, only not. Mr. Perkins caused a great deal of pain and torture to a whole lot of children – man, how they must have suffered. The result of his lunacy leads to a decent amount of gore. The kills were many, and they were swift and creative. The blood was beautiful, and the effects were outstanding and realistic.
I give “Perkins’ 14” 5 out of 5 hairy eyeballs (4 eyeballs for the movie and 1 just for Michale Graves).
Leading up to this year's horrorfest this film's story had me from the get go...the film did disappoint a bit. Overall it was not bad, I think the idea of losing a child and believing them dead and then to find out that they have been alive and brainwashed/tortured for 15 years! Is a terrifying idea, the execution was just not quite there and like a few others here have said, its the last half of the film that sucks.
The special effects and story are interesting up to a point. Its too bad the last half of the film really falls flat in every way. It had some promise early on, only issue with the beginning is them repeating what was said 30seconds ago. Happens a few times which is pretty annoying, definitely not needed. The ending has some horrible lighting. Less strobe lamps.
This movie was all over the place it lost me after a while. I don't know how it made it to Horrorfest. Whoever picked this movie to be in Horrorfest probably just through this one in at the last minute to have 8 films to die for.
I really dug what they were trying to do with this film. The first 40 minutes really had me by the balls. However, the last act and ending let me down big time.
The idea of this movie...took my breath away. I waited to see....and what I saw was a shame. The movie should not have been revolved around the devastated father. It should have focused more on Ronald Perkins and the 14 children he kidnapped. There was so much left unsaid. Hopefully there is a sequel...they should name it "Kyle."
This movie was freaking great! Seriously. It starts out as one kind of horror flick (no spoilers from me), and then, after what would have been a perfectly satisfying conclusion to the story thus far, it segues into a different kind of horror flick. I seriously have a hard time imagining how any horror fan would not be entertained. Really? Some of you didn't like it? This is just another one of those head-scratching moments that makes me wonder, WTF?!?!?
The plot of this movie was like nothing Iv'e seen before.....very original. And the acting is good enough. Having said that: Whats makes a good horror movie is something that is believable. Especially how the people in the movie react to certain situations. There must be 10 different "re-actions" in the movie that make no sense. That alone killed it for me.

This Movie starts out as somewhat of a Thriller then takes you on a slow build up to when all the abducted kids get released. It was definetly from out of left field. The gore was good the atmosphere they set out to acomplish was good. However the overall dialoge was lacking. Great premise good try on trying to make somthing original. The end was definitly shocking.
Unlike most I did enoy thid film. It was above all things entertaining... I didn't like any of the caracters but I liked the movie none the less. It wasn't a masterpeice but it was good.
6 PCP Zombies out of 10 PCP Zombies :D
I had the highest of expectations for this horrorfest entry as it was the first one specifically designed for horrorfest fans. It seemed to have a cool concept but the end result is ridiculous and terrible. Every year there is one horrorfest film thats absolutely horrid and hopefully this is the worst of them and I've only seen 3 so I'm scared. Everything about this film is awful acting, direction, a ridiculous story line. And if anyone wants to fight me let's have a go. Sue the father and son plot device is an intriguing one but the idea that 14 kids kidnapped from their home 10 yrs. ago are accidentally let loose and are acrobatic, flesh hungry, crazed zombie like creatures with no explanations except for abuse is just ridiculous. And omg the dreadful pacing and acting. it doesn't even deliver on killing scenes or any type of excitement. please let this be the worst film has to offer ever otherwise count me out.
this movie had it's ups and downs. some ideas were real cool but the acting made me feel like i was watching a soap opera. Why would the writers make the cops in a movie so unbelievably stupid?
I dont understnad why everyone is trashing this movie. Of the movies at the horrorfest this (and Dying Breed) were the on only good ones there. The acting was actually BELIEVABLE AND NOT OVER THE TOP like other horror films. I thought the gore was pretty sweet and I liked the storyline a lot of course if you forget your suspended disbelief. The ending is really cool and unpredictable even though it leaves a huge cliffhanger. THe only other problem is that its shot in the dark most of the way. Otherwise I really loved this one and its one of my favorite horror films, and trust me I've seen a lot of horror films over my time.
Sadly this movie could have been good but ended up sucking ass. The gore was alright when they did show it but the acting was horrible. Usually the acting doesnt bother me but this time it did. The actor that played the sherrif was horrible. Now they said this movie was made by us..I can tell you I wouldnt have fucked up this movie and I would have made a such better one then this piece of crap.
I agree that this was a story that had great potential, but was poorly executed. The main character is a small town cop played by an actor I had never seen or heard of before and for good reason. He was terrible. He had no emotional range at all. He just seemed depressed throughout the whole movie and his dialog seemed unrealistic. The movie is obviously a work of fiction but you could tell that little research was done when making the film. There needed to be better attention to detail when filming this movie (you can email me if you want examples). It feels like they just rushed through it. It was almost unsettling to watch. After reading a short summary of the movie and then watching it I am filled with regret over what could have been. I don’t know if it needed a different director, or some different actors, or maybe a bigger budget, but this really could have been a blockbuster. So sad.
I enjoyed the movie. Of course, I didn't go into it expecting it to be an Oscar winner. I think folks neglect to take into consideration the previous horrorfest films. I mean, these flicks are what they are. And, in regards to this one, I thought the gore was enough for me to give it a thumbs-up, as well as jibe with the too-much-for-regular release thing.
Basically, if you like gore, you'll like this one. But be sure to go into it with the knowledge that it's not a twisting, mind-blowing, piece of work--it's all about the shock, man.
Absolutely retarded. What a waste. Acting was stupid and little to no gore. It was as if someone just threw this together over night. And what the f was w/michale graves, what a bitch. I was happy to see him die.
you have to go in with low expectations with the horrorfest films, and thats what i do with all of them, you cant expect them to find 8 top notch horror movies all at once and ive watched from within, slaughter, autopsy, and perkins 14. this is the only one i didn't like becuase of the exact same reasons! no jumps at all, it had a unique ass story line, but was ruiend by the execution of the way they did it! and second it felt like every character was out of place except for the really creepy guy in the cell.. everyone else in this movie should not have been casted.
heres my reviews so far.
and dont forget go into them with low low expectations if you want to enjoy them.
From within - a solid 4/5 one of the better movies ive seen lately period
Autopsy - 3.5/5 close to an ok 4 lots of jumps and gore.. no story to care for.
Slaughter - 4/5 some gore, a good jump scean and an actuale story line that makes you care about the characters. i didnt like this movie untill 45mins in and completely changed my mind about it!
Perkins 14 - 2.5 no jumps, AWSOME story line executed wrong. low production values that even look real low. horrible casting. first half of the film is good, but turn it off about 45mins and youll end up liking it!
This movie was terrible. I don't usually write reviews, but I will for this one to warn people not to waste their time, or their hopes. I was drunk and I still got nothing from it. The script was the worst I've heard in a long time. The cast of Feast 2 delivered their lines better. As for the gore, when I wasn't fighting off a siezure or looking for my glasses, I was wondering where all the clips for the preview came from. It had great potential, with an idea that hasn't been done to death. The deputy looked the part but as soon as he opened his mouth the eye rolling became compulsive. I know horror movies are supposed to encourage the unexplainable and leave a few questions unanswered. But this does not mean you can do whatever you want with a script and expect it to make sense. You have to follow some kind of reality. If I had voted for this (which I did NOT) I would be ashamed at what was created.
Worth a watch I guess... If it didn't crash and burn at the end from the overwhelming stupidity of its characters this might have been pretty darn good.
Just another example of a very good idea going to waste with a very mediocre movie.
Im beginning to get frustrated with horrorfest, at least this years batch. the 3 I wanted to see the most was this one, dying breed and autopsy. so far ive only seen DB and this one. I would have rathered them be bad than good movies, that kill themselves by ruining them with the most ambiguous idiosyncrasies. Both this move and Dying Breed were really cool, but then something little, or some little things, took them from being great horror movies, to just o.k. The main character was such a moron, he never had his gun drawn, and he acted like an idiot the whole time. THe killers were cool, perkins was cool, the story was original. but the little stupid things like the cop not even asking about who killed his cop friend, or not ever calling for backup, and not having his gun drawn when being surrounded by grusome death and danger?!! The end I actually thought made this movie go from mediocre to pretty good. I have 6 more films to see, which I have heard are all not as good as the 3 i listed. So i really hope that i enjoy a few, especially Autopsy, I better love it because im gettin pissed. Next year, it better be the best yet.
This was such a lame attempt at horror.
The idea is different and interesting
but it was so badly acted and cheesy
that it quashed any sense of it being original.
I enjoyed what gore it had but that's all it really had going for it. Why do they look like zombies-but that's a question not even worth asking or answering. Pass on this one.
I enjoyed this very much! Its not a movie that everyone is going to like, but for an hour and a half I was on the edge of my seat. There was a unique story to it, nothing complex, The gore was very intence and I think anyone who likes Gore, the infected will have a good time viewing this.
Starts out with clever stuff for the first thirty minutes only to lose its identity as a clever horror film during the films weak third act with a unsatisfying ending, I have already seen all the 8 films to die for this year and this is the best one of them all, reguardless of the praise of "From within" that it has begun to get dont listen to anybody it sucks.
so out of the 8 films from year 1, the 9 from last year and the 8 this year, that makes 25 total films and I have seen them all and only like and own 6 of them:
The Gravedancers (the only good 1 from year 1)
and from year 2:
Frontiers, Deaths of ian stone, Borderland, Mulberry st and Nightmare man.
and I will not waste any money on this years batch of 8 because not one of them is that good.
