Had never heard of this movie and it just premiered on Encore..thought it was gonna be sucky but i was pleasantly surprised...kills that made me curse at the TV. loved it!
I was surprised how much I enjoyed this. While nothing new or innovative, it is, however, a fun, vicious, dark ride. An homage to 80's slasher films, while being updated for today, this was the most fun I've had with a slasher film in awhile. While there were some plot holes and stiff dialogue, the movie delivers a mean, nasty, very gory, fun ride. With characters that you actually give a shit about (Something very lacking in most horror movies these days), I'd recommend this to horror fan.
This movie is really tough to review. I'm on the edge of really liking it or really hating it. Great kills, pretty cool slasher, i like the quallity of the of the film, but the story was a little all over the place. So I think the best thing would be watch it more than once and judge for yourself.

Although it wasn't one of the best slasher movies ever, it did have some solid kill scenes and a decent storyline that wasn't too frustrating. It's worth a rental but not much more than that.

1:00 -- oh no, this looks like it's going to be really bad.
6:00 -- fighting the urge to turn off the TV.
For some reason I kept going and watched this entire mess of a movie. You'll quickly start to weigh whether the dialog or the dollar store chrome skull mask killer is the lamest part of the movie.
The characters don't act in a remotely realistic manner. The story is awful. Really can't put into words what a waste of time this movie was.
The 4.5 skull BD rating makes the whole rating system feel unreliable to me now.
THIS WAS A SHITTY ASS MOVIE!!!
THE KILLS WERE GOOD BUT THE STORY
WAS BORING....I SERIUOSLY HAD TEARS IN MY
EYES BECAUSE THIS MOVIE
WAS SOOOO FUCKIN STUPID!!
I CANT BELEIVE THE GOOD REVIEWS PEOPLE
GAVE THIS LAME ASS MOVIE!!
THE KILLER LOOKED LIKE A LIL BITCH....MY CAT
COULD PROLLY KICK HIS ASS!!
IF YOU REALLY LOVE HORROR MOVIES, DONT WASTE YOUR
TIME ON THIS SHIT!!
I liked this movie, I had no idea what to expect going in and I was impressed with parts of it. Chrome skull is a great new killer with some bad ass accessories :) He has a freakin car, I love it! Some times the acting was lacking but I like the cameos and the deaths. I also enjoyed watching the "making of", which made me appreciate the movie even more. I am down for more Chrome skull!
Well this was an slight disappointment to me. I mean I thought it was ok with great gory kills and a cool looking killer but it barely had a story behind it and the acting was flat from most with their characters not developed enough to care about them, to me I think Lena Headey should of had a bigger and better part than what she was given because the lead actress Bobbi Sue Luther just didn't have the acting chops and I wasn't quite the fan of the filming or the music in it either. Overall if you want an fast paced, gory and wacky slasher/thriller here you go but it really isn't anything more but that and it really wasn't that special to me and it had all the potential to be much better and bad a$$ than it ended up being. Skip it!
I liked this one a lot. Although it's by no means a perfect slasher it had enough of what I like about them to make it entertaining.
The gore, the gore, oh the gore! Brutal killings indeed!! And Chrome Skull is one of the best villains I've seen in a long time. He's extremely cold and calculating but I loved the fact that at times he seemed almost exasperated that he had to kill all of the other people...the girl is his target, his project, and every time she brought someone else into the mix he was forced to become a common mass murderer. It was if he was lowering himself by killing everyone else. Nick Principe did an amazing job giving emotion to this fiend.
So the plot was thin....who cares? All I need in a slasher is a good villain, gore, and enough of a plot to get from point A to B. If you're want more than that go watch something else. Laid to Rest is what it is, just a gory slasher.
Don't listen to the man below, this is an amazing throwback style slasher flick. The killer "ChromeSkull" is one of the most memorable in recent memory, and as for the kills...well see for yourself. The storyline is pretty good and I really enjoyed the ending. In 20 years or so I'll say we will be looking back on this as a classic.
This movie was the worst movie i have ever seen the UNBORN was scarrier then this and i love all the classics i am a big FREDDY and JASON fan please people never watch laid to rest
this was one of the best slasher movies i've seen in a very long time. The kills were very good, not cliche and not just too absurd. i particularly loved the killers style. i do agree that there isn't too much of a story but the rest is so good it makes up for. a must see for slasher fans.
this movie was surprisingly not bad.
it was extremely bloody and somewhat scary.
wasnt the greatest of horror films but it was pretty decent for an indie film.
definitely a throwback to 80's slasher flicks which it did succeed pretty well.
im quite a big slasher fan but to be honest i didnt have that many high hopes for this i kind of bought it thinking if its no good then its no good. but i was blown away by i thought it was fantastic. my only thing was i'd like the killer to have been a little more developed just some kind of back story would of been nice and it felt like Lena Headey and Thomas Dekker were really under-used and they only had them for a day or two for name recognition so more people would buy the dvd which in my opinion is a cheap tactic the film didnt need cus the film could stand on its own 2 legs with out this casting. thought the lead girl was amazing so yeah go buy now
I kind of liked the movie. The gore was pretty well done but I found that the story didn't really go anywhere it didn't explain really anything about chromeskull he was just there killing hookers/people.
Before Netflixing this, I heard mixed things about the film, so my expectations were moderate, and to my surprise, it met my expectations. But, honestly, that's all it did. If you like B-shlock films that don't require acting or a story, just the campiness and the outrageous gore, you'll be surprised how much you'd like Laid to rest. If you like smart, well-crafted horror flicks, steer clear of this one. I can understand why people loathe the film and love, I'm clearly in the middle.
What Laid to rest does right, it also does wrong. First of all, the kills are plentiful and contain multitudes of blood and gore, which is a treat for gore hounds. The special effects are certainly impressive which is surprising since B-flicks are on very low budget and their CGI looks cheesy and outdated. The film also offers some brief chilling and creepy moments, which were a bonus. Aside from that, nothing really works with the film.
If there was a contender for the most plot holes in a film and the most obvious, Laid to rest would be a contender. The choices the characters made showed their stupidity concealed in their looks. Some things, obviously were nonsense and didn't make any sense at all. The script was piss poor and it seemed like the writers recycled the same "killer stalking" concept, a short-term memory loss gal, and try to hide the unoriginality by giving the killer a new identity.
Laid to rest is what you expect it is. Just a fun slasher flick. If you're looking for more in that guided direction, you're clearly not the intended audience. All it tries to accomplish is a throwback to the 80's with it's copious amounts of blood and the old, recycled killer concept. If you expect just a bloodshed, you're in for a treat. If your expectations go beyond that, you will be disappointed.
To tell you the truth the movie was pretty good. It had an okay story line. I don't like how every movie has to have like the whole prostitution thing but It's a good movie. It show the entire kill and it has lots of blood. The ending was the BEST though. It had the most action. It's worth a view.
pretty good the story was kanda bad tho Kavin Gage looks just like Bill goldberg from WCW lol. the gore was pretty cool and at the end it was dumb cuz the big shooker you found out that she is a hooker was it ment to be a shooker?
An above average slasher, cool new villain (with a terrible name though) and great job with the gore, but the acting wasn't anywhere near top notch and the story has more than a few holes in it unless they're planning on making a sequal taking place before this film. Not a bad movie, and the gorehounds should love some of the creative deaths and the high body count.
this film of course has it's flaws, but that's expected. it's low-budget, the acting isn't the greatest, and the writing sometimes is a tad mediocre, but with all that said, being low budget and all, this film looks great, the effects are quite good, I loved how the film looked visually, and it ended up being a solid and aware low budget splatter fest that gives everything you'd expect and want to see in a slasher movie. in the end, i enjoy and reccomend it!
This film, while being void of any and all logic, could have been a fun horror film. Instead we get a film that takes itself way too serious, and has some of the worst acting to ever be in a movie.
The gore was fine and I will give it a one for that. Some scenes are just too stupid to comprehend. The killer forces the girl to buy him a blank video tape, they contact the police by emailing 911, amnesia so bad the character can't remember 911 (I guess that's why they had to email the police) or what a funeral home is called. Everyone who runs away from the killer, pretty much just runs around in circles.
I really think no thought went into making this film. The pacing is terrible with too many dead spots. It was billed as a return to the 80s slashers, and instead became a victim of the hype. Watch Hatchet instead.
Remember if you see a guy with big knives and a skull glued to his face, ask him if he is with the police. A generous 1 star, and only for the death scenes. Avoid.
Not sure what Tex was smokin' when he watched this complete cheese drivel, but it BLEW! The lead actress Bobbi Sue Ineverheardofu was the weakest lead I have ever seen. She was awful for the first hour and OK for the last 20mins. I felt the other actors ran circles around her and actually did well. Chrome Skull was slightly cool, but that wore off and became tedious as we moved into the second act with no fleshing out of his character. The gore effects are the standout of this production and I applaud the original kills. The directing was almosat as bad as the Bobbi Sue. I thought Rob Hall was some Wunderkin? Seems like he fell into the straight to video drivel that cannot hold a candle to a 40 min TV show(CSI anyone?). The shots were, for the most part, poorly planned out, with many being held on the actor speaking far to long. Other editing faux pas included cutting ahead before we could see what actually happened to a character in the scene, the lack of a score to increase tension, mega cheap sets, chintzy props, and the fact that no one has a phone(cel or otherwise) through out the movie, except for the killer. Come ON! Not even remotely believable! Rob Hal, I saw a FULL SAIL School Of Film advertised on the last site I was on. Maybe we could get you to enroll?
this was without a doubt, one of the stupidest, most boring, idiotic, pointless, worst acted slashers i have ever seen in my life...oh my god, i do not understand how this possibly could've gotten ANY positive reviews...the only conclusion i could draw was that those who've been giving it positive reviews must not have seen the same film i did, or were severely intoxicated or under the influence of something, and whatever it was i want it!
it is so boring, the acting was atrocious, and not the "so bad it's good or funny" type acting, but just plain horrible. the script, if you can call it that, makes no sense, the killer is stupid, some scenes had me laughing to the point where i cried. not even the kills could've saved this piece of shit excuse for a film. just youtube them, and save yourself the 90 minutes of having to sit through this crap/
Just watching the trailer bored me. I kept looking to see how much time was left, and rolling my eyes. The killer looks dumb, and is not scary at all. This just seems like some excuse to try and make a horror movie. No thanks.
THE EFFECTS WERE GREAT. THE REST WAS A COMPLETE WASTE OF MY TIME. IM GONNA MAKE A HORROR MOVIE STARRING ROB HALL JUST SO HIS DEATH SCENE CAN BE HAVING THIS DVD SHOVED DOWN HIS FUCKING THROAT. STUPID. OH AND NOW I HAVE TO GIVE IT A SKULL? ITS REALLY NOT WORTH IT.
Boy, I dont know what to say except boring. This film lacts an exciting plot and is quite a snoozefest. The plot is weak, the serial killer is by no means terrifying, at times you even forget about him. There is a lack of effort on the killers part as well.
The gore was not bad in this film, but it alone was not enough to sell me on this one. I havent been this bored in a while with a film. Very slow pace, pretty bad acting (not the bad 80's style bad acting welove, just bad acting) and a plot that tries to be different and original but lacks speed and interest. I give this a 3 just for gore.
Good ol' fashioned horror. The plot is thin and the character development poor, Yet I found myself highly entertained by the style of killings and interesting slasher. Standard stock and slash plot elevated by unique killer. I want to know more about chromeskull. plz make sequel or prequel.
a fun ride very tongue in cheek and great special effects. I enjoyed this film for what it was. Its not A rate cinema but its a great indie. The principal actress was a tad week but really everything else worked. The killer chrome skull was interesting and I thought overall i would like to see what the director could do with a real budget. If your looking I would love to produce!
I don't believe I've seen the same movie as the one reviewed on BD. I just can't! The storyline is just lame - the caracters just movie in circles, following the girl they never met around, and the mistery of the identity of "Princess" (which, by the way, is the most ridiculous nickname ever)is, I don't, just stupid (once revelead, it doesn't change a thing about the plot - she can be anything, anyone - that's why the fact that the bald guy is worried about it, and hindding that paper about her, doesn't make sense at all). And just answer me this: why nobody runs away from Princess? Why does a boy who are going to party just waits there, in face of a killer, for this girl he never met - and for a long time? Other thing: the scene that the killer sends the girl to buy a new tape, what is that? A psycho just would go there, kill everyone and take the freacking tape... I think (he just gave her some change in order to by it! How about that?) Well, that's just the start... the plot is full of holes, and you have accept a lot just to go through with it... (the blood-bath is the only thing that really matters, and for thaty I'll gave it some points!)
Exceptional gore and horrendously stupid writing. Seriously, the writing is atrocious! Do not blame the actors, I think they did the best anyone could possibly do adhering to crap dialogue. However, I don't think the horrible dialogue is necessarily a bad thing, because if you either expect or realize early on that the entire movie will be like that, there are some REALLY good laughs to be had at the film's expense.
While I can appreciate dialogue that's so bad it's funny, and got a couple major laughs out of this, I'm a little puzzled that the writing sucks so bad. Here's the thing, it wouldn't have taken much at all (Cause almost anything would be better) to improve it and mak6e this a film worth watching for more serious horror viewers. As quality as this film looks and as great as the kills are, why wouldn't you iron out the dialogue?
As is, it's only for gore hounds and people who find Ed Wood films hysterical. Luckily, that's me.
The gore pretty much saved this movie from that terrible, terrible acting.. I just have a difficult time immersing in a movie with such horrendous dialogue.. But the gore made me smile.. And i did like the killer.. Actually, since he did not speak, his was the best acting in the entire film! His subtle physical acting was pretty good, i thought.. Especially enjoyed when, for a split second, you see him waving at his victim as she runs away from him.. that was pretty kewl..
This movie is horrible. I don't understand how any adult could like this movie. The acting, plot and gore are horrible. I fell asleep 40 minutes into the movie. I just don't get the positive reviews. This movie should have been a Sci Fi original. Can't believe I wasted money renting this.
I liked this movie. It delivered exactly what I wanted it to...good kills and cheap scares. I'm sick of people looking for some kind of life changing experience from movies. ITS A SLASHER FILM PEOPLE NO MORE,NO LESS.
people say this movie is crap apart from the kill scenes - seriously, are you that bloody stupid?
this is a slasher flick, not infernal affairs or a godfather remake.
The film sets out to mindlessly entertain with various chase/kill scenes which it does quite well, with a few nice ideas thrown in. If you sat down to watch this film with any other expectation then wtf are you even looking at this website?
Saw this at the Fangoria double feature in Beverly Hills with the director and some of the actors and actresses. Not scary at all and the acting is bad for the most part. Decent gore, but no amount of gore could save this movie. The story wasn't very good either. Also, it wasn't filmed in a way that built any kind of tension. It's just a bad movie. It's hard to even give it a piece of a skull. Rob Hall's first movie was a lot better. He took a few steps backwards with this one.
the lead actress is awful, the only reason she was even in it is because she produced it.
if it weren't for the horrible acting on her part, this movie would actually have been above average, but since it DID have her, it's re-watch value is diminished
A great modern slasher film. It should only be judged in terms of slasher films and if you go beyond that you're totally missing the point.
If you like 80's slashers then I don't see how you could hate this film. I've never watched a slasher film expecting great acting or dialogue. Never.
Its important to review films with their intention in mind. You can't review every film on the same level, it just doesn't make sense. Its like saying punk rock is terrible compared to an orchestra just because the music isn't as intricate.
Decent...nothing new on the field of horror. Cool killer and deaths but the acting, oh the acting. Id rather watch the uninvited remake than this though...
I Think that everyone who has given this movie bad reviews came into this expecting WAYY!! to much. It is a slasher movie, when it come to slasher movies its all about the kills, which makes this movie sooooo good! Bad acting and a bad plot are the things you have to deal with with pretty much all slasher movies. So to anyone who as not seen this movie yet..... go into it with an open mind, dont expect great or even good acing, dont expect a story line that will blow ur mind, go into this movie expecting to see some of the best kills in a movie in a long time. I Thought the movie was great! Sit back with a couple of friends, drink a couple of beers and enjoy!
Y'all are mistaken. The leading lady isn't bad, and the production values are fine. It's the direction that lacks. Where's the suspense? When the cast all look lost, that's the director's fault. Tone is everything. Obviously, the effects are great. I suggest the director silence the laughing hyenas on-set so the cast can focus. And then he can pay better attention too. And btw, if you thought Hatchet was a decent film, you are beyond help.
Really overhyped. Don't stay away from it, just don't expect to agree with the official review. I thought the 2nd half was great fun. It just really really drags.
It was pretty good for a slasher, compared to some others movies of this type (See No Evil for example). Kills was cool and so are gore, but ending really sucked, although i don't really expect other.
Just finished watching it. Would have liked it better if Chrome Skull would have done something else other than kill. And all the fance stuff with his car I didnt really buy. Other than that it was pretty good. Hatchet was better though, and I still have to see Martyrs.
Talk about a total dissapointment from what you expected and hoped for, this one took the cake from start to finish, as most of you said acting was absolutely terrible (and that is putting it nicely), and a horrible storyline. Other then some of the killings and the blood this movie overall is just plain bad.
Laid To Rest should officially be put to rest.
I have to agree with most people on this - this film is utter crap, the acting is the worst i have seen in a film for a long time. The death scene's ain't that great either, yeah its pretty sick in parts but nothing we ain't seen before.
Its difficult to trust BD's reviews when you are giving films like this 4.5/5, its just stupid.
But i won't moan too much as without you guys i would never of heard of half of the great horror movies i have seen.
This was fucking beyond terrible. Someone owes me $15. I can't believe that every review that I've read for this is near perfect score. Yeah the kills are above average, but that doesn't make up for the terrible story, god awful acting and a lame killer. I typically enjoy slashers, but this was the worst I might have ever seen.
the movie was pretty terrible in every single aspect, except the kill scenes.
The acting was laughable. the lead actress sort of had an excuse with the brain damage/amnesia concept, but still she wasn't convincing in the slightest. The guy who played Tucker was pretty horrendous as well, often laugh inducing in the way he delivered dialog.
The direction/cinematography was completely bland and didn't help the actors at all. Direction/Cinematography as generic/bad as this can cause the greatest actors to come across as completely terrible. Shot after shot of straight ahead, close up shots of characters spouting dialog back and forth gets pretty monotonous...it doesn't help that the dialog is complete crap. unintentional comedic gold on some scenes.
the music was absolute trash. Crappy electronic "industrial" sounding, generic buttrock; the music during the opening credits was cringe worthy.
The film looked cheap. The sets were bare bones and cheap looking. The "Funeral home" looked like a double wide trailer or something. Cheesy editing effects plagued the whole thing as well...looked like a freshmen film student went nuts with the canned effects in Final Cut Pro.
Plus all the actors were annoying as hell. I couldn't stomach sitting through the deleted scenes/blooper reel...because I hated all the actors so much. In the extra features on the DVD the filmmakers seemed annoying/arrogant. Name dropping crap and talking about their own movie like it's the greatest slasher ever.
The ChromeSkull character wasn't fleshed out very well at all...we get all these interesting hints about him, but are left with no back story or satisfying conclusion. plus the whole concept is pretty dumb, how he records every kill and sends it to the police....why? whats the point? are ALL police/FBI goddamn idiots or something? with that much evidence surely they could find the guy. I mean his license plate is CHROMESKULL...shouldn't that be a pretty big clue..Plus the whole design of the character was pretty cheesy...
Basically any time there wasn't blood spilling this movie was really hard to watch. Rob Hall needs to stick to effects and leave the directing/writing to some one competent.
Couldn't bare sitting through more than 20 mins worth of the worst acting and awful direction. I'll agree with all the others though. Gory as hell, but obvious that all the attention was focused on the effects. Give this one a wide berth
This movie has the fuckin coolest death scenes I've seen in a long time. Of course the plot was lousy but it wasn't suppose to be a serious flick. ANd when did you ever see a godo slasher film. Slasher films are meant for one reason, have a cool ass killer (which it did) deliver the goods (which it did) have hot women who are fucking stupid, then somehow kill the killer (which it did) cool music (which it did) I am pretty much sure this movie covered all the basic. Thanks rob for a cool movie, hope you can pull off another.
I thoroughly loved this movie from begining to end.The kill sequences where spine tingling and creative!I cant wait for a sequel or prequel perhaps. The cast and director were very sweet and kind.Sorry to suck up but you guys rock!
this movie was such a disappointment. i though and heard great things that were horribly wrong. Everyone said the death scenes were awesome, but were actually pretty lame. The acting was shitty as well. I want my money back.
This movie was nothing as I suspected. Bad plot, bad acting, bad kills. Not worth the time. Maybe one day we will have another great slasher movie, but not here.
Hate to sound like everyone else, GREAT death scenes, main girl can't act at all, killer is diffent and cool. To show how uninteresting the movie is,I'm actually wriTng this review as the movie is still playing. I was so excited to see this movie until i did. 'OVER RATED' (clap...clap...clap, clap, clap)
What can I say? The kills and gore were gruesome and memorable, the villain had a reasonably cool look/feel to him, and the supporting cast was pretty decent but there were a lot of cons:
The lead and the villain both lacked in characterization completely (the "big reveal" about the main character's identity left me saying "So what? That's it??"), the lead actress was terrible compared to the supporting cast (she seems better suited as a porn 'actress'), and there was an overall lack of suspense and tension which really left the film feelling empty.
It was certainly worth a watch (there are some truly awesome kill scenes) but most of the film's potential was wasted. I can't believe Lena Headey and Thomas Dekker (easily the two most talented actors in the film) got such shitty roles. And for the love of God if I ever here that "sexy bitches are my favorite kind of bitches" song again, I'm going to kill someone myself. ;)
Fast paced and with some creative kills. Bad acting distracts the viewer from completely immersing his/herself within the film. The biggest and most unforgivable flaw however is the lack of any characterization or personality of chrome skull, rendering the whole experience luke-warm.
good kills but WHEW.. fucking horrible acting by the lead chick.. everyone else was ok.. still a fun movie. thought the ending was kinda of crappy though. cool villain
In a horror movie, the villain is the most important element. Laid to Rest's Chrome Skull was hideous(in a bad way). Chrome Skull?! LAME villain name and there was minimal character building. Yes, the deaths were gorey, but it wasn't eye-opening. It's the kind of gore that you'd expext from a guy with a knife.
The camera on the shoulder was stupid and it just reminded me of a Predator's laser.
The part were the good guys went into the store made me feel i was watching Splinter all over again. And Chromes Skull's death was a result of idiocy and ignorance. LAME LAME LAME LAME. Please. No more Slashers. We already have enough. Jason, Freddy, Michael, the list goes on...
**Quicky Review**
Hello fellow readers!.
"The Girl" wakes up in a coffin having no memorie of what happened or of her. She meets "Chrome Skull" who happens to "Kill&film" at the same time. Everytime she finds help, Chrome kills it like a bat out of f*cking hell!!
The girl and a group of people she meets struggles to survive the night.
Really I had no idea what I was getting my self into. My first guess when it started that it was going to be a man chasing a girl with fancy weapons. What it turned out to be was A sick minded creepy ass bastard who was chasing this girl who has the most perfect Breasts(Fake?) with the most Awesomes weapons i Ever seen!
The kills where so Fantastic I felt like i had an goregasm the whole movie!! Half way through the movie it kind of dragged on about the girl trying to remember something then you start to notice the acting is a bit terrible and silly.
Then it gets back to the F*cking action!
As it turns out. Robert hall(Director/Writer) was smart enough to make a film that doesnt just focus on the gore but also focus on the character!
The ending kind of leaves us hanging and we kind of have to figure it out a bit, rewind the movie a bit. As of all the horror movies i saw, This is at #1 Most Gorey and realistic! For now.
Acting- 7/10- Bobbie sue Was a bit lazy but Kevin Gage Put on a pefect performance!
Gore- 10/10- GOREGASM!!!!!!
Story- 8/10- Kind of bugged me from leaving out alot of Info.
To.get.her It comes totally for me-
9/10!!
Robert hall god bless you for the making this movie. So what next?! >:D
It's a slasher film people. It's not Oscar material. Get over all the "bad acting" and just enjoy it for what it is; a genuinely original horror flick. For once we get something new instead of some tired old re-run or piece of shit remake, reboot, re-imagining, rewhateverthefuck. If you can sit back, shut up and enjoy the gore fly; then you'll like this movie. Hell, you may even love it.
Wow. I have got to say, after horror fans alike talk about all the supposedly crap horror that is out now, and yet everyone loves total garbage like this. Robert Hall is great, Lightning Bug was a very good flick, but how anyone can like this is beyond me. The gore was fantastic, but not nearly enough to save one of the all time worst scripts I have ever heard. The dialogue seems to have been written by a child. Utterly terrible film, do not wast your time, watch Let the Right One In again instead.
BD's review is way too generous! Writer/director Rob Hall is a special effects guru, so if you only care about FX and gore, you will enjoy LAID TO REST - otherwise steer clear. With all of Hall's famous friends participating in this debacle, you'd think that one of them would pull him aside and let him know that movies need to have stories. Here - random killer goes around killing random people - just cuz... DON'T WASTE YOUR 90 MINUTES!

I had been waiting SO LONG to see this. Reading about here on BD, Fangoria, etc got me pumped to max levels, lol! But i found that when i FINALLY picked it up, i didn't put it in for hours after gettin' home. I feared i might've hyped myself up for nothing but disappointment. Couldnt've been more WRONG!! Chrome Skull is the definitive slasher for the new milinium!! Some of the coolest kill scenes i've ever seen. The poor bastard that gets the knife thru the cheeks, damn!! Even the acting was a couple steps above what i was expecting. And the cameo's were pretty cool too. The way in which the would be dispatcher was dispatched at the end, suprised and blew me away, a DEFINATE MUST BUY!! If you haven't seen this, go get it now. NOW!!
I really enjoyed this film , Being a fan of slashers and gore this film truely delievered both . Got some good tension going the lead actress really did seem messed up by what was happening . I had lots of fun watching this movie.
The acting was terrible. It was such a B movie that coulda been way better. The concept is there and so is the gore but the production and cast ruined the movie.
finally saw this gem and I was anything but disappointed. face ripping scene at the end was great! But gore aside, it has some gripping suspense, great killer, decent acting - someone mentioned bobbi sue was bad, but i couldn't disagree more - she fit the bill perfectly. hats of to rob hall for one of the more entertaining flicks of the last year!
just watched it and was let down. it was fairly gory and the killer was pretty cool and I did like Gage, but the acting was fairly bad, the whole film felt disjointed. I don't understand why a movie with HARDLY any plot was so bogged down by junk! and the computer/phone stuff was just stupid. but whatever, it was okay, some good gore effects but lacking everywhere else!
stop over hyping these movies! none of them live up to their hype, EVER!
The death scenes were pretty good in this flick... but the acting... especially from the main chick was just awful. I know its a horror flick and the acting isnt always the best, but the main chick was atrocious. Like the goon said she was just awful. The movie wasnt all that to begin but this dumb chick really took away from the movie.
Somebody shoot Bobbi Sue Luther, she is probably the dumbest bitch I have ever wacthed acted on the horror screen, There's most likely worse but she was fucking terrible, the plot to the movie was pretty orginal but it was a stupid fucking movie and tez man I had little respect for you but damn loving twilight is one thing now giving this a 9/10. Some of the kills were ok, theres a scene where Chromeskull(yeah you heard me) is cutting this blonde girls throat and its a close up scene and it looks terrible, fuck this movie and its hype and it praise.
WOW! This is a love or hate movie for sure! I happen to love it though! It was insanely tense and the death scenes were the best and most inventive since Final Destination 2! Everytime someone got it my mouth dropped especially by a actress I didn't see getting it atleast until the end! and one of the main characters death's at the end! OH and Johnathan Schaech's death! Crazy good time! It's not intelligent or mind blowing but its a simple slasher flick that goes above and beyond with its gore and kills and suspense! If you enjoy slashers your sure to love it!
The idea was good, but poorly executed. In this small town horror movie apparently no one pays or owns a land line and only 50-60 people live in a town in the middle of nowhere. The fact that at one point of the movie one of the victims has to e-mail the police department for help. It is a bad horror movie, but not the worst. My advice is don't see or buy it, download it and watch it for yourself.
I was really looking forward to seeing this movie. After watching it I could think only two things. Mediocre acting at best and KILLER SFX. If you want to see some gorey and unique kills I would watch this movie. If you are looking for a good plot, stay away.
not since hatchet has a slasher film been so good. this is old school slasher horror. the killer is ruthless, the babes are hot, and the kills are gory. chromeskull was a very original heavy, and i would love to see him return. it's a crying shame that movies like this are released direct to dvd because this would have been fun to see in a theater. alot of fun and highly reccomended for splatter fans.
Just got done watching this film and I got to say it is quite possiably one of the best (orginial) slasher movies I have seen in a while. The only downfall was the script was a little weak but it was still full of great kills so it makes up for it.
I was lolling the whole time while watching this movie. but I gotta admit the killing scenes were pretty gore, which also means f'ing awesome. It tried a bit too hard to make a 'touching moment' but was that even necessary? ITS A GORE MOVIE.
And what was it with the chrome scull?
SRSLY. A CHROME SCULL.
Like it wasn't cheesy enough to start with.
There is no way the guy who reviewed this for BD saw the same film I did. Retarded characters. Stupid script. Horror cliches pushed into the stratosphere. Not one character could do anything smart. Driving somewhere safe is an option throughout the movie. The script tries to rationalize why they don't but it fails. The only person to own a phone is the killer. The movie tries to make use believe that phones are a rare item.
The gore was good. The warehouse full of victims was effective. But it was hard to enjoy because the script kept ruining it. I don't blame the actors in this case because I think they could have pulled it off with a decent script. There's was zero tension because we want the characters to die. We don't want them polluting the gene pool.
I hope the FX guy is involved with the next Friday the 13th, Elm Street, etc.
"LTR" is a way overrated flic (like "Hatchet") by the way, which only offers some juicy thrills for the gorehounds and nothing if itīs comes to the story, the acting or the overall direction. Sure, the premise isnīt bad, the killer with his chrome mask looks and you can see that the director knows his stuff as an FX-guy. But the characters are bland , the story is boring as hell and the characters are too stupid (seemingly running around in cirles the whole time) even for a slasher movie. Even the final showdown between killer and heroine is just...disapointing. Even you want to watch an intelligent, funny and witty slasher you better go withe "Behind the mask" but if youīre just into bloody gore FX, this may be for you (if itīs not putting you to sleep between the kills).
Recently, this movie has been compared to movies like Hatchet in the gore effects and people have been hyping this movie up as ultra gory and violent, and it f***ing is. This movie has one of the best half/full decapitation scenes ive ever seen, this movie was just flat out fun. But there is this weird story in the back that you really don't need to care about, another downside to this movie is some long and slow parts to the movie that is mostly all dialogue, which kind of sucks having to sit through. But overall this movie was great and the gore is so awesome and realistic and the performances in the movie aren't that bad either. Check this one out, u can get it at Wal-Mart for $10 already lol. 7/10
I had high hopes for this movie. With all the good reviews here on good old B-D, but I was let down to say the least. I loved the SFX, some of the acting was good for a B movie, but for the most part it sucked. Chrome Skull could have been soooo much more. The concept was cool as hell, but the story just wasn't there. He wasn't as brutal as I thought he would be, and most of his kills were just him cutting peoples throats. The way he died was really weak.If it wasn't for the SFX, and a couple of just OK actors carrying this movie it might have been worth the ten bucks I paid for it. I usually rent before I buy but with all the positive reviews from B-D staffers I went against it and bought it. I did the same thing last week with Splinter and was really happy, but with laid to rest, it was a rental at best. I give it 2 skulls and thats pushing it.
I give this movie an 8 for being successful in many ways. The successes are the gore, the killer, a decent story, some good actors. The negative was the lead actress. I hope in all my time watching film she never scores a lead again. She is real bad. I understand she is the directors wife and that is why she got the part, and it is a real shame. With a decent lead actress this movie could have been just great. This also goes for Rob Zombie casting Sheri-Moon, also. The only thing she does well is show her butt. And the only part the actress in Laid to Rest did well was act like a whore in the one scene. And boy, she "nailed" that part. If you listen to the interview on the movie, it is her and Rob Hall talking and all she does is talk about herself. Someone just needs to let her know that she should go to doing porn or something because that is about all she is good for. the other actors did good and the killer was great. I also kinda hated that no one had a phone. That was a little silly. But, for slashers and horror in general, this movie is a sweet surprise considering the budget that it was filmed on. I would say this is better than 99% of crap coming from Hollywood to the big theater.
I loved the gore and the killer idea is pretty interesting.. What really kind of bummed me out was the fact that our killer drove a car with rims and a personalized license plate..? So many horribly delivered cheesy lines that seemed to take themselves way too seriously.
I personally loved this film. I was not expecting much at all from this film but was i ever wrong. The gore and violence is un-like anything i have seen in a film before. Sure I've seen blood guts and gore, but this film just had a way about it that was all its own.
The killer is something new also. I can't recall ever seeing such an odd villian. I will def. be buying this film for my own collection!
This movie was amazing! There were some pretty crazy kills! The only downside to the movie was the acting, it wasn't that great. Other than that this movie is really good!
I usually read BD reviews before I search out a GOOD horror movie. WOW! Were they WAY off with this one. I have to agree with half the other reviewers. This movie was HORRIBLE! I was fast forwarding through scenes. Not even the effects could have saved it. The acting was BEYOND atrocious (especially the lead actress) and the plot was nonexistent. Chrome skull had potential, but everything else about this movie got in the way.
DO NOT RENT THIS MOVIE! RUN AWAY FROM THIS MOVIE!
The acting sucked, but ya don't watch slashers for Meryl Streep. But, the Kills were pretty interesting. That said, every scene that didn't involve gore (and a few that did) looked like they were shot in someone's back yard. Horrible, horrible production values. And, the fact that every character was a moron ("No, lets not run away, instead we'll just kinda hang out and wait for the killer to find us!") Overall, just forgettable, which is about the worst thing you can say about a horror movie. Oh, and for the record, Hatchet was fun, this movie was just tedious.
I will honestly say, I thought all the hype was crap. But I also have to say that the lead actress was horrible. That's basically the only con I see that this movie's got going. I mean it's disgusting, and hand's down badass. But don't take it from me... I mean I'm just a dumb hormone driven teenager. :)
unfortunately i was let down as well. good gore does not equate to a good move. the kills were outstanding however, especially the death of lena heady and the part where her brother gets his face ripped off with the blade. the performances were pretty bad with a few exceptions, and the characters wonder around and stay in the same frreaking place instead of high taling it into town. whatever. if your a fan of gore check this out for a couple of awesome kills. other than that, skip it.
A pretty good horror movie at times, but I wanted and expected much more than it delivered in the end. The violence, blood and (stand-out) great special-effects really improve a film which otherwise has a basic plot, hit-and-miss acting, a lack of tension or atmosphere and miss-use of some of the more well-known cast (Lena Headey, Thomas Dekker, Johnathon Schaech). There are also no answers given in the end in regards to thing such as the background, identity and motivation of the killer.
I don't know what movie you all watched but Laid To Rest is probably the best slasher since the 90's ie:scream. The cast is loaded with talented actors, the killer (Chromeskull) is bad ass, and its a throwback to so many great things that horror movies have lost in recent years. The body count is good, the FX are legit, and every kill is fucking brutal. The production value obviously isn't that of a studio horror flick or of any of the bull shit remakes that we've been subjected to, but it is evident that the director (Robert Hall) knows his shit. I'd like anybody who didn't like this movie to name 3 slashers that were better than this that have come out in the last 2 to 3 years.
I loved this film. This movie had a interesting plot and it was a creative new concept for a masked slasher this movie was better then i antisipated. I was worried i was going to hate it. The Opening twenty minutes left me a little pussified. But after that the ball started rolling and it was a blast. Wonderfull cameos from Thomas Dekker and Lena Headey of the Sarah Connor Chronicles. Chrome Skull was a verry interesting mass murdering slasher.
I bought this for ten bucks at Wal-mart.It was money well spent.Great gore effects,Great pacing on the plot,And a new masked killer that doesn't suck.Rob Hall is another bright spot for horror.I know that it's not a new idea but this should of got a wide theatrical release. This is pure slasher fun and intensity and not a crappy Japanese remake or a based on kind of sorta true event ghost story. So stop the hate and appreciate
I love Robert Hall. I loved Lightning Bug. Was stoked for this.... BUT... i cant help it. It was a big letdown. The kills were great. Kevin Gage was the greatness that he always is... but everything else was just a miss for me. Not horrible not boring but overall a letdown for me.
Definitely a movie that fails to live up to the hype, but then again most movies rarely do live up to their hype. As others have pointed out, the gore is what "makes" this film. Truly some of the best gore effects ever seen in a horror film. Unfortunately that's the only good thing about this film.
There's really no suspense at all, boredom kept creeping up between the excellent kills, the dialogue was especially terrible, typical horror movie stupidity (which I can usually tolerate) seemed to be turned up all the way to 11, and I particularly didn't find the look/idea of Chromeskull all that impressive.
Overall I'd say this movie is worth a rent *cough* download *cough* just to see the very nice gore.
Good kills, no thrills, stupid plot, that's all its got. I made this review short, because their isn't much to review other than the always fantastic effects of Rob Hall. Stick to your craft Robby, leave the directing and writing to someone who actually CAN. Brainless, mindless, straight forward killing isn't enough anymore. Maybe I need to watch this high on meth like some of the reviewers here. DON'T BUY. If anything, it is a rental at best, and a torrent download for anyone who wants to save money on the 80 minutes of unwatchable schlock that fills this 90 minute over-hyped piece of mediocre slasher cinema. My rating is generous, only because the effects are gruesome and effective. PS - Would horror directors named ROB anything please stop casting their wives in their movies. Yes, your wife is pretty. But pretty can't always act.
The lead actress in this was horribly miscast, aside from her good looks. But terrible actress aside, this movie was okay. As usual, not as good as the hype building up to its release, but still better than 90% of the crap being put into theaters. The killer was different, if not entirely scary. The gore was awesome, it was nice seeing some familiar faces throughout, but I have to say I hated the ending. On an whole, not a bad way to kill an evening. All this talk of a franchise might be a little bit premature, but I'd watch a sequel. Shit, I guess I'm saying it was a slightly above-average slasher flick, lol.
Wow... seriously?! Why such high ratings? This movie was one of the biggest pieces of shit I have ever sadistically forced myself to watch in my entire life. The acting was shit, the actors were awful, the lead actress had one expression on her face the entire film - an expression that said "I'm being f****d in the butt." The gore was alright, but it didn't save this poor piece of horror that should be trashed and never see the light of day again. The plot was ridiculous, full of holes, the ending made no sense, and stupid characters you wanted to stab kept introducing themselves and putting themselves in the worst cliche predicaments I've ever seen in a film. Seriously. This is garbage. A piece of shit. Can the BD reviewer who did the write up. He obviously has poor taste.
I watched a screener copy ages ago and the BD review kind of leaves me perplexed... Sure this movie had quite a few excellent and creative kills. Everything else about it, however... fuckin blew chunks. The acting, the badguy, the pacing, the ending... all retarded. As someone else said here; go watch Hatchet and you'll have a much better time.
Perhaps, and im hoping this is the case... the final cut (not screener) is better. But I doubt this greatly.
The gore was LAFANTASTIC!!!! However there were a couple of sequences you could tell the blood was to thin and runny. The deaths in the film were great extremely graphic, so horror lovers will get into that. Now as for the movie itself, this was a terrible film falling apart at every turn nothing is explained about our killer who is only kown in credits as chromeskull (yawn). The story feels like they just made it up as they went along I looked at the running time, at thirty eight min. in I thought we were approaching the finale. I also cant believe with some of the stars that were in it namely the guy who was the serial killer nazi from heat wereso bad. I also have a hard time getting into a film that looks like it was shot with a camcorder. To sum up worth seeing the gore, not worth seeing the acting, nd worth seeing the kid from Hannah Montana have something real badhappen to him with a shotgun. I give it a two out of ten and thats being nice.
This movie was terrible. Acting = Horrendous, Storyline = Horrible, Chrome Skull Mask = Cornball, Matching Knives = Ridiculous. Oh and did Forest Gump write the Dialogue?...and just so much more of the film was so outlandish. Giving this a 2 is generous. The only reason I gave this a 2 was because the kill/gore scenes were decent. What a poor excuse for a film.
Whilst Hall deserves a lot of credit for getting the job done with clearly limited funds, it doesn't change the fact that the end product is a let down. A decent cast and some good FX count for little if the script isn't there to back them up. Unfortunately Hall seems to have regressed as a writer since lightning bug. Clunking dialogue and ridiculous plotting rule the day. It's far from without merit, but has too many frustrations to be considered a success.
first off, hatchet was waaay better than this.BD reviewed this better?!The kills were decent, my favorite being the guy getting his front face ripped off on the car, lena headlys death by knife to side of head, other than those, hatchet's death scene's fucking left this movie in the dust. The acting in this was just fucking terrible, bobbi sue luther can not act,she was to the point were i wanted to shut this shit off,she could have at least shown some tits.chrome skulls death!! fucking lame, purs some shit in his mask then puts it on then dies!!haha what the fuck?!he should have been shot, but the fucking kevin gage can't aim a fucking gun,on 3 differant times!! overall i DID like this movie but damn i expected more. maybe i need to watch it again.Martyrs comes out next week and better fucking rock, like inside did..ok back to my second viewing of laid to rest.
Based on the reviews here, I expected something high quality, but maaaan was I wrong.
This movie had nothing going for it. I've heard so much about the originality of the kills, and to be perfectly honest...they just weren't that original. Nothing clever about any of them except maybe one.
The characters were absolute morons and the dialogue was awful. There was no suspense whatsoever. The final "confrontation" with the killer tried to be clever but was really anti-climactic.
I had such high hopes for this movie, but was severely let down. The only redeeming part was Kevin Gage...at least he's nice to look at! Lord!
CHROME SKULL????? how fucking cheasy can you get? honestly?
new horror icon??? bahahahaha please this generation can have this joke.... i'll stay with cropsy
this was a decent slasher but, i expected a lot more out of this movie. It started out wonderful...than we ran into the rest of the main characters and everything began happening so quickly. Chromeskull was an excellent killer and was extremely creepy. The main lead was an extremely good actress and you also cared for everyone else in the cast. The blood and gore was excellent and the ending was shocking and amazing. The only problem i had was just every onch in awhile i found myself being bored and dazing odd from the movie when nothing was happening. The ending was brilliant and shocking and extremely well done and you can't decide whether you still like the main lead at the end or if you don't. Laid to rest is a great slasher but not as good as hatchet or behind the mask
This movie was alright. Maybe it was the good reviews I was hearing beforehand that left me a little disappointed after the movie was over. The kills were extremely cool, but the story could have definitely used some work.
This movie was decent at best. The kills were done pretty well but, other than that, the movie was average. Maybe I was expecting too much after I saw the trailer.
Now this is what I'm talking about, An 80's style slasher done right!! Some of the most violent kills I have seen in the last five or so years. This is praiseworthy and worth a view for any slasher fans!
This was a badass horror movie. Ya the people in the movie were stupid but hey whats a horror movie with out dumb people to get killed. The slasher was fucking awesome and the gore effects were top notch. They need to make more films like Hatchet, Midnight Movie, and this.
