Frickin' cool. The movie is a great idea and gets you really tense a few times. The movie does seem a bit rushed and not very well directed though. That being said, I loved it just for the story. It was followable. Had a better team made this movie and let it run for two hours or so, the story could've carried it to a ten, but as it is, I'll leave it at above average.
interesting and very disturbing movie, but sadly a bit boring towards the end

Oh what could have been... This movie had so much potential that was just completely wasted. I agree with the poster who said it really started off right, and then for some reason went nowhere. I would love to see the short film because I think that would have been great. There just wasn't enough of a story to flesh it out for as long as they did. I also don't mind movies that kind of leave you guessing, but this movie gave no reason at all for why Grace needed the blood. I'll be honest. My wife and I thought that this was kind of a psychological twister and we were going to find out that the baby had been dead the whole time - it was all in her head. But to get the ending that we did? What could have been a tremendous movie was wasted.
I don't understand why everyone is saying that this was disturbing. Acting and cinematography were amazing, but the story wasn't even close. They started off with a bang and let off the throttle for the remainder of the movie. Definitely felt more like a lifetime movie. Actually it would've been nice if this was just 20-30 mins in length.
The overall story to Grace is nicely original, and one which could be extremely disturbing if done right...but this film wasn't. The acting was well done, but certain aspects were just too ridiculous! One was the scene where Grace has killed her doctor. Her mother in law stops by, asking about the doctor to which Grace says he hasn't been there. After snooping around, mother in law panics while finding the doctors wallet, proving he HAD been there. Ok...so the woman just happened to ignore doctor's car parked right out front?!? How could she have missed it? What, did he walk?
Of course the whole ending was stupid as hell with the god awful lesbian stereotypes the characters all of a sudden sink into. What the hell? Even my lesbian friends would be embarrassed by such stereotypes!
I recommend a viewing, but don't expect a work of art.
Didn't like this movie at all. Rented it and the first 20 minutes were interesting, but after that it falls totally flat.
Boring boring boring.. and I don't get bored easy.. you keep thinking something is going to happen and nothing happens.. it sucks.
The ending is even worse.

I was in the mood for a blood, guts, and mindless gore movie. This sure wasn't that. It was twisted and left me with an uneasy feeling once it had ended. I guess one word to sum it up would be disturbing. I was extremely disturbed, yet fascinated. Anyway, I recommend this to anyone in the mood for a different type of horror movie. It gave me the same uneasy feeling that INSIDE(French Horror Film) gave me.
I have mixed feeling about this movie. On one hand I liked the story. While the movie was kind of slow and slightly repetitive it still flowed well enough to where it didn't feel like you were looking at your watch every 5 minutes. One thing I didn't like was that the characters aren't really likable. The mom who were suppose to sympathize with really doesn't give us much of a reason too as she she seems out of it from the opening scene before anything even happend yet. Whether she was just a poor choice for the lead or what I'm not sure. The only character I felt bad for was henry her father in law becuase his wife was a serious bitch. Thats who I sympathized with poor henry. There were some interesting touches with the movie and I almost thought the movie was going to go in a completely different direction but it stayed on the track it started on. I agree the ending was quite disturbing and seeing what she already had done for the baby things were only going to get worse. This movie wasn't bad but I wouldn't say it was really good either. Its worth seeing but thats about it.
Grace was an interesting film. i liked the story but like most have said, i dont think it warranted a feature length film after already having a short film made. there are several scenes that are cringe worthy and make you squirm(mainly having to do with the birth of the child and some of the milking scenes). i liked the subtle hints that something was wrong such as the flies and the odor. the acting was good overall and it was quite gory, alot more blood than i expected. the main problem i had was there just wasnt enough going on to fill in the running time. i thought it could have easily lost 10-15 minutes and not left anything out. i agree that the ending is pretty messed up. when it was over, i had to ask myself "did i really just see that?" its a unnerving film which is probably going to have more of an effect on soon to be mothers and women who wanna have children because it shows the bond between a mother and her child, no matter the circumstances.

Grace was a visceral punch that kept me cringing.
Extremely creepy and the baby was really scary.
The ending was either one of the most weird, or weirdest endings i have ever seen i a horror movie. i recommend it.
Here's what I learned from GRACE. If a horror film has to constantly remind you of all the high-profile festivals it's screened in, it's probably gonna let you down. Paul Solet has worked so hard to push this film as some sort of elevated genre piece, but at the end of the day, the script doesn't live up to his lofty standards. In the mean time he's unintentionally insulting the true fans by alluding that his film is better then the standard horror fair. While I agree that Grace is better then most of the genre crap today, I can't help but feel slighted when a horror director is afraid to be a horror director. Paul, your a talented guy and congrats on Sundance, but don't forget who your making your films for.
This is interesting movie its intense but it was slow also, its not really gory to me, infact I was reading on BD that someone fainted from the audience, I am not sure why someone fainted it wasn;t that gory at all. I was waiting for a while to see this movie but its worthwatching

Holy crap this movie was intense. I was so disgusted but loved the little zombie baby premise...This movie is definitely a little hard to watch at times. It starts out as such a typical happy suburban mother and her child and jesus turns pretty sinister quick. By the end my mouth was wide open in disgust but I was completely entertained. The realism was intense but overall this movie was pretty solid.
im rather shocked to see the number of people that thought this was disturbing. anyone who was effected by the scissor into the wrist scene needs to spend a little more time viewing actual horror movies as opposed to crying and cringing over this boring fem-fest of a chick flick. this shouldve been released as a $10 walmart double feature with Mean Girls (im sure those who found this movie disturbing are the same group of pink-pillow nerved vaginas that found Mean Girls to be a truly harsh movie, as it is truly inhuman to treat a female classmate with such brutality). i wouldnt doubt it if Paul Solet pulled a Larry (Lana) Wachowski and later became Pauline Solet. BD should remove this from their film database before the website becomes a safe haven for damaged women to workout their issues. the genre is called HORROR for a reason, were looking to be horrifyed, not coaxed into having a man (or woman, doesnt matter) period with severe emotional mood swings.

I must agree with the gook, this definitely belongs on the Lifetime movie network. The only horror that I experienced was when I came the realization that I had wasted 84 minutes of my life watching it. Ok, 84+ min.... I watched the special features.

The movie was pretty fucked up. I think this was some kind of movie made by fuckin peta. Do they not want us to have kids or something, do they not want us to eat meat WTF. Was it good. I thought so, it was pretty creepy in parts. But I think they could of added more and made it at least and 1hr40min but it was still a good movie. Some say it's slow, its not that slow. I think it went by pretty quick. I've seen alot slower then that and alot worst. I still think Adam Green is a good producer and director (he didn't directed this only produced) if you like slow pace movies that leave you wondering if shit like this can happen rent. If not stay way.
And to everyone whos just bashing it for being slow Rent Deadgirl, want slow thats fucking slow. And that movie was pretty good too. Not the best movie ever made like everybody is talking about but it's a good time filler like this movie.

Grace, where do I begin? (Sigh). Grace is nothing more than a Halloween Special on Lifetime Movie Network. It includes all the staples needed for a fun girl’s night out. There are lesbians, women dominance, man bashing, and woman independence. Some may argue that the one scene of scissors puncturing the wrist is brutal. Nay I say, Pink Flamingos is way more disturbing and rather sickening, however, I believe I would rather watch that garbage induced puke-fest than Grace again! Bonus! They offer grace in Blu-Ray! Now you can clearly see how much this movie sucks! From the slow dialogue to the monotonous bland camera angles, Grace leaves me aching for some sort of cinematical rescue which never comes. The only anticipation I received in this film was when grandma was milking herself. I sat up and awaited powdered milk to come rushing from the withered teat! Again disappointment was the result. The only joy I will receive from this film it's inevitable return to the local video store; for which I will file a formal complaint due to the fact that any store carrying rubbish to this extent is surely doomed to rapid closure!. If this is not enough persuasion to the suck-y-ness of this film, the bonus features shows the director begging for people to screen this film. Sadly Sundance raved this film, which makes me wonder "Is this the standard that Sundance now produces?” Again disappointment engulfs my mind. Now if you excuse me, I have to go and remove the tampon that Grace has so delicately shoved up my ass!
**Specil Note**
Unfortunately bloody disgusting would only allow a 2 skull minimum but this disserves FAR less.

One of the extremely few films that made me cringe, and printed an image of a pair of scissors puncturing a wrist, into my head for eternity. Had some good build up too. All I want to know now is...Grace, what the hell is she?
Posted By: MattSlash at 12:34pm, September 24, 2009
This movie had promise but it ended up falling flat and was just plain idiotic. It had a pretty slow build up that led to nothing solid, it had no story or sense behind it and was pointless and the script was almost non existant, so it was pretty much a rotten egg. There were some pretty gruesome, tense moments that will have you cringing in disgust but nothing that makes it standout from other movies of its kind, it just didn't bring anything new to the genre and is very forgettable. It almost comes off as a experimental short/ psychological film based on the length and the filming and it really didn't look like a finished film. The acting was pretty strong even though they didn't have much to work with because of a weak script but they had some intriguing moments but nothing special. Overall I just didn't buy it and in the end it was pretty stupid and disappointing and not disturbing and horrifying as I thought it would be and it was more psychological than a horror movie so don't let it fool you, it was pretty much a waste of time. Not recommended! OVERRATED!!

I really enjoyed this film when I saw it at the Fantasia Film festival
in Montreal back in July.
One of my favourite aspects of the film was how female-centric it was, but the characters were three dimensional as opposed to some of the more recent big budget Hollywood films.
Luckily I was attending the festival in a semi-official capacity, so I
had the opportunity to interview director Paul Solet after the
screening.
If you want to read about his directing style, what it was
like to work in Canada and the difficulties of having babies AND
animals in your feature film debut, check out the interview here:

a slow burner but still a good original movie.. good script and great acting.. recommended but don't expect a gore fest.. not a horror film

Grace is a very simple movie. As many reviews have stated, the film relies on mood, tone, and score. I found the movie's subject matter interesting enough. Some scenes are just plain disturbing, but under all of this is a film showing the bond between mother and child. What is great about the film is that it does not answer questions as to what the baby is.
Posted By: brenda24 at 11:28pm, September 19, 2009
I thought that this film was nicely done. The plot of the story was very disturbing. Being a woman, I can honestly say that if I was ever put in this kind of situation, I would more than likely do the same thing that Madeline did. This film captures the true intensity of the bond between a mother and her child. Although I will also say that this film did strengthen my desire to NOT have children! Overall, a great film, but should not be viewed by everyone.

I had waited for this movie for over a year now. sounded like a come back of new fresh Ideas for a horror movie. Although I agree that Grace had a unique concept and possibly much potential. I was mostly confused and asking myself seriously WTF? I was very disappointed for I have waited for this movie for a very long time.
The acting was great sure and the story line could have gone somewhere if they would have let us in on what was going on. Baby was very cute though...LOL..Hope it does semi well though so we can possibly see more horror movie concepts attempt this. I cant blame you if you want to see this movie for yourself, but word of advise put it on fast forward. and have no expectations!
I can't quite decide if I liked this movie or not...
Pro's:
I like to really put myself in a movie. And as a woman who plans on having her first child in about a year or so, the subject matter can be distressing. The death of your spouse and the fucked up circumstance behind your child's birth combined with what would probably be the postpartum depression from hell... I would probably go batshit crazy, too. And I think JL did a good job portraying depressed, crazy, confused and determined.
Nicely shot. Most of the scenes just looked great.
Good looking gore/blood.
Lots of nice boobies. Bonus.
Con's:
Slow as fuck.
I despise a movie that all of the dialogue is whisper quiet then as soon as you turn it up because you have no idea what they are saying then WHAM! Loud as hell! In the theater it's not so bad. At 4am when you are intoxicated in the dark watchin' movies it just plain sucks.
Too many sub stories:
Yes the bitchy mom-in-law with the breastfeeding fantasies was creepy. But did we need to know all that? No.
The Doctor has some odd medical breast pump fetish. Great. It was enough that he was an asshole. Unnecessary.
Too long.
So all in all I liked it. It was creepy, it made me feel anxious. The thought of carrying a dead baby is fucked. Feeding your nipple to your baby is fucked. But for those of us who are jaded that won't be enough.

I've been hearing festival buzz about the film "Grace" for the better part of a year now. And being the sucker for low budget independent horror, This little film immediately sparked my interest. As time passed, I heard more mixed reviews than overly positive, so my hype started to dwindle.
I recently had the opportunity of seeing this film. Suffice it to say, my expectations were not met. As far as acting, set design, cinematography, and special effects go, everything is top notch. Where the film begins to lose points is in it's often incoherent plot. The basic premise is as follows: Madeline, (Jordan Ladd - Cabin Fever) and her husband have been trying to get pregnant for almost 3 years. After finally accomplishing their goal, they are in a car accident which leaves the baby stillborn. Madeline, with the guidance of her midwife, (Samantha Ferris - Supernatural) decides to carry the baby to term. After delivering the lifeless child in a birthing pool, seconds later the child begins to breathe. Struggling afterward to get her baby to breast feed, Madeline soon realizes that her baby isn't interested in breast milk. Only blood will fulfill this baby's hunger.
All sounds well enough, but the problem I had with this film is that it never actually explains anything. There are, undoubtedly several cringe-worthy scenes, but nothing is ever tied together. You feel as if you've been given a rushed tour of a strip club, without being given the opportunity to check out the obvious attractions of the establishment. I had too many unanswered questions when the credits rolled. Too many things left unexplained. Don't get me wrong, I'm not one of these people who need their plotline force fed to them, I enjoy things being left to the viewers interpretation, but sometimes you have to explain to your audience, just exactly what the hell is going on. Grace fails to do this, and by the time the credits roll, you'll find yourself saying "Ok, What?"
I would still recommend viewing the film, especially for those that are a fan of the indie horror genre, and for those of us out there that enjoy films like "Teeth." Perhaps I had a few too many beers beforehand, and you may find the film totally coherent. If so, please let me know, because I have questions, and they need answers.
Overall, I would give "Grace" Around 2 1/2 out of 5. It wasn't spectacular, but it was definitely a better watch than the likes of most of today's watered down PG-13 horror.
I found this film really mediocre. It lacked any value, the grading was constantly changing and the acting was absolutely less that average. Jordan Ladd wasn't convincing as a mother going through all this turmoil. The supporting cast was nothing to write home about. The film felt like it was trying to be a gritty little gem that would make audiences feel uneasy, but it just didn't follow through.
The baby at times was quite realistic and the cat had some emotion but as for the entire film lacked any pace and when we were supposed to be jolted with a scare or two, I found myself giggling at the poor acting.
In a small way I can make out what Paul Solet was trying to do, having received a BA in Film and Psychology and so this perhaps not a bad 1st attempt.

this movie was one of my favorite horror films of the year! its not a gore fest. but who says horror has to be gory? i believe it was very scary and i love scary movies. i have been trying to find one to scare me for some time now and this one did it. when i mean scary i dont mean SURPRISE! BOO! i mean scary as in it eats your brain, and makes you think whats gonna happen in lil graces future? and is this a 1 time thing? or are there other babies out there that are eating there mamas tatas? look at rosemary's baby? nothing really scary happening but the idea was terrifying. so the film is automatically scary. same with GRACE. i am soo happy i was helping promote this flick all over h-wood and would do it agian if i was offered. im not don spreading this flick like herpes. i am going to introduce this film as i did with repo. ima buy it and take it house to house and show all my peeps. and then (if any success like repo) they will go buy it. good luck paul with your film career! and congratulations on GRACE!
BORING! at only 84 minutes, the pacing is atrocious, it moved incredibly slow. jordan ladd is a terrific actress, but even she couldn't save the film. this has gotta be one of the most overhyped films of the year...what exactly did anyone see in this film that caused them to faint? honestly i was waiting for something insane to happen, but it never did. the movie is not bloody at all, the scenes with the baby look too fake to be taken seriously, and there were a lot of annoying characters(the grandmother) that just made me want to fall asleep. that's probably what the "fainters" did, they fell asleep from boredom. avoid...
Hey Slasher Guy, it's because of shit fans like you that the horror genre has crumbled in the last decade and only uninspired remakes and pg-13 trash can get made now. I hope you are happy, and that you enjoy Halloween 2 next weekend.
PS. Grace is a very unsettling and creepy film, loaded with originality, great performances, and a scary story.
Posted By: Slasher_Guy at 11:28pm, August 14, 2009
Very disappointing and overhyped. This is an example of a short film idea that should have stayed as a short film, because it doesn't work as a feature film. The acting is a mixed bag, the gore is tame, the pacing is very poor (rushed!!) and most of the film consists of Jordan Ladd breastfeeding a baby and that's it. The horror and violence only really starts happening in the last ten minutes...all the other 'horror' before this was just a baby crying and some CGI flies flying around. I can see a lot of horror fans being disappointed with this one -- such a disappointment.
