If I can say anything about this film, it is really fun. It makes fun of its own structure during the entire run time of the film and honestly I loved it. There were definite plot holes, but overall this made me leave the theater feeling great. I personally think it was well made especially thanks to the settings, and some of the acting talents.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh I love Milla Jovovich. Im a huge fan of eveerything she does, Hell I even found some good in Ultraviolet. But what the hell was this? More scenic than scary. I knew the twist right off, but thats not what made it a bad movie. It mostly was the cast, who might I add did not click. the plot which there wasnt one, and the very slow story. Timothy Olyphant stole the movie His chacarter was pretty different, and that is what I mean by the casr didnt click. He pretty much took over the lead. I wasnt happy with this movie at all. Hardly any Gore, no start, confusing ending. Ugh... Ill give it a 5 because the shooting scenes were absoulely beautiful.

Just like everyone is saying, I also already knew "the twist" which was so fuckin predictable its funny. They really thought they were fooling us when in reality the audience already played out the whole movie in their heads. You could tell this writer was in it for the check. Well, at least they TRIED to make a good ORIGINAL thriller, but unfortunately they failed miserably.

Interesting concept though predictable in it's supposed "twist" at the end.
Milla Jovovich's acting skills are less than impressive in fact she brought the movie down for me.
If you're looking for graphic vilolence or high level gore you will be sorely disappointed..all that being said worth watching for Steven Zahn though def wait for the dvd and even then get a coupon.

The "Shocking twist" sub-genre is not new to the horror/thriller genre, but it's certainly over-saturated the market for the last decade or so. Most of these films have a twist ending, just for the sake of having a twist ending. As if it were an afterthought. A Perfect Getaway is another type of "Twist ending" films, the entire movie was designed around the plot twist at the end. This can be a great success, or fail greatly. In the case of this film, it failed, at least for me.

The problem with this film is not it's cinematography, it was beautifully filmed on the beaches of Hawaii, and the jungles of Puerto Rico. The acting was also well done. The problem is, it's main plot device, the "Twist" is very easily detectable within the first 5 minutes of the movie, if you're paying close attention. Once you realize what the twist at the end is going to be, the following 80 minutes, give or take is a complete waste. It's the type of film that spends 9/10ths of the duration setting up the plot twist at the end, and then all the action happens in the last 10 minutes. The way the plot twist is revealed is also pretty underwhelming.

Don't go out of your way to see this film, as it aims to disappoint. If you still want to see it, I'd recommend a netflix rental at best, or maybe even waiting for it to show up on Showtime.

Overall, I'd give "A Perfect Getaway" 1.5/5

I went into this movie already knowing that it would have a twist ending and I predicted the right killers before the movie had even started. The movie was very predictable and nothing really SURPRISED me in the movie. This is not something that I would see again or recommend for others to see. I thought the movie would be better and have more action in it.

Perfect example of why its a HUGE MISTAKE to advertise a "twist" in a film, the whole start to end your mind has that fact sinking in your mind and you probably overload your brain to figure things out and look at what could possibly be a "twist" therefor eliminating the movie going experience all together.

The preview of this film completly ruined the movie watching experience for me with this film, with that said it was predictable and nothing more than another who-done-it film where its pretty obvious who done it because you know theres going to be a twist, therefor the misdirection contained within the film is pointless and ruined.

I didn't think the twist was shocking or creative at all, but I was thoroughly entertained (and impressed) with the build-up, so I'm putting that aside and giving it a fairly high rating.

LOL....THAT COMMENT "mr. disgusting is annoying."
IS FUNNI....HAHAHA

Well the twist was kind of surprising and the cast and locations were solid but I still didn't find anything thrilling or tension filled in this so called adventure/thriller. It started off pretty slow introducing us to three couples and one of the three couples might be the honeymoon killers looking for their next unsuspecting victims. It's pretty much a whodunit from there on and I got taken back when I finally figured it out and in the back of my head I kind of knew that that will be the result, after that it lost its steam if it had any and it kind of had a safe cop out ending that didn't race any pulses at least for me. Overall this was a servicable thriller that had a great cast and scenery but I wish it could of gone darker and deeper and it just could of been way better than what it ended up being and to me it almost can pass as a PG-13 movie. Wait for the dvd release! More of a 2.5 out of 5 stars than a 3 star rating.

just watch the last 40 minutes yhe rest is boring

Posted By: VeryEvilDead at 10:55pm, August 13, 2009

The twist is very easy to figure out...

but

Its still an enjoyable movie. Before the twist is revealed, the story was interesting and kept me hooked. If you figure the twist out, which any movie nut will, it kind of takes away from the whole reveal (obviously). But then the last 15 minutes are a very exciting chase. Timothy Olyphant is awesome as usual. Worth seeing.

Fantastic action/mystery/suspense thriller. If you go in expecting a slasher film or a horror film, then prepare to be disappointed by your own stupidity. The film has beautiful cinematography and locations, crisp directing and some great fight sequences, solid performances (Timothy was excellent) and an excellent screenplay with lots of film references, quotes and screenwriting references. The twist plays out well and the movie never fails to entertain, despite being a slow-burner at times. I've also read the screenplay and it's definately the best screenplay I've read. One of my faves of 2009 overall! :)

Before going into the movie, I already knew how it was going to end. Not because I found out, but I knew it was supposed to have a huge twist. So naturally, I thought what would happen is what actually happened. But when I actually was in the theater watching the movie, I forgot about the twist and bought into what the director/writer was doing... throwing the audience off. That's why when the twist actually came, it caught me off guard. So I have to give it to the good performances by Mila and Steve, and of course Timothy and the other girl. They were all awesome. This movie will not blow you away or anything, but it is a entertaining watch none the less.

At first i thought this is going to be lame. But, at the end of it I thought it was well done. Also it turned out to be a really good movie. I do know i know the story line from some other movie (can't put my finger on it) but, still It was well done! It was worth the $$.

Posted By: xln10 at 12:01am, August 11, 2009

it was okay. I think it would have been better if it wasn't as predictable. Happy my favourite couple lived!

When “A Perfect Getaway” was first announced, I thought that it would be extremely similar to “The Strangers”. But from looking at the previews and TV spots, I knew it was going for more of an action feel with some horror elements thrown in. I really didn’t care about seeing it, but my father was off work and we had nothing to do, so I suggested we go see this. In my opinion, the film is very mediocre, its not bad and its certainly isn’t anything special, its just very “amateur”. The writing really, really, sucks and is the reason why the film sucks. Not to mention the dialogue is laughable. David Twohy BOTH wrote and directed the film, but I honestly think he should just stick to directing, because his writing, for this film at least, really blows. Everything is so damn cliché and has been done a trillion times already. You’ll know the “twist” halfway through the film, its that damn predictable. The “twist” has been done in a trillion other psychological thrillers this decade already. I would name a few of the films its been done in, but me doing that will give away this film. A Perfect Getaway was a decent way to kill a few hours, but it did nothing to really stick out, I know I’m going to forget this film by later tonight. I suggest waiting for the DVD. I’ll only recommend this for fans of the whole “Lost In The Woods” type films. Once again, the writing was HORRIBLE! D+ for the film overall. PS. No idea how this got an “R” rating, this could’ve easily been PG-13, but I guess it got an R due to some of the vulgar language. So sorry gorehounds.

I went to see this right after the collector.Maybe that was a bad idea.I thought much of it was weak and yes I had the ending pinned but the best part was the ending. The actual two characters I liked survived. All four did a great job in their role especially Milla. It was different for her.Worth checking out but its straight up thriller guys....no horror! think the old thrillers of the nineties!and then enjoy because I was looking for a gutsier movie!

Posted By: Case at 11:10pm, August 8, 2009

Did we really need the 15 minutes of explanation footage as to who the killers were? I was seriously sitting there wondering when It was going to be over. Along with everyone else, I too discovered out who the killers were closer to the beginning/half way point of the movie. I was hoping they would have showed more of Olyphant's American-Jedi skills at the end, but that didn't happen. This was a forgettable movie in my opinion, and I probably won't be watching it on dvd again when it comes out.

A Perfect Getaway i saw last night,I thought the movie to be actuially enertaining and kept me enertained throughout the movie.Of course there was not as many twists and suspensful moments in this movie like i thought there would be but the ending totally didnt find happening. But overall the movie was enertaining but you probally should wait for DVD.

Posted By: Scottyboy at 3:19pm, August 8, 2009

It was a decent movie. I expected something a little different. The twist obvious. I knew like after 5 minutes into the movie what is was gonna be. Overall decent flick its worth a watch... id wait for dvd though.

I wanted a little more out of this movie, walked away feeling like i had scene this sorta movie a hundred times before...some scene's were entertaining, really can't say right now if i will ever watch again, steve zahn was great though.

This movie was very good at entertaining the viewer. The acting was superb and the visual effects were great. Although the ending was guessed by many, I was still surprised. I highly recommend this movie to anyone who wants to go to the cinema and have a fun experience.

Posted By: aaronmb at 6:16am, August 8, 2009

very boring...."graphic violence"? hardly

Posted By: WalkingDeadGuy at 4:11am, August 8, 2009

Just got back from watching 'A perfect getaway' Really good thriller guys. I figured out the twist about half way through the movie but it did a good job at throwing you off the first half. This film never tries to be "horror" but delivers the goods anyway. Very entertaining thriller but once you have seen it once and know the twist's, it will loose it's edge in repeat viewing. Entertaining none the less.

solid.. entertaining the whole through.. i really like steve zahn

Posted By: nohandtyper at 10:03pm, August 7, 2009

I have to say, I really enjoyed this movie. While I thought I knew how it was going to end going into it (I was right), I was thrown way off for quite a bit of the movie. It just didnt seem that kind that would fall where I figured it would. I figured I was right though about 30 minutes before the twist was revealed. All in all, it did throw me off. great movie, great acting, good twist, great story. I really did enjoy this one!

Posted By: kishi121 at 5:15pm, August 7, 2009

A good movie. Not what I was expecting. The first hour was pretty boring but the last half hour was pretty good. The ending was really good. Could have been better but good enough to see once or twice. Milla is still hot though!!!

Posted By: Lionel Cosgrove at 5:10pm, August 7, 2009

Although blazingly predictable (thanks to the terrible ad campaign) A Perfect Getaway is entertaining from start to finish. I was throughly engaged, and I even jumped a few times. For that alone I give it a thumbs up, because really, what movies accomplish that these days?

Posted By: jeffpm80 at 6:58am, August 7, 2009

Is this the best thriller/horror type movie that has come out within the past few weeks? No.
Is it a decent genre movie that entertained me? Yes.
The ending is very obvious, but like Mr. Disgusting said in his review it depends on the individual. If you've seen a lot of these movies you will know the ending, otherwise you might be surprised.

Kudos to the cast for each and every one of them giving great performances.

Posted By: bangor09 at 4:07am, August 7, 2009

I had very low expectations for this film, but DARN IT, I liked it, and very much, the acting, the pace, and sure, maybe more than a few will guess the ending (I did, and I'm not Stephen King)but it's still a very good movie, give it a try, it's not like we have TONS of good movies laying around on the theaters anyway, I recommend it.
