Ummm so Shiver makes my top 5 of all time great horror movies. I really didnt expect much out of this film, however once it got started for once in years, since I was a child I was scaried. The plot in this movie centers around a true story from the early 1900's of a child lost in the jungle and rasied by animals. They took that story and added some horror to it. No aliens, no Yeti, no killer mutant fish. The monster in this film is one that you actually grow to feel sorry for. A creepy, entertaining film. These Foreign films are truly my Fav's. If you are a true horror movie lover this is one you have to see.
I really enjoyed this film... it wasn't anything special but it was entertaining.
I jumped and covered my eyes a few times lol so it has it's moments of horror. But mostly this film was drama I guess but it was fun and definitly worth a watch I'd recomend it to anyone who dosen't mind sub's :D 6 out of 10
In a time when Hollywood doesn’t have a clue as to anything original and relies on remaking just about every horror classic it’s refreshing to find the Europeans are still churning out decent, pretty original, material. “The Orphanage”, “Rec”, “Let the Right One In’, and now “Shiver” directed by Isidro Ortiz. It’s not fantastic but is pretty high up there on my list of favorites. The art direction is by Pilar Revuelta, who did the same on “Pan’s Labyrinth” and enriches the film with moody atmosphere and doesn’t have to rely on cgi or gimmicks.
The films centers around a young teen by the name of Santi, who suffers from a rare skin condition that makes him allergic to sunlight. An opening scene finds him running from the light as his skin begins to blister and so forth. I’m not sure why but his cuspids are even a bit enlarged. Is Santi a vampire in the making? In any event, him and his mom, at the advice of Santi’s doctor, head north where the days are shorter. Once they arrive a local farmer has one of his sheep ripped to shreds, and it isn’t the first time it’s happened and this leads to a string of murders. I won’t divulge much more, although the payoff is a bit weak and one you can see coming, it’s still a tight mystery/horror thriller.
I VERY MUCH ENJOYED THIS FILM. WHEN I GO TO WATCH A FILM, I PAY ATTENTION TO IT IN IT'S OWN RIGHT. I DO NOT SUB CONSCIOUSLY COMPARE IT TO ANOTHER FILM. I LOVED THE FACT THAT INSTEAD OF A MONSTER IN THE FOREST OR SOME DEMENTED FUCKING RED NECK, THAT IT WAS A FERAL CHILD THAT LEARNED TO LIVE IN THE WOODS AMONGST THE ANIMALS. THE TWIST AT THE END HAD ME ON EDGE, REALIZING WHAT HAPPENED TO HER PARENTS. OVERALL A GOOD MOVIE.
