i was raised watching these old universal monster films. they will always hold a very special place in my book. i love modern horror. i love the new scares, and the new gore effects. but to me, these are the films that shape how i lood at horror. the first horror film i ever saw was the original frankenstein, so this film is a gem to me. bela lugosi, the best dracula to be on screen, stars in his best role that he created himself, as igor, one of the most brilliant preformances ever. the immortal boris karloff is spectacular as the creature. while many disagree, i think this is classic horror. jack pierce to me is the master of monster makeup. these films shaped all other horror films to come. this film is immortal.
this movie would have been so much better with a more interesting and continual learning version of the frankenstein monster, karloff rules as frankenstein but of the first original three he was in this was the worst as far as his material given to performance.
