yeah, a new beginning of a box office flop! having a horror film based in a mental institute just isn't that fun anymore. this movie wasn't all that good.
although i'll have to admit, making it that it was someone using Jason's MO instead having Jason as the killer was a surprise, so i'll give this movie credit for the surprise ending
This movie is really good! I can't believe that people actually hate this movie just because Jason isn't in it!Its not the best F13 movie, but its far from being the worst! It was even more enjoyable than the 1st one!I know the first one is a classic and it started it all, but let's face it, its kinda boring(but still good). Part 5 has a higher body count and great kills. I admit, it is disappointing that Jason isn't in it, but its not a big deal.

I enjoyed it for what it was. It had fun kills also I liked how someone decided to mimic Jason. Alot of people don't understand why someone else was Jason (conman1994..Apr. 5th 2009)well he did it because his son was killed by the ax man at the beginning and he was a paramedic and he saw his son butchered so he decided to pose as Jason in a way to kill everyone at the halfway house for letting it happen and didn't want anyone to know who was doing it, thats why at the end the cop told Pam at the hospial lobby it was (Roy/Paramedic)cause he had a picture of his son in his wallet. Hope that helped
part 5 had to be poor,if your a true horror fan think of all the parts 5 in any horror franchise.........................exactly dont ask me why, strange hey. But this one did have some tastey kills, love the belt scene
great kills but the copycat killer thing is the fucking lamest fucking story they could have came up with gimme a break. By far the worst friday the 13th(besides jason x of course). If your a true Jason fan you will be beyond pissed at the end.A good violent movie wasted by stupid retarded fucking writers.
This was a new thing they tried and I thought it went well. Not one of the best, but I still liked it.
SPOILER
Conman1994 they do explain why he decided to pretend to be Jason. It was because the guy in the beginning who killed the orphan, the orphan was they "Jason's" son.
Looked down by most as "the one without Jason", look people you get a guy, in a hockey mask, killing annoying people, what more do you want?! You don't even find out it isn't him 'till the end anyway. The series tried something a lil different (not much), don't hate, enjoy what is there. Some gory kills, one of the best sets of tits to grace the franchise & Jason returns so it's all good. Get over it.
While it is certainly not the best Friday film, and many people hate it due to the lack of Jason, A New Beginning does have one of the highest body counts, and is enjoyable on a ridiculous level.
This was so lame and there was no Jason. And they should had left the plot at the beginning because it really sucked. But it is a slasher of the Friday the 13th series so I will give a 4/10, if the killer had not worn a hockey mask it would have been a 2/10 :D
Bleh. Don't even get me started on how dreadful this movie is.
"A new beginning"? To what? Crap? Cause that's all I watched. From the totally obnoxious characters to the lack of Jason to even the hockey mask being blatantly different.
now this movie in the series made me lose respect for it, because the idea seemed okay, but they never explained why the killer pretends to be jason, but it did seem to have the most painful looking deaths, i'll give it that.
In principle I have a lot of respect for this film. It seems like it was made with the earnest attempt to perpetuate the F13 formula, but at the same time respect the conclusion that Part 4 provided for the Jason Voorhees character.
That being said the film its is a steamy pile of machete sliced bowel.
It suffers from the same problem that the first Nightmare sequel did, which is that it's main character has been stricken with the unfortunate condition of being male and therefore needs to come across as boring.
Don't get me wrong, the Tommy Jarvis we see in both Part 4 and Part 6 is not only interesting but also a worthy opponent for our beloved friend captain hockey mask. It's just that the Tommy Jarvis we see in Part 5 is as dumb as a bag of hammers, and his insistence on not talking due to a supposed, some how temporary case of PTSD (it's never mentioned once in Jason Lives) means that he can't even seem to do the one thing every main character is supposed to do which is carry the fucking story. It's left to all of the other critically inflated cliches passing as secondary characters to fill in the gaps with their obviously leading dialogue.
Watching this movie kind of makes me want to have a stroke. I can't understand why someone whose survival means the very most to them spends most of the film rocking in a corner waiting for Jason to beat his brains.
But I have another theory as to why this sequel falls short... are you ready?... Here it goes, basically I think the developers just thought too hard about it. I know that seems ridiculous and I'm not saying that it's an intelligent film at all, but see where I'm trying to go with this.
In all of the other films the teens that we encounter are for the most part the naive, unsuspecting, out to have a good time with friends type; all of a sudden the opportunity to make part 5 comes along, and someone gets the big the idea that it should follow the character of the little boy from part 4. Only now, wouldn't it be cool to give him REAL psychological trauma and have the whole thing set around his time in a rehabilitation facility surrounded by other teens with their own bleak problems. Add to that the whole makeshift attempt to write around the absence of Jason while still trying to find a way to pass it off as a Jason movie and you come up with one awkward, over written and ultimately unscary, fubar, franchise piece of shit.
The F13 model is NOT complicated, wrangle a few generic teens from central casting, give them dialogue that makes it a wonder they haven't died already from their own stupidity, drop them in the woods, have the power go out as soon as it gets dark and let the bodies start to pile up...That's it. You DON'T need to complicate it... look at Part 6, such a brilliantly self-referential return to form that it feels like it's kicking off a goddamn slasher renaissance.
A New Beginning is like that weird cousin you have who you might stick in the family album once in a while, but you wouldn't really want to invite to your wedding... I suppose that's a pretty piss poor simile but fuck it, it's a pretty piss poor movie.

Friday the 13th Part V: A new beginning is a worthy movie, but a terrible movie. This film was solely made for a die hard Jason Voorhees fan, if you aren't, stay away from this film at all costs. If you are and having checked this film out, I'd say see it once.
Friday the 13th Part V: A new beginning is yet another film in the Jason franchise. The film is about a man who is brought to this place because they think he's psycho. And no this is not crazy Ralph if that's what you're thinking. Then while that is going on Jason is still out in the woods slaughtered people.
Part V is a good sequel. The body count is definitely an improvement and the kills are much more gruesome then the previous films. Nevertheless, it's simply a bad movie. Words can't describe how awful the acting is. I actually hated everybody in this movie. Even are fellow virgins were not even that worthy.
This film never felt like a Friday the 13th film. If it wasn't for Jason I would have guessed this was a different film. And no, I'm not complementing the film for its originality because it basically has none. Where's crazy Ralph from the first three films? Would ever happened to Camp Crystal Lake or any back story to Jason's mother, Pamela Voorhees? All that is missing my fellow Jason fans.
Overall, Friday the 13th Part V: A new beginning is just a worthy sequel. That's all I can say positive about this film. Besides that, the film sucks. The acting is awful and the film didn't feel like a Friday the 13th. But, of course every Friday the 13th has the same formula. While it isn't a terrible film it brings nothing new to the table or good. I give Friday the 13th Part V: A new beginning 5 out of 10 skulls or 2 1/2 skulls out of 5.

All part 5 of any horror movie sucks.
-A Nightmare on Elm Street 5
-Saw 5
-Halloween 5
-Hellraiser 5
-Seed of Chucky
-Police Academy 5
The only thing good about this movie is it had the most kills and it made me laugh. The fat kid Joey with his candybar getting axed in the back. Hillarious.
Not the worst of the series that many make out to be , that honour falls to 8,9 and X. It was good that the film makers followed on with Tommy Jarvis' story and that he is still fucked up over Part 4. This has a great beginning with the dream sequence and most of the kills are still above standard, its just that this one lacks, something and no not the fact that Jason isn't the killer. Maybe its the fact that it was takewn away from Crystal Lake and now all the action happens around a halfway house/mental hospital farm house. Anyway def worth a watch
I loved this one even though Jason was not the killer it was fun to watch the surviver kid Tommy still on edge over Jason Vorhees goes to a half way house to try and get his barrings and some imitator kills the people around him. I thought it was some good ol fun.

i loved this one!
man it would be nice to see an UNCUT version of this!
The story was ok... until Jason is revealed to be some ambulance driver seeking revenge the ending was a bit disappointing but it does set it up for part 6
This isn't bad. It's the first Friday movie that I seen, and you can imagine why I was confused at the end. But it's enjoyable, some of the characters are really good and it had some good death scenes. I kind of liked how the plot attempted to try and get away from Jason, other than just bringing him back right away. Also, most boobs in a Jason movie... and that one guy's death in the bathroom portapotti (however you spell that) still creeps me out. Not knowing when that spear is going to drive into you -- creepy.

This is notoriously considered the worst of the series, and has recently been compared to "Saw V". Like most Jason films, this is not exactly "solid". It does, however, maintain the tradition of creative kills and quirky characters that you get to see picked off one by one. If nothing else, this is worth watching for the scene with the chick dancing! WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT? I was very young when this came out, and my only memories of the 80's are as a young child, but I don't remember anything like that!!
Under-rated. It's all kinds of stupid, but not neccasarily the worst of the series.

one of the least popular of the series, highly underated as a jason film, it was pretty fun and had some silly characters that are fun to watch get picked off
I know a series can STILL be good going further than part 4 but this really was a big pile of garbage it was like friday the 13ths halloween 3 without the main killer but otherwise it was kinda funny watching hardcore sex and teenagers getting murdered.
I will have and always will hate this film to death for me it was the worst in the series what a load of BullSh*t this really reminds me of Halloween 3 no Jason huh the dam impersonator sucks the new Jason really is absolutely horrible. The setting sucked, the score was different but still sucked the acting was totally garbage the ending sucked what a load of crap. After 4 memorable movies we get this. Roy Burns YOU SUCK!! Worst in the series.
While I think the 'Friday the 13th' films just suck, I've never considered one of them totally worthless and irredeemable - until I saw this. Honestly, this film should be in the dictionary right under the word "worthless", it really would describe the word better than any description ever could. It's retarded, nauseatingly boring, the plot is somehow even worse than the other film's, and there's very little gore. Waste. of. film.
I just rewatched this. Probably havenot seen this in over ten yrs. I dont get why people hate this so much. Its not a bad flick what so ever. The kills were fun and Pseudo Jason at least looks cool. Reggie is rather annoying, and I wish his ass wouldve gotten impaled or something. My biggest gripe with this film is that when Pseudo Jason kills, they dont show it, it wouldve gotten more points from me for that. Having some offscreen kills to get your imagination going is cool, but there were too many IMO. But as I said, this was enjoyable and I dont get the hate.
Dont let Pseudo Jason ruin your time.
This is my least favorite Friday movie. First off the whole no Jason thing sucked. Second, they got the warpaint on the mask wrong, wouldn't Tommy be able to tell if it wasn't Jason. And third some of the characters were REALLY annoying. Like that kid's big brother. He and his voice and the whole enchilada thing was stupid. If this movie never existed, noone would notice because it has no benefit whatsoever to th main story. And the ending just plain SUCKED. I mean, in Part VI, he wasn't even in a mental hospital after that. In fact, they never even touched that Tommy picked up that knife and put on the fake Jason's mask.
So many people hate this friday, but let me tell you. This being my first taste of jason at a young age this one is my favorite. It will always hold that place in my heart. The story is so good, and character interaction is very well done. This movie is beleivable and draws you in to love the characters. Which is something you don't do in the others. I have seen this one more than any others and i always take this one camping with me. Most of the fridays in fact cause nothing better than being in the woods in a tent and watching someone else in the woods getting killed. I highly recommend that. Any way watch this one and don't mind the peoople who hate it. They are just mad at it.
