Videodrome is a much darker movie than Cronenberg's other famous film "Scanners". It is a fairly disturbing movie with amazing visual effects that should be seen by any horror/sci fi fan. The storyline can be hard to understand at some points but when paying enough attention you'll be able to work it out. The gore in this movie is great, and watching James Woods slow, painful, and odd descent into madness is extremely enjoyable and entertaining throughout, if you haven't seen this yet you are truly missing out.
Just one big fucked up masterpiece. Cronenberg's best? Maybe. Damn close anyways.
Even to this day, these effects are awesome. It's such a shame we don't see this type of stuff in horror so much anymore. I mean, just look at the images to the left! Sick, sick and fucking bad ass.
Social commentary at it's most brutal. Long live the flesh, indeed.
Good Parts- great acting, great gore effects, very creepy and sureal movie, entertaining for the most part
Bad Parts-the plot can become confusing(real and hallucinations become mixed and it is very confusing to tell them apart at times), pace can be slow at times
Overall an entertaining film with good effects, a good but weird watch
8/10

"long live the new flesh"
Chose this for my 1st foray into the works of David Cronenberg, and I believe it was a wise choice. Surreal, hallucinogenic, and yet not as disturbing as I thought. Perhaps its because many of the things Videodrome offers are less "uncouth" in this day and age. Still, this movie still works. The acting is top notch, James Woods playing the unlikable scum-bag, Debbie Harry as the sexy masochist- they fit in with the strangness of the film well. Not for everyone, but don't let it's "disturbing" nature stop you- this movie is something else, something familiar.
This movie is strange. Period. It is films like this that gave Cronenberg his good name and style. He always manages to go outside typical horror genre and create something utterly different and visual.
This film is not loaded to the brim with gore and blood, but the scenes that do have some visual makeup effects are done pretty well, especially one of the very last scenes of the movie, which I now have to retract my previous statement and say this movie does have one portion that is filled with gore, nicely done too.
Bottom line, if your looking for something with a sci-fi theme to it with great effects and and utterly strange and confusing plot from a brialliant director, this movie may satisfy those needs. I give it a 7/10.
Great movie. I love how different this movie is. The part that James Woods played was perfect or him and he did an awesome job. The special effects were sweet too.
