I liked the girls but that was about it

I thought this movie would be a nice gory combo of Evil Dead and I Spit On Your Grave. What I got was a semi-gory, semi-sexy, ultra-mediocre vampire flick! I loved the girls(for the most part, I guess), but the main villains were pathetic, not to mention the useless cops(sorry, Tim Thomerson). It would have worked if it was more of an exploitation flick, not some dumbed-down version of what Flesh For The Beast was. I do agree with Alien Jourgensen's score and Marc Senter's nutty performance though.

Meh.

All I could think throughout this entire experience was "What the hell?"

Wicked Lake is a "Film" that isn't quite sure what it wants to be. Is it a slasher flick? I's it a Witch flick? is it a revenge flick? Is it a "Kids in a cabin" flick? I dont know, and neither did the filmmakers apparently.

The film never really goes anywhere, nor does it explain what it is that you've just witnessed.

Unless you're really hardup for some SUPER softcore lesbian porn, and a few scenes of badly done gore effects, give Wicked Lake a miss.

2/10

Awful, horrible movie. The lesbian scenes are hot but not even worth a rental to see. The film feels like it wants to be serious like I Spit on Your Grave, but wants to be comical like Troma. IT FUCKING SUCKS EITHER WAY. The actors should leave this trash of their resume and no one should have to suffer through this excruciatingly painful scuzz. I went in with VERY high expectations, which was obviously not a good idea. It's not disturbing and the lesbian sex gets extremely old after awhile. I cannot believe that some respectable sites gave this a half-good review and I am going to throw my copy in the trash can.

Once I read the article for "Wicked Lake" in the new issue of Fango, I was excited a new horror movie would be extremely gory, dark, and brutal. After I finished viewing the film I was left with utter disapointment. Very little gore, the only instance of the film being dark was the cinematography, and the brutality level was low because there was no compassion for the four girls. As soon as the men appear and begin to torture them one says, "Just wait until midnight." So, you know the tables will be turned and you know when.
I was expecting more from the writer Adam Rockoff, who penned "Going to Pieces" which was an excellent documentary on the horror genre, but his screenplay was sub-par. I will admit he has potential, he just needs to take more time to work out all the kinks.
There are positives to this film, however: Al Jourgensen's soundtrack and Marc Senter's performance. Jourgensen's remakes of classic songs are better than the originals and Senter's creepy, kooky imitation of Crispin Glover(even if it wasn't intentional) was very humourous. I just wish he was active instead of being attached to the front door.
I wish I could recommend this, but I can't say I do. Everyone involved needs to take some time and rework their ideas for a better film. And please, when you say, more or less, Wicked Lake is going to be more extreme than the Saws or Hostels, you better deliver. Because Feast 2 was gorier and more brutal than those films and you couldn't top that? Better luck next time.
