This is an American remake of the successful Spanish horror film “Rec.” I’m not sure if it is better than the Spanish original, but it could be. This is really saying something for the film, considering that most American remakes of Spanish films flop, e.g. “Vanilla Sky.” This film builds into a very creepy, scary ending like the Spanish original.
I wanted to like this movie but I just can't do it. The hand held camera shooting gives me a headache and ruins movies for me. Why would I want to watch something out of focus and moving around so fast that I have no idea what I'm looking at. Hated it.
this is just like 'Psycho', a duplicate of the original except for actors. i haven't even seen 'REC', but i've read a plot summary on Wikipedia and IMDB, and it definetely sounds like a shot-for-shot.
hearing all the hype about REC(which I haven't seen before)I was anticipating this remake. I thought the film was decent it had good gore fx and ok acting I guess. The camera was kind of annoying at times but you could deal with it. I would recommend you watch it at least once its pretty good for a remake.

A shot for shot remake of the original. Don't bother watching this one as the original Spanish version is fantastic and there was no reason for this movie to be made.
Not at all fond of this hand-held camera crap a la Blair Witch and Cloverfield so unsurprisingly, I didn't enjoy this movie. At all. That doesn't even take in account the boredom I experienced and the sense of annoyance I felt with the main characters. One big yawn.
An pretty intense, chaotic horror movie that kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish, but they could of done more stuff with it and gone deeper into things, it just came off as a little rushed to me. Jennifer Carpenter was the only believable person in this movie, she gave it her all, good job! I wouldn't say it's very gory but there are some parts that made me turn my head. Of course the original movie [REC.] isn't available here in the United States yet, but if it's anything like this I think it's overrated in my opinion just like the Saw movies. I mean this has been done many times before and I still think Cloverfield is the best one of them all and this one doesn't top it sadly, but it is the less shaky one. Though it was very intense, there wasn't anything scary or shocking in it to me but it will get your heart pumping and will have you bitting your nails but nothing too terrifying. Overall if you want a pretty good spook this halloween check this out it's not half bad, just a little overrated.
wow...
this is definitely one of my top favorite movies!!
the gore effects were great and the acting was to!
I can't wait for the sequel to come out!
10/10
quarantine was a decent horror movie.
nothing nearly as close as REC but still not bad.
i actually saw quarantine before i saw REC so i really liked this movie but since i saw REC, this movie really isnt anything to love. it was still alright though. i highly recommend watching REC more than this movie though.
It gave me a nightmare or two, and it takes a lot for a movie to do that to me, so I give it major props. Also, it was freaking sweet to see Judith from Two and a Half Men get totally owned multiple times. Definitely worth seeing, and also even kinda believable.
This movie in one word: tense.
I think my hands were squeezed into fists the entire movie. Having followed production from the first time I'd seen the trailer months before release, I went into the film feeling apprehension from the opening credits. I had a good feeling about this one, and I'd read many good reviews.
The thing about this movie was, it never ran out of creativity. Now, I know it was technically a remake so technically the American filmakers get no credit for creativity, but still this film was very well made. The acting was incredible, the special effects incredible, the style highly effective, and the action intensly creepy.
The good mark of a horror movie is that you always want to know what's going to happen next. Quarantine constantly has a grip on your attention, besides the fact that every scene is a new scare.
I'll admit I sat down to watch this movie in the mind set that it was going to be a huge p.o.s., but it was awesome. Very tense and scary. Nice death sequences. Cant wait for the sequel!
I realllly enjoyed this movie! I have never seen the original. I loved the tense feeling, the non-stop fucked up shit happening and the gross shit! When I saw it in the theatre the first time my man was damned near in my lap!
listen if u liked [rec.] then u liked quarantine they r 95% shot 4 shot the same. everything feels better, taste better, seems better the first time. i liked it it had suspense, gore and doug jones.
What a pile of crap!!! Im sick of all this hand held camera shit. If i want to get an instant headache i will go buy some crap rap cd. Pretty lame movie and way over hyped!
This movie is so awesome, scary, and intense!
The plot was great, a reporter, camera-man, Firefighters, police officers and residents of an apartment complex trapped!
Looked very real in every scene... The mutants were just scary!
I would have loved this movie if not for the entire "Blair Witch" crap style in which it was filmed! In CLOVERFIELD, the random guy filming is actually pretty good. Convenient and unbelievable, yes, but I'll take it over the likes of unwatchable camera work like in QUARANTINE.
And here, the camera guy is supposed to be a pro - so why does he suck so bad? I am so sick of these lazy "NO TRIPOD" directors who think they are being edgy and documentary style. They are really just cutting corners and don't know how to make professional looking films! Wasn't Blair Witch like 10 years ago??
When the movie theatre attendant warned me that this film could make me physically sick - I thought "Must be good!" But it's not the gore making you sick - it's the focus ring!!! Hand held doesn't have to be bad and shaky. These guys need to go to film school!
Why is anyone giving this movie a good rating. The only thing great about this movie was the marketing.
It suckered so many ppl in and then let us all down with a boring slow movie with all bark and no bite.
Another hard film to accurately judge. Is quarantine. The film was very well shot, and seriously had some of the best acting I have seen in a long time. I actually believed the actors and the situation that they were in. There were no heroes and no easy way out. Very realistic. But to me, where this fails, is the answer to why the events took place. If you haven't seen it I won't give it away, but [REC] for which this film is a remake of, had the better explanation in my opinion. REC was just a tad bit more eerie to me, considering the slightly lower budget and the explanation of the out break. Whereas quarantine had a more realistic explanation, and a better looking "skinny guy". This is a decent movie, with great acting, but its hard for me to reccomend when i like REC slightly better. If you haven't seen REC watch it first, if you have, then rent this first. The differences aren't huge. but to me the ones that i stated make the difference.
Ok,......REALLY wanted to see this looked great, sounded like a really good concept. Then I saw it......felt like you were having sex with someone famous....then woke up with a homeless bag lady. Want my self esteem back, DAMN I feel used
I loved the camera work, found the story plausible, and actually bought into the idea that they were "trapped" in the building- which the whole movie rests upon. If you just want gore, though, this ain't your movie.
this is gunna be a very one sided review as i have not seen (rec). I thought this movie was cool and scary until the kid scene that goofed it up a bit(also you just saw her bite someones face off why would you walk up to her in the dark and try to help her?).THe sick..? people were cool the noises and such,as was the creepy claustrophobic setting, the actors were just that, and i didnt realy need the mad scientist, attic baby creature ending. im kinda torn it def had its moments....i wanna see rec i heard its the dominent version.
This movie's awesome. There's something so much more real and intense when filmed this way. I'm surprised more horror films haven't jumped on the bandwagon, but I'm glad they haven't.
Officially puts the nail in the coffin of films shot from the perspective of a character in "real time". There was so much going on, yet I was bored out of my fucking mind. Jennifer Carpenter has no nostrils. Weird.
Quarantine is definitely one of the more intense movies I have seen this year. Like movies like The Descent, Dance of the Dead, and Feast, the action in Quarantine is splendidly paced and makes for one hell of an awesome movie. Now, I have yet to see [REC] (just like most people), but what I can assume is that it too is an awesome movie and, perhaps, is quite better. However, the fact that I have not seen [REC] scares me because I keep hearing that Quarantine is pretty much the exact same movie, because, if that is true, my level of liking this movie would drop from a 4 to a 3 and 1/2. But, I have seen one of the trailers for [REC], and, OH MY GOD, Quarantine is the exact same movie. Same shots, same scenes, even the two reporters looked the same. Another problem I had is that, while a lot of action takes place in the first half of the movie, the action really doesn't intensify until the last half of the movie. But, overall, Quarantine is an awesome movie that needs to be seen and is one of the best remakes I have seen, and probably the only good remake of last year. Now, please, will someone get a release date on DVD for [REC], because I am in desperate need of seeing it!
I really enjoyed this movie. I can't say i was very scary( although i did jump) but i was yelling at the screen and was really into it. If the cloverfield-cam doesn't bother you i'd recommend seeing it.
this movie was alright. It didn't pick up till half way through. There isn't any zombies just rabies infected people. The scene with the dog was cool. They should have kicked that rabid lady from the first encounter out the damn window. fuck helping these people. Not worth the hype though.
i loved it i thought it was magnificent just a brilliant popcorn movie, so much fun from beginning to the end, was so creepy, the zombies are incredible so realistic and scary not as good as REC but as close as a remake could get, loved it brilliant a must for anyone and everyone !!!
Unfortunately i didn't get a chance to see this in theatres, but finally watched it on DVD. Wasn't really too sure what to expect. I use BD for the basis of all my horror movies, but the mixed reviews that this movie recieved just made me wanna watch it that much more!! I LOVED IT!! Jennifer Carpenter kicked ASS!! After seein' her in The Exorsism of Emily Rose, i KNEW she was gonna own this role too!! She most definately did NOT disappoint!! Love the fact that the "infected" aren't really "zombies". The hand held camera, first person syle ROCKED this film!! Loved it loved it loved. Will DEFINATELY be buyin' this one. Now, gotta see "REC".
Well done for a re-do but I think [REC] feels more real and live then quarantine. Quarantine had more of that hollywood polish to the film but it was still very close. i gave it a point under because I think carpenter over reacted more then she had to and you got to a point where you wanted her to get killed but thats my opinion. And yes manuela velasco is as sweet as a bag of cotton candy goodness!
This movie is very boring. Business didn't pick up until the last 20 minutes of the film. The zombies were ok, but nothing spooky or special. The hand held camera just doesn't work for this movie.
i have not seen rec. although no that iv read all these reviews i am very intristed in checking it out. quarantine was FUCKING GREAT! just all around a great flick. and i think the end although predictable per the trailers, was a great way to end it. i love movies where there are no survivors it makes it that much more beliveable. good work on this one!
This movie is the best movie ever made...no more needs to be said. Amazing acting, awesome plot, and the scariest movie ever. Anyone who says its gay is just afraid to say they pissed themselves so yea.......buy it definatly.
that movie was a good movie.the obly thing i didnt like about it was i already knew the ending cause of the trailer.after the movie was over,i didnt want to go upstairs cause of those rabies people.
Was it silly, well the characters did some silly things, but its a horror movie. If everyone did what they were supposed to we'd be low on horror. Ultimately I enjoyed the movie. The characters grew on me and I felt the tension. The "creatures" were smartly understated. Theres one great part worth it all. People I know who didnt even like the movie got the hell scared out of them.
it was ok I have seen better.....why do we make remakes that is what I want to know???.....some producers think they can do justice to a film but I think they should leave it alone.....anyway zombies are getting old...they need to find a new type of zombie movie.

If Blaire Witch Project and 28 later go together and had a kid, this movie would have been it. All around this movie is solid scare the s^%t out of you entertainment. It starts out slow but finishes well. Now if I could only get my hands on the original Spanish version!!
Really enjoyed this film, saw it twice this past weekend. Obviously as far as orginality goes, its a remake so not so much there but as far as style and story go friggin' awesome! It reminds me a lot of 28 Days Later, once it gets going it does a great job of making you feel almost safe and then grabbing you with a good scare. So as the movie starts it almost kind of lulls you in meeting the main characters and then the first call of the night. As they arrive you know things are about to start and if you saw the trailers you know that there is someone who is sick or something but the way that the attack by that woman takes place is great, first you think that they can help her and then you see there is no helping her as she takes out one cop and one firefighter before you can blink an eye. The firefighter fall was so unexpected that it really caught me by surprise. The sense of panic and confusion that follow over the next set of scenes and then they realize that they are locked in and can't get out. This sense of uneasiness and dread that starts to develop was awesome. This film really had some great elements to it, the crazy chases, the feeling that you as the viewer begin to want out of the building as bad as Angela in the film does. This film was very easy to competely emerse yourself into and that definitely added to the experience of the film. The last 15 minutes of the film was awesome and at times unexpected. I really just wish that the previews didn't quite give away as much of the film as they did, it would have been awesome to not see any of the night vision stuff before it happened or use it a bit more...could have made the ending a little more shocking. Overall an outstanding movie and I am really looking forward to seeing the original.

While i have not seen REC, I'll have to say this about Quarantine...WOW! I was on the edge of my seat the entire ride...and was given nothing but great performances. Very scary and nerve racking... a thrill ride that will please the jaded horror fan...and imo, even better than the 28 Day films... now...i'm gonna go check out REC

not half bad.
This film will have you at the edge of your seat, just waiting for what's to happen next. Much like walking through a haunted house, you don't know what to expect, you don't know what's lurking around every corner. Very good.

I liked it but probably won't watch it again any time soon.
Good. Not a great entry into the US remake's catalogue but a start. From what i'd heard, this was a shot-by-shot remake, but alot of this film wasn't. Extra characters and dialogue was added, i presume so people wouldn't feel like they'd seen it all before with [REC], but i was pretty bored most of the time. The one scene i knew was coming and was looking forward to was the end scene. In [REC], the last scene is one of few scenes that has ever made me shit myself, and the scene in this remake was alot different, and didn't even have potential to be scary. While watching it was hard to see what was going on, sometimes because of the shaky camera, but most of the time because other characters were in the way. As the newest edition to foreign remakes, is better than the others, i have to ask myself, was i scared (no), was i bored (yes), and was it good (yes). Rating this film was hard, because although it was pretty boring, mainly only because i've seen the originlal which is similar, but i did actually find it entertaining.
The plot was great, and added characters and dialogue to the new script was adapted well, i think. There was a plot hole in the remake which was quickly shown in the original, but why the people were getting the disease, and the little boy in the attic, was never explained so that was one major plot hole, i must admit.
The acting was believable with Jennifer Carpenter giving this role her all, and my god she has a pari of lungs!. Supporting roles were also well acted which gave the film an added believable feel.
Overall "Quarantine" will definately be enjoyed by those who have not seen "[REC]". It gave no real scares, but is entertaining. My rating is 3/5.
It was good but it was hard to watch this shot for shot remake

having not seen rec yet, i thought this was one of the past years better horror movies. probably the best queasy cam movie i've ever seen. it takes alot to scare me, and this movie freaked me out. excellent.
by taking it for what it is and not comparing it with [rec], it was very good, and very well done. suspenseful and startling and downright scary, and ms. carpenter's performance was amazing.
If you saw "Rec" may as well skip "Quarantine" because it kills the effect and suspense because you pretty much now all things coming, those were my feelings in viewing quarantine, if I hadnt seen Rec already it would have been more effective and scary.
This had to be one of the best horror movies of the year. Nobody else I know enjoyed the movie but I loved it! To me Jennifer Carpenter was a good actress and this was probably the most intense horror movie i've seen all year except for cloverfield. Jennifer Carpenter was a great actress and I think she is one of the best actresses in the horror movie world. I loved how the movie was shot-i loved cloverfield but thought the blair witch project was okay-but, with the camerea movements in this one mad everything seem so real and when one of the infected was beat 2 death with the camera i beleive had to be one of the greatest kills in a movie all year. The only part I thought was stupid about this movie was when they stomped on the rat to kill it. The ending had to be one of the most intense endings all year and would have been a whole lot better if it hadn't of ended with Jennifer Carpenter getting dragged away!! This movie is a must see and i wil definitely be buying it on DVD!!!!

this movie wasn't as good as i thought. If your looking for a movie with zombies, then i recommend Diary of the Dead. The camera in the movie was always moving and you couldn't tell what was going on. It did have a couple of scary moments. The ending was not good. It was OK.
I saw both films, and I believe that the American version is far superior. More well rounded characters whom I actually care about as opposed to randoms who get picked off one by one. I respect the more realistic approach of the Spanish version, but as far as entertainment value goes, the US kicked it's ass.
Posted By: bpasq2000 at 12:50am, December 17, 2008
I guess if you don't like reading subtitles this was OK....but far preferred the original
Ok enough of this filming with a handheld, this would have been much better filmed in the traditional way. Too many scenes rushed to make this even close to being scary. Worth watching once.
FUCK U Hollywood .. dont ever steal other scary ideas u shit...i watched the movie and shoud i put 7 or 9 or 10 for this shit?? no .. if its new yes..but its other spanish idea NOOOOO.. dont steal again fucking Hollywood..this move was ok but...REC THE BEST EVER
Posted By: LivingCorpse at 1:49pm, November 22, 2008
I didn't really like it. [REC] was much better but quarantine had it's good moments i guess
Posted By: yeonightmare at 5:29pm, November 8, 2008
I havnt seen [rec]....Should I??
This movie wasnt bad, I am a fan of shaky(firsthand)camera work makes things very realistic. Id say no one has pulled it as well as Blair Witch as well as this movie has. If you love zombie movies, or blair witch I believe you will like this movie. Thought it was pretty damn good, more exciting and entertaining than scary.
I'm not fond of this movie. From the bad camera trick which gives the viewers a headache, to the bad writing on character dialogue and actions the characters do everything silly that makes you yell out at the camera at the time to wondering why anyone would do something so silly afterwards.
They just seem to lack any sense of believability, even by movie standards. It just lets it down.
I really cant say why without spoilers. It starts off well enough, but it breaks down fairly quickly when the characters in the movie consistently fail to put 2 and 2 together. They turn their back on blatant zombies while they salivate right before them even.
If you want to watch something mildly entertaining, its fine. However if you are a die-hard zombie fan, you'll just emit groan after groan. The type that does not signify you are walking dead. Speaking of which: they don't use the 'z' word at any time in the film, its like they are a crew of people who have no knowledge of popular culture or cinema. Its one of the small points that frustrate me about these movies.
Also, sadly enough: the trailer spoils the entire movie. A trailer should hint at a movie, not give it away.
The movie could have been excellent with some more effort and better writing. There are plenty of excuses to have people killed in a zombie invasion without making the people in the movie so blindingly dumb that its a wonder they can tie their own shoelaces.
Quarantine is basically a mix of equal parts 28 Weeks Later, The Mist, bad acting, and Cloverfield. What you have is an annoying, flirty, overdramatic female reporter and her camera man who spend the night at the fire department with some of the most blemish free, muscle toned firemen I have ever seen. God I hate it when actors are overly made up in movies…but I digress. Low and behold, after twenty or so minutes of flirtatious melodrama between the firemen and the reporter, they get a call from a building in the middle of town. Once they arrive, you guessed it, they’re put in quarantine and held captive inside the building with a bunch of rabid, not-quite zombies and some of the other stupid ass tenets.
This is one of those movies where if you’ve watched the trailer, you’ve pretty much watched the movie. Not a lot of information is given is given about just how this situation came to be, save for a few fleeting glimpses of newspaper clippings that if you blink you’ll miss. I guess this is supposed to add to the intrigue, but sadly it does little to form a concise plot. I mean, if it wasn’t such a overly used idea, it might have been psychologically thrilling, but it wasn‘t. I’m not dissing zombie movies (I love them), but let’s face it…without strong characters a zombie movie is little more than a gore fest because the idea of a zombie outbreak has been done to death.
Speaking of gore, there’s surprisingly little gore in this film. There’s the occasional steamy pile of raw meat on the floor and a drill bit to the head, but that’s about the extent of it save for the zombie nibbles. (Yes, I realize that technically these aren’t zombies, but bear with me) If this movie had had fewer “fucks,” it would have probably received a PG13 rating. At the risk of sounding shallow, a zombie movie with out gratuitous amounts of gore is like a porno without tits: possibly good but probably not.
On the flip side, the movie had a couple of nail bitingly good scenes, one of which that borrowed heavily from one of the most suspenseful parts of Silence of the Lambs. The zombies were creepy enough, especially the one that appears first. The elevator/rabid dog scene was pretty good. You can use your imagination on that one if you haven’t seen the movie.
Quarantine was one of those movies that could have been pure gold with a little more effort. After seeing this movie, I am very interested in seeing the original because usually Americanized versions of foreign films are watered down for the masses and sucked of their soul. After reading Wiki of REC., I really feel a little cheated that Quarantine wasn’t a little more like its predecessor. Oh well, I guess I’ll be paying Blockbuster a visit wont I?
I’m not trying to dissuade you from seeing Quarantine. It was an entertaining movie. It just wasn’t all that great. Shallow isn’t the word for it, but it’s the closest I can think of at the moment.
This is without a doubt, one of the better movies i've seen come out in a while. Granted, while it is basically a shot-for-shot remake of [REC] I still believe that it carried itself as a film all it's own, and not derived from another.
This, of course, is due largely in part to the overly emotional performance of the stunning Jennifer Carpenter. Much like she did in The Exorcism of Emily Rose, she took this story, and cranked it up a notch. I personally believe that it wouldn't have been half as good had she not been in it. Aside from Carpenter, I really liked the way that this flick was cast. Strong, believable performances from all parties involved.
Watching this, I couldn't help but wonder how I would react, had I been placed in their situation. Needless to say, it was pretty much spot on.
This film (although bashed by lots of reviewers) is definitely worth the $9.50/hour and a half of your time.
Go see it. If you don't, at least check it out when it's released on DVD.
i have not sen REC but i am looking forward to findingso i can see it. I just saw this movie 2 days ago and i loved it except for one tiny detail. Jennifer Carpenter would not shut the hell up to save her life and i mean that litteraly. she screams for a better pert of the entire film and seeing it in theaters just amplifys the sound of her vioce.
I like the new trend sorta in hollywood of making films from the actors point of view. like cloverfield and diary of the dead.
So for this movie i give it a 8 outa 10 because that girls cannot shut up. and it angers me!

Quarantine is one of the few remakes that actually works and stays as close as it could to the original [Rec]. I'm not going to go into much detail with this review because I've posted my reviews and several other sites but Quarantine is scary, brutal, jumpy, and horrifying.
Posted By: BK's Finest at 11:18pm, October 30, 2008
Very good movie, but its was so hard watching it because of how close it is to the original. i loved [REC] and Quarantine came a little to early they should have waited a little longer to remake rec, however i was a great movie however Manuela Velasco was way hotter than Jennifer Carpenter props to her for trying thou.
Loved it. Jennifer Carpenter gives a great performance.

I thought this was completely bad..for two reasons. The Camera was extremely shaky.. through out and it was hard for me to focus on the movie. And The other was that the entire movie was boring to me..I've seen REC.. That was really good and Scary, and the camera was a little shaky but you could focus, but QUARANTINE was not scary. I was excited this was coming out cause I saw REC,and thought yaa, i get to see it in the theaters, but now I think they should Have shown REC with Subtitles.. over all 4/10.
I thought the movie wasvery good, but the bootleg copy I saw was way way way too dark and since the quality of video was downgraded under the intentions of the director for effect, I ended up losing all of the film's imagery in the jagged camera movements and blackness. But I got the effect, and I really think seeing it in theatres would have been terrifying...

This movie was pretty good, I enjoyed it
The Story is pretty frightening, Go See it ...

I really don't understand the purpose of remaking a film that is less than a year old...but then again, this is the season for remakes. I feel that the claustrophobic setting adds a lot to the mood. The characters have a sense of urgency the whole time, down to the last frame, which is great also. The gore was effective without being overdone or cheesy. I don't think it was as effective as [REC], but for 2008, it's a fresh scary movie.
Posted By: Mass Hysteria at 10:52am, October 20, 2008
My freak-o-meter reached its maximum level after I realized I had already jumped off my seat 12 times in a row. Highly effective, extremely realistic and AMAZINGLY FREAKY! Woo HOOOO!!
I saw this before seeing REC, and thought it was the scariest movie I have ever seen. That's a good thing. Very enjoyable, good effects, acting, story, etc.
Then I saw REC, which to me seemed like a slightly cheaper Q-teen, but more or less exactly the same story.
This isn't a remake, it's a cover. The studios didn't want to dub or sub a Spanish movie, so they made it again in english. People might say that's lazy, but it's a lot harder to remake a movie than dub one. Plus, the movie was a lot scarier looking than the original, always in the dark, more frantic, old lady zombie actually scary, etc. Plus, it added scenes and characters and changed the explanation.
In the end, Quarantine and Rec are the same, and are both amazing, and you can choose to see one without the other.
it was a alright movie. alittle too dark, some scenes needed more light to add more effect to the darker ones but over all i was pleased with it!
Posted By: HisNextVictim at 6:09am, October 18, 2008
it was good, but not much more than that
i liked the idea of everything being on a camcorder but sometimes i thought it was just a bit irritating :P
i give it a 7 for the gore and the camera's realism
I know there are mixed reviews about this film, but I highly enjoyed it. It's been a while since a movie has made me jump and keep me on the edge of my seat. Movies like that are always fun to see. It was also alot more gory than I expected it to be. I will definently be going to see this again :)
Posted By: Kaname Tousen at 6:03pm, October 17, 2008
This is a decent movie but with too many sterotypes it did throw me for some loops and over all >>I<< feel it's a good jump movie but a bad R-horror of course the ending sucked it was good to see Doug Jones that puts him in a scary role like him in Pan's labyrinth. I haven't seen REC but feel that there's to much on screen that happens to be reading the subtitles and I'm not about to learn Spanish just so I can see a couple of movies. I would like to see a sequel to see if they caught everyone and thing.
It was pretty good. I had a hard time not being nit picking by pointing out the small changes between this and [rec]. But thats going to happen when you're 1. watching a remake. 2 watching a remake of a movie you like 3 watching a remake that was release before the actual movie was released in the US (still blows my mind). Even in Dexter Jenifer Carpenter annoys me a bit but not so much I can't deal with it(the spanish Angela Vidal was WAYYY better). She just has this way about her that kind of gets under my skin. It was honestly a lot less in Quarantine but still came out a bit. It was fun to see that Boris the Blade (from Snatch) was in Quarantine. I just kept thinking about the scene where he's bound and walking around with a sack on his head right before he gets hit my the car. But anyway, the beginning or Quarantine bothered me a bit, especially when you see the camera man's face. Not to mention that the fire fighters are more into making sexist horn dog cracks than the spanish ones are (which is unfortunately a direct reflection of this being an American remake). Also the source of the epidemic is not so much a mystery in this one which is upsetting(also a reflection of this being a american remake...which is again unfortunate). There's a point in Quarantine where it hits and hits hard. Despite the small changes the end is just as effective as the original and because of that I'd recommend this movie but with that said...I also feel that anyone who's seen or is going to see Quarantine definitely at one point HAS to see [rec] (either before or after seeing Quarantine) so they can enjoy how the movie was originally intended.
Quarantine 7/10
[REC] 10/10
p.s.
to say this movie has no ending means you totally missed the point. There's only one possible outcome...(spoiler?)no one gets out
I agree; I would have liked this movie more if I did not see the original first. I still enjoyed the film because, I like zombie-ish films and the camera work and lightening were done quite well.
I would have liked it more if i had not seen [REC] first. I don't agree that it's a bad remake, because it is the exact same movie.

This movie, well. Most people gave it pretty harsh critism, I personally liked the movie. Yes there were several pros and cons. Alot of people think oh, this is just another movie about the dead coming back to live. (SPOILER) I liked the idea of Rabes being what "turned" the peoplethat added a little bit of a twist, Also I didn't like the fact that they used the elevator when the power was out, that was a con. (END SPOILER)
Other than that. The movie was over all, good, I'm not a fan of the videocamera movement like that. Cloverfield made me want the puke I don't like when there is too much going on. This movie is a really good movie in my opinion. I would recommend it to anyone. And to add to this movie the cast was pretty well picked, Jennifer Carpenter was amazing in her role, she always adds a little something to the movie. The ending was a little predictable and so was the death order, You can pretty much tell who is going to make it and how far. I still loved the movie though.

Okay so how do we judge this movie is if it was shot by shot remake you ask, well it's fucking amazing. Some scenes were shot by shot but other scenes were added, the start of the film was much different and better I thought then REC. Also some other scenes through out the movie were changed and made better. Even though I saw REC like 3 weeks ago it still scared the living shit out of me, which is impossible to do with me. I am a horror buff seen so many movies. But my only grudge like everybody else is they ruined the flick for those who have not seen REC. bad bad marketing skills. LOL but what can you do. Right! Well I am here to tell you to pay for this flick this is and amazing movie that will scared you long after its done. And the cool thing is they explained how and what it is and to tell the truth that made me even more scared. I was thinking shit, what if that came to be true.
My only grudge with me is the fucking directors lied out of their assholes. Which I knew they would of, I deft knew they would. They were like our ending is ten times better and more fucked up or whatever they said, here I am thinking BULLSHIT LOl and sure enough it was. Maybe on DVD there will be the alternated ending I am pretty sure there will be like 3 how much you wanna bet, thats how they get you to buy things. Thats hollywood thats life.
But go out and see this with your girl, or mom or whoever. And you should then go to the bathroom once it's done get some alzertisela (however you spell it) and fucking freak them out. LOL
oh man thats a good idea.
Okay so enjoy the fuckin scares. And also no that no movie will be scary like this for many years to come. Good remake I was proud.

Jennifer Carpenter's acting was amazing. Definitely believable. I hate how they showed so many of the scenes in the trailers, but what can you do. The infected people were crazy creepy, especially the last one that kept coming at the camera.
I liked it. The handheld camera gimmick is getting old, but I like "zombie" flicks (I know, they weren't technically zombies but you know what I mean), Jennifer Carpenter is hot, I liked the claustrophobia of them being trapped in the building, and I love (and this is just because I'm a morbid nihilist) movies wherein everyone dies. I've suffered through years of patronizing horror flicks in which, against all odds, the cute male and female leads manage to survive - screw that, life sucks, I want movies to reflect that fact. Lastly, a few people questioned why it took the little girl so long to turn, my theory is that it's because she wasn't actually bitten but just exposed to the dog so it took the infection longer to take hold.
I have to say i liked it. jennifer carpenter is a rising star from Excorsim of emily rose to dexter, she never fails to captivate the audience. Total scream queen !!! Awesome movie, good gore

Spoiler Alert!!!!! Just to be nice:)
Well, here I go. I even got an account to say this. Sad I know. I thought the movie was mildly horrible, to say the least. It was basicly...
1.Jennifer Carpenter meeting firemen.
2.Ahhhh! Scary biter.
3.ZOMG! She just threw him over a staircase.
4.All that cop threatens to shoot everyone.
5.WTF?! it's rabies!
6.CDC, die mo-foes die!
7.Kill the kid(plug for lord of the flies-pig)
8.bye-bye Jay Hernandez.(it really is sad)
9.Don't forget about mr.boston
aka. creeptastic attic man
10.everyones dead.
I mean there's no real ending. No real explination. Just the trailer ending. kinda sad really. I want to know what happened. And it left quite a few questions unanswered, like:
why was mr. boston different than the other infected? why did it take so long for the kid to attack someone? what happened after everyone died? and seriously why was mr. boston doing it in the first place? sorry that was so long but I honestly want to know. So will someone like message me please?
Now I love horror, I have countless numbers of horror DVDs. I saw this movie hoping for a really good horror movie. I wanted it to scare me, to keep me on the edge of my seat and one that would make my jaw drop.
So I consider myself a really big horror fan. This movie was just that!! My girlfriend who saw it with me even loved it!! and she hates horror.
So this movie in my opinion is really the best horror movie that has been in theaters this year!!
So to those that are interested in this movie but are reading reviews & letting other peoples opinions decide for you to this this movie or not. I just say go out and see it for yourself, ignore all these reviews and decide for yourself.
It's rare to find a decent horror movie these days, most are B-rated and embrace sex and gore, so I found Quarantine a relief. Almost all of the scares in the movie were from things "popping out of the dark," which left you on the edge of your seat, almost dreading the characters turning around the next dark corner. I left the theatre with my knuckles sore from squeezing my own leg in anticipation of the next scare. The plot could have used a little more work, yet I went to see this flick to get a good scare, and that's what I got.....quite a few times. 9 out of 10 from me.

absolutly awesome. I loved it and would see it 1,000 times more and I would love it just the same if not more each and every time

So here it is, our first theatrical horror movie of the month. And I've got to say, I was quite disappointed.
Quarantine brings nothing new to the table. I feel like I've seen this movie 100 times already. So what do they do? Use the already old cinema verite style. Now let me first say that I loved Cloverfield and the way it was filmed. I even somewhat enjoyed Diary of the Dead's style. So I normally dig the hand held stuff. But this film took it so far that I actually felt sick by the time the thing was over. You could never tell what was going on because the camera moved around so frenetically. I couldn't wait for the cameraman to die just so the camera would fall and be stationary just for once.
Adding to the motion sickness was horrendous acting. Annoying and incredibly stupid characters. I mean seriously, if you're trapped in the dark with a rabid monster, or whatever it was, are you really gonna talk to the other person with you? And they weren't even attempting to be quiet! It was just stupid and led to a finale that was ruined in the previews! Awesome!
Overall, this movie was a major disappointment in what's turning out to be a disappointing October. First it was Feast II and now this. Now I am looking forward to Saw V but after that what else is there? The Haunting of Molly Hartley? Yay!
I personally love horror films, but when a movie like this comes along, its hard not to laugh at the mediocre acting and the lack of creativity. It was a shot for shot remake of the first film, hence, nothing new was really brought to the table with this one. Its somewhat depressing to see that a film can be remade with better equipment and more money for effects, but end up so bad. I personally liked the first one better
Far be it from me to tell you not to see it, i'll admit it was extremely well made as a film. That much is true, that the film itself was solid as a production piece. But some techniques were questionable. I mean, sure they have to make it blurry and out of focus, dark, cramped, and even put the camera down for minutes on end. But there are times an audience wants to remember they are watching an amazing movie, not a filmschool project gone bad.
I apologize to all fans of this movie, but i personally enjoyed [REC] much more. Subtitles aside. Although, in retrospect its not really up to me at all. Alot of people might admire this movie, and see it as a great feature for 2008. Its just a shame that next week SAW 5 is going to trounce it into dust.
Another opinion. So if you're into a blair witch reminiscent film, go for it. But if you want a solid horror film that keeps you on edge, this doesnt cut it for me.

As many others, i went to this movie not expecting much. My friend thought it was gonna be "really scary" so he wanted to see it, so i tagged along. I ammediatly got sucked it. It was an amazing thrill ride. I actually was clinging to my friend at some points. You definatly get pulled into this movie, and it is very good. At some points it was alittle repetative. And the ending.. was kind of confusing. Well not really confusing just.. disappointing? I don't know but I definatly suggest you see this movie. Great Infection Flic!!
I went into this movie expecting it to be horrible, I was wrong. I was on the edge of my seat almost the entire movie. Jennifer Carpenter and Jay Hernandez were great. This is a must see.
I thought this movie was terrible. The acting was poor, laughable at times. When the little girl finally attacked (she was sick for days?) I actually laughed out loud and got elbowed by my husband. I know the shaky camera was supposed the add the the effect of the movie but just because it worked in Cloverfield doesn't mean it will keep working. I actually found it gave my a headache in the last 20 minute and 6 people actually left the theater. Maybe I missed sometime, and I will check out the original right away. But unless you are scared by bad camera work and and stupid people I would skip this one. And did anyone else realize that if you had watched the preview you knew how it would end?

I have seen them both. All I can say is they are both great! I have not actually been scared in the theatres for years. I am now 41 and have been watching horror movies all my life and I must say this one had me on the edge of my seat. I also came out of my seat numerous times! This movie had no musical score so the scares came out of now where. I am so glad someone finally got it right. With all these crappy toture movies out now a days it nice to see someone that really scary. And for the most part, it could actually happen.
Not bad, alot better than I expected at least. It was actually pretty scary for most of the movie, but eventually lost effect. It was still an exciting film, definitely one of the best mainstream horror movies in awhile
First off, I never watched the original, but I thought Quarantine was just awesome.
I agree with the marketing techniques, big no no! You already know everyone doesn't survive, but damn, they didn't have to totally give away the end.
I'm not a big fan of most the hand-held type movies. My eyes are too sensitive and it hurts when they try to adjust to what the hell is going on with all the shaky camera scenes, so I liked that this movie gave the vibe of being hand-held, but you still could make out what was going on.
I thought the acting was really excellent, and very convincing. I screamed and jumped quite a few times.
I love movies where people become blood-thirsty creatures! The bit of gore that they had was fantastic. This was a win win all around for me.
i wont be the first to say that rec was absolutely amazing, but i may be the first to say that quarantine topped it. the only downfall was i new the story not that its a bad one. yes it is a god dam zombie movie. its very tense with some scare scenes and it has everything you could want in a horror movie, easily the best this year and possinble the best for the last few years. the best thing about the movie is that it starts out slow (you actually get to know some of your characters or atleast have a feel for what they are like) then the movie picks up very fast and becomes intense and maybe a little uncomfortable to watch. my only real negative comment is not with the movie itself but the markets about how they show way too much info. but dont listen to all of these negative comments, people are just too stuborn and shallow to see a great movie remake or not, there will always be someone to talk down about a movie
I just got back from see Quarantine and all I can say is WICKED! This movie was a nail biter and had tension galore. There were a few good jump scenes that was well deserved and definately one of the best foreign remakes made PERIOD! It was rated R for good reason in this age of watered down PG-13 Horror and deserves to find an audience.

Absolutely amazing visuals. Great performances from everyone (save for Jennifer Carpenter's annoying hyperventilating at the end). The scenes that were added to the film really did help flesh out the movie more rather than just padding the runtime as I had initially suspected. Every bit as good as [Rec], if you ask me.

Everything visual was amazing but the only things keeping it from being perfect in its genre is a better plot and Angela and the Cameraman's development as characters.

Good film, not great. For one it's a remake and some of it does seem to be a little boring.
This movie isn't too bad, even if it is a remake of a movie that's way better. I don't see how Mr. Wilson is even reviewing this film, he hasn't even seen it, and said he has no desire to see "this dribble", which is funny, because he tried to be sound pseudo-intellectual by saying drivel, but had no idea what it meant or what the word even was that he was looking for.
This movie was badass. I loved everything about it. One of the best horror movies ive seen in awhile. It was a mix of 28 Days Later and Blair Witch. Great movie.
wow i am in shock...fucking blew me away..i was actually scard at certain points of the film..best horror movie to going theatrical in 08 by far. i can't wait to see rec now when i finally comes to dvd.

I REALLY enjoyed this film and it was the first actually good horror movie to hit theaters in some time. I felt the acting was OK but the stunning visual effects made up for it. This is DEFINITELY considered a zombie movie and I recommend it to all my fellow zombie lovers as well as the general audience.
Posted By: stuntgirlstef at 10:32am, October 11, 2008
It was everything I expected, and I really enjoyed it.
Someone mentioned that this isn't a zombie movie, I just want to clarify that this IS a zombie movie. Everyone who died came back to life.
i think it was better then REC but it relies and copys alot form REC but i reallly didnt like how they changed the original supernatural twist from REC to some dumb
Posted By: Mr. Willson at 3:06am, October 11, 2008
REC is the ish. Buddy of mine saw 'Quackantine' and basically told me of the cop-out change/differences. I have no desire to see this dribble. REC = Awesome/ Quackantine = Dumb.
BTW: 'Cannibal Holocaust'(1980) started this POV ish. Not that lame duck 'Blair Witch'. Wish people would do their homework.
Okay, the original is fantastic, really well done and a treat for genre fans. This, was cinematic garbage. The acting...did not seem realistic at all, and bless her soul Carpenter, did the best she could. I can't help but really criticize this film, If I hadn't seen the original, I might have enjoyed it...but now I know its the watered down version. Disappointing.
I do agree to a certain extent with you. The shots were extremely predictable at points and the plot line could have been a bit more original. I however really liked the character angela just because she is from dexter and i love her as an actress, so i guess i tried to look past the cliche everything. Some of the images were pretty creepy looking but overall i diddn't think it was awful. I think we just need a new fresh idea, and not the old standard apocolyptic storylines. Oh well i got a few good jumps out of it
First, I just want to say that I am a huge fan of survival horror—which this is—and I’m a fan of hand-held camera movies. With that said, this has to be the worst I’ve seen of the genre.
I’ve never seen [REC], the movie this was based on, and now I’m positive I don’t want to. This is nothing but yet ANOTHER virus-that-turns-people-into-zombies movie. I did not know that was the plot when I went in, and now I feel very cheated. I was expecting to see something along the lines of The Blair Witch Project and Cloverfield, which this is not. This is essentially just yet another 28 Weeks Later, Night of the Living Dead, Doomsday, etc., etc. that has zero originality and follows every cliché known to horror. Before you tell me, “Look, dude, I can care less about originality, as long as it’s good.” I have to say this: because this movie lacks originality, there is no intensity. You know what is going to happen from beginning to end. You know when something is going to jump at the screen. You’ve seen every single scene in this movie time and time again. I felt so bored because everything was spoon-fed to you. There was no mystery, nothing immersive. Just another lame virus-turns-people-to-zombies movie. Don’t be deceived into thinking this actually has a plotline, like I was. There is nothing scary here. There is nothing intense. It’s all so generic, I really wish I hadn’t used my money on it because I’ve seen it so many times before.
The handheld camera is almost a gimmick. Unlike Cloverfeild, where the camerawork was 100% noticeable at all times, Quarantine just felt like every other movie until the last twenty minutes. The camera stays relatively still throughout, like normal camerawork, and even uses cheap cuts like a standard film. I personally love the handheld style, but this seemed to just use it as a gimmick.
The reason Cloverfeild and The Blair Witch Project both worked was because they didn’t tell you anything that the characters didn’t know. The characters were just normal people, but in Quarantine there is no mystery. You’re told in the first 40 minutes exactly what is going on and what is going to happen.
Overall, this is just a boring dud. I’m sure there are some kids out there who will find it entertaining, but, seriously, it’s just like everything else you’ve already seen. Don’t be fooled.
